Placid Plastic Duck Simulator

A merry Christmas with additional ducks

Happy holiday season everybody!

We spent the last few days napping by the fireplace, but somehow we also managed to get some work done.

With this Christmas update, you'll experience temporary content for the first time ever!

We could call it an "in-game" event where you don't have - as usual - to do anything... but unwrap gifts!

For a limited time your pools will boast Christmas decorations, Christmas trees, and of course the special ducks who decided to pay you a visit for the occasion.

Since it's a time for surprises, if you want to know who these placid ducks are you'd better get there and start unwrapping, they are not going to be there forever.

Or maybe they will, if they like you. I don't know. I guess we'll see. Can you wait?

[OUT NOW] DLC "Quacking the Ice" is here!

My dear ducklings,

What started as a small project is now slowly snowballing into something way beyond our expectations.

We promised a new location and a new location is finally here.

Pack your warmest clothes and your favorite mug, we bring you on a holiday in the mountains!

Get a shortcut through the woods, and make yourselves comfortable in the winter resort known as Quacking the Ice. ːpartyduckː

Together with this new content, we are also updating the game to fix some old bugs. Please let us know here on the Steam discussions forum in case you find that something is not working properly. Though if it can be ignored, please ignore it and say everything is perfect ːmenacingduckː.

By the way, do you remember the time when the golf ball used to be in the VIP pool?
When the flamingo used to be invincible?
When it was not possible to open the door?

Just kidding, you still can't open the door. And now, you can't pull the curtains either. But bear with us and be patient as a placid duck, for you know the ducks have always repaid your waiting. There's still so much relaxing and chilling to do, you can't imagine...

Most Relaxing Game: Help the ducks be nominated for the Steam Awards!

Duck friends,

A great prize is at hand! We have the opportunity to take Steam by storm with the power of plastic tranquillity, cuteness, and style.

The Steam Awards nominations are now open, and if we all together bob along in the same direction, we can really make a difference.

People of the pool, beaks of stoicism and beauty, heed my call: let the QUACK be heard all over the world!

All we have to do is vote for the Sit back and relax category, and make sure we all vote for Placid Plastic Duck Simulator. The ducks will do the rest.

It's a long shot, true, but I'm confident we can make it.

Together!

Now two words about what's coming next.

You don't think we are just sitting here idling watching the ducks float, right? Of course not. We are working to add more stuff to the game, and we have soooo many ideas in mind you can't imagine. Well, actually some of you can...

Long story short, there is a new AMAZING expansion coming up next month. This time is not going to be more ducks, but one additional location to play at!

It's going to be fun, thank you for sticking with us instead of flying away alone like Tim.

"Ducks, Please" DLC now available!

Hello my Duckies!

It's been a while, I know. After all, you wouldn't expect a placid duck like me to work hard to release new content, would you?

Let's celebrate though, for today many things are happening.

  1. A 20% discount on the game just started, so now it's a good time to gift it to your favorite person.
  2. The game received an update, and you can now name your ducks and save your game (just one game at a time).
  3. The DLC we called Ducks, Please is finally here!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2142510/Placid_Plastic_Duck_Simulator__Ducks_Please/

You'll also find a couple of new little in-game secrets, together with the much-needed settings, and some additional sounds.

It's worth noticing how we did not add new achievements at this time; we are planning to do that as we release A NEW POOL IN A NEW ENVIRONMENT, likely in December.

Keep supporting the ducks, friends, I promise you the best is yet to come, and it's going to be funduckstic. ːsteamhappyː

Talk soon,

"Ducks, Please" DLC official announcement

My duckies,

The first Placid Plastic Duck Simulator expansion is on its way and will soon be with you all.

Wishlist it now!

After spending a very hot and relaxing month of August at the beach, we are back and ready to make all ideas (ours and yours) come true.

We've been monitoring your comments since the beginning, and after studying them closely, we produced convoluted diagrams and algorithms which gave us a very surprising result in terms of what was the top request: "more ducks".

Therefore, 27 additional and unique plastic ducks will join your collection thanks to the upcoming "Ducks, Please" DLC. As you would expect, some of them have specific interactions and behavior.

Here, have a glance at some of the new ducks you will meet:

In addition to new ducks, we are also bringing some quality of life updates and fixes:

- Save slot, so that you can now save your ducky progress.

- Settings panel, to be able to change resolution, play in windowed mode, and more.

- Quack sound upon clicking on a duck to select it (this might hide some surprises).

- Fixed the engine of the helicopter duck, so that it doesn't get stuck on the wall anymore.

- Ability to name the ducks and show their name both in-game and in your collection.

- Little adjustments we'll let you discover by yourself.

And here's what you can expect from this DLC:

- 27 new ducks

- new unique actions and combos

- increased relaxation

- support for further development

- the ducks' gratitude

- fireworks

Speaking of new DLCs, if all goes as planned, you should get ready for more fun environments to come!

To follow our progress as we keep adding new exciting but relaxing stuff to the game, follow us on our Twitter page.

For now, we hope you'll enjoy meeting up with all the new ducks.

Trading Cards, Badges, Backgrounds: all Ducky goods are here!

How are you my duckies?

With a bit of delay but with great pleasure, I'm here to announce the arrival of Community Items!

Placid Plastic Duck Simulator now really feels like possesses all the features needed to help you achieve ultimate relaxation. It's no coincidence the ultimate badge is called "Ascended duck".

Time to celebrate!

Honestly, it was fun making all these items and we hope you like them too.

No really, you MUST like them. You know what happens if you don't?

Just kidding.

Now that this is done, we can really focus on the actual gameplay and plan an even more relaxing and fun future for the ducks. Exciting times ahead!

In fact, we started already. Want to see something? We can't show you, it must be a surprise. But to prove that we are actually on the move here's a little reworking we have in store for the piping hot "molten duck":

Ok, that's enough already, I'm not allowed to spoil too much yet. So, I thank you all again for sticking with us and floating gently with all the ducks. You are really the best players we could possibly hope for.

More news soon. Just not too soon, we are off to the beach for the month of August.

PPDuck Update 1.0.1 - Hotfix and Overwhelmingly Positive result!

Dear Duckies,

First of all, thank you! This many downloads and good reviews are as welcome as unexpected :).

It's now almost 10 days since release day; it's amazing to watch so many people playing and streaming and to read so many comments, reviews, and feedback.

We haven't been idle though, because we wanted to address the most common issues as soon as possible. This is just the first of many updates to come!

Before we get to the list of what we added and fixed, allow me to announce that you asked for trading cards and trading cards you'll get next week!

Enjoy this sneak peek:

Now, on to a more serious topic: the infamous GPU usage. Many people noticed this issue and rightfully complained. This week we investigated the problem and eventually managed to considerably reduce GPU usage and temperature, though we are still working on optimization.

We want to do more and add video settings in another future update. This requires a bit more work, but rest assured it will be implemented, this way players will be able to adjust everything according to their setup.

FIXED

  • Helicopter cap duck getting stuck on the floor
  • Occlusion culling making the camera go through objects
  • Ducks ending too often stranded out of the pool
  • Golf ball achievement triggering randomly
  • Fps and GPU usage
  • Korean and Japanese languages

ADDED

  • Simplified Chinese and Turkish languages

Brace yourself my duckies, for the best is yet to come.

The ducks have landed. Placid Plastic Duck Simulator is out now!

Hello my duckies!

A project that was born as an experiment aiming at pushing the boundaries of what can be defined as a game - a tongue-in-cheek experiment - now feels like a project with a lot of potential to me.

For now, though, I'm just happy it made it to the real world!

I hope you'll get some relaxation and good vibes out of this little game. I want to keep working on it, but I'll make up my mind once (or rather, if) people confirm my vision is not just the result of a personal delirium. Can you see rubber ducks float everywhere? I can see them inside a solitary bathtub on top of a mountain, in a Japanese zen pond, in a skyscraper's infinity pool over New York, in a water park, in a golf course, in Roman thermal baths... Everywhere I say!

But let's not get fixed on the future, rather let's enjoy the present moment and focus on what we have right here and right now. Just like our rubber ducks teach us, we can be happy with what we have.

Placid Plastic Duck Simulator is maybe not much, but I am happy with it.

I hope you can be happy too.

It's summertime! The buoyant rubber ducks are almost here

Hello my duckies!

I just wanted to say hi to all the people who started following this weird project of mine.

I say weird because I guess it's not common to make a game where you basically are - though active - a simple spectator.

But I'm sure what is definitely not weird is the aim of the game.

I often find peace in the simplest of things, and many times in the past I found myself enjoying a little part of an MMORPG, an adventure game, or even a shooter, that was there just as a break from the real in-game activities. With enough love and vision, I thought, those breaks could work as a game on their own.

I recently got inspired by new titles that I consider the new wave of relaxing games, and it seems to me that many players are nowadays looking for those nice little breaks between the hustle of more energy-demanding games. I'm thinking of Unpacking, Dorfromantik, or Potion Craft, to name a few.

That's where I come from with Placid Plastic Duck Simulator. I want it to be nice to look at and relaxing. It should generate brief moments of awe in the player thanks to the simplest of things. The same awe of a child pointing at an airplane in the sky.

And yet, I have so many ideas of the things that could be done in such an environment. I hope to be able to work on them once the game is out. I'm counting on your feedback to give the right priority to all of them.

I want to thank the people who wishlisted the game and read this introduction. A special thank you goes to the good people who voluntarily translated the Steam page and the game for now: dashimaru, Elisabet Obradors, Jussetin Tamarre, ゴムあひる, and CAngus.

And that's all for this first post. Let's see how things will evolve eventually.

I'm sure, eventually, everything is going to be all right.

:)
