Small update 2 : Difficulty, bugs and performance

Hi everyone! A small patch for fixing minor issues.

  • Fix: difficulty setting not correctly applied if the player does not change the difficulty
  • Fix: difficulty setting is now correctly saved
  • Adjust difficulty
  • Add: a "very easy" difficulty
  • Add: a lower water quality for the "low" graphic option
  • Fix: Repair dockyard repair time

Changes:

  • Wages:

    • Reduces wages for the Pier, Warehouse, and Garage
    • Difficulty setting now affects wages
    • Increases wages for the Fishing dock, Sawmill, and Telegraph

  • Repair dockyard:

    • Shows how many resources you will have after repairing the boat
    • Shows how much time it will take

Early access release on the 23rd of November!

Hi everyone!

We have some big news! The game is about to release in early access on the 23rd of November! The game will have a new trailer to better represent the current state of the game! And I want to tell you some details about the early access release!

But for now we have a small teaser:


I wanted to talk about the early access and what we plan to do with it. First, to be clear, the game is not yet finished! So we will update it with free updates in the next month. We will add new features such as weather and seasons (along with new buildings and technologies related to that), a decree system along with a morale system to add more flexibility and choice to the player. If players like the game and want more content, we have others ideas such as scenarios where we have differents levels with their own specificities. All of this will add replayability and it will make the game more deep and complex!

Result of the Steam Next Fest & News

Hi everyone! The Steam Next Fest has ended and it is time for a small recap! First thank you for the 500 wishlists! We had a huge boost with the event! Then, we have fixed a lot of bugs with this demo, it was not easy to make it in time but now it is done! The demo will stay available for a undefined period of time.

We have started re working our interface! It was looking too flat so we are working on a new version. I have some examples to show to you. The game's release is becoming more and more real. We have some work to do: more events, more buildings and technologies and some new features! The goal is to give the player more choices in difficult situations and more variety in the overall experience! It takes some time because we want to be proud of everything we do.

Steam Next Fest : The demo of Portobugia is available!

Hi everyone! The Steam Next Fest starts today and so it means that the demo of Portobugia is available for free from now to the 10th of October! So be sure to try it now!

We know that the game is not finished yet! It lacks some content and some features but the core gameplay is available in this demo! We tried to improve a few small things before releasing the demo like for example the main menu, the life in the port, the balancing... We even created a logo for our studio. Here is the new background of the main menu:

Steam Next Fest and news!

Hi everyone! I hope you had good holidays!

The release of Portobugia is getting closer, and so we have decided to participate in the Steam Next Fest with a demo. The demo is an early build of the game.

Some features are missing compared to the final version. For example, we were not able to add our weather and season system before the time of this festival! So we decided to focus on other improvements like adding visuals to the event system. To continue with what we added: a little stamp animation when accepting or refusing a ship in our port; a lot of animations in order to add life to the port. We obviously made some balancing and debuging.

Technology tree preview & news

Hi everybody! Today I will talk a bit about our progress!

Technologies!



We have finished the technology tree! Here is a screenshot of the tech tree and the different possibilities.



We can see on the image different status for technologies. For example, the technology at the left is unlocked and so it has a blue background, the technology allows to research 2 new technologies, one on the top is not unlocked but selected by the player and one is already researched. When you can research a tech, the link with the previous tech is a dotted line. When the tech is not available the tech has a grey background and the link is grey. We can also see that technologies can be exclusive with another, it is shown by the red cross on the link. Since I researched the tech at the bottom I can't tech the other one.

A new resource was added to the game: the "knowledge", it is used to unlock techs and can be obtained through events or when you correctly fill a boat's report.

To access to this tech tree you must wait for a special boat called "Mobile Technology Center":


Sawmill and fishing dock!



To make the game more alive, we added an animation for the Sawmill:


The Fishing dock and Sawmill are unlocked through the tech tree and need to be constructed. The first one gives food and the other goods.

What's next?



We are working on weather and seasons already! The goal is to add unexpected events and replayability. For example, in winter they will be a chance of having the river frozen which means that no boats will be coming to the port!

Our progress!



Portobugia is becoming more and more real! One of the biggest lack of the game was a save system! Now it is done and you can save your progress to continue later! We had some hard times at first using the default Unreal Engine system but now we use a plugin and it is a lot easier!

To make the game more interesting and alive we have added an horse, it will replace the first level of the car! It will improve the feeling of progression for the player along with adding variety to the game!

Also a new building is coming to the game: the Sawmill. It will give the player another way of getting goods! It will provide a small amount every day. Moreover, it will be able to clear the forest next to the port. And by doing so, you will unlock new buildings like a fishing dock!

Last but not least, technologies are coming to the game and the system is in development. The ability to clear the area with the sawmill is a part of this system! They will allow to get some specific bonuses for buildings, along with unlocking new upgrades!

What's next?



Continue working on technologies and new buildings (fishing dock for example). After that, a big feature will be coming to the game: weather and seasons! The goal is to have a big impact on the gameplay depending of the season!
