Developer Q&A with Aesir Interactive

Fellow Officers,

Police Simulator: Patrol Officers has officially been out for just a week now! 🥳 It’s been a whirlwind of a week and we’ve definitely been busy looking at all your great feedback.

Considering that our PS:PO community has grown a lot within the last few weeks, we thought it’d be a good time to answer some frequently asked questions for players old and new.

For this, we’ve prepared a little Q&A with the lovely developer team at Aesir Interactive, so that you can not only get a look behind the scenes but also get to know the team behind the game a little better. 🤍

Developer Q&A

How has Early Access impacted the development of PS:PO?

Early Access really changed the development, especially in regard to all the features we implemented. We really listened to you and took all your feedback into consideration - and even changed our development priorities based on that. And that will continue in the future!

What future content are you most excited to develop (which is on the Trello)?

For us it is definitely being able to stack charges - we can't wait for that! Finally, we'll charge the criminals accordingly...

How do you identify what to add to the game next? What is the process?

It starts with a suggestion from the community, ourselves or from astragon. Then we check how we can pull it off and how it would meet realism the most. After that we check how long it would take us to implement it and if we all agree on the feature, we search for the best possible timing and plan it into our development roadmap.

What is your favorite district in the game?

Melting Pot! We really like the Melting Pot district because it is the one with the most diversity in the buildings and in the people.

How have IRL police officers helped you with your development of the game?

We're working together with a little team of four police officers from the United States which we can get always contact to receive their advice. We ask them everytime for every feature or change we do or plan to do in the game.

What’s your favorite feature in the game?

Definitely the co-op function, everything is more fun with a friend 🙂

Will there be more callouts in the future?

Currently our priorities are set to focus on bringing more depth to the game.

Are you planning on extending multiplayer?

Unfortunately, we won't be able to extend the Multiplayer due to technical constraints.

Will crossplay be supported at some point?

Unfortunately, no, crossplay is a huge technical task and with the current feature plan we are not able to do it.

Are there plans to add more playable characters?

Currently that isn't planned.

Can you give us a sneak peek of what we can expect in Update 8.0.0?

We think Trello gives you a good overview of what to expect. Make sure to check it out regularly and vote for your features!

Do you have more questions concerning PS:PO? Leave them in the comments down below because there’s going to be a live Q&A with Aesir Interactive very soon! 👀
More details to follow.

Thank you to everyone playing the game and of course to the developers at Aesir Interactive! This game is a group effort of all of us combined and we’re very proud of what it's become and where it’s still going in the future!

End of Early Access - Official Release OUT NOW

Fellow officers,

Today is the day! We’ve graduated from being an Early Access game and are ready to conquer the gaming world as a fully released game. Since embarking on this journey in June 2021, we’ve grown so much: We’ve added

  • 7 content updates (more to come!),
  • 25 achievements,
  • 49 violations,
  • 10 tools,
  • 13 languages,
  • 2289 localization lines
  • and so much more!

And we also got to welcome 7311 of you on our discord! Thanks for sticking with us! We couldn’t have done this without you! 🤍

You can also check out our End of Early Access Trailer with a special message from the developers at Aesir Interactive.

But enough of all these sentimentalities… We’d like to welcome you to Update 7.3.0, the official release update of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers!

Introducing: Update 7.3.0

Yeah, this is indeed 7.3.0 - we initially had a 7.2.0 but then we put together another update and practically merged it with the one before, thus evolving into 7.3.0. But let’s have a look at what’s new in 7.3.0!

This officer is currently not available

We are aware that sometimes incoming callouts can be quite annoying, especially when you’re already in the middle of dealing with something else. That’s why you can now disable incoming callouts!

There’s room for more

Got a lot of criminals on your hand? No worries, everyone will get escorted back to the precinct. Multiple arrestees can now get cozy inside the police backup vehicle.

You shall not pass

Traffic cones and road barriers are just not enough. To help with traffic management, your police car can now act as a road blocker.

Urban Terrain Vehicle DLC

Also now available: The Urban Terrain Vehicle! The brand-new patrol car is free for all Early Access players (it’s a thank you gift 🤍). It is also available for purchase at a price of 2.99 Euro/2.49 GBP/2.99 USD.

Bug fixes… lots of them! 👾

Check out the detailed list below, but let me tell you, lots of things have been fixed and improved!

More to come…

A lot of you have probably already seen our post-release roadmap until Q2 2023, but here’s a little reminder what you can expect from updates 8.0.0, 9.0.0 and 10.0.0!

Also, just as a reminder:

We still recommend creating a completely new save game now that we are leaving Early Access. Loading a save game that you have created during Early Access might cause unexpected behavior in the newer versions.

If you start a new journey instead of using an old save game, you will have the best experience when it comes to updated game balancing and a better learning curve while also avoiding any outdated balancing issues that might cause the game to misbehave.

Thank you so much for your support and now it is once again time to take up the badge! The city of Brighton needs you!

Our Post-Release Roadmap until Q2 2023!

Fellow officers,

with the official launch of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers only days away, it’s finally time to share more details about our post-release roadmap until Q2 2023 with you!

Since embarking on this journey with the launch of Early Access on Steam in June 2021, we’ve tried to involve you, the player community, as much as we can. We regularly updated our official Trello board with all details surrounding the latest developments in Police Simulator: Patrol Officers, added your feedback and suggestions and even got to implement a lot of the features you requested!

But we are aware that some features on our Trello board have yet to make it into the game. Which is why today, we are happy to give you a better preview of the free updates that you can expect by mid-2023, including some first timings.

It’s time to get excited for Update 8.0.0, 9.0.0 AND 10.0.0!

Update 8.0.0 (Q1 2023)

Are you tired of people always asking you for directions? No worries, update 8.0.0 introduces more improvements for the “Asking for directions” feature. Also, emergency vehicles will now come from the opposite lane to avoid getting stuck in traffic.

Did you accidentally call for an ambulance or tow truck? You can now cancel the call! Your phone bill will hopefully shrink that way... it’s getting way too expensive. (Wait, aren’t we using walkie-talkies?)

Update 9.0.0 (Q1 / Q2 2023)

Got a really bad criminal on your hands? Stacking charges is finally a thing in update 9.0.0. These criminals will finally foot the whole bill, that’s what I can promise! Oh, and you can stop a fleeing person by tackling them. No need to waste the limited stun gun ammo anymore... and you’ll get a nice workout, too. The gym can wait from now on.

Update 10.0.0 (Q2 2023)

Do you enjoy going on patrol with a partner? To make it easier to interact in a multiplayer game, predefined commands will be added in update 10.0.0. Also, adjustments to balancing values to tailor your game experience can be made. In addition, the minimap will also be visible while on foot patrol outside of a vehicle.

We hope this teaser will get you excited for what’s still to come! We will provide even more information the closer we get to each update, including all kinds of bug fixes and general improvements.

We’re looking forward to working alongside you even after release to further improve and expand the game. Your feedback and involvement is what makes this game so special!

Thank you so much and get ready to take up the badge on November 10!

Road to Release: News about Save Games and Betas

Hello Officers,

We’re getting closer and closer to leaving Early Access on November 10 and launching a new chapter for Police Simulator: Patrol Officers. Some of you have been with us since the very beginning and we can not state enough how incredibly thankful we are for your support – in the past, in the present, and for everything that is yet to come.

While this is all quite exciting, we are aware that we owe you answers to some of your questions. Today we want to focus on future save game behavior and the future of our open beta program.

Will my save game be erased?

Short answer: No!

Long answer: No, but we still recommend creating a completely new save game once we leave Early Access.

However, if you wish, you can continue playing with your currently existing save game. We won’t take it away.

What will happen to the beta program?

As you know, right now, we are releasing every bigger update into open beta prior to its full release – and this has been very helpful during our time in Early Access.

However, once we leave Early Access, we sadly have to say goodbye to our beta program. This is due to a more complicated and sophisticated development approach going forward – but in return, we greatly increased our own internal resources in both the development and quality assurance part!

No worries, we will continue working alongside you to further improve and expand the game. Nothing has changed about that! We are grateful for all the feedback you provide and without everything you did, the game would not have been as successful as it is right now.

How will the release work?

Well, to be honest, it is more a formal act than an entire revolution. Once we leave Early Access on November 10, we will release the “Day One Patch” with version number 7.2.0 – and it will contain much-requested improvements like being able to turn off incoming callouts, arrest transport picking up more people and using your patrol car as a road blocker. Of course, the update will also contain a huge amount of fixes for both bugs and crashes. Quite a nice care package!

In addition, we will carry out a price increase when we leave Early Access. The game will then cost 29.99 Euro / 24.99 GBP / 29.99 USD on PC. This seems obvious, but just to make it clear: If you have bought the game already, you will of course keep it. The new price is only relevant to players who decide to buy the game after November 10.

Everyone who bought the game during Early Access will also receive a free DLC containing a fourth patrol car, the Urban Terrain Vehicle. You can find more details about it here. The DLC will become purchasable to anyone who buys the game after Early Access.

And with all that… the shiny blue Early Access badge will vanish from our store page. We’re a grown-up video game then. But as with all of us, we will continue to grow and expand – and we can’t wait to do that alongside all of you.

Thank you so much and stay safe and healthy,

Your Police Simulator Team

We went ON PATROL at gamescom 2022!

Welcome back – ON PATROL #4 is here.

We're happy to be back with the fourth episode of ON PATROL, the official PS:PO show! Fill up your coffee cup and get ready for our gamescom special! ☕

What's inside today's episode?

Today is all about this year's gamescom in Cologne, Germany! 🎮
We're showing off our awesome booth design, talk about our media appointments and tell you a little bit more about the impressions from the players.

The entire PS:PO booth was themed like an actual precinct from the game, with a briefing room, flags and so much more. 👀

Players got to try out the console version on PS5 for the very first time, which you, by the way, can pre-order now.

We also talked to Laura and had her answer a few questions. She told us a bit more about Donny the donut, our beloved mascot! 🍩

Enjoy today's episode and get ready to get back on the road!

Now available: Update 7.1.0

Fellow officers,

We've fixed bugs! We've improved driving! We've added new QOL features! We've improved performance! Oh, and more! Why am I shouting!

Welcome to Update 7.1.0, now available to all players of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers!

Introducing: Update 7.1.0

After a few weeks of beta testing, we've polished the latest update and are now happy to share the latest version with you. Today's update 7.1.0 is everything that was included in the beta update 7.0.0... and more!

Let's dive right into everything that is inside! 👏

Car control improvements!

We are very much aware that driving a patrol car has not been the most pleasant experience in the past. It felt like you're trying to dance on ice. That's why we're tackling this very issue and issue a bunch of improvements to make it a lot more enjoyable.

We've rebalanced all patrol cars to make their controls more natural so please give us your feedback on that. In addition, we've added new settings related to vehicle steering sensitivity and controller dead zone adjustments. Last but not least: You can now switch seats from inside the car!

Manage the accidents you caused

Some of you are truly ruthless! Causing accidents left and right, bringing other NPCs in difficult situations, making them lose everything they own... but hey, it can be fun as well at times.

Now, you can manage these very accidents! Document the accident, talk to the NPC, and ensure everyone gets all the information necessary.

Side note: The speed limit of the street will now be displayed on the screen! Not just good for your own driving behavior but also for radar gun usage...

A little bit of balancing

If I say the following three things, will you finally be happy?!

Accidents will now happen less.
You will get fewer NPCs asking for directions.
Crimes are now happening farther away so that wallet thefts and so on won't happen right in front of your eyes.

Yes. Admit it. This feels good.

Performance Improvements

We've optimized the game in several areas to further improve performance by reducing memory usage, deleting unused assets and adjusting the number of parked NPVs (which, as a side effect, should bring other improvements with it).

Hungarian Language

This is only possible thanks to John Bart who spent his last few months working on the mod, translating the ENTIRE game to Hungarian. We can not even slightly imagine how much work that must have been so please thank him for his tremendous effort!

If you want to switch to Hungarian, you only have to head over to the Steam Workshop and subscribe to the mod! We'll make sure, together with him, that this localization option will get updated over time as well!

Thank you John Bart for all your efforts, it has been awesome working alongside you <3

What our next steps look like

This update has probably been the very last one before we leave Early Access on November 10th. However, we are already working on the next one which will have the version number 7.2.0 and release on that exact date - becoming our day-one-patch, so to say.

With the next update, we'll once again focus on the three pillars which already shaped today's update: Bug fixes, QOL features, and performance improvements.

Just to give you an outlook on what will await you on November 10th:

  • You will get an option to become unavailable to the dispatchers.
  • You can use your patrol car as a road blocker.
  • Arrest transport can now pick up more people.

Update 7.0.0 is coming on September 20 – Open Beta starts now!

Fellow officers,

gamescom is over and it has been a blast! Seeing so many of you come to our booth, try out the game and give us feedback... that was awesome. However, we haven't stopped working at all and especially not on the next update.

Welcome to Update 7.0.0 - now available in Open Beta before the full update launches on September 20th!

Introducing: Update 7.0.0

You might be wondering: Hey, why are they not naming it? Where's the fancy picture showing off the new features? Why is this blog post looking different than the others?

Well, it's actually quite simple. On our road to leaving Early Access, we want to polish the game further, focus on fixing bugs, and bring you a bunch of necessary quality-of-life improvements. Why add new features for the sake of new features when you should rather improve what has been there before?

That's why Update 7.0.0 is just... 7.0.0. It's a very simple naming but also an effective one.

Car control improvements!

We know, we know: The current way of controlling your patrol car is not really optimal at all.

Document the accident, talk to the NPC, ensure everyone gets all the information necessary.

Crimes are now happening more far away so that wallet thefts and so on won't happen right in front of your eyes.

... I'm happy now. It feels good.

How do I enter the Open Beta?

We've made the process as easy as possible to include you, the community, early on during the development of the game. To join the Open Beta, you only need to perform the following steps:

  1. Right-click on Police Simulator: Patrol Officers in your Steam library.
  2. Select 'Properties' in the menu.
  3. Select 'Betas' in the sidebar on the left.
  4. Select 'Beta' in the drop-down menu and confirm your decision to switch to that branch.
  5. An update should now start - you are now officially part of the Open Beta!

To switch back to your stable save game, just repeat these steps again - but instead of selecting 'Beta', you just select 'None'. Easy.

Everyone can test the beta extensively and provide feedback on its features, balancing, and bugs. Feel free to send us your impressions on Discord, in the Steam Beta forums and on our Socials.

Save game to unlock everything in the beta

By visiting this link, you can download a save game for use on the beta branch (and only on the beta branch!). This save game will unlock all features immediately. You also need to know that you must copy the save game into the following folder:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Boston\Saved\SaveGames
You can find the folder more easily by typing %localappdata% into the Windows search.

Since the save is named Career_0beta.sav, you have to delete any other save game which might also be called Career_0beta.sav. We recommend doing a backup of the old save game as well should you want to keep it for the future.

Of course, this is completely optional and intended to help those who want to see everything unlocked in the beta from the very start. The old method of unlocking stuff does still work.

We're leaving Early Access on November 10th - and here's all you need to know!

Fellow officers,

yes, it's happening – as announced last time, after more than a year, we're actually leaving Early Access. What a ride it has been... Just take a look at all the updates we've released thus far! Without your feedback and incredible engagement, we would never have been able to follow our vision of creating the best possible Police Simulator out there.

I'd go as far as saying: You made it all possible.

In the latest blog post, we only mentioned that we *are* leaving Early Access. Well, now we have a date for you as well: November 10th, 2022.

(Some of you spotted the leaks in the last few weeks, but psht, that never happened, all fake of course.)

I missed it, why are you leaving Early Access?

We mentioned it in the initial announcement but no worries, I think it's important to get into detail:

We've been developing the game for some time now with frequent updates that have brought both content we planned and features the community wanted into the game. And there has been a lot. We are now at a development stage, where we are feeling confident to give players a well-rounded full gameplay experience not only on PC but (yes, on November 10th as well!) also on consoles. Just to clarify: Despite that, we are very much aware of lots of quirks we still need to tackle.

But for all of you who are eager to continue testing early gameplay, we will offer you the possibility to become an Official Beta Tester within a closed group (Developers, Beta Testers Only). More information regarding this topic will follow soon.

What comes after Early Access?

You probably have some questions regarding a revised roadmap and similar things. Unfortunately, we won't be able to give you an update at this very moment as we're still working on the details and everything is just not... ready. However, some of the stuff you have wished for is still definitely coming! This includes *banger features* like:

  • A brand-new powerful vehicle: The Urban Terrain Vehicle which will be FREE to all players joining us in Early Access! From release the additional patrol vehicle will be available as DLC at a price of 2.99 Euro/2.49 GBP/2.99 USD. It's a thank you gift <3
  • An additional alternative to stop fleeing suspects: By aiming or using a stun gun or by aiming the police gun, fleeing suspects can be made to stop. With one of the free updates, stopping by physical force will also be possible.
  • Hand out multiple tickets: When Brighton residents commit offenses, virtual enforcement officers can ask them to pay a fine or warn them. A free update will bring the possibility to charge all amounts cumulatively into the game.
  • Even more co-op fun: When patrol officers go on patrol together in co-op mode, the communication between them must work perfectly. A free update will implement helpful command shortcuts into the game with which they can communicate even better and in a more targeted manner. Only through perfect teamwork will they be able to keep law and order in Brighton.

Psht... this is what your new car looks like...👀

What else is there to say?

So, so, so, so, so much. But it's hard to put it all into words.

We'll be at gamescom starting... tomorrow! And stay there for the rest of the week. We can't wait to see you, for the very first time, in person. Come to booth B-040 in Hall 7 and say hi, we're there for a chat!

No worries, we plan to host a digital AMA as well. More details soon.

Yours dearly,
The entire Police Simulator Team
