Where did team RWBY go after Forever Fall? How are the Creatures of Grimm being mutated? All will be answered soon!
Explore new locations in the World of Remnant
What lurks at the end of this tunnel?
The Island
Without giving too much away, here’s a glimpse at some of what the team has been hard at work. This is a shot of a moody, new level. Can you spot all the new additions?
New Enemies
As you progress into the new levels, you’ll discover a fierce new enemy. These Androids are programmed with protecting… something.
The Lab
Again, we’re not going to spill the beans, but those mutants are coming from somewhere.
Moving Forward
If you’ve been following our recent news updates, you’ll know that we’ve been continually addressing community feedback: performance, features, graphics, etc. Tuesday’s release will include another batch of improvements, new features, and tweaks to old content.
Once we hit full release, our team will continue to support the game and our awesome community. Don’t you worry, we have plans for new content and characters. We’ve had more than a couple requests for team JNPR...
RTX
If you’re in Austin for RTX, come by the booth and get your mitts on this new content before you can download it. Like last year, we’re aiming to have a cool physical goodie for all those that play through our RTX 2016 build. We have a rotating schedule of various RT Games members that will be at the booth. We’ll see you there!
Well here we are, getting a suntan from our computer monitors in a windowless room, right in the middle of the Steam Summer Sale. We have some huge news coming later this week about the next big content update. Flashy gifs should be expected! Until then, we’d like to cover a few changes coming to the core of RWBY:Grimm Eclipse.
Persistent Characters
In the early days of RWBY-GE, we were aiming for more replayability via a MOBA-like leveling system. Meaning, each time you played, you could spec your character differently. Well, after a lot of community feedback and playtesting, we’re moving to persistent characters.
What does that mean? Great question! Now, all progress done on a character is saved from play session to session. Play for a few chapters as Weiss, unlock a handful of abilities, come back a week later, and your huntress’s progress is right where you left it.
For those of you that like a little extra challenge, we’re adding Hunter Ranks. These ranks are meant to give players long term goals through various sets of challenges. For example, once you complete the challenge of fully leveling the four main characters, you can opt to rank up. Ranking up will reset the progress of all your characters, but also grant you access to a new set of challenges. Challenges will vary from rank to rank. Each new rank you achieve will be accompanied by a special gem icon that displays next to your name in game. We can’t wait to see people showing off their hard work via these Hunter Rank gems.
New User Interface
As you can see from the image above, we’ve got a hot new UI coming. We want to hold off a bit before showing it off in all its glory. Rest assured, the new UI is colorful, helpful, and full of RWBY flavor.
Horde Mode
Your main menus have said “Horde Mode - Coming Soon!” for a long time now. It should say “Coming Eventually.’ Our priority is the core game for now. After that, we’ll move on to a few extra goodies, including Horde Mode. That said, this mode will come out after our full launch. Good news, Horde Mode will be a free update to all players.
Combat Polish
These past few months have seen a lot of subtle and not so subtle changes to combat. Most recently, we’ve been polishing animations and FX. Faster team attacks, less landing lag between some moves, and several brand new moves. Each playtest feels better and better, and we think you're going to like it.
Achievements
Several of you internet sleuths noticed that we've been testing achievements. Good eye! It seems like the feline faunus is out of the bag. We'll have a slew of challenges for you all to tackle when the game launches. There may be a fair amount of puns in there. Fair warning.
More Performance Fixes
Thanks to loads of your bug reports and game support emails, we’ve tracked down a few big issues. These issues have been causing a lot of players problems. The next update should allow the game to run smoother than ever before. More in the next update.
Performance Issue Reporting
As usual, we need details when you report bugs. Head over to this post if you have issues. Please be detailed.
Post bugs here!

We’ll announce more in the next news post, but if you’re coming to RTX, sound off in the comments. The excitement levels are building to insane levels! We can’t wait to see the community play unreleased, never before seen content at RTX…. um, I mean… perhaps I’ve said too much.

New Patch: Butter and Butter
Hello Team!
What better way to kick off the weekend than with a hot new RWBY: Grimm Eclipse patch. Short and sweet, here’s a quick list of the latest fixes.
Level Select
You can now jump directly to any level in the game.
New Graphics Options
SSAO and Bloom options have been added to the Settings menu. They're off by default. This will improve performance on lower end machines. If you have great hardware, you can enable these to get the best looking experience.
Updated Character Models
New toon shader. #NBD
We know it’s been such a hot topic
Camera Tuning
For gamepad players, we increased the time before the camera autocorrects.
VO updates
Blake’s placeholder VO in Forever Fall has been replaced with actress Arryn Zech’s.
Floating Weiss Bug
There was a way to float as Weiss. Apparently, our speedrunning community used it a fair amount. Y'all can thank Apacolyps for pointing this out.
Performance Issue Reporting
If you continue to have performance issues, there will be a pinned General Discussion post. Please give a detailed description of what’s happening and your machine’s specs. This is the best way for us to track and fix performance issues.
We sure hope your hard drives don’t melt from this hot new patch.
We’re back again for a quick news update. Our next update will be a patch that aims to address a lot of the community’s recent feedback. Yes, even the characters! Before we dive into what you can expect from the new patch, we’d like to comment about our ongoing development and our Early Access status.
Since launching our Greenlight, we’ve been scouring the web for your feedback, input, fan art, and any other fuel for our own personal hype trains. See, we’re not just folks making this game, we’re RWBY fans ourselves. We’re part of this community. We have favorite characters to nerd out about. We have personal desires for what this game will end up being. I say all of that to say this: we’re not just skimming your feedback, we’re searching for it so that we, as a community, can make this the game we all want. That’s why we did Early Access.
Moving forward. Two things from the last update that we didn’t foresee being an issue:
1) A few of you weren’t huge fans of the look of the character models. Granted, this is a purely aesthetic issue, but we realize the iconic look and feel of RWBY team was altered and that affected your opinion of the game.
2) We accidently left in a lighting effect that added depth to objects in the game (SSAO - screen space ambient occlusion). We didn’t create an option to disable the new lighting effects, and this may have counteracted the whole point of making the character changes and a few other performance optimizations we added in. Many of you reported crashes. We’re sorry for this inconvenience. The coming patch will address both issues.
We hope our track record for listening to, and acting on, the community’s feedback shows that Early Access was the right choice. Over the past six months, our team has shared many, many of your comments internally. Whether positive, critical, or straight up funny, we appreciate the time, effort, and care in your feedback. You all rock and this game couldn’t exist without you.
Team hug!
Now, let’s dive into some details of what to expect in the upcoming patch. Short and sweet.
Updated Character Models
We’ve changed our shaders to lean back towards that flat, toon style.
New Graphics Options
SSAO and Bloom options have been added. They're off by default. This will improve performance on lower end machines, but for those of you with serious hardware, you can enable these to get the best looking experience. These options can be found in Settings.
Level Select
You can now jump directly to any level from the game. A lot of the community was asking for this.
Camera Tuning
For controller players, much more time must pass before the camera autocorrects.
VO updates
Blake’s placeholder VO in Forever Fall has been replaced with actress Arryn Zech’s (kudos to those of you out there that noticed this).
That's it for now. The update will be out very soon.
Howdy friends! Are you enjoying the new content update?
Forever Fall looking beautiful? Combat feeling faster and more fluid now? New mutant Beowolf giving you a good fight? And how about those new music tracks?
All good stuff, right?
But wait…. It sounds like there’s a fairly mixed opinion on the new shader for the character models? Some really hate the new look, while others really like it. Well, we know we can’t please everyone - but rest assured we’re listening to your feedback and already have plans to shift the shader back towards the original toon style. And we also plan to improve the character’s facial expressions to remove the lifeless ‘doll’ face. It’s all still “work in progress” as we continue to build the game.
We really appreciate those of you who understand the iterative process of game development. We’re working really hard to make a great game for you. That’s why we decided to launch the game in Early Access. So you could be a part of the process as we develop the game. Just know we’re not perfect. We’ll sometimes make mistakes. We’re human too.
With that in mind, we ask for a little understanding and patience as you make comments and post reviews. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but we hope you’ll try to remain constructive in your feedback instead of destructive and hurtful. We’re still committed to making this a great game we’re all proud of. So let’s be friendly and work together as a team. Cool?
Ok, we’re going to go watch the premier episode of RWBY Chibi again now.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I can smell summer just around the corner! Woohoo!
Lots of love from RT Games! ❤❤❤ ːsteamhappyː
Happy New Content Day! Forever Fall is Live!
Hello team!
This is the day you’ve waited for.
RWBY: Grimm Eclipse now has hot new content. You’ve journeyed through the Emerald Forest and deep into Mountain Glenn. Now follow the train tracks of Forever Fall as you seek to uncover who’s behind the recent Grimm invasion.
In this update you’ll find new levels, more story, a challenging new enemy to slay (good luck), new music (like, a lot), loads of new sound effects, more Yang puns, and more visual improvements than you can shake the Crescent Rose at. We’ve also improved the camera more, further balance to the combat system, several new animations and visual effects.
As part of our progress towards better performance, we needed to remake the character models. The previous models were very taxing on players' machines. The new models are more efficient and allow for much smoother play sessions.
Oh, and a little feature that we’ve never mentioned, but tons of you have requested….
TAUNTS!
General Improvements
Since launching on Early Access, we’ve been tracking performance issues. The team has been hard at work tackling various aspects of the game to rescue your lost frames from the aether. As always, if you have issues, please head over to the discussion boards and let us have it… I mean, let us know what’s up.
Also, the game sounds worlds better. The Grimm sound mean and frightening. Weapons sound dangerous and sharp. Combat is crunchy. And leveling up… well, you’ll see.
Known Issues
The resolution listed in the Settings menu doesn’t always reflect the actual resolution.
There are a few discrepancies between voiceover and subtitle text.
Some subtitles get cut off and don’t show the entire statement.
Chat messages disappear when there are too many lines entered.
Some performance issues (If you report issues, please include your machine's specs).
Control diagram does not display how to taunt: Up on d-pad or 1 on keyboard.
RWBY Play Day!
Since we’ve been working so hard to get this update to you, we’re taking the afternoon to engage with all of you. We’ll be watching Twitter, Twitch, jumping in chat, and jumping in random games to see how the community is faring in the new levels. So send us game invites. Let us know when you’re streaming. Oh, and send us gifs of you taunting the in-coming hordes of Grimm.
Wanna reach us directly? We’re a busy bunch, but we all love taking a little time to chat with the community. Say hey!

Content Update: Soon!
Hello Team
It’s finally new content time! We’ve been working away to not just expand the existing game, but improve your experience overall. New levels, a new enemy, revamped audio, in addition to several fun odds and ends. Let’s get to the deets!
Forever Fall
When this update goes live, you’ll be able to travel into Forever Fall on your Grimm slaying journey. On your adventure, you’ll discover more about who’s behind the latest Grimm invasion. We’ll leave those details for you to discover. For now, check out the view!
New Enemy
You know, we’d hate to ruin the surprise that’s lurking somewhere in Forever Fall, so here’s a picture of Zwei.
Quality of Life Improvements
Since launching on Early Access, we’ve been tackling performance issues. One of our biggest issues has always been the character models. Thanks to a few of our skilled teammates, the characters are now constructed in a more efficient way that asks a lot less of your PC. Release the frames! (We hope)
Also, we’ve been slaving away on how the game sounds. When you wrap your ears around this new update, we hope you’ll dig the new audio as much as we do. Ever been chased by a wild beast that had knives for fingers? Well, next time you face down a Beowolf, you’ll know how if feels. And the creeps! UG! Those little fellas are so gnarly sounding.
Price Increase
We originally launched at a reduced price in an effort to allow players the chance to get in early and give feedback on a project in development. As we hone in on the final release and add new content, the game’s price will reflect our on-going development effort. While the game isn’t quite finished, but has new content, we’re bumping the price up a bit.
So, if you have friend out there that have been on the fence about picking up their copy of RWBY, now is the time. When this update goes live, so does the new price.
What do you think?
If you have question, let us know! Speak your mind in the Steam forums, Reddit.com/r/GrimmEclipse/ or even directly @Skilltacular on Twitter.
Keep it up, team!
