RFVR Major Update!

We are proud to announce the first major update to the RFVR Early Access!

First a huge thank you to all of our users and supporters for helping us make RFVR a great game, we <3 you.

This update is the culmination of over 3 months of development progress and brings with it a slew of new experiences to RFVR. The users asked us for updates to NPCs and NPC interactions and and that's exactly what Update#1 delivers. We estimate to be about 25% complete with the early access development at this time and are on target for an end of year 2023 finish of Early Access and into the Full Release. If you've played the game then you know just how massive it is already and for how much there is available to do it's hard to imagine we're only 25% of the way there. This update just about brings quadrant 1 of the map to a close for now, the next update will focus on the next quadrant and we have some really awesome things in store.

Check out the overview of this update here

Here's what you can expect to see in Update #1

Mercenaries and Adventure Parties:

You can now hire a variety of mercenaries to join along in your adventures, as well as team up different with adventure parties spread across the world. Join and interact with over 15 new and unique NPC adventurers which all have their own personalities and special abilities. Adventurers and Mercenaries come in a variety of ranged or melee attack styles and bring a whole new dimension to exploration.

NPC Townsfolk:

New dialog and quests have been added throughout the first quadrant of the map. Help the local townsfolk complete various tasks for unique and sometimes hefty rewards. NPC's will have you traveling to areas of the map you didn't even know existed. Additionally, new daily lifecycle behaviors have been added to all Townsfolk.

Improved Town Guards:

The guards were missing a lot of their attacks and frankly not very effective. We've given them that much needed attention and now you can expect those town guards to be able to fight well during town attacks, especially if you take the time to upgrade them.

Growing, Breeding, and Smoking Herbs:

Now you can be just like your favorite fantasy wizard with this revolutionary new mechanic in RFVR. 8 special varieties of herbs have been added throughout the map and can be grown within special herb boxes. Herb plants can be cross pollinated up to three times, enhancing their potency and effects. Herbs are then consumed with a wizard pipe and offer temporary bonus's to strength, insight, and resistances.

New Tutorial:

More detailed and thorough tutorial is now provided to new players in the great hall starting area and the tutorial is able to be toggled on or off at any level.

Boat Upgrade:

Tired of getting stuck in the middle of the shallow sea after your boat hit a small wave and exploded? We've made the boat a lot more durable and forgiving. If you do still happen to break the boat, a boat hull and enough materials to build a new boat will spawn in it's place.

Purchasable Homes:

You can now purchase and own 4 different homes in RFVR. Each home comes with a variety of useful tools, a save location, and an additional long term storage chest! Hoarders be aware! Many more purchasable homes are on the way!

Wood Crafting:

Now available for crafting Wooden Wizard Pipes, Boat Hulls, and Herb Boxes

Leather Crafting:

New item 'Food Pouch' can be crafted and increases food item storage.

Advanced Armor Smithing:

A new tier of armor smithing has been added. Trust us, you're going to need the bonus to resistances you get from this vendor in the very near future.

Shoulder Holster Text:

Previously, It could be a bit difficult to grab shoulder holstered weapons. Now, you are prompted with text when your hand overlaps a holstered weapon, or when a weapon overlaps a holster.

Continued Profession Quests

New Farming and Smithing quest tiers have been added.

New Enemies

Added a few new enemy species.

Various Bug Fixes, enhancements, and optimizations:

Fixed issues with Torch lighting, Ore Satchel and other storage pouch item persistence, Cooked food bowl item persistence, and too many more to list here. Thanking our players and our Discord users again here for all the feedback they provide, we probably wouldn't find some of these bugs without your help. Lighting improvements and performance optimizations.

Stayed tuned for the next major update, we're already getting started and we can't wait to share the progress. Join our Discord to get access to the beta as soon as its live and chat with us, share you thoughts, suggestions, and help us keep improving on RFVR.

Peace,
OMFGames

Bug fix

Fixed an issue preventing the player from walking down the steps to complete the Ratman boss quest.

August Update is Live

Greetings!

We have just launched our August update on the main branch and there's so much new content. I'll highlight some of them here quickly.

Arena Mode - A brand new multiplayer level has been added to RFVR. The level consists of a central castle and a surrounding forest littered with enemies. Players can spawn waves of different enemies within the castle. Keep in mind this is a sandbox level, no progress is stored or saved in arena mode currently.

Lost and Found - Items that fall through the landscape are teleported to the Lost and Found located in the great hall starting area

Leather Crafting - A new station has been added to a few towns on the island where players can craft 2 new storage items, the Ore Satchel, and the Builder Bag. More leather crafted items coming soon

Shoulder Holsters - Each shoulder can now be equipped with a melee weapon for quick access. These weapons save and persist with your character.

Multiplayer Level Parity - The multiplayer level is now fully up to date with the single player level and multiplayer game performance is greatly improved for both client and server.

New Blood Effects - Added blood spatter from slicing and blunt force attacks, as well as arterial bleeding from stabs and penetrating attacks.

Full Body Updates - We've updated the VR body to be better aligned with the player, and greatly improved the experience while playing with the body visible

You can check out all the updates in the video below.

Our focus for the next month or two will now be on making the next major update. The scope of this next update is going to be centered around NPCs, their behavior, and their interactions. The updates we've got planned are mostly based on suggestions from all of you. We also plan to continue the main quest line and quests for each profession, We'll also be adding new enemies, relics, and more difficult challenges in the second quadrant of the island. There will be content for both new and experienced players alike.

Be sure to reach out to us if you have any issues. We also would love to hear any suggestions or feedback you have. Join our discord https://discord.gg/EZfGVh9SKb for the most up to date information any time and we look forward to bringing you more exciting content to RFVR.

Early Access Content Update #2

Here's a look at what's new in the update
Leather Crafting: There is now a station in the merchant square of the first two towns to perform leather crafting. Currently you can only craft the Ore Satchel as the other crafting items are still in development/testing. Different animal hide allows certain items to be crafted
Ore Satchel: This item will hold up to 8 ores within it, just touch a held ore to the bag and it will be stored inside, press trigger to remove all stored items. If the satchel is empty you can hold trigger and touch any crystal ore to store it inside the bag as well.
Lost and Found: We've added a lost and found to the great hall, as well as a way to get back to the great hall from the adventure association buildings. Any items that fall through the map should return to the lost and found.
Save Game: Moved the location of the save game so you no longer have to go upstairs and fight with the small space to move around in the attic.
AI behavior updates: Nothing too major but enemy AI will now alert other nearby enemies if they detect a player. We've also made some adjustments to the detection to make it harder to sneak around
Visual Enhancements: More tweaking of the world colors, materials, and grading of the scene to improve the visuals
Performance Optimizations: Increased performance on all tested video cards.

Notable Fixes/changes
Spell Crafting exploit fixed
Enemies getting blocked from movement by ragdoll bodies fixed
Hammer Level 3 grip physics issues resolved
Mana and HP crystal Relics must be held in hand to activate for now
Werewolf was given a ranged attack
2 New enemy species added the map
2 New Relic Rooms

Many more improvements to RFVR are in progress and the way, stay tuned and join our discord for the most up to date information. Thanks for playing RFVR!

Controller binding fixes and visual updates

-Reverb G2 and HP motion controller update-
The reverb G2 bindings have been updated, tested, and verified good on a few machines, please reach out to us on discord or steam if you have any persisting issues.
-Walk/run speed has been reduced a bit-
Let us know what you think about the new movement speed. Additionally, a bug that was allowing double run speed on certain controllers has been patched.
-Visual improvements, color grading, and de-saturation-
You may notice the worlds colors are a bit deeper, darker, and less saturated. We're still experimenting with this so the feedback is very welcome here, let us know how we did on the color tones. All landscapes as well as most foliage have been modified in this iteration (hence the 3GB update) and a global post-process effect is now being used for the players camera which adds another bit of color grading to the scene.
-Visual improvements, Material Roughness-
Many world materials have been updated with less 'roughness' which can improve the realism and make some surfaces more reflective.

There are a lot more updates and improvements coming soon but since this change is somewhat hefty and modified so many files, we wanted to push this as sort of it's own update.

As always, we would love to hear your feedback and suggestions!

Virtual Desktop Movement Fix (and more)

First, thank you all for your support and feedback on the early access launch day.

Most importantly with this update, we have pushed a fix for the locomotion issues with virtual desktop!

Additional updates:
-Added hotkey (F3 key) for toggling footstep sounds on/off
-Gave 3 enemies a ranged attack (Insectmen, Boss Rats and Frogmen)
-Several small fixes for the enemy Knockouts

As always we are available on discord, youtube, twitter, or in the steam discussions, and we are open to your feedback and suggestions.

-Omfgdude

Hot fix for smithing

Issuing a quick fix for weapon smithing. We'll be updating the early access content on a regular cadence, probably about once per month unless there are critical fixes needed like this one.

RFVR Early Access Live Stream with SurjicalGaming

Surj will be livestreaming the RFVR early access gameplay straight to the steam store page on Monday and perhaps throughout the next week. Join at any time to engage in the chat and join our discord for up to date news and information.

IMPORTANT:
There is a known issue with locomotion using virtual desktop on the quest 2 and we are trying our best to get this resolved. If you encounter this issue, we recommend using Airlink or Link on the Quest 2 while the issue is being worked.
