Controller Updates - Fixed a bug that caused players to be unable to chop trees, interact with creatures, mailbox, shipping bin, and trough. This bug happens right after the player starts to till the ground but does not complete it, then switch tools. - Added a way to view Item Names in a crafting recipe while crafting.
Others The game now detects when a save file is corrupted/missing, and shows an error instead of crashing.
Glad to be able to fix that first controller bug - with the help of your reports as usual! 🙏 I'll be starting on the next content update soon :) - Miki
Hotfix v0.7.4
- Fixed a crash when going to sleep that affected some players (error obj_animal_controller).
Thank you for the report! - Miki
Hotfix v0.7.3
Hotfix v0.7.3 fixes several bugs that were recently reported:
Fixes - Fixed a crash when patting creatures/leaving farm, which affected some players who had released creatures outside the farm. - Fixed a rare crash that happens when placing fences. - Fixed Pumouse Research progression for some players (could not complete observation). - Fixed: While fishing next to a pen, the same inputs (Interact key) no longer lead to simultaneous inputs. When facing a river with the rod equipped, fishing is prioritised. - Fixed freeze when trying to gift Alfie, Ming, or Yan Yan a gift over the counter while they are shopkeeping.
Changes - Added range information in item description for Sprinklers and Sun Lamps.
----------
Outstanding bugs/issues and workarounds There are some bugs that are known but not fixed yet, the important ones being: - [Controller Support] Cannot interact with mailbox/shipping bin, creatures, and trough sometimes. I have received reports and details from 2 players so far, and am still trying to replicate this bug on my side. Saving and loading the game should resolve this bug in the meantime. - [Screen Resolution] Players with resolutions above 1920x1080 have reported issues (such as missing Main Menu buttons, incorrect scaling of the game). One of our players found a workaround to be playing on windowed mode instead of fullscreen mode. I'll be getting hardware (monitor with larger resolution) later in 2024 to better test and fix this issue.
Full details of the above known bugs, workarounds, and developer response can be found in this post.

Thank you for your patience! Hope that you're having a good start to 2024 :)
- Miki
Hotfix v0.7.2
- Fixed a crash that happens when using Light Yellow Spine or Fishbone Tail in the Origin Tracker.
Thank you for the report! -Miki
Hotfix v0.7.1
A couple of hotfixes for bugs in the new update! Thank you all for your reports and patience. - Fixed duplicate quest for 'Beginnings of a Bestiary II'. - Fixed a crash that happens when releasing a creature that is assigned to a pen.

📖 Mini-Devlog #14
[✨Update v0.7 is in development, planning to release in end Dec~✨]
Greetings Researchers!
In the past 2 weeks, I've started working on the actual creatures and cave content for this upcoming v0.7 update! Here are some of the highlights:
Added 16 new researchables
Added 4 creatures, 4 plants, and 8 fish for players to discover! There will be 84 researchables in total after this update goes live.
Each of the plants and creatures were added while considering the current state of the game. I was guided by these questions:
What creature perks would help with some of the bottlenecks of the game? A useful creature will also mean that players can strategise and set new goals.
Similarly, what crops will be useful and give players more options in progressing the game?
As for fish, I just wanted more variety at this stage, so I added 2 new fish for each cave biome. There's also 2 new bait: Meaty Bait and Nutty Bait.
Researchable Highlights
Weedip
One of the creatures added is Weedip, a little critter that grew accustomed to the weedy areas of caves.
Bulbous beginnings
Of the 4 new crops, 3 of them are 'bulb-crops'. They are: Rawbulb, Grubulb, and Bassbulb. You might guess from their names - but they'll be an option for players to grow their own Meat, Insect, and Fish ingredients!
New Floor Types for the Mines
I've also added new floor types for the Mines to add more variety to the mining experience. The weedy area (only found in the Cave Biome) is one example. Weedips only spawn in these floors!
Improved UI for Recording Stations
With the new researchables, I further worked on our Recording Stations UI - to increase clarity about how many books there are in each shelf (tracker on top right), and also to make it look a bit prettier.
New feature: Equipment
As I added more books for players to complete in the Archive, I also had to consider the rewards players can get from the books! I wanted to go beyond the current reward types (craftables/useful items, decor, and statues) and add other meaningful rewards. That's why I added Equipment! These equipment come with minor buffs.
📝 What's Next
Working on this update has taken longer than I initially planned, due to some of the more complex and time-consuming content. I still wish to update this month as promised, but the update will be smaller in scope, with the remaining content moved to Jan/Feb 2024:
This will give me more time to work out the details, playtest, and not rush the development for the upcoming content! Thank you all for your understanding and continued support <3

Patch v0.6.3
Hello everyone~ This is a small patch to add two things to help with bug reports, especially for the harder-to-replicate ones.
- Added a debug screen. Press F1 to toggle debug screen for more game information. - Added a game log, which records some logs for the latest play session. The files "Player.log" and "Player-prev.log" can be found in the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\ResearchStory\, and sent to us when reporting bugs. This helps me replicate the bugs, as I can better follow the sequence of actions players did before the bug happens!
The information I added to the debug screen and log is quite minimal at this time, and based on the known/recurring bugs. I'll continue to build a more robust system as required.
Thank you so much again for all your help and support! Miki
Hotfix v0.6.2
Hello, just fixing a couple of crashes: - Fixed crash when picking up and placing a Cooking Stove. - Fixed possible crash when scrolling down after buying a limited item from a store.
Thank you for the reports! :) Miki
📖 Mini-Devlog #13
[✨Update v0.7 is in development, planning to release close to the end of 2023~✨]
Greetings Researchers!
I’ve started working on the v0.7 update, and just completed the Winter Festival! This Festival comes with its own decorations, NPC dialogue, and a minigame called Snowball Frenzy.
In Snowball Frenzy, players get to play a “snowball fight” with a twist! Collect snowballs as ammo, and throw them at targets (or your opponent) to score points. There are 3 different modes: - Trial (no opponent, players get to practice) - Casual (1-v-1 with no stakes) - Competition (1-v-1 to win a prize!)
Snowball Frenzy is quite different from our usual mini games, as players will be interacting with the world itself instead of via a UI! I also had to make a simple AI for opponent NPCs. Those came with their own set of challenges during implementation. It took close to two weeks to make and have it feel good. I think it worked out quite well in the end! ☃️❄️❄️ A small detail I'm happy about is how the other townsfolk has little cheer emotes while the minigame is in progress.
Featuring some of the decor sold at the festival:
This is our 4th festival (one festival per season), and I plan to move on to the other parts of the game before adding any new festival content. You can see them as the “OG” festivals, hehe.
What’s next 📝
- New researchables, caves and creature content! They all tie into each other and I’ll give another update once we have made some progress on them.
Hello to new players~👋
Recently, we joined the Cozy Quest Festival on Steam and one of our community members shared about RS on Reddit (thank you again!) - bringing in an influx of new players! Thank you all for giving our game a chance, whether you just found out about us or were here since the beginning. I really appreciate this community for all your support and everything you do and have to say :)
But really, your kind words about the game give me life LOL.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time with us. We’ll continue to do our best and develop Research Story with all our hearts!
