With the launch of RUNE II: Decapitation Edition quickly approaching, you may be wondering which version to purchase -- Standard, Berserker, or God Slayer? Which should you choose from those tantalizing options? Never fear! We at Studio 369 are here to break down the different packs for you. No matter what option you end up going with, you are sure to have a rip roaring Viking time.
Standard Edition:
As we mentioned in our "Out of the Ashes" post last week, the base game of RUNE II: Decapitation Edition that includes the following:
Overhauled storyline and narrative
250+ new quests/side quests
Revamped combat system
All new skill tree with 29 skills
Dungeons, dungeons, dungeons!
Villages and horde mode
Three new unique boss fights
Much more!
Berserker Edition:
Includes Standard Edition and the following:
Berserker Armor: Don the Berserker armor and show your enemies you’re not afraid to wear their skulls as decoration.
Berserker Hammer: Wield the Grand Berserker Hammer and bring the fury of Ragnarok down upon your foes. This wood and gold hammer, crafted from the rarest materials, is intended only for the strongest warriors of Midgard...the Berserker Hammer’s raw power is enough to get the job done, and then some.
Warrior Pack Armor Set: The Berserker pack is also the only way to obtain the Warrior’s Blade and Warrior Armor set. A dull blade is a warrior’s worst enemy, and the Warrior’s Blade is always sharp. Crafted from mythical dwarven metals, the Warrior Armor is capable of divine protection and is said to have been anointed by the gods themselves.
Game Soundtrack: Enjoy a 21 track digital download of Dean Valentine’s epic orchestral score for RUNE II!
Digital World Map: Experience the RUNE II world map the way it was meant to be: in all its 3840x2160 4K glory. Give your desktop background an upgrade, or print out a copy and keep it handy as you explore the realm of Midgard on your adventure through RUNE II’s epic campaign.
God Slayer Edition:
Includes everything in the Berserker Edition and the following items:
God Slayer Armor Set: Wear the Head and Chest Piece adorned by only the fiercest of Midgard’s warriors. Rumored to be of divine origin and imbued with runic properties, this legendary armor set will aid you in your fight to take down Loki and save Midgard!
Sigurd’s Axe: A mighty viking needs a powerful axe, and none were more powerful than Sigurd. Previously used by one of Midgard’s greatest warriors, this legendary axe is ready to help you in your epic adventure. Are you strong enough to wield it?
Ship of the Valkyrie and Ship of the God Slayer: Rafts are useful for sailing the seas of Jotunheim, but they pale in comparison to a Viking Longship. Make a statement with the Ship of the Valkyrie, a mythical longship capable of withstanding the greatest seas in all the realms.
You will be able to upgrade your RUNE II standard edition at any time from a lower tier edition.
We will see you in Midgard on November 13th when RUNE II: Decapitation Edition launches! Still have questions about the different packs? Ask us in our Steam forums in our Ask Us Anything thread.
RUNE II: Decapitation Edition's God-Themed, Aesir Skill System
Skills are a core part of the RUNE II: Decapitation Edition experience. In addition to your weapon's intrinsic move set, you'll have the ability to unlock, upgrade, and master a suite of 29 powerful and versatile God-themed skills.
There are currently three types of skills that players can learn and use: Core Skills, Specialized Skills and Ultimate Skills.
Core Skills can be unlocked and upgraded no matter your God affiliation - or lack thereof (in the case of the Path of the Heathen.)
Specialized Skills can be unlocked no matter your God affiliation, but cannot be upgraded beyond a certain point without the player aligning themselves with the specific God (or path) that offers that skill.
Ultimate Skills cannot be unlocked or upgraded unless you are aligned to the God or path that offers that skill.
Each skill functions in one of four ways: Inherent, Active, Blessing or Bloodlust.
An Inherent is always active and there is no need to equip it.
Once an ctive Skill is learned, it must be equipped in your Skills Bar, and must also be activated by the Player in real time to be utilized.
A Blessing, must be equipped in your Skills Bar for its passive affect to take effect.
A Bloodlust Skill, once learned, must be equipped in your Skills Bar. When you land enough hits on an enemy and enter Bloodlust, these skills add additional effects.
There are currently 29 skills to choose from. Multiple skills and blessings can be equipped to your skills bar simultaneously, offering a multitude of possible Skill combinations and character build opportunities!
INHERENT SKILLS
Health – Your character’s vitality. When this hits 0, you succumb to your wounds.
Stamina – Your character’s available physical energy. Stamina is consumed when you perform certain exertive actions, such as dodging and heavy attacking. When your stamina dips below 15%, you become exhausted and your actions are less effective.
Bloodlust – Landing blows on enemies fills your heart with bloodlust! When your bloodlust meter is full you become Bloodlusted and your attack speed increases for a short duration. Bloodlust is a temporary enhanced condition, onto which several other Skills can be added.
CORE SKILLS
Core Skills function at the lower end of character specialty and are among the most frequently used. They cover basic special actions like using less endurance, stunning, healing, and granting increased critical chance
Core Active Skills
Invigorate – Heal like a god! Increase health regeneration for a short duration.
Sonic Blast – Shriek like a banshee! Scream in rage, staggering and damaging enemies within a cone of effect emanating from your character.
Core Blessings
Endurance – Possess the vigor of a god. Stamina consumption is reduced.
Core Bloodlust Skills
Berserk – Add precision to your rage. While Bloodlusted, gain a chance to land critical hits.
THOR SKILLS
[previewyoutube="4S-dodc84tM;full"]
Disciples of Thor can output very high area-of-effect damage. His emphasis on lightning-based crowd control related combat skills is not for the uncertain, as conversely pledging to Thor offers no survivability skills.
Thor Active Skills
Smite (Specialized) – Pound the ground with the might of Mjolnir! Leap forward, smashing the ground at your destination, dealing damage on impact and staggering all nearby enemies.
Ball Lightning (Specialized) – Launch a concentrated storm sphere at your foes! Fires a charged ball of lightning that continuously damages all nearby enemies.
Hammer Throw (Specialized) – Manifest and hurl a storm hammer at enemies. Throws an elemental hammer imbued with lightning. Impacted enemies will be stunned and take damage.
Summon Boar (Specialized) – Combat a chore? Summon a boar! The boar the merrier! Call the mythical boar Gullinbursti to aid you in battle.
Thor Blessings
Charged Weapon (Specialized) – Channel Thor’s might. Enhance all attacks with lightning damage.
Thor Bloodlust Skills
Chain Lightning (Ultimate) – Be like Thor himself and harness the power of lightning. While bloodlusted, attacks deal extra electrical damage and have a chance to chain lightning to the nearest enemy
HEL SKILLS
[previewyoutube="SsiNH49NNeY;full"]
Hel’s empowers her assassins to strike first, strike hard, steal the very lifeforce from their enemies, then vanish into the shadows – or if no shadows are available – get the Hel out of there in a hurry.
Hel Active Skills
Hel’s Call (Specialized) – Your enemies hear the whisper of death. Stun nearby enemies and reduce their attack speed for a short period of time.
Quick End (Specialized) – Move and strike like death herself. Gain bonus movement speed. Your attacks cannot be blocked, dodged, or parried for a short time.
Frost Shards (Ultimate) – Summon barbs of ice from the ground to perforate your foes. Ice spikes erupt from the earth, knocking down and heavily damaging all enemies
Hel Blessings
Vampiric Attack (Specialized) – Imbibe your enemies lifeforce with every attack. All hits grant a lifesteal heal for the player.
Death Dealer (Specialized) – Hel’s frigid aura surrounds you. Deal low, continuous damage to all nearby enemies.
Hel Bloodlust Skills
Raise Dead (Specialized) – Necromancy becomes you. While Bloodlusted, summon a draugr from Helm’s realm to fight by your side.
ODIN SKILLS
[previewyoutube="y9CCng36xsE;full"]
The Allfather blesses all those who fight by his side, thus warriors who pledge allegiance to Odin are gifted with the ability to pass his blessings on to others, supporting and buffing teammates and allies alike.
Odin Active Skills
Radiant Soul (Specialized) – May Odin’s breath revive you and those who follow you. Heals yourself and all nearby allies.
Summon Wolf (Specialized)– The howl of the wolf summons an ally. Call one of Odin’s wolves to aid you in combat for a short time.
Spear Throw (Specialized) – Your targets well get the point of these fire javelins. Throw a holy spear at your target, dealing damage and setting them on fire.
Raven Call (Ultimate) – Great Odin’s Raven! A swarm of ravens swirls around you, damaging enemies and healing allies.
Odin Blessings
Odin’s Blessing (Specialized) – Odin offers you his protection. Grants additional defense to all nearby allies for a short period of time.
Odin Bloodlust Skills
Odin’s Favor (Specialized) – It’s good to have friends in high places. While Bloodlusted, all nearby ally units are granted increased attack damage.
HEATHEN SKILLS
[previewyoutube="S6drMYukJaE;full"]
The way of the Heathen is to reject the gods and their offerings, and to walk the path of a mortal who serves no master. The Skills of the Heathen are focused almost entirely on endurance and survivability, and with good reason: things can get rocky when you have no god in your corner.
Heathen Active Skills
Denounce The Gods (Ultimate) – Tanks but no thanks, gods! Fully heals you and increases your max HP for a short period of time.
Reinforcements (Specialized) – Allies follow, waiting in the shadows for your word. Summon a mercenary to aid you in combat.
Heathen Blessings
Stoneskin (Specialized) – Your flesh hardens. You have a chance to deflect light attacks automatically, provided you are not attacking.
Strength of Conviction (Specialized) – Mind over matter. Grants passive resistance to all elemental damage.
Heathen Bloodlust Skills
Focused Rage (Specialized) – During blood lust, life regeneration also boosts damage resistance. While Bloodlusted all heal functions grant extra defense
Frenzy (Specialized) – Gain the sturdiness of a Jotunn. While Bloodlusted, you cannot be staggered or knocked down.
While you can refund your spent skill points at any time, aligning yourself to a god is a permanent choice. Mixing and matching active skills, bloodlust skills, and blessings within RUNE II is encouraged.
Will you be a Thor player with high damage output but low survivability? Or will you pledge yourself to Hel and her legion of combat rogues? Perhaps Odin is more your style, with enough healing and buffing powers to support a team. Maybe instead you’ll walk the path of the Heathen and become an unstoppable tank?
Whatever you choose, you’ll make your enemies know your name. We can’t wait to see the combination of skills that you imagine.

We'll see you in Midgard when Rune II: Decapitation Edition launches November 13th! Still have questions about RUNE II? Ask on our Steam Forums in our ongoing Ask Us Anything thread!
With the launch of RUNE II: Decapitation Edition on November 13, 2020, we’ll be enabling RUNE II’s PvP modes: Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.
In Deathmatch, it’s a free-for-all of Kill or Be Killed. Find the nearest weapon and fight for your life in this winner take all mode. In Team Deathmatch, join allies as you take up arms to be the winning team.
Our PvP modes will include toggleable options through the engine dials for all of our new player progression options in RUNE II's Campaign. You don’t want the crafting menu or inventory? Turn it off. Want to play Deathmatch with no god skills? Done. Have everyone in a Team Deathmatch leveled to 50 with the attribute points to match? You got it.
We’ll be watching carefully how players react to us turning these modes back on and we’ll be listening to your feedback on how you’re enjoying the new PvP combat experience. We are also using these updated PvP modes to explore the possibility of adding an Arena mode to RUNE II.
We will only do an Arena mode if we see significant interest from MULTIPLE people, so make sure to tell us on our Official Discord and our Steam Forums if an Arena mode is something you want to see in RUNE II: Decapitation Edition.
We'll see you in Midgard soon!

Aside from opening your mail inbox on November 13, 2020 and redeeming your code, no further action is required.
1) Yes, we will have a Steam launch discount when RUNE II: Decapitation Edition releases next month. 2) Yes, you can crossplay in multiplayer with your friends that own RUNE II on another PC Storefront. 3) Yes, you can play the entire campaign in Single Player. I personally think co-op makes RUNE II more fun, but you do you. 4) Yes, we have a roadmap. We are currently working on new voice actors, co-op and PvP improvements, full controller support, new dungeons, and a lot more. Read the full roadmap here.
Have a question that wasn’t answered here? I’m holding an ongoing “Ask Me Anything” in this Steam forum thread.
One more thing - players that purchase RUNE II: Decapitation Edition on Steam within the first month will get the exclusive in-game Dragon Armor!
November 13 is exactly one month away. I’ll see you all in Midgard with a flagon of mead very soon!
Welcome back to Midgard, warriors! In preparation for our Steam launch next month, here’s what we’re working on right now:
NEW VOICES
Our brand new voice acting cast has over 2000+ updated lines of dialogue. We’re very pleased with how immersive the world of RUNE II has become with a fully voiced cast of characters. We are in the process of adding a few more characters and voices to round out our cast, as well as adding additional audio effects to RUNE II’s voices and gameplay.
MULTI-SLAYER
We’ve added support for UPNP networking in RUNE II's multiplayer modes. This means that we can now automatically add port forwarding options without you needing to open ports manually on your firewall and router. It’s never been easier to host a RUNE II game -- just enter a hosted game name at the bottom of your Character Selection in the Campaign menu. You can find more information about our multiplayer at rune2.com/multiplayer.
As part of our roadmap we will be making improvements to RUNE II's PvP experience. More to come on this topic soon!
CONTROL YOUR DESTINY
We’ve heard that you want to play RUNE II on a gamepad instead of a mouse and keyboard. We are working on full controller support. At the time of this post, we have partial controller support in, with full functionality throughout the menus and game still to come. We’ve got a bit more gamepad work to do internally before our Steam launch next month.
RESPECT YOUR ELDRSTADTS
We’ve got 3 brand new dungeons in RUNE II and we’re putting the finishing touches on one more dungeon for next month’s Steam launch. You’ll be plundering the depths of Eldrstadt Castle to retrieve an ancient norse artifact. Be warned, not all who enter Eldrstadt Castle make it out alive...
TIP OF THE SPEAR
We’re wrapping up performance improvements, Steam support and integrations, balance tuning, bug fixes, stability upgrades, optimizations, UPNP support, engine dials, user interface and user experience polish, and more.

Viking Domination: A Look at the New Rebuildable System
War, turmoil, and chaos have left Midgard devastated with minimal signs of life throughout the realm. As you journey to end Ragnarok and take down the maniacal Loki, you’ll need to rebuild structures that will provide shelter and a much needed safe harbor for you and your clan. Travel the world, conquering new lands and ensuring world domination for those you serve.
For the chosen warriors that are currently in the Rune Beta Program, you’ve seen rebuildable longhouses scattered throughout the world. These structures are the remnants of once beautiful buildings that held celebrations and sacred events. Now, they’re your first line of defense against the dangers of Ragnarok.
Rebuild longhouses by contributing resources scavenged throughout the lands. When these structures are brought back to their former glory, all who contributed will reap the benefits. Inside, you’ll be able to house crafting anvils to build arsenals, stoke fires to cook food, and gain protection from enemy AI and other players. Those who do not contribute to the structure will be kept out and unprotected from the dangerous inhabitants of the world.
The warrior who contributes the most resources to the longhouse owns the buildings. The owner of the longhouse, and those who are aligned to the same god or in the same clan, will have increased attack power when near their longhouses. As you and your clan take over the realm, gaining more and more ownership of the world, Loki’s power drains and in his weakened state he’ll be no match for you and your vicious Viking clan. Take up arms with other god-aligned Vikings or members of your clan to dominate the entire world on a server.
Beware, warrior. Rebuilding structures and owning them during Ragnarok will not be easy. Rival Vikings can attack your structures, wearing them down and rebuilding them for themselves. Scorned gods may wreak havoc on your property to serve their warriors and further their motives to end Ragnarok. If your structures survive these dangers, the world itself may destroy what you’ve worked so hard to build.
Battles closer to Early Access this Winter will feature the ability to break down enemy structures, reclaim them as your own, and receive god-aligned buffs when in the area. During Early Access Development, you’ll find additional structures to rebuild throughout the world (including villages, shrines, vaults, forges, and more) and the ability to work with your clan to dominate an entire server.
Journey to the forums and let us know what you think as we continue to work on the rebuildable structures in Midgard. You can also follow along as we develop more features and implement new systems by visiting our road map. There’s no better way to experience the dangers of Ragnarok and prove yourself among the fiercest warriors than participating in our Beta Program. Take the oath. Get a key.
Take arms and join us for the most intense Closed Beta playtest yet. Servers are live NOW, November 10 and will be up until 4:00 p.m. CST (UTC-6). In addition, the same build will also be available on November 13, 2018. Servers will be live from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. CST (UTC-6). Journey your way through a revamped Viking world and witness a number of optimizations, bug fixes, and updates.

Development Update: November 1
Warrior, come with us on the journey to Early Access. Over the course of the last few weeks, we’ve changed up the road map and added new features and systems to the game. So far, beta testers have seen:
Shield-Maidens: Our fearsome female player character has finally made it to battle. Similarly to the male player character, she has unique, customizable hairstyles and tattoos. All of her armor, weapons, Rune powers, and god alignment benefits will be the same as the male character, albeit fitted for her.
God Alignment: We’ve significantly improved the god alignment system. Previously, the entire selection process happened before you spawned into the game. Now, you’ll have to start your journey through Ragnarok as a heathen. If you survive the initial quests, you’ll be lead to the Divine Summit, a place of hallowed ground emblazoned with the ancient shrines of Odin, Thor, and Hel. In this sacred space, you’ll pledge to your god, receiving blessings and power in return. Choose wisely warrior, there’s no turning back once your decision has been made. And, the choice you made may anger the gods you ignored.
Ragnarok Timer: The mysterious Ragnarok timer has been moved up to the “In Development” section of the road map. As the timer counts down, the already chaotic world will become even more unsafe. Once the timer hits zero, Loki’s dark magic forces a world-altering event that may have unexpected impacts on Midgard. We have the technical elements of the Timer and ramifications fully functional. The team is focusing on additional gameplay elements and polishing the feature. We will reveal more in the coming weeks.
Rebuildables: Protect yourself from vicious AI and bring order to Midgard by rebuilding structures throughout the world. Contributing resources to partially built structures will restore them to their completed states and provide shelter while you craft new items, arrange your inventory, and cook food. As we get closer to Early Access this Winter, expect to see more diverse buildings with the ability to take ownership for yourself and your god. If you claim enough rebuildables in a single area, your god will be empowered and bless the area for all who pledge to them. We have a lot of ideas for future buildings, providing useful abilities for you as you seek to rebuild villages and towns. Just a quick taste: forges, smelters, shrines to your god, and even a meadery.
Combat: Brutal combat is an essential part of any Viking experience. We’re continuing to tweak and polish the combat system. We’ve worked on AI improvements, making them more dangerous, more intelligent, and giving AI many more abilities. We’ve improved the feel of combat when striking enemies, improved dodge functionality, and tweaked enemy pain/stuns. A small, but powerful addition that has been requested a lot: you can finally easily sheath your current weapon with its associated hotkey.
The November 10 & 13 playtests are going to highlight all of the areas shown here. It’s not too late to get in on the action. The Closed Beta Program is still open and limited keys are available. Sign up now and get access to every playtest happening until the game hits Early Access this Winter. See you in Midgard, warrior.
