a while ago i said that i wanted to rework this game at some point in the future.
I will start working on this shortly after the Release of the new game (link at the bottom of this post)
The goal of the rework is:
- to remove and replace all jumping-Puzzles in the game
- improving performance
- improving overall quality
- adjusting the difficulty curve
- removal of the "glowing floortile puzzles"
The plan is to keep the overall layout close to the original, especially for puzzles that will stay, while replacing the removed stuff with new content and changing some puzzles for a smoother difficulty curve.
The Rework will be based on the technical foundation of the new game, but it will stay close to the look of the current game.
The current game will exist as a seperate download OR will be delivered together with the reworked version - i have not yet decided on that, but it wont be "deleted". (so, if you are into jumping puzzles, you can still play them :P)
Your input on this is appreciated, feel free to use the Forums or the comments below this post for your suggestion/opinion.
I will post updates on this as things progress.
==========
Now to the new game, which is meant as a sequel to this game.
- There are 0 jumping puzzles in it
- up to 2x performance in comparison to this game (But system requirements still apply))
- new features, new content, new stuff (it has been recreated from scratch)
So, if you are one of the people who liked the laser-puzzles but hated the jumping stuff, feel free to give it a try.
If it turns out that you dont like it, you can refund it within 2 weeks of purchase or less than 2 hours of playtime within that two weeks without any issue. (There is no risk, you dont like it -> get money back, you like it -> play/keep it)
There will also be a change to the Bundles tomorrow, but that will get a seperate announcement.
EDIT: Before there is confusion:
The Rework will be a FREE Update for this game.
Creator Homepage
Hello,
today i have something that is not a bugfix.
Valve created a "Hub" that is known as "Creator Homepage", which puts all Games related to a certain creator/publisher in one place.
Features (i have noticed so far, still in Beta.):
- All games in one place
- All sales listed
- upcoming games are listed too
- You can "Follow" to get notified about things like sales, new releases etc.
- Forum that is not specific to a single game
- Social Media integration
==========
Link: https://store.steampowered.com/publisher/yaekogames
(also accessible from the store page, just click on the name on the right side)
I think that this is a good thing since it allows people to not "miss" something new.
In the past i had multiple people coming up to me, and telling me: "I didnt even knew there were 2 new games, why didnt you tell me?" (despite the fact that there were announcements on steam about it etc.)
Unlike social media, this page is integrated into steam and does not need a seperate account to use. (or for me, 20 different social media accounts... and you still cant reach the people that dont have social media -.-)
It is currently in Beta and things probably will change/get enhanced, but you can give it a try if you are interested.
[Weeklong Deal] 70% off
Hello,
this game will be on Sale until the 14th for 2.99 $/€ including VAT.
This also means that the "Fill your collection" Bundle dropped in price by a large margin. (This Bundle is intended for People who own at least one of the newer ReThink games and want to get the older ones too.)
Thats pretty much everything i have to say at the moment, but if you should have questions or issues do not hesitate to contact me or create a topic on the forums.
Have a nice day.
PS: If you are one of the People who liked this game, maybe take a look at the newest game that features tons of improvements and additions in comparison to the original ReThink:

[Sale] ReThink | Evolved 2, 33% off
Hello,
Hello,
ReThink | Evolved will be 33% off for the next two weeks.
PS: Yes, this is the same announcement as for Rethink | Evolved, since a lot of people only own one of them i have to write one announcement for each game.
ReThink | Evolved 2
Hello,
there are a few things i would like to talk about today, one of them being a sucessor to this game.
Contents
- Link to the new game (for all the People who dont want to read my "bla bla".)
- Changes and additions to the new game (in comparison to ReThink | Evolved)
- Personal Message
Besides that, you feel free to follow on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/YaekoGames
The following changes are in comparison to "ReThink | Evolved", and include all the improvements made from "ReThink" to "Rethink | Evolved".
Things that got removed
- The "Floor Tiles"
They were a "leftover" from the 1st game that only appeared a few times in the 2nd game.
- The "Orange/Blue Cubes"
Mainly used to pull around the floating platforms, which were experimental.
Since the Platforms are now controlled by lasers, there is no need for these cubes anymore.
- The "music" puzzles
Was an experiment, removed.
Things that got changed
- The "Light Bridges"
They were meant to replace the Cubes from the 1st game, and are now part of the room itself. (you cant place them anymore, they technically work like a door that can be enabled/disabled.)
- The "Floating Platforms"
These Platforms are now controlled by "Anchors" that can be activated/deactivated with lasers.
This properly connects them with the core gameplay-mechanic of these games, the lasers.
- Movement
The initial acceleration of the Player is now gradually, not instant.
This allows for a better control of movement over very short distances (a few centimeters)
New Stuff:
- Reflections
Lasers are now reflected from specific surfaces
- Two new Cubes
Both interact with the lasers, one of them can be seen in the Trailer, the other is experimental.
This makes a total of 8 cubes.
- Additions to controls
There are now two seperate mouse-speeds which allow you to switch between them for mor precise alignment/aiming. (Both can be adjusted freely)
Cubes can now be rotated in place, without picking them up again.
- It is possible to move around freely (again - was possible in the 1st game, but not in the 2nd.)
You can walk back and forth between puzzles as you desire. (This allowed for a more intricate architecture with "puzzles inside puzzles" etc.)
- Jump pads do affect Cubes now
Pretty self explaining: Throw cube on jump-pad, cube flies away like you would do when you step on the jump-pad. (There are no jumping puzzles! These pads are used to get the Player to a higher position without having to use elevators and/or stairs all the time.)
- Up to twenty "targets" per room (technically more is possible, but for now this will do - need feedback on this)
Targets do now have different symbols, which allows for more of them.
- New Visuals
Almost every single Asset the game is made of has been changed, including the cubes, walls, floor, background-city etc.
There are also a lot of new Objects, Effects and Textures/Materials that replaced existing ones.
- Sound changes
This is still work in progess, but i want to replace a lot of the sounds in addition to the new ones that are needed.
- Narrative
Currently working on it, my goal is to have at least 10 times as much as the older games have, combined.
This is something i will say a few words about further below.
Personal Message:
The following text is a personal message, not marketing-blabla.
I know that a lot of Players did not like the "Jumping Puzzles" in this game, and they were already not a part of the 2nd game anymore, just as they are not a part of the newest game either.
If you are one of these players, but you still liked the laser-puzzles, i recommend you to give the 3rd game a try.
If you dont like it, you can refund it as long as you have played less than two hours.
Best case: you enjoy it
worst case: you get your money back
================
I also know that a lot of People that got the game from the "Humble Jingle Bundle 2017" had technical issues with the game.
These issues (as far as i can tell from bug-reports and reviews) almost all came from the fact that the system-requirements were not met at all.
The Game does run below system requirements, but only if you are not too far below.
Some people tried to run the game with less than 16 FPS (frames per second), but that also is the point where the game starts to behave "weird" and/or stops working properly at all.
If you would have bought the game on Steam, i would tell you to get a refund from Steam, but i can't do this for the folks that got the game from HumbleBundle.
I never expected that someone really would try to play with framerates this low, but i also cant fix it either, since the issue is not in the game.
Sorry for that.
================
Some of you probably wont believe me, and thats fine, but i have put a lot of time and effort into each of these games.
My Goal is that every new game is better than the ones before it, and to achieve that i read through all of the Feedback and talk to People directly.
There are obviously limitations to "how much" a single person can do at a time.
I even would replace the jumpingpuzzles in this game with laserpuzzles, but at the moment i cant afford to do this, but i might do this in the future.
Besides that, of course the older ReThink's will continue to be supported over the next years.
================
TL:DR:
I try my best to deliver Games that are worthwile for their respective target audience, given the limitations that i have/had to overcome.
The Player/Customer always comes before the money, which also is why i am not using DLCs at all. (or any of the other money-grabbing things that are currently trending with indie-games)
I read through all the Feedback, i watch people play, because i care, and this wont change in the future.
Thank you.
[Update 15] Small fixes
Hello,
There was an issue that made it possible to load the wrong map from a savegame. (Happened while saving)
This is fixed now, but it will not change existing savegames.
I also changed the Jumping a bit (a while ago).
A wall in "21" has been moved.
That is all for now, thanks.
[Update 14] VSync
Hello,
You can now enable/disable VSync in the settings. (Default: OFF)
I also changed the text for the Colorblind-Tags to make it more clear what they are meant for. (since it seemed to be unclear, judging from stuff i have read.)
ReThink | Evolved will get VSync later today, together with a bunch of minor bugfixes that i already forgot about.
Thats all for now, thank you.
[Update 13] Minor Fix // [Weeklong Deal] ReThink | Evolved
Since yesterday ReThink | Evolved (which was a big leap forward) is on Sale for 7.99$
http://store.steampowered.com/app/703500/
Surprisingly the Humble revealed ReThink at the same day the 2nd game went on sale, this was not planned. (But since this year only has 3 weeks left, the sale would fall into that timeframe anyway.)
Humble Jingle Bundle
If you came from the Jingle Bundle and have not yet looked at the announcement from earlier, it would be a good idea to do so:
