New Campaign Mode: PART 1/3

Hi travelers!
Railroads & Catacombs has a lot of new features, the most interesting is the new campaign mode. After listening to the feedback you have given me I have decided to make some changes in the structure of the game to make it more interesting and deep.

CAMPAIGN MODE



Now, the only way to play the game is the campaign mode, in which we will have to take command of the Rosalin and its crew.

THE ROSALIN



The crew of the Rosalin has been entrusted with a mission, to go into what is known as The Labyrinth, a maze of rails where time and space are twisted in a spiral of madness and horror. His mission is to investigate and discover its secrets.

THE CREW



Now you can handle and manage several characters, there are different classes and each one has its own mission in the train, and different features when it comes to exploring and fighting.

THE ACADEMY



It could be said that it is the only safe settlement that exists in the world of R&C. No one remembers its foundation, nor when they started sending expeditions to the Labyrinth. Its leaders rule the place with an iron fist, no one escapes their creed.

The LABYRINTH



The Academy knows very little about it, the only certainty is that it keeps growing, its thick fog covers more and more land. Beyond that fog, little is known about what is happening or what remains, since very few have returned. Those lucky enough to return have lost their sanity forever.



The release


These changes and new features are taking me more time than I thought, so I have had to delay the early access release to this summer, and the final game will be released a few months later. I want Railroads & Catacombs to be deeper and its horror atmosphere richer in detail, this is not a simple card game, I want it to be much more.

But you will be able to test the new features soon in the playtest of the game, I need your feedback to polish it as much as possible. I don't know the exact date yet.

TRY THE NEW SANITY MECHANICS
- I have gone deeper into this mechanic to give it a richer playable aspect. Now, there are 3 states of Sanity, Lucid, Paranoid and Hysterical, each giving advantages or disadvantages to combat and exploration.


NEW TUTORIAL
- I have changed the tutorial to make it more friendly for new players and to better detail Sanity's mechanics.


NEW LANGUAGE: CHINESE!
- The whole game is already translated into Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Korean are coming!


AND MORE CHANGES:
- Changes in the interface, in the tooltips. Some game terms have been renamed to make it easier for the player to understand everything.


IMPORTANT CHANGES ON THE WAY!
- At the moment I can't say anything until the testing phase, but these are things that are in high demand by players, in particular one that will be quite surprising. This will add even more depth and progression to the game.

The idea is to create a world where you want to live and survive, come back again and again and prove your worth and the worth of your men...

UPDATE NOTES





SANITY MECHANIC REVAMP
- I have gone deeper into this mechanic to give it a richer playable aspect. Now, there are 3 states of Sanity, Lucid, Paranoid and Hysterical, each giving advantages or disadvantages to combat and exploration.

- Now the number of Stamina points (what you need to use cards in combat) depends on Sanity's status. As you explore this dark world you lose your mind and fear takes over, reducing your ability to respond.

- In a lucid state your character can pick up more information from his environment and is more prepared for a possible combat, this means that you can see more information on your mini-map and surprise the enemy.

- If your Sanity is very low, your perception of your surroundings will be very poor, you will barely see any information on your mini-map and enemies will surprise and ambush you with ease, losing the first turn of combat.

- In addition, character animations have been added to represent each state, and combat animations have been added to represent each state. The character will now tremble and become nervous as their Sanity drops.

AMBIENT AND SANITY SOUNDS
- Ambient sounds have been added to make the world more believable. Sounds have also been added for each state of Sanity, you can hear the character's breathing speed up as their Sanity drops to the point of hysteria and whimpering in panic.

WOUNDS EFFECTS
- Now you can see the state of wounds of your character, as your life points decrease, wounds will appear on the character's face.


BALANCED CHANGES
- The number of segments in each zone has been adjusted, it is now slightly larger than in the demo version.

- Adjusted the number of Bones and Wood that you earn after combat and exploration to be a little less.

Dev Blog: Working On Improving Exploration

Hey Travelers! , I´m currently working on some changes and implementations on the game in order to improve the experience. These changes are focused on exploration, the general feedback is that this part is the less interesting of the game. So I am completely redefining it, now exploration will be more exciting and have a fully reward system.



You will have a backpack with a maximum capacity that you can improve, there will be more types of resources and objects to collect, some of them will be more difficult to find than others and can only be found if you explore a dangerous area.
All these objects will be used to craft and unlock things in the train, wagons, cardactions, gifts, background cards, background improvements and more.

The idea is to fill your backpack to the brim with loot to use on the train. The more you explore and the more fights you do the more loot you will receive. In the future there will be abandoned buildings and dungeons. It is also possible that you will find secret areas, etc.

Tell me what you think about these changes.

Apart from this I am also working on improving the tutorial making the information easier to assimilate for new players, fixing bugs and making some changes in some warpaths.

Demo Update

UPDATE NOTES





Hey travelers, after a few days after the demo release I bring you this update with the following corrections and changes:

- Fixed crash in the deck building system.
- Character movement improved! The glide in the vertical movement has been removed.
- Boss location system has been revamped, now you are free to explore the entire zone without the need to find the boss blocking your exploration.


Changes:

Goira changes (I´ve realized that a lot of players find a wall in the first boss of second level, so has been modified):

- Hit points reduction, from 85 to 65.
- Maximum damage of Devil Courtesy has been reduced to 5 instead 7
- Maximum damage of Bloody Feel has been reduced to 7 instead 8

Bomber changes (same that first boss, a few players have reached the level 3 because of this guy, so has been modified):

- Hit points reduction, from 100 to 80.
- Armor points reduction, from 30 to 16.
- Maximum damage of Burning Skies has been reduced to 8 instead 12
- Maximum attacks of Burning Skies has been reduced to 7 instead 8

Now the enemies have a name!

Exploration Changes


Now the number of empty segments have decreased significantly and the zones are smaller. When you find a resouce will obtain a larger amount. So there are less segments in each zone, for this reason the starting sanity of each background has decreased in the same percentage. I will do more changes to exploration if it needs.

Beta Update

UPDATE NOTES





Hey travelers, after a few days after the beta release I bring you this update with the following corrections and changes:

- Fixed bug in the map creation.
- Fixed bug when using the rest button and then open the map.
- Fixed bug in the save file.
- Fixed bug in Warpaths loading.
- Fixed bug in Warpaths levels.


Changes:

- Changes in the first boss of the third zone, a mechanic that caused confusion to the players has been removed, in future updates I will see if it can be modified to include it again.

- Changes in the third boss of the third zone, it has been completely redesigned.

- Now the level 1 boss is a true tutorial, has half the life of the original and enemies are added slowly (this tutorial boss is only in level 1, once you pass this level this boss returns to be as strong as before).

- Changes in the second boss of the third zone, it has been modified from 20 to 5 crimson armor and does less damage. I will include a new mechanic in this boss in the next patch.

- All Backgrounds have changed a little bit. Now Survivor has more bones at the beginning to balance with Explorer and Executor. Handicapped now starts with 35 bones and 1 health point... ;P


NECROMANER REVAMP
- Pandemic cardaction has been added.

- Epidemic Healing cardaction has been added.

- Plague and Pestilence are now part of the starting quintet, players will be able to perform interesting combos from the start.

- Decay has been completely redesigned, making it much more combinable with the rest of Warpaths.

- Putrid Restoration has been improved

CLOSED BETA LAUNCH TOMORROW - JUNE 1



The time has come! The closed beta opens tomorrow!

We will send the invitations by email, if we don't have your email or if you didn't receive it come to our Discord channel, open a ticket and we will give it to you there right away!



The beta includes all the content of the game (at least what has been done and finished to date). You can expect the typical bugs of any beta or early access.

DEMO



For all those who have been left out, don't worry, we are going to launch a demo on Steam this week as well, where you can get an idea of what the game offers and practice your best builds.




Very close to the END!



It's been a few months since the last update, I just wanted to announce that I am very close to the launch of the closed beta and the final game! I can't give you a concrete date yet because I don't want to get the timing wrong and then have to delay it.



What I can tell you is what is already done and what I'm focusing on right now:


  • All the progression of the game through each run is included. Every Warpath and every Background has its own experience level.


  • All the enemies and bosses of the game and their mechanics are already implemented. These mechanics will be polished in the beta with feedback from players.


  • Almost all the mechanics of the final game structure are implemented. It is still to be finalized what to do with some of them, like sanity.


  • Right now I'm focusing on finishing all the Warpaths and their mechanics, this is one of the most important parts of the game so I need to give it an extra layer of care.


  • Almost all the train wagons are implemented, I still need to polish some details and test it well.


  • Some exterior and interior sceneries are missing, which I'm going to leave for the end, I guess not all of them will be ready for the beta.




Everything is going well, I can't wait for you to try it!

As you already know, you can immerse yourself in this dark world with various identities, each representing a past in your life and a different way of playing, with different advantages and disadvantages. They are designed with the idea of offering very different gameplay and challenges:




ADVENTURER


There's no better reason to live than to feel the wind in your face as you cross at full speed over this harsh and rugged land in search of booty and glory. What more could you ask for?


FERVENT


Following in the footsteps of the creator has always been your only goal in life, you never needed to understand the Final Conclusion nor did you ever question your faith.


EXPLORER


You always wanted to know what's beyond, to go where no one else has been. To cross this dark land in your old train and reach the edge of the world.


SURVIVOR


You have never known what it is like to feel safe, your only goal is to get out of this full of madness cursed land.


EXECUTOR


When the madness broke out in your city you lost your whole family. Now, thirsty for rage, you have decided to undertake this suicidal expedition. There is only some consolation in the massacre.


THE COLLECTOR


Since you are a child you have seen how your family survived thanks to these incredible steel beasts, the only place where you could feel safe. You decided to dedicate your life to discovering all kinds of artifacts, weapons, tools or technology that would help improve this dangerous lifestyle on rails.


CULTIST


The day we began to understand the Final Conclusion of our creator a rampant madness took over everyone, you were one of the few who accepted and embraced it with all your soul, even though now you need more answers, and you will look for them where no one else dares.


HANDICAPPED


You were born with malformations that made things very difficult for you, your mental disability didn't help much, yet you always try to do your best.


STRANGE MAN


At birth you were blessed with strange mutations, your wealthy family banished you from their train and condemned you to an inhospitable life on the outside.
