As it’s been a while since we last posted here, we thought that it was time for us to get back into the swing of things and share some of the latest Retro Machina news!
As there are quite a few new people following us, we’re going to start up from the basics - introducing the game and then share some new videos that will help you understand how the game works.
So without further ado, let’s get into it!
What is Retro Machina?
Retro Machina puts you in a world inspired by the Retro Futuristic views from the mid to late 20th century.
In our game world, humanity has been long extinct and the world was decimated by a mysterious force. Of all the settlements and cities that once existed, only one remains intact, the city of Endeavor. Protected by a glass dome and inhabited solely by robots, the city has been maintained in this way for hundreds of years with cold efficiency. Everything has to be perfect, and should a robot develop a defect, it is instantly removed from the city and left to breakdown in the wilderness.
This is where the main character comes in. A single robot worker developed a defect and was removed from the city. However, unlike all the other robots that met the same fate, this one refused to go down in this way and set out on a quest to fix himself.
This is where you will meet it, just as it sets out on its quest for repairs, to find other intelligent life, and to unravel the mysteries of this world.
The Game
Now that you have a brief story let us introduce you to the game!
The core of the game revolves around two features - puzzle solving and controlling hostile robots.
Here is an example of the two main features used together!

The first time that you take control of a robot type you will be shown a quick description of the robot, introducing you to the lore of the game.

But beware, controlling a robot comes with a hazard as well. If the robot gets destroyed while you are controlling it, you will take damage as well. If you’re too damaged, you may even die!

And finally, we’ve got a special clip for you. As we said earlier on, Retro Machina has been heavily influenced by the views of people from the mid 20th century, and their views of what the future would be like (hence it’s called Retro Futurism).
As the game is hand-drawn, we were able to show this influence into the game through our art style. This also let us go one step further by creating posters that really exemplify the Retro Futuristic views and styles.
