Rings of Saturn

0.347.7 - Constitution Class

  • After fixing your ship, dealer trade-in price will update immediately.
  • Fixed a bug that caused your ship to change name if you saw it destroyed in upgrade or tuning simulation.
  • Ringstorms will not jump between your ship and cargo you are carrying anymore.
  • Added a dialogue option that was missing from Obonto dialogue tree if you didn’t respond to the initial hail.
  • Tug drones will not try to stop heavy rocks that are hardly moving.
  • Newly bought massdrivers and nanodrone systems now come with a starter ammunition pack, so you can see them working even if you don’t have a respective storage compartment.
  • When launching a new dive, the target selection screen will not suggest purchasing full 100kg resupply of ammunition, drones or propellant if you used just a bit.
  • Upgrade simulation for drone systems is now zoomed out so you can see what the drones are doing at a longer distance.
  • Fixed a bug that caused settings menu tabs to be not translated.

New ore density charts released

The Astrogeological Society of Enceladus released an annual update of the ore density charts this week. It includes survey data on newly discovered dense vanadium and iron veins, as well as depleted tungsten and beryllium sites. Update is free for all premium subscribers of AstroGeoWorld.

Dealerships required to permit access to ships

Following a number of reports on faulty ships being sold on second-hand markets, dealerships are now required to grant physical access to a ship for any prospective buyer before finalizing the transaction. While sellers are not required to offer a test flight to a prospective buyer, physical inspections must be permitted upon request.

Mass driver ammunition quality control

Conlido announced new standards in their quality control policies this week. Previous complaints about fragile projectiles damaged by launch have been addressed. With a vanadium-hardened tip and a hollow collapsable iron core in their refined design, and more consistent manufacturing tolerances, Conlido has offered a guarantee that their projectiles will deliver more consistent results.

Salvage interface upgrades available

The AR-1500 Manipulator has new software updates available. Given the nature of salvage in the rings, these manipulators have been updated to recognize and successfully interface with microcrafts such as the Heavily Armored Lifepod. Craft jury-rigged for salvage can now recover survival craft without necessitating an immediate return to clear their cargo bay.

Maintenance Records

  • Fine-tuned AI of frigates so they didn’t try the same tricks that work on smaller ships.
  • AR-1500 Manipulator can will now return to rest position when powered off.
  • AR-1500 Manipulator will now catch lifepods and drones.
  • Ore density rebalance. You will now find more variance between ore types and all the ores will have some profitability.
  • If your ship is stranded and the recovery crew picks you up, you will now receive a message explaining what is happening.
  • Fixed a number of glitches on older graphics cards related to VRAM compression algorithms.
  • Lowered video ram requirements.
  • Enhanced the dealer screen. You can now view the promotional video separate from the ship description and you have an ability to examine the actual ship you are buying.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the stone jet particle effect to be not visible.
  • Some of the asteroids ignored first impact, making them much tougher than they should be.

0.342.4 - Bound in Darkness

This is a bugfix release. List of changes:

  • VRAM optimizations lower the video ram requirements from 1.8GB down to 900MB. This solves performance and stability problems on cards that have 2GB of video ram or less, such as bad framerate and game freezes on NVidia GTX 7xx cards.
  • Changed the visuals of background ring rocks, making them darker and easier distinguishable from the background.
  • Improved physics accuracy to eliminate ore rocks phasing through ship hulls sometimes.
  • You now have a wider range of tuning for EIAA1337 autopilot settings.
  • Obonto stations can now dock - with some trouble - Cothon-212.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a totally damaged part to be listed with the price of brand new one in upgrades.
  • Option to replace a part in the repairs menu will now give you a discount for sale of your old, damaged part.
  • Fixed a bug that caused repairs not to be immediately reflected in the upgrade menu.
  • You can now click on the ship name in the dealer menu to bring up a preview.
  • Removed broken Eagle Prospector configurations that listed it with high-stress hardpoint. If you own such a ship the harpoint will be still listed, but you can safely ignore it, as it doesn’t do a thing.
  • Buying and selling a ship won’t cause it to appear in the dealer twice anymore.
  • Fixed spawning bug that could cause ore to intersect hull when you bumped into medium-sized asteroid.

0.337.23 - The Name of the Void

This is a customary hotfix:

  • Hitting a enemy excavator with mass-driver bullet is now a hostile act.
  • Railgun projectiles will not ricochet so often now.
  • Cargo containers and claim beacons won't hit against your hull during a cutscene anymore.
  • Fixed a bug in ship names that caused your initial ship name to change sometimes. As a side effect, you might experience it changing name after this upgrade. Your other ships should not be affected.
  • Ship names are now persistent across the games.
  • Fixed a bug that caused mass-driver hit animation to play at edge of screen even if bullet was long gone.
  • Point Defense Microwave Generator won't hit your own excavators anymore.

Conlido Fleet Rotation

Conlido RVM is finally upgrading it’s transport fleet from the outdated Cothon-212 models to the new Cothon-441, increasing earthbound cargo bandwidth by over 300%. Refurbished Cothon-212 cargo haulers have begun to show up on the second-hand market.

Docking Maintenance Complete

Scheduled docking ring maintenance was completed today. Maintenance records show multiple cases of broken docking arms and upgraded docking firmware. Enceladus Corp denies any connection between the maintenance and accidents reported, claiming the correlation to be purely coincidental.

Unauthorized HUD refits

Unauthorized HUD refits have voided the manufacturer’s and third-party warranties on several ships. The refit of the Heavily Armored Lifepod 9000’s internal HUD to the computer systems of a K37 was demonstrated by a popular RingTube influencer this week. ENN cannot endorse this dangerous refit except in case of an emergency, and cautions all pilots that the lifepod systems are not designed to be refitted to larger craft.

Maintenance Records

  • New fully playable ship: Conlido RVM Cothon-212.
  • New HUD: The HAL lifepod dashboard.
  • Fixes to tutorial: I made conditions for the tutorial to proceed to be more consistent if you don’t play along with Enceladus’ requests.
  • Fixed a bug that caused encounters with multiple ships to have a chance for objects to spawn on top of each-other, locking them up and dealing heavy damage.
  • You can now politely refuse being hired as a wingman.
  • Docking arm at Enceladus will exert less torque now and not shake your ship violently.
  • When installing smaller storage compartments or propellant tanks, ammunition, propellant or drones that exceed the capacity are now lost once you launch for the rings.
  • Fixed a number of typos.
  • Improved performance of ship dealer screen.
  • Fixed a bug that made an extra save slot gained from installing free “Tales from the Rings” DLC unreachable.
  • Changed “optimize transit costs” to “allow target drift” on the dive target select screen, which has a similar effect but is much easier to understand.
  • Added gimbal information to Z-Axial Pinch drives.

0.333.4 - Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock

This is a hotfix release, fixing following bugs:
  • Massdriver bullets fired at point-blank range tended to survive the impacts much more often than they should be.
  • Fixed a number of typos in transactions.
  • Enabled mip-mapping for background ring debris, so they don’t twinkle so much when you are zoomed out and they are just specks of dust.

0.333.1 - Wings of Freedom

New Resupply Policy

Due to shortage of supplies caused by recent accidents in the docking ring, as of today Enceladus Corp enforces new resupply policy. Propellant, mass driver ammunition and drone parts will no-longer be distributed free. Independent mining contractors are advised to conserve resources during their excavation missions.

Mining Guild Announcement

Following paid announcement was issued by Independent Mining Guild and has no affiliation with Enceladus News Network.

Maintenance Records

  • You now have to pay for re-supplying your ship - with propellant, mass-driver ammunition and drones. You can choose how much you take with each flight, and ones you don’t use up carry over to the next mission.
  • Drifting mass driver bullets can now be targeted by autopilot and picked up.
  • Enhanced the demo. It now contains Enceladus prime, all the upgrades, all the ships and all the stories. It can even save the game. One thing you can’t do in a demo is loading the game - you need to upgrade to full version to load your saves.
  • Fixed a number of typos.
  • Improved mining companion mining AI behaviour, which was overzealous with thrust.
  • Cargo baffles are more gentle now, allowing in ores with lower density with ease.
  • New builds of Eagle Prospectors are available as used ships at Dealer and can be encountered in the rings.

0.330.8 - Afterimages

This is a hotfix, patching up a bug that caused some one-time encounters to stick around in saves after they should be gone.

0.330.7 - Search and Rescue

[previewyoutube="AKBbGLMQxeU;full"]

Recovery Licences

As the number of independent salvage operators increase, licenced Search and Rescue teams are pushing a bill to require licence to purchase recovery equipment. Independent operators argue that shortage of recovery teams leads to artificially inflated prices and competition will drive prices to more reasonable levels. Enceladus Corp has not issued any statements in this dispute.

Docking ring accidents

Investigation of reports of faulty docking arms in Enceladus Docking Ring revealed several incidents where docking arms failed, releasing the ship into drift without crew onboard. Station-wide maintenance will be performed next week. Until then it’s advised to not leave your ship unattended.

Artificial News Anchor

Due to legal concerns raised we are required to announce that all Enceladus News Network avatars, including the Daily Artificial News Anchor, are digital constructs created by Artificial Intelligence, and as such constitute works of fiction. Any resemblance to real humans, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Maintenance Records

  • Dialogue can now expose coordinates that you can astrogate to.
  • Expanded dialogue system to be more flexible.
  • Multiple new interactions with Search & Rescue teams, including new quest options, insurance and getting directions.
  • Enceladus docking arm will now prevent ships from drifting away when capitan is busy doing business.
  • Changed alignment shifts in Obonto station dialogue trees, so they won’t be as hostile to you if you opt to pay for the damages caused.
  • Increased rings' event density in the storyteller module, making the rings a more interesting place to visit, with events happening more often.
  • Added disclaimer that fictitious characters presented in the game are in fact fiction and not real people abducted from the distant future.
  • Improved crew animation when launching into rings.
  • Separate precision and zoom sliders on the dive selection screen.
  • Obonto stations will now transfer minerals 400% faster, making big trades much quicker.
  • Dealer will present a bigger image of your ship if you are playing in higher resolution.
