New Video - Locating the PSF 2019 folder in Windows and macOS

The most difficult part of customizing PSF 2019 is knowing where to put files. This video helps you locate the PSF 2019 data folder. You should watch this video before any videos on sharing images, leagues, etc. Enjoy!

Patch 2018.0905 Notes

I've just released the first update for PSF 2019, based on feedback from users.

Update 2018.0905 (Sept 5, 2018)
If your career has a problem from the initial version, you should either simulate the entire current season or start with a new career. However, I don't expect you to have any problems.

Fixes:
- several fixes to Career play when coaching or simulating individual games
- now correctly update Career History all the time
- now automatically advance to offseason when simulating super bowl
- fix display of divisions to vary by conference
- fixed OT rules for regular season and playoffs

Enhancements:
- Can now switch image sets on existing career!
- Can now switch image sets on the fly!
- Analyze Game now displays Point Spread (desktop versions)
- Default End Zones now use all caps on team name and nickname
- several cosmetic changes

Another very nice set of images!

Hey, if you want to check out another set of images (VERY nice images!) of actually different fields and end zones per team, here's the link from a fan. The snow and rain fields are quite different than my default ones, but these look GREAT!

For now, to switch image sets on a league, you have to "edit" the league and manually type in the name of the image set you want. And you can't change the image set for your career after it's started. I'm working to redesign that, missed that one!

Calling Plays

Someone here asked a great question about calling plays. With PSF you can quickly simulate games or even seasons, and you can even watch a game played out between two computer coaches.

But there's incredible power and fun in the coaching side, too! In fact, I love that aspect of football (and because I love playing my brother). Just set the coach to Player 1 or Player 2 (rather than Computer). Now, some caveats.

Most important, there are two game levels - Beginner and Expert. Beginner is great fun and fast, but you're basically leaning over to your coordinator and calling "run off tackle" or "throw short" (or "defend inside runs"), and then your coordinator sets the details.

But now, if you want full bore control, select Expert. Now you can do something like this:
1) Counter Left
2) with the HB (or FB)
3) from the Pro I (or any of 12 formations)
4) strong right or strong left
5) tap any flanker and send him in motion

or on a pass play, tell your FB to stay in and block, and set the passing routes of every receiver. AND see at a glance every receiver's ratings and game stats.

Defense is the same. Beginner is easier and great for fast games. But in Expert mode, you can
1) focus on Run or Pass
2) call your formation (4-3, 3-4, Nickel, Dime, etc)
3) shift your line, if four man (stunt, over, under, tight, wide, normal)
4) call your coverage (man, 2-deep, 3-deep)
5) set your run keys (normal, key on flow, key on a man)
6) if in pass defense, double a receiver

And in blitz, you can easily blitz any linebacker(s). Maybe send the LILB and RILB to stuff the inside, or just your ROLB, etc.

And again, you can see all the receiver's ratings and stats, so you'll know which man is most dangerous.

One more thing, be sure to click all the buttons, because you also have access to:
1) clock management
2) a playbook where you can save your ten favorite plays
3) reports (situation, previous play, game stats, injuries, achievements, scouting)
4) current game highlights reel
5) AND VERY IMPORTANT - the coach icon in the lower left. The AI can give you advice or even suggest a play for you.

And you can switch between Beginner and Expert at any time.

Enjoy!

Real league, real images!

Hey, a fan has just given me a link where he's hosting the real league, real csv file, and real images! I think he also has the instructions I shared out! Check it out!

If he doesn't have the instructions, my instructions for sharing are here:

Editing, Sharing, and Customizing

Because there are two steps involved (how do I edit, and how do I get shared files onto my computer), I wrote two documents.

Home Field Advantage

You can turn this off in Settings, but I wanted to let you know that in PSF, homefield advantage is roughly three points.

To test it out, I had the Rams at the Chargers and ran 1000 simulations multiple times, and got either a tie (most often) or a one point spread.

Then I switched and had the Chargers visit at the Rams (Rams now have homefield advantage), and each time, the point spread wound up being Rambs by three.

Analyze Game feature

Thanks to a good friend who's great with statistics, I can now provide point spreads in the Analyze Game feature! I'll have that in there in the first Steam update, and let me know of anything else that might be nice from the Analyze Game.
