[v1.03] Speedrunning update, Side quest fixes, and more

PATCH NOTES

[v1.03]

This is a smallish to moderate patch that fixes a number of the most requested bugs, and adds some new options to the settings.ini specifically for speedrunners. I fixed the door skip, it wasn't as rare as I thought, and people were discovering it accidentally too often, so I had to fix it. But I also added an in-game timer and an option to skip text scrolling in the settings.ini file. Additionally, more bug fixes. Full patch notes below.

NOTE: Hoping to have steam achievements ready for the next patch by the end of next week.

  • Fix crash from buying a gold key from the shop in snowpeak area
  • Fix miles infinitely spawning reward after sand worm boss (this was a typo... '-_-)
  • Fix door skips (collision skip, and the bullet skip)
  • Add fast text and show timer options to settings.ini (more on this below)
  • Fix dog not following you between rooms
  • Final boss now has 50% more health (offset by the fact you can now bring a follower to ease the challenge a bit if you're having trouble)
  • Stop NPCs from attacking bosses if they are talking to the player
  • Fix playtime not stopping while on the title screen/main menu
  • Fix ship sometimes not appearing in the landing site room after completing the game
  • Warp points now reset after starting new game plus
  • Other minor fixes

For Speedrunners

Since the new options are only for speedrunners and aren't intended to be used for casual playthroughs of the game, these new options are only available to change in the settings.ini, and not in the in-game options menu.

To access the settings.ini file, press the windows key + R to bring up the "Run" window. In the box that pops up, copy and paste "%localappdata%" without the quote marks and hit OK. This will open an explorer window with your local app data files. In this folder, there should be a folder called "REDSHOT", as long as you have started the game at least once. In here are your save files and the settings.ini.

Inside the settings.ini file, there will be section called "Speedrunning". In here are your two options: Fast text to skip the letter-by-letter scrolling during dialogue, reducing the required button mashing, and Show Timer, which will show the in-game timer in the top right hand corner of the screen during gameplay. Change the 0 before the decimal point to a 1 to turn the option on. Change it back to a 0 to turn the option off again. And don't forget to save the file!

I may add these to the in-game options menu at a later point, but for now, this should be fine.

[v1.02] Load Game Crash hotfix

[v1.02]

This is a very small hotfix that fixes a crash when loading the game for some players that was introduced in the last patch. Sorry about that guys, I didn't get the crash when I was testing so I didn't realize it was there. I think I fixed the issue but I've reverted the changes I made to the load game screen just in case.

If you continue to have any issues with this, please let me know!! Thank you.

[v1.01] New Game Plus, and some minor bug fixes

PATCH NOTES

[v1.01]

This is a moderate update that primarily adds New Game Plus mode to the game, and fixes some other minor issues as well. Full patch notes below.

NOTE: Still no achievements. Sorry. Hoping to have that in the next patch and then going to try adding keyboard rebinding. Thanks for your patience!

New Game Plus Mode

To access NG+, just interact with the computer on the left hand side of the ending screen room. Entering new game plus will let you keep all your items and upgrades and increase the difficulty by the equivalent of one notch, extending even past extreme mode, letting you access even higher difficulties (You can still change the difficulty setting in NG+ between the 3 base settings).

It will keep getting more and more difficult infinitely, so I am not responsible for any pain or anguish this may cause you or your loved ones.

  • Add Infinite New Game Plus Mode
  • Remove interact being mapped to jump button on keyboard controls (now it is mapped to E, it's own button)
  • Set default brightness back to 0, for best color accuracy
  • Decrease Mario's burping rate
  • Adjust ammo counts in inventory to look nicer and be more aligned
  • Adjust recovery mode (now the threshold for using stamina abilities after entering recovery mode is lower on the normal difficulty, but it also now scales higher with higher difficulty settings.)
  • Fix emeralds getting automatically picked up when hitting the ground
  • Updated keyboard control icons
  • Add goal text when scoring in bounceball
  • Update master volume description text and fix it going off screen on steam deck
  • Fix some typos
  • Other minor fixes and improvements

[v1.0] REDSHOT Release Day Update

PATCH NOTES

[v1.0]

Release day. Woohoo! Here's another large patch that fixes a few of the most requested bugs and more, plus some new story content.

NOTE: Steam achievements are still not enabled. I still have to figure out the sdk situation and test them all to make sure they are working. Apologies about this, I love achievements as much as anybody, there were just bigger fish to fry before release. Expect achievements in a patch sometime soon.

  • Fix Left slopes being somehow accidentally set to persistent, leading them to not get destroyed when transitioning rooms, making them show up in weird spots they shouldn't be
  • Fix elevator collision issues, introduced in last patch
  • Adjust room transition code to avoid falling and missing trigger, then taking damage when you fall out of bounds (if still happens to you please let me know)
  • Fix AI teleporting to ground if the NPC's horizontal speed causes them to miss a ghost platform collision
  • Remove command menu/quick switch hold delay if command menu is not double mapped to another action
  • Update gunslinger music
  • Give whip boss slight HP boost
  • Fix crash with new Emma dialogue in mountain area

  • Add melee level stat to inventory screen

  • Fix possible map crash in depths (could not reproduce this bug, but I fixed what I assume was causing it)
  • Fix text offset scaling for ending rank room
  • Add unique dialogue to some NPCs in the ending rank room
  • Add final miles quest to kill the plant boss
  • Update Miles' weapon offset so when carrying a gun it doesn't come out of his head (LMFAO btw, hilarious bug)
  • Fix rare crash if you get hit by an angel blast wave the same frame that it spawns
  • Fix tower background not stopping when ship crashes during intro cutscene
  • Update final boss phase 1 music mixdown

  • Fix arrows damaging you when grounded, letting you pick enemy arrows back up

  • Other minor fixes and improvements

[v0.99.5] Control & Input hotfixes and other bug fixes

PATCH NOTES

[v0.99.5]

A moderate patch that fixes a number of bugs and issues, most of them relating to controls or input. Full notes below.

  • Fix stamina regeneration and prevent loss when in quick switch menu
  • Fix message boxes closing too fast if you pick up an important item while holding the jump button on 'Portable' control preset
  • Remove steam deck subtitle from title screen on deck
  • Fix sometimes not triggering room transition when sliding between rooms and falling outside of bounds
  • Fix vsync description going off screen on steam deck and 16:10 screens
  • Fix d-pad not working in the options menu for switching control type (this is still buggy, it will not let you switch to gamepad or wrap the variable for some reason I do not understand at all. It is only this option too. I think it may have something to do with the autoswitching when you input a key on one or the other but I don't know wtf is going on so I'm moving on because i'm not gonna spend hours figuring this dumb thing out when you can just use the analog stick instead)
  • Add horizontal speed transfer to player when standing on a helicopter
  • Stop player being able to move after dying
  • Make it less likely flying grenadiers drop a grenade inside a floor or wall
  • Make debug features harder to access
  • Set pro controls back to default, alt controls are now called the 'Portable' Preset
  • Improve changing presets so the controls are easier to understand
  • Lower priority of interaction with interactable objects instead of jumping on the 'Simple' control scheme or when interact is mapped to the same button as jumping
  • Fix shop message immediately closing on button release on the 'Pro' control scheme (now default) by changing universal interact button key condition to released
  • Update tutorial signs
  • Other minor fixes and improvements

[v0.99.4] Stability Hotfix Patch

PATCH NOTES

[v0.99.4]

This is another moderate hotfix patch that fixes a number of bugs that have cropped up due to the numerous last minute changes I made before the game's release. Hoping this one
is finally stable, I've crossed off almost everything from the to-do list so I'm going to play through the game a few times myself now to make sure I didn't miss anything (which I definitely did, I'm sure).

  • Fix ending of intro attack event not being set to essential letting you move around, possibly leading to more dropped inputs
  • Improve mouse controls in inventory
