Tweaking Teams

I thought I'd share something I've done recently, so it might spur your own creativity.

Editing leagues involves converting to and from CSV files (easily editable in Excel or any spreadsheet editor).
league <---> csv file

So, I would edit the csv file, which was in the "import_export" folder, tweaking a team or two. Then in the game, I would import the csv file and overwrite the league I was testing.

Then I headed to Single Season play and simulated the 2018 season several times (very fast on my desktop!). If I thought something needed tweaking, or if I was just curious (what if I change this team to pass a little more?), I could change the csv file, import, etc.

Very fast!

Oh, and in career play, you can edit each year's draft pool!

Customizing PSF 2019

I've implemented Steam Cloud, which is very handy for keeping your customizations and saved games, etc across machines. However, I haven't had time to implement Steam Workshop yet.

So, I wanted to briefly explain how you'll customize PSF 2019 within Windows and MacOS.

At a high level, it's simply a matter of sharing leagues (binary files) and image sets (folders). Your game has three subfolders under it, and the game will tell you the path when you click on the "Customizing PSF" button. The folders are:

  • leagues (every league there is available to your game, just paste new ones there)
  • import_export (more on that later)
  • images (here is where you'll create subfolders)

So, the game will already have

  • leagues
    2019_leagues.lgs
  • import_export
    2019_leagues.csv
  • images
default/ (don't change these, you'll lose your changes)

and you might add, say a set of real nfl images and another set of real college images, and maybe a set of fantasy images (orcs, elves, etc). Heck, maybe a sci-fi set, you get the idea.

Each of those would go in a folder under "images" so now your game folder looks like this:

psf2019

  • leagues

    • 2019_leagues.lgs
    • 2019_real_nfl_names.lgs
    • lotro_players.lgs

  • import_export

    • 2019_leagues.csv

  • images

    • real_nfl/
    • 1977_images/
    • lotro/
    • scifi/

and at any time, you can launch the "mini editor" for a league and change the name of its images folder, and it immediately starts using those images!

PSF default league and images

With the csv file and image sets finalized, I've uploaded them to Google Drive, so that people can start creating their own leagues and sets of images.

Let me know if you have any problems reaching this. Meanwhile, I know at least one fellow who's working on a full set of real images. When he's done, I think he's going to make them available as well!

Watch or Coach All Teams now, in Career Play!

I finished this feature after creating the video. A lot of people have requested the option to watch or coach all teams and games in career play. I'm happy to say that I've now implemented that!

In addition, some folks asked me to improve "watch a simulation" by getting rid of all pausing (penalty screens, injuries, scoring summaries, ends of quarters, etc), and I've done that as well!

In addition, you can now change your team's game plan at any point in the season, and can even tweak it for individual games!
