Predator Update has been published!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

With the new update comes complete rework of the first person view, a new threat in the water: Mosasaurus and a new pterosaur Thalassodromeus. And there’s a lot more! Read on to find all content!

Thank you for the continued feedback and ideas! Your support helps us tremendously! ːsteamhappyː

And remember to check out the patch video!

Reworked first person models and animations

First person view has gotten a complete overhaul. All characters now have their own arm models and the model reflects the chosen clothing for your character. All first person animations have been redone. Many animations have a lot more detail than the old animations.

New animations also mean that animations you’ve gotten used to have changed. Some loading animations might be shorter and some longer, take it into account! You will notice that after you change weapon all weapons are ready to use immediately without extra animations. You can no longer shoot while running.

Thalassodromeus: New flying reptile

A new pterosaur species called Thalassodromeus is now dominating the skies with Pteranodon.

Mosasaurus: The first aquatic reptile

The first fully aquatic species Mosasaurus is now living in the water. Take care when finding loot boxes in the water!

Mosasaurus cannot yet be hunted as the current equipment cannot be used underwater. We’ll be implementing it in the coming updates!

Multiplayer network improvements

We have done multiple improvements to multiplayer networking. This means that players and dinosaurs will be synced better for clients. Player vertical look sending lots of unnecessary messages was fixed.

We added a lot more debug information and improved sent message calculation. We added new debug information and more accurate message calculation. We added dinosaur message per second calculation. Improved prediction accuracy.

Fixed issues with special dinosaur states that would be incorrectly synced to clients.

Iguanodon rework

Iguanodon has been reworked with new model, textures and animations.

New distance and ambience fog

New distance fog was created to smooth out the look of the environment. New ambience fog was added which is most present in foggy weather.

Loot boxes improvement and water loot boxes

Loot boxes can be found in the water too. They can be recognized from their orange/white skin. Water loot boxes have higher chances of having more valuable items in them and can include weapons. The land loot boxes were buffed to have a chance to include all other items except weapons.

Sell items in the shop

You can now sell all the inventory items in the shop. You’ll get 50% from the buy price of the item. Find some loot boxes or sell your excess items to get credits for other purchases.

Please note that if you sell ammunition you need to have a minimum amount of that ammunition type to be able to sell it. The minimum is as many as there’s for one purchasable ammunition pack, for example pistol ammo pack has 40 rounds. The UI tells you the amount that’s sold at one go.

Hard mode

You can now to choose to play in normal (Difficulty level which has existed before) or hard mode. Hard mode is aimed for experienced players who want more challenge. Hard mode has it’s own leaderboard that can be toggled in existing leaderboard menu. The following modifiers apply in hard mode:

  • Non vital hits make less damage
  • 50% more experience and credits for kills and contracts
  • Dinosaurs make double damage
  • Map guides (orange circles) removed for non-tracking contracts. Tracking contracts will have a larger circle than in normal mode.

Ragdoll improvements

When dinosaur dies transition to ragdoll has been smoothed out. And the ragdolls will no longer stretch. Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus and T-Rex ragdolls were improved.

New clothing: Gloves

You can purchase gloves that fit each of the clothing options. You can choose to go without gloves too! Your choices are reflected on the look of the first person character too.

New clothing: Boonie hat

Boonie hats are now available for purchase in all camouflage options. They can be used by all characters.

Revolver remake

A fleshed-out revolver model has replaced the old revolver model. It has completely new animations too.

50 cal heavy rifle remake

50 cal has been remade with new model, animations and sounds.

New weapon: Heavy Rifle .338

A new weapon has arrived! .338 heavy rifle is a bolt-action rifle. It costs 4000 credits so you can afford it before the other heavier rifles. You’ll need to buy .338 ammo for it. And you might notice the model looks very similar to the old 50 cal model …

Tracking improvement

Tracking system has been rewritten! This allows to display a lot more tracks on the ground. You’ll find dinosaurs leave tracks more often making tracking more viable.

We’ve fixed an error in tracking caused by other player respawning in multiplayer.

New sound effects

Some new sound effects have been added for most of the weapons. Flashlight operation sound effect was changed. We will continue to improve the sound world in the coming updates.

New localization: Brazilian Portuguese

Thanks to Joseph M the game is now available in Brazilian Portuguese.

  • Missions are now loaded and saved to offline cache
  • Storage items are now correctly loaded and saved to offline cache
  • Player leveling integrated to offline with cached leveling properties

Development Blog #24 – First person view rework and new dinosaurs!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

We are preparing multiple improvements for the coming update: first person view rework, new flying dinosaur Thalassodromeus, our first underwater dinosaur Mosasaurus and other improvements! Read on to find out more!

Thanks again for your great ideas and support!

First person model & animation rework

In the next update the first person model and animations will get a total rework.

New models

First person hands will reflect the clothing and character choice the player has made. It means that all current characters Jack, Amy and Scotch will have their own first person hand models displayed. The first person clothing will have the look you chose in the menu.

New animations

All the animations will be reworked for first person view. Here is a WIP video showcasing current progress with the animations.

There will be new animations for some interactions like when player uses binoculars or enters crouch position.

New flying dinosaur: Thalassodromeus

So far Pteranodon have been dominating the skies but now we are working on another species to accompany them: Thalassodromeus. They are colorful flying dinosaurs with a distinctive look.

New underwater dinosaur: Mosasaurus

In the coming update swimmers will have to take into account that there lurks a new danger in the deeps: Mosasaurus!

We are not planning to include hunting gear to hunt underwater yet. This is something we’ll be adding later.

Loot boxes in the water

Loot boxes will start to spawn in the water too. They will have their own look compared to loot boxes on land. Loot boxes in the water might have more valuable loot in them including weapons. But will you chance it when a Mosasaurus can hunt you?

Sell inventory items

We are working on a mechanism to enable players to sell excess inventory. Sell value will be less than the purchase value (We were thinking 50% of buy price).

New player hat: Boonie hat

Boonie hats are being created and will be made available for all the camouflage options.

New revolver model

Revolver will have a new model in the coming update.

Gallimimus rework

Old Gallimimus model will be replaced with a new one. The model will be one of the first dinosaurs to feature fur/feathers to make it more accurate. All animations will be reworked too.

Reworked Gallimimus will not be part of the next update but we wanted to share current progress with you!

Iguanodon rework

We are also working on a new Iguanodon model with new animations.

Reworked Iguanodon will not be part of the next update but we wanted to share current progress with you!

These improvements you can expect to see in the coming updates!

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

May Update has been published!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Today’s update brings improvements to hitboxes and new accessories for characters. Read on to find out more.

Thanks again for our community! You helped us shape the content with your direct input. We are thankful for all the feedback! ːsteamhappyː

High scores

High score list displays 100 best scores instead of ten per dinosaur. Whenever player claims / taxes a dinosaur with a high score they get a notification with the position in the high score list. High score list view is updated immediately when player makes it to the list. Please note that the list will display only the highest score you have for a certain dinosaur. You cannot have multiple high score entries in one dinosaur.

Improved dinosaur hitboxes

All dinosaurs have improved hitboxes. All dinosaurs walking with four legs now have hitbox location in front legs (hits register into Thigh_R or Thigh_L). New hitboxes were added to necks, tails, wings etc. so that they match the models better. Gaps found in hitboxes were fixed for many dinosaurs which should prevent shots not being registered that looked like direct hits. Some hitboxes were resized to better match the dinosaur physique.

New accessories: Glasses

New glasses can be purchased for your character. They have different types of lenses from black to fully clear lenses. Here is a list of the new glasses available:

  • Khaki Sunglasses Back
  • Khaki Sunglasses Black Tint
  • Protective Glasses Clear
  • Protective Glasses Yellow
  • Protective Glasses Black
  • Safety Glasses Clear
  • Safety Glasses Yellow
  • Safety Glasses Black

Other improvements

  • Updated French translation (Thanks MagSouille!)
  • Fixed floating spikes in Pachycephalosaurus corpse
  • Fixed helicopter from dropping corpses
  • Improved Steam friend joining to wait for player data to be loaded before joining match
  • Improvement to culling: Trees near player do not stop casting shadows when out of view
  • Improvement to spawn location: When you quit in a special location you will spawn there too
  • Improved player collision: Now when player is against a wall or any other block, jumping is not prevented if there is ground below player. This also helps with not getting stuck in rocks and other places.
  • Adjusted some distant tree colors
  • Added new option for ADS (aim down sights) toggle: Have it on and aiming behaves like before. Toggle it off and you need to hold aim button to aim with all weapons.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a rare issue where sometimes claimed trophy would not register to server.
  • Fix for underwater sounds played while killed on land
  • Fixed issue with feedback menu breaking main menu items layout after back button pressed
  • Purchasing hats, glasses or clothes now instantly updates the selection list, so accidentally buying the same item again won’t be possible.

Open testing for upcoming major update!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Open testing of the upcoming major update is now available! If you want to help us locate any possible issues and give feedback before the release you can try out the test build.

The included screenshots have been taken using the latest test build.

Things to take into account before starting testing

The open testing version of the game utilizes different server. You won’t be using the same player in the test version but start from zero with a fresh player. Once you move back to the main server you will continue progress with your existing account and lose any progress made in the test server.

Before you start transferring your game into the open testing mode please make a backup of your player.txt file. It can be found in %steamlibrary_folder%/Prehistoric Hunt/Prehistoric_Hunt_Data/player.txt . The file contains your trophy lodge setup and it will be overwritten if you don’t take a backup. Once you move back from the test version to the actual game you can copy this backup file back to it’s original location.

Please note that when you have the test build active you cannot launch the actual game. When you want to switch back to it in the Betas-menu you will need to choose ‘None’ to get back. You can freely switch between the versions.

Instructions how to get the test version

Right click the game name in Steam library list view and choose ‘Properties’. Then choose tab ‘Betas’. From the dropdown choose “public_test”. Steam will now download the test version and you’ll see in your library view instead of “Prehistoric Hunt” name “Prehistoric Hunt [public_test].

New things to test

As the next update will feature the graphics overhaul we’d like to get feedback how the new system runs on your setups. Overall feedback on the update is also welcome. We have still time to make alterations on content based on your feedback.

We’ve listed known issues / missing features in the open testing version in a list in Discord and will update the list based on your feedback.

What new stuff in addition to the graphics can you check? In short it’s here:

  • New item: Rangefinder
  • Death screen shows amount of dropped items if any
  • New clothes and characters
  • Bushes sway from player and dinosaur interaction
  • Water has waves and player swims along waves sometimes going underwater
  • Dinosaurs have blood marks if hurt by other dinosaurs
  • The newest death marker is shown with bigger icon than older death markers in the map
  • Login animation when starting game
  • Fix for multiplayer sleep issue
  • Taxidermized dinosaur which has high score appears in high score
  • How trophy lodge runs
  • New main menu background works

Thank you for your support! ːsteamhappyː
