3 New Maps and New Weapons Join The CTB

https://www.tripwireinteractive.com/#/community/3-new-maps-and-new-weapons-join-the-ctb-now

We are excited to announce that an early iteration of the 1.3 update has come to our Community Test Branch. Servers will be up all weekend, starting from Wednesday, February 20th at 9 PM EST (-5 GMT). We hope to see you all there!

https://steamcommunity.com/games/418460/events/1763626975546063686

Here’s an overview of what you can expect from the CTB this weekend.

New Maps

Apache Snow

Players of RO2 may recognise VNTE-Apache Snow as a remix of the classic map Winterwald. We return to the Asau region for a PAVN vs ARVN battle over this strategic valley.

Demilitarized Zone

VNTE-DemilitarizedZone is a reimagining of RO2 map Mamayev. Expect intense action on this artillery-blasted landscape on the boundary between North and South Vietnam.

Saigon

Community Map VNTE-Saigon joins the official rotation for the first time. Set during the Fall of Saigon, players can expect intense street combat and instantly recognisable objectives, such as the above US Embassy.

New Weapons

MAS-49

The MAS-49 becomes the first rifle to feature rifle grenades in RS2. This French weapon saw significant service during the First Indochina War replacing older, bolt action rifles. Please note, this weapon should be considered a ‘work in progress’ and has known animation issues when the animations are viewed in third person.

With a ten round box magazine, the MAS-49 had the built in capability of firing rifle grenades and comes equipped with an APX Scope for early-war NLF marksmen. The MAS-49 and variants will be a NLF weapon.

Molotov Cocktail

Known as the poor-man’s grenade, the Molotov Cocktail is an improvised incendiary device made from a bottle containing petrol or alcohol. During the CTB this projectile will be available to NLF Guerrillas, but this is not going to be the final role to receive this weapon. The current fire PFX are a work in progress, so your feedback, as always, is essential!

Vietnam official forums

Expect to see one more weapon coming in 1.3, as well: The RP-46!

Role Changes and Balance Tweaks

In response to analytics and new content coming online, we have made a number of tweaks to the roles available to players on both teams! In regular, non-campaign play, the roles are now as follows (items added are in bold, items removed are in strikethrough):

In campaign matches, the roles are now (This CTB will not feature campaign testing):

EARLY WAR

MID WAR

LATE WAR

Other New Gameplay Features In 1.3

  • The leaning system has been overhauled and improved. Players are now able to do a variety of actions while leaning, including the ability to lean while walking
  • Aiming helicopter weapons is now significantly easier as we have decoupled their movement from helicopters - this can be toggled through a checkbox in the Aircraft/ Vehicle subsection of the Gameplay menu
  • Players can now customize their characters’ individual classes! This includes a button to apply a class’ customization across all classes, if you want to quickly customize all roles at once

Notable Bugfixes (Full list coming in finalized patch notes)

  • Fixed an issue where attempting to place the DSHK whilst moving when crouched could cause the game to crash
  • Fixed an issue where the campaign ‘Play Online Quickmatch’ would lead to empty servers
  • Fixed an issue where some players were experiencing missing localization text on the main menu causing the UI to be unusable
  • Fixed an issue where in the Campaign players could team stack during the map switch by selecting one team in the lobby and then change team once the map had loaded
  • Fixed an issue where players would experience stuttering after sprinting from a prone reload
  • Fixed an issue where helicopters which crashed due to taking damage gave team kill penalties to the pilot rather than kill credits to the shooter
  • Fixed an issue where the M1919 RPM fire rate was out of sync with the audio
  • Fixed an issue where the Australian and ARVN ‘US Pattern M1’ helmets were a different texture to the US version
  • Fixed an issue where players who had selected an ammo type would not see this selection persisting after death
  • Fixed an issue where the profanity sensor was not applied to Squad names
  • Fixed an issue where player locations were incorrect on the overhead map when playing at 4k resolution

KNOWN ISSUES

There are a number of known issues with this build which are being worked on for update 1.3. For now, please bear with us as we develop this content, and remember that any content shown should be considered a work in progress.

  • The MAS-49 has issues with its third person animations - if you see another player using the MAS-49, please expect issues. The audio for the weapon is also in-progress. There may also be oddness with the weapon in general - please let us know if you encounter any issues!
  • There is a house on the outskirts of Saigon which has no collision - this should not affect core gameplay, and has already been fixed in-house.
  • Apache Snow, one of the new maps included in this wave of the CTB, only has static HMGs rather than the placeable DShKs included on other maps - this will be remedied for future waves
  • When a player moves close to a tall wall or object, or another player, their movement will be slowed to a walk.

As always this CTB contains a variety of bugfixes and updates, all of which will be detailed in the future changelog for the full release of 1.3. We are hugely grateful for any and all feedback from this test through the RS2: Vietnam Forum. We hope to see you tonight on the CTB!

Community Test Branch Build Delayed

Hello everyone,

Due to unexpected difficulties, we have found that we need to delay the Community Test Branch 1.3 build until next week. This will allow us to get the CTB build into a more testable experience and allow for better feedback. Stay tuned for an announcement early to mid next week for the CTB changelog and new test dates.

Plan Of Attack: Community Test Branch Weekend

https://www.tripwireinteractive.com/#/community/rising-storm-2-plan-of-attack-community-test-branch-weekend

Hello everyone,

We are gearing up to bring an early build of the upcoming 1.3 Update to the Community Test Branch this weekend! We will be hosting servers Saturday, February 16th for players to hop in and give us feedback on several of the 1.3 additions and changes including:

  • 3 New Maps (All set to NLF for this CTB only - to help test the new weapons)

    • Apache Snow
    • DMZ
    • Saigon

  • MAS-49 with 3 variants for the NLF

    • NLF Guerilla - MAS-49
    • NLF Sapper (For this CTB) - MAS-49 with Grenade Launcher
    • NLF Marksman - MAS-49 with APX scope

  • Molotov Cocktail

    • WIP fire effects/spreading

  • Improved Leaning System

    • Players will now be able to walk and lean

  • Weapon rotation de-couples from vehicles (helicopters)
  • Class based Character Customization

During a campaign, the PAVN will also see the MAS-49 (not including the Grenade Launcher) in the early to mid war periods. This CTB won’t have all of the planned additions and changes we are working on for the final 1.3 Update but we wanted to get player feedback on these systems as soon as we could! Players may experience some minor visual issues during play as not all systems have been finalized (such as the MAS-49 3rd-person anims), but the gameplay should be fully functional.

For more details on the MAS-49 and the new maps read on!

Entering active service for the French forces in the mid stages of the First Indochina War, the MAS-49 started making its way into the country in numbers by the late stages of the war, replacing older bolt action rifles and standardizing the infantry rifle for the French forces.

Featuring a 10 round box magazine, the MAS-49 had an in-built capability to fire a rifle grenade as well as being equipped with an APX scope. The rifle was well known for its reliability in poor conditions and worse maintenance.

Apache Snow will return players to the A Sau valley and is a re-imagining of the classic RO2 map Winterwald.

DMZ is a reimagining of the classic RO2 map Mamayev, providing intense action across a landscape blasted by artillery and air attacks. It is set just north of Hue and on the official boundary between North and South Vietnam created at the end of the First Indochina War.

Saigon is a community map joining the official lineup set around the US Embassy. Taking place during the fall of the city at the tail end of the war, this map has been enhanced with more routes and verticality, art, and performance.

And don’t forget to keep an eye out for the new leg injury animations. We are planning for a second CTB build and test in the coming weeks with the remainder of the additions and changes, so stay tuned. We look forward to your participation and feedback this weekend!

Shake And Bake Is Back For A Triple XP Weekend!

Hotfix 1.2.5 Is Now Live

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam - 1.2.5 Hotfix Patch Notes

Role Kicking Abuse Fix

  • Fixed a variety of issues with the Role Kicking system which allowed users to abuse the Role Kick function. Newly added functionality will prevent these exploits and griefing using the system. We’ll continue to deliver further improvements to the Role Kick feature with update 1.3.

Main Menu XP Displaying Incorrectly

  • Fixed an issue where XP was displaying incorrectly on the main menu screen, which was introduced in the 1.2.4 update. The original fix was for players that had accidentally been ranked to level 99. To be clear, players were in fact still leveling as normal, but the amount of XP being shown was inaccurate - this is now resolved. Thank you to everyone who reported this issue.
  • The level you are seeing now is the correct level and players should continue to earn XP normally. The level previously displayed before 1.2.4 was inaccurate. Apologies for the confusion.

Team Change Cooldown Update

  • To assist custom mappers in testing their maps, and server operators in dealing with player toxicity, we have removed the 60-second cooldown for changing teams when playing offline, or when logged in as a Server Administrator.

As always, thank you for your continued support! We are continuing to work hard on Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, and would not be able to provide fixes like these without your feedback.

Plan Of Attack - Covering New Battlefields

Hello everyone!

With the release of the 1.2.4 Update, the Rising Storm teams at Antimatter Games and Tripwire Interactive are continuing to focus in on the next major release: Update 1.3.

Before the break, we talked about some new weapons making their way into the game including the MAS-49 (several variants, one of which has rifle grenades), the Molotov Cocktail, as well as the community map Saigon joining the official rotation. Today we wanted to share more details on Saigon as well as some other new maps heading your way.

Saigon takes the fight to the last days of the war, with the ARVN trying to hold up the PAVN’s final offensive and some of its major targets, the US embassy and Presidential Palace, that were previously targeted during the Tet offensive.

As part of the process of joining the official rotation, Saigon has been receiving some major enhancements including: map flow refinement (including: reworking the entire Church area, improved attack lines, and giving more access to vertical spaces such as rooftops), additional art, and performance optimization.

Just north of the city of Hue lay the official Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Vietnam, established following the First Indochina War. Following the length of the Ben Hai river from its headwaters to the South China Sea, this natural water barrier enhanced with landmines by both sides found less importance in the war’s unconventional nature.

DMZ is a reimagining of the classic RO2 map Mamayev, providing intense action across a landscape blasted by artillery and air attacks.

Returning to the A Sau valley, players will find the last map in this update, Apache Snow. Operation Apache Snow ran from 10 May - 7 June 1969, including the fighting over the infamous Hill 937, in an attempt to maintain pressure on PAVN units in the area. This upcoming map will feature the ARVN forces fighting to clear PAVN off another hill in the A Sau valley and is a re-imagining of the classic RO2 map Winterwald! It isn’t quite ready for a reveal just yet, so stay tuned in the coming weeks as we continue to talk more about the upcoming additions and changes for Update 1.3!

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Update 1.2.4 Changelog

Addressing Community Feedback, Requests and Exploits

We hope everyone had as much of a blast as we at AMG and TW did playing the Green Army Men Christmas event! Over the last few weeks there has been an increase in issues related to players exploiting the vote kick system, player toxicity, and general abuse of in-game systems. All of which make for a less than delightful atmosphere and playing experience.

We are addressing these toxicity issues with the following changes:

  • Players’ ability to initiate vote kicks has been restricted to 3 vote kicks every 24 hours
  • Players are restricted to changing teams once per minute to prevent players from switching teams, initiating a vote kick, and then switching back (this also applies to spectators)
  • When a vote prompt appears (to kick a player) there is additional information related to the reason for the kick, including the number of unforgiven team kills, number of minutes idling, or the number of kills attained by a player accused of cheating.

Example shown below:

  • Spectators can no longer use any voice chat channels

WebAdmin

Better logging has been added to Webadmin to give server admins more useful information.

  • Added a log to record admin logins
  • Added a log to record any settings that have been changed by an admin on the server
  • Added a log to record players who have initiated a vote kick or role kick along with the selected kick reason
  • Added a log to record players who have had a vote initiated against them

Players Boosted to Level 99

Just before the Christmas event kicked off some players were affected by a server that boosted them to level 99. If you were affected by this server, you can stay at level 99 or you can choose to roll your level back to a level of your choosing. This rollback tool will only be available for a limited time.

The tool to roll back your level is found in the STATS menu.

Whitelisting of Community Content

  • We have whitelisted the current versions of GOM by SgtJoe and the Green Army Men Mod. Servers running this content will be ranked.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the IZH-58 would sometimes spawn without ammunition, or appear to fire, but fail to do damage. Thank you to the community for reporting and providing information on this issue!

Conclusion of the Green Army Men Christmas Event

A huge thank you to everyone who played in the Green Army Men Mod’s Christmas event, and to the incredibly talented Green Army Men Mod team who made such an amazing map! The game is returning to its normal state, with experience gain back to its normal rate, and the Christmas content removed from the base game download.

All achievements, gear unlocks (including your Christmas Helmet), and XP will be retained post-Event, along with all the bugfixes made to the base game and SDK since the launch of the Event.

If you are craving more miniaturised army action, the Green Army Men Mod is available through the Steam Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1620524040 & https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1623442084 This page also has a good amount of content in addition to the Green Army Christmas map that servers have been running. We look forward to seeing you on the battlefield!

As always, thank you for your continued support! We are continuing to work hard on Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, and would not be able to provide fixes like these without your feedback.
