Patch 1.04



Here's what's new in Popup Dungeon's 1.04 patch!

New logic available for abilities.
  • Summon Character Action: Like the Summon Action, but it uses Character Data instead of Enemy Data for its summons.
  • Transform Into Character Action: Like the Transform Action, but it uses Character Data instead of Enemy Data for its transformation.
  • Flavor Text: Allows you to place custom text that will appear in the ability’s logic text area.

Two new search modes
  • Popular: Sort by most likes all time.
  • Recently Updated: Sort by last update time.

Game
  • Added option to clear the save progress for a given game. This can be found at the bottom of the main UI tab when editing a game.
  • Games with complex campaign hierarchies that use persisted flags to check if campaigns are unlocked should now function properly.

Game Nodes
  • Enemy Encounter Data Modification: Can now accept an Enemy Pack instead of just a single enemy.
  • Upgrade Party Equipment Reward: Can now upgrade quality instead of rank.

Content Manager
  • Dependency Scan has been sped up.
  • Should now function properly when switching between save profiles.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a rare bug which occurred when selecting an audio reference that was missing waveform data.

New Patch!

It's been a while, but a new patch for Popup is now live! It features quality of life improvements, new modifications for game development, and tons of fixes.



Here's the patch notes:

Workshop Search Improvements



  • Added “Liked” query type which allows searching through all content you have previously liked.
  • Search text now handles creator names and mature content flags.
  • “Liked Creators” query type now uses your actual Steam data instead of local data to retrieve creators you have liked.
  • Added option to view content from creators you have previously disliked.

Game Creation



  • Added 2 new modification types to the Modifier node.
  • Disable Equipment Drops: Enemies will no longer drop equipment.
  • Disable Level Up Rewards: Level Up books will no longer be given at the end of a level.

Content Management



  • Improved logic used to detect content which is safely deletable. Specifically, items that were recursively referencing themselves can now be deleted so long as nothing outside their dependency chain references them.

Bug Fixes



  • Fixed bug which had longer Steam Workshop descriptions being cut off.
  • Fixed a bug that would crash the game when a recursive charm cycle involved a summon charming its owner.
  • Fixed inconsistencies with Toggle AI control on summons that were transformed. In general, Toggle AI and the “Control Enemies” dev control should respond more consistently across various charm / summon scenarios.
  • Fixed several bugs across numerous campaigns.

Here Comes Krampus

Krampus is coming to town to make sure that all the little cardboys and girls are properly laden by a holiday lump of coal. And if you happen to have made the naughty list this year, he'll sack you away to somewhere hot and unpleasant... and we're not talkin' Florida!

In this update:



  • New Campaign - Can you survive the 12 challenges of Krampus? Better write your list to Santy Claus and hope he'll carpet bomb you with some helpful presents. (*Spoiler Alert* He will.)
  • New Character - The Crowd: a powerful superhero that can reproduce with a single punch!
  • New Tile Set - It's a snowy winter wonderland.
  • New Mechanic - Pick One: Add random variety to your abilities.
  • New Enemies - Not the least of which is ole Krampus himself!
  • New Hats - Don ye holiday cheer for goodness' sake.

Popup Dungeon Update: 1.011 - Hats!


  • Content

    • New system: Characters can now define a cosmetic Hat to wear.

      • Added several hats to choose from. As well as one Kickstarter backer-exclusive hat. (We will be sending out DLC keys to unlock it.)

    • Added Kickstarter backer-exclusive charms. (We will be sending out DLC keys to unlock them.)
    • Added Kickstarter backer-exclusive tabletop visual replacement option. Can be found in the Game tab of the Options Menu. (We will be sending out DLC keys to unlock it.)

  • Game Creation

    • Added warning context tip to dialogue event graphs that combine dialogue nodes and combat fx nodes with game mechanic actions. Combining these types of nodes can cause the game state to become invalid in certain situations.

  • Bug Fixes

    • Gold reward codes should no longer be able to give negative gold amounts if entered incorrectly.




Popup Dungeon - Dev Stream

Popup Dungeon has recently released a free Halloween expansion with a new campaign, characters, enemies, equipment, and music by rad 80s rock band, Thor!



Join the developer, Enrique, as he trick-or-treats through the neighborhood using an old-school, Might-and-Magic-style navigation system unique to this new campaign (Go North, East, South, West).

Will he survive Samhain's curse that's turned trick-or-treaters' costumes into reality? The campaign is set to hardcore mode, so watch him die... live!

Popup Dungeon’s Update 1.01: Halloween!

It is time for Popup Dungeon’s Free Halloween Expansion!


  • Content

    • New Halloween themed campaign.
    • New Halloween themed characters, enemies, equipment, and media.
    • New unique charm rewarded for completing Halloween campaign.

  • Game Creation

    • Added advanced filtering logic to entity filters. Allows filtering by things like active status effects, hp ratios, statistics, surrounding entities, etc.
    • AbilityActivationTrigger: Can now use affected targets as event targets.
    • Game Graph Editor can now scale up to 2x
    • AbilityActivationTrigger & AbilityActionActedTrigger: Can now restrict triggering based on relative positioning between activator and target.
    • AbilityActionActedTrigger: Can now set the value of a flag equal to the power of action which triggered the event.
    • AbilityActionFX: Can now derive power from the value of a flag.
    • Companion rewards and entities added to combat through CombatFx can now be set to be controlled by AI.
    • Equipment Rewards now scale quality to better match target reward size.
    • Presets have now transitioned to using the referenced sub graph system.
    • Added “Set Flag Value To Filtered Entity Count” FX type to CombatFX node.

  • Improvements

    • Optimized game’s launch speed which could become sluggish when multiple thousands of UGC items are installed.

  • Bug Fixes

    • Fixed bug which occurred when a transformation effect was removed from an entity by the same ability that also launched it.
    • Fixed bug which occurred when a self action was placed under a “number of targets” condition
    • Fixed a few bugs concerning the Event Graph Registration modification.

Popup Dungeon’s Free Halloween Expansion!!

Greetings, Popup Adventurers!

It is time for Popup Dungeon’s Free Halloween Expansion!

You find yourself on the far end of your neighborhood on a cursed night in which trick-or-treaters’ costumes have become reality. You must find your way home and discover the source of the evil.

Play through a new unique campaign complete with the following:


  • New Characters:

    • Rob the Zombie
    • Ortho the Bone Doctor (Skeleton)

  • New Enemies

    • Samhain, Pumpkin-Mimic, Treant, Mushgloom, Merman, and more…

  • New Gear

    • Varied

  • New Campaign (Unlocked by default)

    • The players find themselves on the far end of their neighborhood on a cursed night in which trick-or-treaters’ costumes have become reality. They must find their way home and discover the source of the evil.
    • Non-linear, open-world – Old-school Might-and-Magic-style exploration (travel North, East, South, or West from node to node – a journey through the arcade, sewers, neighbors’ houses, haunted forests, graveyards, and more)
    • Hardcore (players do not heal/resurrect after a fight) – They must eat candy that they trick-or-treat for to heal.
    • Approximately 4-6 hours playtime
    • Highly replayable (total of 20+ hours of exploration)
    • Light-hearted, spooky Halloween fun.
    • New music by Gabriel Lefkowitz (our Composer) and fabled 80s Rock-Band, Thor.

Popup Dungeon Update 1.005

Game Creation



  • Adjust Party Members Modification: Can now target by party slot.
  • Random Node: Fixed bug with no repeat logic. Added additional settings for no repeat logic.
  • Node text should no longer be able to spill outside of the description area on the game table.
  • Added Comment node. The comment node is excluded from the generated graph used for gameplay, but can be used to help document your games.
  • Added Set Difficulty Override modification type. Allows you to set difficulty exactly, ignoring all other settings.
  • Remove Entity combat fx can now be used during the deployment phase.
  • Added option to hide automated description from level nodes.
  • Custom encounters can now be set to match entity ranks exactly as listed. Ignoring party size and current difficulty.
  • Added disable charm necklace modification.
  • Added force immediate encounter modification. Ensures encounters are triggered at start of level.
  • Sub graphs with 0 nodes are now properly flattened.
  • Loop nodes can now disable false output.
  • Optimized performance of warp nodes which have exactly one exit for a given tag.
  • Game node images can now be taken from the full screen image library.
  • Connection order (vertical) of nodes should now be maintained correctly when the game graph is being generated and sub graphs are being flattened.

Gameplay



  • Upped maximum duration for ability actions to 10.

Bug fixes



  • Corrupted content reference files will no longer cause the game to fail.
