Planet S Version 0.6.0 - Victory Update
Hey everyone!
The Victory Update is here and with it it bring a bunch of new features to the game including the long requested AI opponents ("Bots")! So lets go:
NEW AI opponents:
AI opponents are called "Bots" ingame and act very similar to a normal player:
Up to three can be added to a game
If a normal player leaves (in multiplayer) then that player will be replaced by a bot
Bots DO NOT cheat so they have the same money and resources available to them like any other normal player
They will build and supply their own colonies
They will attack you if you are unfriendly towards
Note: There are a couple of things that we still want to add to the Bots logic in the next few patches. Currently Bots can't win via the new science victory and they also don't interact with the colony shares system for example. We also want to add a difficulty option for each bot added. But the most important stuff like diplomacy, war and research are all already present!
NEW Victory conditions:
A victory will now properly be detected and displayed to all players. There are two ways to win the game: Through science or with bruteforce using military stuff. A military victory can therefore be achieved by defeating all other players and bots. To achieve a science victory you need to research, build, prepare and escort an Exo spaceship out of the solar system. This path is only available through the science tech tree.
NEW Exo spaceship:
The Exo spaceship is a special purpose build spaceship that can't be controlled by the player. It will spawn above the large shipyard it was build in and it will then allow you to start the preparation process and after that the expedition itself.
The ship can't be manually controlled / moved around
It will always be marked with a trophy icon on the minimap
Preparations take about 2 minutes
Every player will be notified as soon as you start the expedition and very player will se the route that the ship will take
Its the largest and most tanky but also the most expensive ship in the game
If the expedition reaches the world border then the owner of the ship will win!
NEW Colony shares:
With this every colony will have 4 shares that are initially owned by the owner of the planet.
Every share has a certain price that is based on the size, population and economy of the colony.
Every player can buy a share every 5 minutes.
Owning a share gives you access to a proportional cut of the revenue of that colony. For example: If you own 2 shares so 50% you get 50% of the revenue that the colony generates. Revenue excludes any upkeep so the owner will always pay the entire upkeep but not receive all the revenue if the owner doesn't own all shares.
Buying all 4 shares of a colony will allow you to purchase the ownership of the entire colony which will be treated as a takeover so all building will be ruined!
This system is optional and can be disabled during world creation but its enabled by default.
NEW Pirates:
A new option to add pirate raids to a game during world creation.
Three difficulty settings which will influence how often and how "aggressive" the pirates are
They will stop by from time to time with a fleet and attack selected cargo spaceships with high value.
There are a couple of suprises in their behaviour so just experience it for yourself ;)
NEW Terraforming:
Added the "Terraformer" as a new building
Added a new technology to unlock the Terraformer in T4
Can be placed on regular ground and will allow you to place up to 6 "Terraforming sites"
In each Terraforming site you can select the target ground type you want to have
A Terraforming site will deconstruct itself upon completion
NEW Flags:
Added an option to customize your factions flag during world creation
The base layer will always be in the color of your faction
Your flag will be displayed on a variety of buildings (Spaceport, Orbital flak, City center and many more)
You can use your own icon PNG files by dropping them in a dedicated folder in the install directory of the game. This will automatically work in multiplayer aswell, other players don't need to have the same icons files. There is one icon as an example in there. Folder: "(installDir)/customFlagIcons/textures/flagIcons"
Trade routes:
+ NEW You can now add other players colonies as a destination to automatically trade with. You will have to sign a trade treaty first though.
Chat:
+ NEW You can now whisper to other players
Achievements:
+ Added a couple of new achievements corresponding to the new features
Balancing:
Small nerf to the small cargo spaceship: ~ Small cargo spaceship: Upkeep: 75 -> 100
Fighters are too strong right now so they needed to be nerfed aswell: ~ Fighter: Upkeep: 150 -> 300, Steel: 25 -> 30, HP: 1300 -> 1200
Quality of life:
+ Added a tooltip to the colonize button in spaceships to indicate why its not possible to colonize an uncolonized planet (unlock conditions + building materials) + Added a hotkey to automatically select the warehouse building (to quickly build a warehouse) ~ Changed the layout of the save menu ingame slightly to make the "New savegame" button easier to find and reach
Bug fixes:
* Fixed a rare crash when loading a savegame with an invalid drone active * Fixed an issue that caused there to be multiple game over notifications * Fixed an issue that could cause the camera to be stuck

Planet S Victory Update Announcement + Trailer
Hey everyone!
We are happy to announce the release date for the Victory Update. The update will go live on the 31st of August! The update will contain the following features:
Victory conditions! You can either win through domination (Military Victory) or by successfully starting an expedition with an Exo spaceship (Science Victory).
AI opponents! This has been a heavily requested feature and its coming with this update. You will be able to add "Bots" both in singleplayer and multiplayer matches when loading an existing savegame or creating a new game. Bots will behave just like a normal player and they will build their own colonies, ships and maybe even attack you.
Custom faction flags. This is also a community requested feature and it will allow you to create and customize your own flag which will be displayed on many buildings in the game.
Colony shares. Another community request which will allow you to buy shares of other players colonies or even buy their colonies outright if you already own all four shares. Each owned share will also get you a cut of the colonies revenue.
Pirates! Another community request! You will be able to enable and selection a difficulty for priates during world creation and they will riad some of your cargo ships from time to time.
Terraforming! Another community request! This will allow you to build a terraformer and modify the type of a tile. (Fill oceans or remove mountains and more!)

Hey everyone!
This update brings some major balancing changes based on community feedback and our own testing.
Balancing:
We wanted to make it just a little bit easier to progress through the first tier of the game by increasing the energy produced by wind parks.
Buildings:
~ Wind park now produces more energy: Energy 20 -> 25
Technologies:
~ Efficient turbine blades (Energy bonus for wind parks): Energy bonus 25% -> 20% (Still a bonus of +5 energy per wind park)
We wanted to reduce the money gap during tier 2 and early tier 3 and make progressing through the end of tier 3 and tier 4 more fluid. Previously you had to build ~2 full production chains for clothing for example because the first one was immediately at its limit. This is no longer the case after these changes.
Residents:
~ Fruit juices and Softdrinks: Income per citizen 2 -> 3 ~ Cultivated meat and Convenience food: Consumption reduced by ~37% ~ Casual wear and Suits: Consumption reduced by ~50% ~ Cocktails and Champagne: Consumption reduced by ~20% ~ Brain interfaces and Houshold robots: Consumption reduced by ~50%
We got a suggestion on the community Discord that space fights might feel more interesting and fluid if the attack speed of spaceship would be higher. We liked that idea and these changes increase the rate of fire while decreasing the damage per hit. The overall DPS of all spaceships stays pretty much the same except for the Falcon which got a very slight nerf.
~ Orbital flak: Salvo cooldown 2s -> 1s, Damage to spaceships 30 -> 20
Bug fixes:
* Fixed a bug that caused technologies with impact on consumption rates to not work correctly
Other:
+ Added Vulkan runtime installation files to the game files to prevent crashes on systems with very old or incompatible drivers

Planet S - State of the game #13
Hey everyone!
Welcome back to this months state of the game! This will probably be the last SotG before the Victory Update so that will again be the main focus of this post.
Roadmap:

We are aiming for the end of August for the release of the Victory Update with the full release hopefully happening in September.
Victory Update:
Science Victory:
We are still hard at work to get the Victory Update ready is month. We thought this state of the game would be a good time to share how the new victory condition that will be introduced with the Victory Update will work. The "Military Victory" is the first option to win the game and the "Science Victory" will be the second one. The military victory will be a simple domination victory which will be triggered if you are the last faction that is still alive. The science victory on the other hand is a little more complex and it consists of the following steps:
Research the "Exo spaceship" technology that is exclusive to the science research tree. Its the most difficult technology to get as its only available after you have researched one of the technologies from the last decision point.
Build an Exo spaceship. You can build an Exo spaceship in the large spaceship yard after the required technology has been researched.
Prepare an expedition. The Exo spaceship will have to prepare for its expedition which will require some time in which it is vulnerable as its already marked on the minimap for others to see.
Start the expedition. This will cause the Exo spaceship to pick an exit location at the border of the world and to win you will have to escort it to that location. But we warned! Every other player can see the route the Exo spaceship will take to exit the system and everyone will get a notification that the expedition has started.
Win! You won the game as soon as the Exo spaceship leaves the system (passes the world border).
This victory type will allow you to win the game without having to fight. Although do keep in mind that everyone will try to stop you from starting the final expedition.
Terraforming:
Terraforming will also be added with the Victory Update. This feature has been highly requested since release and its finally coming! We wanted to integrate this mechanic into the regular game so we made it into a special building that can be researched as soon as you reach T4. One or more Terraformers can then be build per planet. Each Terraformer can supply up to 6 Terraforming sites simultaneously. A Terraforming site can be placed on any tile type and in it you can select in which tile type you want to terraform the given tile into. It will then take a small amount of time after which the Terraforming site will deconstruct itself and change the tile type underneath it into the requested type. The surface of the planet will update as well.

We managed to fix most if not all bugs that we are currently aware of as far as we know. There are still a few extremly rare edge cases which can cause problems in the lobby and we are looking into that but aside of that we are really happy with the current stability of the game.
