Version 0.2.5 - Valentine Event

Hey! Minor content update containing Valentine Event just went live.

Changelog:
  • [FEATURE] Valentine Event

    • Event will last for one week after release of version 0.3
    • You can complete quest chain in Woodbury to receive decorative item, talk to Filt in Woodbury near blacksmith to start it
    • Find your Valentine!

      • Roses and Tulips spawn in the wilderness and can be used as gifts
      • Random wooable NPCs spawn in wilderness
      • After successful courtship NPCs can move to your house and stay there
      • Dating other NPCs will upset your current companion
      • NPCs are killable and will stay dead after being killed, we don't recommend taking them to dangerous locations

  • [BUG] Fixed bug that sometimes caused random NPCs to spawn naked

We wanted to give you something new to do while you are waiting for 0.3 update, which should arrive this month.

February Update

Hey! We wanted to let you know how the progress on version 0.3 is going. Initially we were aiming to release it in early February but unfortunately it will come a little later, current estimate is by the end of February. The delay is caused by increased scope of the patch, we decided to include more features, tweaks and quality of life improvements that we originally planned.

Bugfixes



One of the most important things for us are the bugfixes. We want to provide you with as stable and bugless experience as possible in Early Access. We can proudly say that the majority of already reported bugs will be fixed in 0.3 version.

Quality of life improvements



Another important thing are the quality of life improvements. The list of these improvements is quite big, so we won’t be listing all of them here. Several examples in 0.3 include backpack sorting button, quick stack button in containers and ability for crafting stations to use resources from nearby containers.

Announced features



Bugfixes and quality of life improvements aside, version 0.3 is first and foremost a content patch, so let’s get right into the new features.

We’ve already announced 6 new features but we would like to describe some of them in more detail. Previously announced features were:
  • Fire magic talent tree
  • Expanded Guidebook and achievements
  • Increased map size with new locations and quests
  • Stamina and Mana food recipes
  • Signpost system
  • Regenerating locations

Fire magic talent tree



Let's start with the Fire talent tree, here is how it will look:
  • Currently it contains 50 talents total, which is made up from 35 unique talents. An average talent tree in current version contains only about 13 unique talents. We want to set a new standard of talent tree quality with Fire magic.
  • It will contain 5 spells in total, 4 combat and 1 utility
    • Fireball
      • Duh! What kind of fantasy RPG doesn’t have fireballs?

    • Flames
      • Basically a flamethrower

    • Burning Rush
      • Increases your sprint speed, damage enemies on your path and leaves a trail of fire

    • Firelings
      • After you summon them they will fly around you and damage your enemies

    • Magic Fire
      • Utility, you will summon magic fire that will follow you and work as a torch, so you can use your second hand for casting spells or using weapons or shields instead of holding a torch

  • Fire magic will revolve around setting your enemies on fire and then spreading it

Expanded map



Another already announced feature we want to describe in more detail, is expanded world map. Let’s start with the size of the new map - because size really matters!

Here you can compare the map size in versions 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3:



As you can see, the map size in version 0.3 will be more than twice as big!
New map will add over 20 new handmade locations for you to explore.

Some of these locations will include new quests which will triple the amount of quests available in the game!

New features



Now let’s get into previously unannounced features for the upcoming update:
  • Farm location
    • In one of the new locations you will help a farmer with creating his farm. If you bring him seeds of different plants, then in return he will plant those seeds, allow you to harvest the crops and replant them after you’ve collected them.

  • Trading profession
    • You will level it up by buying and selling items from merchants. The higher the level, the better prices you will get.

  • Sleeping system
    • You will be able to sleep in bed. We will be also increasing day duration to 1 hour from 30 minutes. The goal is the let players conveniently skip the night and explore during the day.

  • Different armor types
    • Currently there is no difference between heavy armor, light armor and clothes - except for the armor value which makes heavy armor always better. New system will add an offset to equipping heavier armors, as they will increase mana cost for casting spells and stamina costs for performing attacks. However heavy armors won’t impact stamina cost on exploration skills like sprinting or jumping.

  • Stats tabs in Character window
    • You will finally be able to see your stats like stamina regeneration, movement speed or armor damage reduction.

  • Reworked building preview
    • Placing items was a little awkward sometimes but no longer!

  • Hide helmet option
    • Very requested feature which we are happy to deliver.

Version 0.2.3

Hey! We just released very minor bugfix update.

Changelog:

  • [BUG] Fixed bug that prevented location generator from working on several systems (big shout-out to DefenderOFaith, who helped us fix this bug)
  • [BUG] Fixed bug that sometimes paused the game after saving


Majority of other reported bugs are either already fixed or are being fixed, however we can't release those fixes before 0.3 update as most of them were fixed while developing new features and changes for 0.3 version and it's not feasible to include them as standalone bugfix update.

These two bugs fixed in this update were consider critical and they deserved seperate bugfix update, especially because one of them prevented several players from accessing huge part of the game.

2018 Update

Hey! We hope you had wonderful Christmas and New Year's Eve!

It’s been one month after first release of Realms of Magic. We would like to sum it up and also let you know what will be coming next, both in 2018 and years after it.

First of all, we would like to thank our community for amazing support we got from you. The warm reception we got from you exceeded our wildest expectations and it really motivates us to work even harder and make the game much better.

Special thanks to everyone who took their time to report bugs, offer suggestions, write reviews and answer other people questions. It’s extremely helpful so keep up the good work! Unfortunately, we can’t respond to every post, but we promise you that we are reading every single one of them.

What’s next?



We will release 0.2.2 after this weekend, it will contain several bugfixes and will also turn off holiday event, so it’s last the chance to grab festive decorations from Edbert the Merchant and holiday tree from Obos the Innkeeper.

We also already started work on 0.3 update. This update will be quite bigger than 0.2 update and it should arrive in early February. Here is the list of planned features, however please bear in mind that some of them can be postponed to later version if we won’t be able to make them in time.

Version 0.3 - Magic Update


  • As the update name suggests, we are finally adding magic to Realms of Magic, specifically - the Fire talent tree.
  • Improved and expanded Guidebook with many new tasks and integration with Steam Achievements. The goal of new Guidebook will be to guide players through all of the current content instead of being just an extended tutorial.
  • Increased map size with new dungeons and a new quest hub village. We are planning to increase World Map size in most major updates.
  • New food recipes. Current recipes are based on meat and provide you with Health Points buff. New recipes will provide Stamina Points buff (based on vegetables) and Mana Points buff (based on fruits and sweets).
  • Signpost system. Signposts will be placed in locations like villages and you will be able to craft them and place them yourself. They have two functions. The first one is that they will allow traveling to different locations when you are near them. The second is that when you will be traveling to location with an activated signpost, then you will appear near it, instead of the edge of the location.
  • Probably the most requested feature - locations will regenerate if not visited for a certain period of time. Every player made structures will still be there but all creatures and plants will respawn. We hear you!

Version 0.2.0 - Holiday Update



Hey! The very first content update to Realms of Magic is now live!

Features:

    • Holiday Event will last for two weeks
    • All NPCs in the game are wearing Winter Hats
    • You can turn in 5 Winter Hats to Edbert the Merchant for one of three decorative items
    • You can complete simple quest for Oswald the Innkeeper and he will reward you with Festive Tree

  • [FEATURE] Increased World Map size by 50%, scroll the map to see new locations
  • [FEATURE] 7 new dungeons (for simplicity, we refer to all handmade locations with hostile enemies as dungeons, including locations like bandit camps)

  • [FEATURE] Two new creatures: Kobolds and Imps
  • [FEATURE] Random NPCs now spawn in wilderness (does not apply to already visited locations)

We've worked hard for these past two weeks since the Early Access release to give you something new to do during holidays. Even though we've spent most of the time since launch on bugfixing, we are quite happy with amount of new features and content this update adds to the game, we hope you will like it too!

There probably won't be any patches next week (unless something critical happens) because most of us are taking a week off to spent holidays with our families. We will be back in 2018 with more bugfixes, polish and content!
