The Nightmares Unleashed Update (Content Highlights)

Greetings, everyone!

Buckle up! Today, we’re telling you EVERYTHING you need to know about the Nightmares Unleashed Update—or at least most of it.

This first Major Free Content update will be released in early 2025, focusing primarily on replayability. Check out the Content Highlights below for a sneak peek of what’s coming, but beware of spoilers!

Improving the Keys system

Ever since Early Access, the Keys system in Ravenswatch has been a hot topic in the community. Hard to locate, not shared among the group… In this update, we tried to address most of the feedback reported by the players (and more!) by changing a few fundamental things.

Slymane, Game designer at Passtech Games, reveals the thoughts and processes behind those changes in our latest video. It’s also giving a peek in action at some of the new upcoming content!

As part of this redesign, Keys are now revealed on the mini-map by Vision Towers and by walking close by.

Alternate Master Nightmares Patterns

Master Nightmares are coming back stronger than ever in the Nightmares Unleashed Update. New boss patterns have been added to all three Master Nightmares. The goal was to create a surprise effect: each time you meet them, you will get a different combination of attacks.

More are to be discovered, and you must stay on your guard so you don’t get caught in the unleashing of the Master Nightmares!

New Mini-Bosses

Two new Mini-bosses join Reverie, to your great misfortune.

In Storm Island, you’ll get to confront Abu Al Jaan, the ancestor of all the Jinns. Careful on whom he may possess...

And in the sewers of Avalon, you’ll have to face Melion, the servant knight of King Arthur transformed into a Werewolf by his mischievous wife. Melion will be accompanied by his loyal pack, so be careful not to get bitten!

New Activities and Map Events

Our focus for this new Major Update was to expand your experience in all three Chapters available in Ravenswatch. We want each run to feel new and different, especially when travelling through Reverie.

We’ve made changes to existing activities, such as the Tumors, but we mostly added new events. Check them out:

Blood Rituals

If you’ve watched our video at the beginning of this news, you already know what this new activity is about! Blood rituals have taken place in Reverie, and a new enemy guards their precious reward. Break the ritual by defeating the Summoner Cultists, and get your hands on two Keys for your next adventures.

Locked Chests

Locked chests make their apparitions on the map, and will require a Key to open them. Inside? An item times two! What a way to facilitate your future Magical Object collections!

Sacrificial Idol

The Sacrificial Idol is exactly what it looks like. Sacrifice a part of your health points to gain more flat Damage (DMG). Sounds a bit like Curse of the Dead Gods, uh?

Astral Shrines

You’ve asked for more Stars of Fate? We deliver! This new mechanism will let you choose between 3 options:
  • Vision of Fate (gain Stars of Fate / Rerolls)
  • Vision of Renewal (relearn all of your Talents except starting one with chances of higher quality)
  • Vision of Enlightment (upgrade two different randomly chosen Talents)

The Refugees

Your path will no longer be shared only by humanoid pigs and strange creatures. Meet the Refugees, a small group of people asking for your help in the land of Reverie. Those misfortuned souls will prove to be a glimmer of hope in your journey, or a bad decision around the corner. Choose wisely when speaking to them!

With these new NPCs, we wanted to highlight the few last humans remaining in Reverie, and how they're trying to survive. They may become a great help if you choose to help them.

More, and off to 2025!

More things are coming with the Nightmares Unleashed Update! As usual, we’ll reveal it all in our future Devstreams and detailed patch notes, so stay tuned!

The Nightmares Unleashed Update is planned to launch in early 2025. We’re still polishing up some content and getting everything ready for a good and stable release.

For now, we’re off to a short winter break! The Passtech team wishes you a happy Holiday season with your loved ones. See you soon in 2025 for the beginning of a new Ravenswatch adventure with us! We cannot wait.

Community Corner

Are you going to add a textual chat?

We're looking into this possibility, yes. We'll have to see how we implement it from a technical point of view, as Ravenswatch can be played with a controller or a keyboard/mouse setup. Then, other questions need to be answered: moderation, reporting, and consoles. We know that voice chat is not the preferred method of communication between strangers, so we're interested in alternative means of doing so.

I want to play with other players, but I don't want to use matchmaking. Where can I go?

Our Discord server has proven to be a good place to meet new people and play with other Ravenswatch aficionados. You'll always find teammates over there, and voice channels are available to connect together as well as textual chats. Join the community on Discord!

That's it for today! As mentioned above, we'll see you next week for an extensive look at the Nightmares Unleashed Update.

An inseparable duo will join the Ravenswatch next year!

Greetings, Ravens!

Today, we have some great news for the community!

We're happy to announce that our first Hero DLC will include not one but TWO HEROES! You read that right. An inseparable duo will join the Ravenswatch next year. They’re also never one without the other and must be played together in co-op.

This mysterious duo will have synchronized abilities, unique playstyles, and fun synergies. We cannot wait to tell you more already, but you'll have to be a little more patient until then!

We'd love to hear your guesses in the comments below!

This first Hero DLC will be free on all platforms.

Post-launch Roadmap

We’ve officially updated our post-launch Roadmap; you can check it below. To always get up to date with the latest roadmap, consult our Steam store page!

Our first stop will be with the Nightmares Unleashed Update in early 2025. We’re cooking up some cool new features and content for this one. Stay tuned for our content reveal posts in a couple of weeks.

Next patch

We're currently working on our next PC and Console patch, which will resolve the crashes reported recently:
  • Crash occurring when using Beowulf's Fireball talent during the Epilogue fight
  • Crash occurring during the unloading of a run (when finishing a game)
The patch will also fix some connection issues and 4K resolution for Xbox Series.

Nominate Ravenswatch for the Outstanding Visual Style Steam Award!

Greetings, Ravens!

The Steam Awards are back again! Last year was a fantastic year for Ravenswatch: Between all the Early Access updates, the 1.0 release, and today's Console launches (as well as the crossplay feature!), we're beyond proud of the team and the community that has formed around our game.

That's why we would love for you to nominate Ravenswatch for the Outstanding Visual Style Award! Ravenswatch's art direction and visuals have always been praised by players and the press, and we believe we have our shot in this category this year!

So, THANK YOU for nominating us in this category (or any other category if you wish to do so). The team genuinely appreciates it 🙌

About art direction, a few words from Valentin André-Terramorsi, Passtech Games' Art Director:

“Almost four years ago, we set out to make a game that would build and improve upon the foundations that were our previous titles. The obvious challenges would be crafting a good multiplayer experience and growing the studio to tackle a bigger development scope than ever before. Artistically, we knew we wanted to keep our stylized approach to making good-looking games, and with the world of Reverie where tales and legends coexist, it just felt obvious to embrace an illustrative art style.

"Make a screenshot look like it could have been hand-drawn” was perhaps a bit ambitious as a goal, but it is the kind of compass you need to guide you through a game’s development. It always felt like we, 2D artists, were illustrating a book that 3D artists magically brought to life. As is often (if not always) the case, we didn't nail it on the first try; but I never doubted that we were on the right track, all thanks to the talented people I have the honor and privilege to lead at Passtech Games (AND the rest of the studio of course, but we’re here to talk about art, sorry guys).
It is a bumpy ride trying to achieve such a distinct look while continuously improving your home-made engine. Looking back, I can’t believe the amount of basic tools we had to build from scratch, and how many tricks and techniques we had to come up with so that one could immerse themselves in this aesthetic. It can be frustrating to think that most of those efforts end up being invisible to the players’ eyes. On the other hand, we’ve seen countless reviews praising how the game looks, so I can safely say it wasn’t all for nothing.

Also, the fact that you are reading this means that some of this background work is about to get the audience it deserves!

Allow me a cheesy analogy: Ravenswatch started from the idea that we could make a game starring heroes that would come together to face titanic challenges, each with their own personal strengths. I hope you understand where I’m going with this while browsing through the work of the Ravenswatch artists. I genuinely mean it.“

If you're curious about Ravenswatch's art, you can visit the Artstation blast we published last month.

We also shared a three-part series on YouTube about How to Make a Hero: a deep dive into the art and design of our iconic cast.

Ravenswatch is also 20% off as a part of the Steam Autumn Sale:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2071280/Ravenswatch/

Now we'll see you tomorrow for a surprise announcement that, we're sure, you're going to enjoy 👀

Ravenswatch Post-launch Roadmap and Behind-the-Scenes

Greetings, Ravens!

We’re two weeks into the launch of Ravenswatch 1.0 on Steam, and our teams at Passtech and Nacon would like to reiterate our gratitude for your reception of the game! Even after launching four titles in the past and almost twelve years of existence as a studio, it’s always an incredible journey and thrill to release a new game. To see your passion, love, and support for Ravenswatch is the best reward a team could have!

While some members of the team are working on the console versions of Ravenswatch (November 28th for PlayStation and Xbox, later on Nintendo Switch), the others are already building the future of the game!

We’re happy to give you some news for our post-launch plans and a glimpse at some behind-the-scenes of the production of Ravenswatch.

Post-launch Roadmap

This first year of post-launch support will be the occasion to bring more variety and replayabilty to Ravenswatch. Our focus will be on enriching the game's three Chapters, by adding new activities, map events, new enemies, challenges and exciting battles. Major updates will be free for everyone to enjoy.

Of course, another focus is on HEROES! Throughout the Early Access of Ravenswatch, but also the short time after version 1.0, you were able to share a lot of your ideas and suggestions about the cast of the Ravenswatch. Passtech Games is already working on the line-up of this first year (and even beyond…), and we have some crazy ideas coming up that we cannot wait to reveal to our community! Heroes DLCs will be paid content to support the game's development, but will be accompanied by minor free updates as well.

This roadmap is deliberately not detailed to leave us room for surprises, new ideas from the community, and time to work on the updates/DLCs. We'll share more about our plans in our future vlogs and dev diaries. We’re also taking good notes of your feedback, QoL requests, and suggestions to add along the way.

Behind-the-scenes

Passtech Games presents "How to Make a Hero", a three-part series on creating Ravenswatch and its iconic characters!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W5POgGyGuc

From character concepts to Heroes playable in-game, the team goes deep into our processes, giving exclusive details about the last hero to join the Ravenswatch to date - Carmilla - and sharing an intimate look at life in the Passtech studio.

We hope you enjoy these videos! Feel free to drop a comment to share your thoughts!

Art Blast
