Our Mid-Winter Update is now live, and brings a host of balance changes, tweaks, and bug fixes:

MID-WINTER UPDATE



MAP UPDATES



Deep Embrace

  • Fixed the collision issue near lower Light Armor
  • Added ability collision in the vista outside the power-up window


Exile

  • Fixed the collision at Heavy Machinegun Teleporter




Insomnia
New Duel item layout:

  • Railgun moved to Power-up Dungeon

CHAMPION UPDATES



Clutch


  • Starting Armor Points increased from 75 -> 100


SCALEBEARER




  • Reduced passive Forward Ground Acceleration from 0.75 to 0.5
  • Reduced Bullrush Ground Acceleration from 170 to 150
  • Reduced Interruption Speed from 240 ups to 200 ups; if a rushing Scalebearer is slowed below the interruption speed, the Bullrush will stop
  • Added a 200-320 ups damage range for Bullrush so that below 320 ups hits deal 25 dmg instead of 0 dmg (This is only during bullrush, still no passive damage below 400 ups)


WEAPON UPDATES



SHOTGUNS

  • Added a center pellet to both Shotguns (increasing both max damages by 5, to 85 & 125 max dmg)


NAILGUNS

  • Nails now do 10 & 15 damage instead of 12 & 20 (which is 100 & 150 DPS instead of 120 & 200 DPS) — BUT they are easier to hit with now. Nails are now 10u wide instead of 6.4u wide


SOUND UPDATES

  • New Audio Hit Beep Options: ( OFF | DAMAGE DEALT | ADDITIVE )
  • Reduced elevated pitch range from |-6 steps to +8 steps| to |-4 steps to +4 steps|
  • Reduced elevation distance volume reduction from -5db to -3db at the max attenuation
  • Fixed landing & fall sound volumes & mix
  • Fixed Slash third-person crouchslide sounds after death
  • Increased the volume of the Strogg >25 hp pain sounds
  • Added four new Strogg VO lines (1 frag, 1 assist, 1 respawn, 1 low health)
  • Prevent change weapon sound events from playing from the corpses of dead players & bots
  • Increased Diablo SSG shot sounds by +2db

Season 13 Winter Update

Season's greetings, Quakers!

It's that time of year when the stars align just right in the cold winter sky and the Elder Gods deign to bestow gifts upon those who fight for their amusement. This year, they're presenting their Champions with an all-new arena, Insomnia, along with a new weapon vanity in the seasonal Battle Pass, balance tweaks, and bug fixes.

Season 13 Battle Pass


This season's Battle Pass is the gift that keeps on giving, with tons of rewards for you to unlock including holiday-themed profile icons, nameplates, and vanity items!

New Vanity - ICE BEAM Lightning Gun


Give your enemies the cold shoulder with this new ice-themed Lightning Gun vanity, available in the Season 13 Battle Pass!


New Map - Insomnia


I shall never sleep calmly again when I think of the horrors that lurk ceaselessly behind life in time and in space, and of those unhallowed blasphemies from elder stars which dream beneath the sea...

Your restless battle continues within the ancient stone walls of this cathedral-fortress to Volkerh, the Whispering One. This moonlit arena is available for Duel, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Clan Arena modes!

  • BJ's Dual Wield now treats all weapons the same: increasing their firing rate by 1/3rd

  • Unified movement & knockback box sizes within weight classes to 0.8m, 0.9m, and 1.0m:

Weapon Updates


  • Shotgun:
    • Reduced pellet count and increased damage per pellet (same max damage)
      • Old: 20 pellets x 4 dmg = 80, SSG - 30 pellets x 4 dmg = 120
      • New: 16 pellets x 5 dmg = 80, SSG - 24 pellets x 5 dmg = 120
    • Falloff Distance: reduced pellet damage by 1 for every 9.6 meters (384u) (Minimum 1 dmg per pellet when over 1920u away)
  • Nailguns:
    • The Nailgun splash radius now matches the Super Nailgun splash radius of 20u
    • Both the Nailgun and Super Nailgun projectiles have been changed to 1800 ups instead of 2000 ups

Gameplay Fixes



  • Fixed the Respawn button not working during warmup
  • The match will now end immediately when the CTF mercy limit is triggered. (Instead of scheduling it in 3 seconds.) This resolves issues when hitting the mercy limit near the end of the round
  • Fixed Marauder Shotgun shells not vanishing in Ghostwalk
  • Fixed Shaft Lightning Gun glass not vanishing in Ghostwalk
  • Fixed Terminator Shotgun beam not vanishing in Ghostwalk

Sound Updates



  • Fixed 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Sound options
  • Fixed a large number of sounds cutting out
  • Fixes sounds cutting out during/after Dual Wield
  • Fixes a lot of cases for weapon shots cutting out
  • Fixes a lot of cases of missing enemy sounds (steps, jumps, lands, etc)
  • Fixed explosions cutting out
  • Fixed range inconsistencies in champion movement sounds, now using 35m for all sounds (previously, some were 32, 35, 37.5)
  • Fixed The Lurching King / Exile map loading loading music
  • Normalized footstep volumes (some were too loud, some were too quiet; now they should be just right)
  • Made pain sounds for teammates quieter
  • Slighty increased the pitch of footsteps and jump sounds above you, and decreased the pitch of those below you
  • Slight reduced the volume of occluded footsteps and jump sounds (helps with sounds through walls sounding like they are right next to you)
  • Sound Mix - Slight decreased in third person champion voice, pain sounds, and death sounds volume

The Dark Zone

Champion Updates



DEATH KNIGHT


  • Fireballs splash damage now decreases with distance from 25 damage for a direct hit down to 10 damage at its max distance
  • Fire dot duration has been reduced from 10 to 7 seconds


DOOM SLAYER


  • Removed all auto-targeting and camera auto-lock behaviors, in favor of a new Berserk lunge-punch
  • Double Jump velocity reduced from 7.5 to 6.875 m/s
  • Increased the volume of the third-person double jump sound effects


NYX


  • Increased Ghostwalk telefrag radius from 0.5 to 0.75 meters (20 to 30u)


SORLAG


  • Acid dot duration has been reduced from 10 to 7 seconds


Miscellaneous Game Updates


CHANGES




  • Updated Play Now artwork
  • Extend post-match delay before forcing clients to the main menu from 25 to 45 seconds
  • In Sacrafice, Strogg will now detonate the drone when second pressing the ability key while holding the soul, instead of throwing the soul
  • Team and Ranked game modes now limit the number of Emergency Respawns a player is permitted from the Esc->Respawn menu
  • Added the ability for a game mode to have a minimum player score (-10), and kick a game client when their score goes below the minimum allowed score with the assumption the client is AFK or griefing
  • Disable the emergency respawn button after it is clicked, and have it remained disabled until after max respawn time has passed
  • Slightly reduced the Quad Damage firing sfx in third person


FIXES




  • Fixed the visible mouse cursor during map loading when raw mouse input is enabled
  • Fixed crouch sliding sound effects from lingering after a Slash or Strogg dies while sliding
  • Clear on-screen ability fx at the end of the match. Fixes Strogg's Peeker, DOOM Slayer's Berserk, and Anarki's Injection overlays for example
  • Updated the Scoreboard graphics and medals positions to improve chat message visibility
  • Removed the broken Watch Browser menu and repositioned main menu icons
  • Fixed Legal Header size that overlapped and hid the Press-X-to-Close graphic in some languages

Quake Champions Summer 2021 Update

As the old summer adage goes, “sun’s out, guns out”—and there’ll be plenty of weapons-in-hand in the Arena! (Hopefully yours pointed at the enemy, and not vice-versa.) We’re celebrating 25 years of Quake in this update, so get ready for a rocket blast from the past with a retro map, classic weapon skins, and lots more—including new anti-cheat measures to keep the fighting fair!

New Map



  • THE DARK ZONE – The textures may be retro, but the gameplay is timeless. Return to one of the classic Quake multiplayer maps, DM6 – The Dark Zone.

GAME OPTIONS



  • Added NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency - Reflex Low Latency Mode aligns game engine work to complete just-in-time for rendering, eliminating the GPU render queue and reducing CPU back pressure in GPU intensive scenes. This delivers latency reductions above and beyond existing driver-only techniques, such as NVIDIA Ultra Low Latency Mode. Available in Game Settings. (Nvidia Maxwell, Pascal, Turing, or Ampere GPUs with R455 drivers required.)
  • Menu Framerate Limit - Added a max FPS Limit for while in the main menu. (Default 120, min 60, max 250)
  • Streamer Mode - Use the Main Menu Framerate Limit when minimized to maintain the stream's FPS quality.

HUD OPTIONS



  • Damage Number Summation - Damage numbers now show a total of recent damage dealt to a target, aggregating high rate of fire weapons into a combined damage dealt number. Select between Off, Damage Type (default), and All Recent Damage.
  • Crosshair Hit Color - Choose a crosshair color to flash when dealing damage. Must be enabled with "Crosshair Hit Color Enabled".
  • Crosshair Hit Scale - Players may now choose to scale their crosshair either larger or smaller when hitting a target.
  • Speedometer - Players may choose between "Off", "Below Crosshair", and "Below Portrait" to alter the HUD placement of the Speedometer.
  • Ability Info Position - Players may now choose to move the Ability Icon from the center of the screen and push it to either the LEFT or RIGHT side, useful for either players with centered weapons, or those who just wish to group this information near either the Health & Armor Vitals or the Ammo info.

CONTROL OPTIONS



  • Mouse Input – now choose between Raw Mouse or DirectX mouse input
  • Respawn - You may now change the default "SPACE" bind for issuing a respawn on the death screen.

AUDIO OPTIONS



  • HitBeep - Select the sound made when hitting a target. Choose between:
    • Off (no sound)
    • Damage Based (sound based on how much damage was dealt)
    • Single Sfx (play the base hit sound regardless of damage dealt)

New Anti-Cheat



  • We have added anti-tamper security methods and have taken actions to significantly reduce in-game cheating and exploits. This added level of protection will continue to strengthen over time.
  • We recommend that any users experiencing issues disable third-party software while playing; in particular, any software that attempts to integrate with our game by creating overlays or performs keyboard or mouse automations.
    • Some GPU “tuning applications such as Riva Tuner or MSI AfterBurner may cause compatibility issues. If you experience gameplay issues, please disable these applications while playing.

  • Test Signing is not supported. The game will not launch if Test Signing is enabled.

  • Fixes to prevent Ranger from falling out of the map when using the Dire Orb too close to the hole in the Heavy Armor wall

  • Added additional respawn locations and reduced the cooldown on the existing respawn locations
  • Removed the ability to place totems around the edges of the Heavy Armor pit, the edges of the Railgun pit, and behind the teleporters

Ruins of Sarnath

  • Fixed Tri-bolt staircase collision

The Molten Falls

  • Removed an out-of-bounds totem spot near Mega Health

Vale of Pnath

  • Increased the cooldown of the spawn near the Heavy Armor pillar to prevent it from being chosen as a valid option in quick succession

Duel Updates



  • Heavy Champions now spawn with 75 AP instead of 100 AP, the same health & armor stack used by heavy Champions in all other game modes

Anarki

  • Fixed his movement box height to prevent his head (and your view) from clipping through ceilings
  • Adjusted the volume of Anarki's first-person hoverboard sounds

Nyx

  • Fixed Nyx being able to telefrag enemies (via exiting a Teleporter) while still in Ghostwalk
  • Fixed the Q3 Shotgun bar not vanishing with Nyx Ghostwalk

Strogg & Peeker

  • Peeker Gib updates - reduced lifetime from 7 to 3 sec, disabled his glowing eye when dead, removed smoke fx to help performance

CHANGES



  • Optimized UI for Improved Menu Transitions
  • Reduced the volume of the Citizen Kane shots
  • Increased the Framerate Limiter max value from 300 to 500.
  • Main Menu UI - removed the items unlocked box, the total items per champion weren't always obtainable, upsetting players
  • In Settings-> HUD, sorted Enemy Indicators above Teammate so that it would not be hidden below the fold and because it is prevalent in all game modes.
  • Very slight adjustments to the Battle Pass menu (font weights, colors, etc) and the Battle Pass main menu icon
  • Removed the ability to disable reflections in the config file.
  • Reordered customization tabs to Outfit, Weapon, and Progression, and set Outfit as the default tab.
  • Removed the unused tab on the Player Profile Menu
  • Removed the two unused tabs on the in-game Social Menu

In-game Display Names


The following display name rules have changed:

  • Names must be 4 or more characters
  • Names cannot have leading, consecutive, or trailing spaces
If your username doesn't meet the new requirements, it will prompt you to rename. These changes ensure that all player names will be searchable within Contacts and reduce cases of impersonation.

Season 10 Spring Update



Springtime is the perfect time to update your wardrobe with all-new Vanity items in the Season 10 Battle Pass! Retro is in with Champion and weapon vanities inspired from classic Quake games, like the Quake III “Last Judgement” Rocket Launcher and the Quake “Fiendish Hood” for Ranger. Plus, this season brings another round of updates and bug fixes!

  • Old Painless Heavy Machinegun - The chaingun model will now lower out of view when zooming in

Quake Champions Winter 2020 Update

Winter has come, and it's brought a brand new Quake Champions update! This update includes our first ever ice-themed map, Exile; and a CTF version of The Longest Yard! There are even more presents under the Quakemas tree with new game modes, Season 9 Battle Pass rewards, and tons of balance updates!

CHAMPION MOVEMENT


We now properly enforce maximum speed caps for Champions both in the air and on the ground. Previously, speed caps only applied to Champions on the ground, but they could indefinitely go beyond their speed cap if they remained airborne via Rocket Jumps. We now still allow such similar bursts of speed from RJs to initially go over their maximum speed, but now those characters will have their air speed degrade down to the intended speed cap.

The largest impact of this change will be in CTF when some characters attempt to cross the map in seconds to either attack the flag, escape with the flag, or chase to retrieve the flag. In these situations you'll see that the Champions who can currently go above their intended max speed will now be somewhat kept in check.

CHAMPIONS



  • Anarki - Max speed 15.625 m/s (625 ups) to 16 m/s (640 ups)
  • Athena - Max speed 50 m/s (2000 ups) to 25 m/s (1000 ups)
