This release adds the ability to play as several other factions and improves point defense functionality, in addition to fixing lots of bugs.
As usual please report bugs and offer suggestions via the steam or anisoptera community forum!
* Allow playing as 6 factions previously reserved for the AI (destroy a large ship from each faction to unlock that faction).
* Allow launcher weapons (missiles, drones), directional weapons (blast pulser), and charging weapons (burst laser, plasma mortar) to be used as point defense. Discourage point defense weapons from all targeting the same incoming missile.
* Add more save slots to insure that # save slots > # playable factions
* Fix weapon binding screen glitch where buttons would not line up with ship, and improve intro animation
* Allow agent fleets to spawn child chips
* Generator blocks now explode dramatically when destroyed. All non-hull blocks have a chance to produce an explosion when destroyed
* Numerous stat and ship tweaks to newly playable factions
* fix bug where changing player colors would not recolor some nearby allied ships
* wide lasers now honor width when colliding
* AI will now preferentially select player ships when spawning new ships, and regenerating a new world via the wormhole will use player ships/stations when available

* fix save file corruption due to NaN position issue, eliminate several instances where player position would get set to NaN (resulting in sudden black screen).

December 16th patch notes
Hello! Micro patch here to fix a few critical issues ASAP.
* Fix not saving progress due to hitting steam cloud 1000 file limit. The game now compacts save sector files occasionally to avoid this.
* Fix super janky ship rotation, especially while firing missiles. Angular momentum is now properly conserved.

Hello! New builds uploaded. This is probably going to be the last week of bugfixes/optimizations - I'm working on a beta roadmap which will be up soon with lots of new features. Game should be noticeably faster.

Just uploaded a new build. Mostly bugfixes and optimizations:
* Support unicode input, fonts, and keybindings for non-english keyboards
* Save game asynchronously when activating stations for smoother experience
* Clamp aspect ratio of various menus to avoid clipping on 4:3 displays
* Tweak control response for snappier spaceship rotation
* Fix bug where decrypted but unused blocks would be encrypted during wormhole transition, and where save progress could be lost when entering wormhole
* Fix bug where certain controllers (e.g. Xbox One Controller) experience really bad input lag
* Fix scroll direction on OSX
* Enable compression when downloading agents (faster wormholes)
* Allow binding mouse buttons 4 and 5
* Reduce CPU usage due to AI pathfinding for drones
* Hotkeys are no longer caps-sensitive
* Fix occasional crash when clicking test button in editor
* Fix spelling in menus
* Fix packaging issue where music is recompressed every update resulting in large update sizes - apparently the ogg vorbis encoder is nondeterministic. This update will be ~100MB but future updates should be only ~4M (unless we add more music).

I hope everyone is enjoying the Beta release! Just uploaded a new build fixing several common issues and adding a new block type. Changes:
* Fix crash while loading "More Spaceships" experienced by some players (during zip file decompression)
* Add unicode text rendering support - steam usernames with emoji or non-ascii characters should display correctly
* resource (R) packets are now easier to collect, even when under fire. Optimized resource related code.
* add vsync off/on/adaptive option to options menu
* add weapon descriptions to upgrade screen, show missiles/torpedoes/etc on launcher block in upgrade screen
* added rapid-fire rocket launcher block
