Punch Club

Version 1.01

  • Fixed a bug with some tooltips on some resolutions
  • Fixed missing French letter œ
  • Unlocking of a sports equipement shop was moved further by the gameplay (to prevent player trying to save $200 in the very beginning and being constantly robbed)
  • Minor technical fixes
  • Fixed deadlock when you had more slots then available fight moves
  • Made selection at the start of the game wich allows you to chose a starting perk.

Punch Club is out now!

Congratulations everyone, you did it!

Spoilers below. Do not read this unless you want minor story spoilers.

It took you 36 hours to beat Punch Club. You managed to get a girlfriend, but you made some bad choices along the way. You went to prison, got caught dealing drugs, and drugs then you took some drugs and managed to beat the game using the “bad” route. It took you 167 in-game days.

For 3 whole in-game weeks you were saving money to buy training equipment for your basement. Initially you went for buffing all your stats equally, but found passion for agility and that’s how you prevailed!

Over 71,000 of you participated in playing, and it was an incredible experience. We believe this was a very well organized Twitch Plays experience, as on average you were playing at the speed of a normal play through, with the exception of late game events.

Thank you all for your support and have fun in Punch Club.

Clarification on the release date for Punch Club

Hey guys! We wanted to offer a clarification on the release date for Punch Club, as a number of users appear to have been confused by how we've worded it. Apologies for that! Here's the situation in a nutshell:

- You can currently pre-order Punch Club if you wish on the Steam page
- Those pre-orders will unlock when "Twitch Plays Punch Club" manages to beat the game, as found here: http://www.twitch.tv/twitchplayspunchclub
- At the latest, the game will launch on January 25 if Twitch hasn't beaten the game by then (but we're pretty sure they will have)
- When Twitch beats Punch Club (or by January 25), the game will become available to purchase and play on Steam.

If anyone has pre-ordered the game, and didn't understand any of this, we're sorry about that! Feel free to ask for a refund. This is all for a bit of fun, so we obviously don't want people getting upset about something that's meant to be fun.

[And apologies for the convoluted post before this one. We're so tired. When can we sleep. Please let us sleep.]

As a bonus, we will add ourselves as enemies in the game. So you can beat us up.

How the game benefits from Twitch Plays

Hi everyone,

I wanted to spend a minute to talk about how Punch Club will benefit from the whole Twitch Plays experiment. In the midst of this crazy launch (currently just around 1k people playing at http://www.twitch.tv/twitchplayspunchclub ) we forgot to mention one important thing.

The game isn't done yet. Before it gets pushed live we are doing an important balancing update which is based on everything we're seeing in the Twitch Plays Punch Club livestream.

This includes balancing of the progression system, enemies, and random events that happen.

SPOILERS BELOW! Can't talk about specific game design things without spoiling some of the story

Back in October we started beta testing (as you can see in earlier forum posts), and the first 3 hours of Punch Club were incredibly fun. Then, after an important plot point, we saw people losing interest. It became a grinder game and wasn't as fun.

So we started to add-on more mechanics. These include the random events like going out to bars, having to manage your social life (your girlfriend) and also the late game events.

With the closed betas we were able to get the game to 95% of where it needs to be. Now, we're sitting watching the chat play, and realizing what kind of moments players will enjoy most -- figuring out ways for them to happen more often. Adding so much content late in the game's development cycle, coupled with a very tight schedule, makes testing incredibly difficult.

We're also cautious about players getting stuck. In these style of games, it's important for the player not to end up in an endless loop. So if anyone can get stuck, it's the Twitch chat.

I take responsibility for unclear initial communication, as it could seem to some that the game was out, and then wasn't. This, in combination with lack of explanation on the pre-launch update, can make us come off as some evil game company.

We're going to add ourselves in the game as NPCs that you can beat up.

[H1]What if Twitch never beats the game?

While this is very unlikely, our plan B is to play the game ourselves in the chat and make sure it doesn't release later than January 25th -- aligning with PAX South.

Twitch Plays Punch Club - it's in your hands

You can help decide when Punch Club launches on Steam by participating in Twitch Plays Punch Club!

It's in your hands. Don't fail us.

Clarification: As stated on the Steam page for the game, pre-orders are currently available, and will unlock when Twitch beats the game. If anyone has pre-ordered the game under the impression that they would get the game immediately, we're very sorry about that! Feel free to get a full refund. Otherwise, Twitch will most likely beat the game sometime within the next week, so you haven't got long to wait!

Version 1.0 uploaded.

Just uploaded the final version of the game. It contains different small fixes, balance tweaks and complete localizations to all 4 languages - English, German, French and Russian.

Getting ready for the release.

Update 0.90 is live!

We've been keeping a silence for a while. Because we've been working hard on a HUGE update.

ver. 0.90

  • Added Roy's (your friend) storyline
  • Roy's house
  • New game mechanics - random event (going to the bar)
  • Roy's sister (Adrian) and love
  • New game mechanics - temporary effects (buffs/debuffs)
  • Added new feature: training together with Roy
  • New character - chemist with his "magic" potions
  • Changed leagues balance and ultimate league (made it easier to get the "prison" ending)
  • The whole new mechanics after prison/Russia - the carrier management (upgrading actions, unlocking new opponents depending on your fame, etc.)
  • New fight mechanics added: endurance fights (6 opponents in a row, no HP regeneration, prizes after each 2)
  • New locations added: 4
  • New characters added: 5
  • Cat interaction (saying more will be a spoiler)
  • Countless bugfixes and balance tweaks

One important note: as we had to change the whole game, your saves are not compatible with this version. Sorry for that, that's beta, you know. But we promise, we will not reset savegames anymore. The game is getting to its final version :)

About future plans and release

Hey, guys! We have to make an announcement. We've shifted the release date to yearly 2016 because we want to add some great content in the game to fix a pair of boring parts of the game.

More information can be found in FAQ: http://steamcommunity.com/app/394310/discussions/1/490121928357590378/

Also, we're working on French localization right now. It will be available in the next patch.

Version 0.86 uploaded - some major balance changes

We've made some balance changes that will make your leveling-up more comfortable and stats drop not so hard. But this affected your level, so if you were level 10, your current level will be around 7 (as well as your opponents!). And that's actually good ;)

ver. 0.86

  • Some major re-balancing. Changed the STR/AGL/STM gross curve. What does it mean? It means that previously if you had 1000 internal strength points, you had 10 level of strength (every level costed 100 points). Now every next level requires more points, so 1000 points gives you level 7. So, your saved character will lose the level number (as you opponents). But actually it is good. Because you will not lose so much levels every day.
  • Increased skill points rewards for winning.
  • Now it is impossable to grind Silver for skill points (the fights are limited for each day).
  • Changed the order of some skills in the skill tree (you may experience some weird issues loading your previous savegame).
  • Opponents re-balancing.
  • Fixed a bunch of bugs.
  • Some GUI improvements.
