Nominate Samurai Bringer for the Steam Awards!

Hello everyone,

Samurai Bringer has shaken up the roguelite hack n slash genre with its voxel-like pixel aesthetics, procedurally generated maps, and over 1000 legendary Japanese warriors including famous Generals from Japanese history.

Obtain combat techniques by defeating enemies to mix and match and create your very own personalized fighting style!

Samurai Bringer not only delivers on action but also presents a gripping underdog story about Susanoo, a powerful deity who's stripped of his power and fights his way back from rock bottom.
This is why we feel that it is an excellent candidate for Steam Awards’ Game of the Year.

We would appreciate all your support in nominating Samurai Bringer as Steam’s Game of the Year!

2022/8/12 Small fix

Hello Susanoo's!

After the last update, we've got a report about the SP recovery and we've patched it.
Sorry for the trouble, and enjoy!

New Brave Generals, Functions, and Various Fixes

Hey all you Susanoo’s out there!

It’s been a while. How are you all doing?
We have a major update for you today, so read on to find out more!

As part of our current Samurai Showdown Competition, we’ve added two new Brave Generals to the game: Minamoto Yoshitsune and Musashibō Benkei! Seek them out in-game, show them who’s boss and make their equipment your own!

You can find them at the northernmost part of the Base.
Yoshitsune adopts a swashbuckling style, swiftly cutting down enemies. He is also adept at aerial attacks, as well as bow attacks.
Benkei on the other hand, is not as quick and nimble, but possesses a massive polearm that allows him to draw in hordes of enemies before blowing them away with one daunting swing of his weapon.

Additionally, due to popular demand, we’ve added a function that allows you to revisit previous tips. Simply visit the newly added scrolls in the Base to review tips from earlier in the game you may have forgotten about. Tips yet to be uncovered by the player will remain hidden. Check back on earlier tips periodically, who knows, you may be reminded of some useful techniques to help you on your journey.

We’ve also introduced scarecrows, a new system that allows you to store arms and combat techniques, as well as a new Well system that allows you to return to Base quickly during your adventures.

Have you ever thought “Oh how I wish I could try out the arms of that Brave General I’ve just defeated right away!”? Well, this is where the Well comes in handy! You can also store your custom set-up at a scarecrow while you try out other set-ups. Don’t like the new set-up? Simply return to the scarecrow and revert back to your previous set-up, although it does set you back a little.

We’ve also added mouse support, allowing you to move the camera and carry out certain actions with the mouse. It may be a little confusing, but the mouse cursor is not displayed, not even during the title screen. Just as before, you can navigate menu options via the WASD keys, except now you can select by clicking the left mouse button or go back using the right mouse button. For those interested in giving this function a go, you’ll need to unplug your controller first.

We’ve also addressed the issue of players being killed in an instant by strong Brave Generals during the early stages of the game by reducing combo damage received and making it so that players don’t die immediately upon receiving major damage in one hit. While that should alleviate the issue, don’t forget that if your enemy is too strong, there is no shame in escaping! We’ll just call it tactically retreating.

Here is the full list of changes in this update.
We hope you continue to enjoy Samurai Bringer!

Show off your favored Samurai in our upcoming Samurai Showdown!

Samurai Bringer is a Japanese Rogue-lite Action Game that was released on April 21st.

10 selected Samurai (Generals) from the submissions will be promoted to Brave Generals!

Additional Keyconfig Update

Hey all you Susanoos out there, sorry for the wait!

We’ve released an update, including a new keyconfig addition as well as a bunch of various bug fixes.

To take care of key configurations for the Action Builder, select "Action Builder Settings" from "Config" on the title screen, and from there you'll be able to assign commands to each button. Action buttons 4 and 5 are designated as "Heavy Attack" and "Special Attack", but that's just what we call them, so do feel free to set the keys up in whatever way is easiest for you to use.
Once you've finished these settings, they will be reflected in the Action Builder after you've equipped Brave General armaments at your home base.

Additionally, below are some of the issues/features that have been fixed or added.

Additions:

  • Feature added allowing for the changing of initial placement of combat techniques for Susanoo/Brave Generals in the Action Builder: See above for details.
  • Feature added allowing for the map direction to be fixed: This can be configured via “OPTIONS”. Setting this will keep the map and mini map fixed pointing north.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed bug preventing SFX volume adjustment for some combat techniques
  • Fixed bug stopping progress after defeating the Yuki Onna while frozen
  • Fixed bug stopping progress when Susanoo and Great Demon attacks land simultaneously
  • Fixed bug preventing warping to the proper location
  • Fixed bug occurring when building Susanoo’s armaments at the blacksmith
  • Fixed bug preventing summoning of Secret Scrolls even with the required number of Combat Scrolls
  • Fixed bug in the Yamata-no-Orochi battle causing revival and preventing progress after falling with 0 HP: Due to current specs, the character must fall to the ground in order to be revived.
  • Fixed bugs in Tutorial
  • Fixed mistranslations in the blacksmith armament filter UI
  • Fixed bug stopping progress when using sub weapon to attack the moment a Great Demon appears
  • Fixed bug sometimes preventing exit when not having enough coins at the blacksmith
  • Fixed bug with soft lock occurring after entering a store with a status ailment: Changed specs to remove the status ailment when entering stores.
  • Changed “Light Vortex” initial setting in Options to “Button”
  • Adjusted purple warp zone specs and gravitational pull: Now easier to escape from warp zones.
  • Slight adjustment to Brave General appearance algorithm: Now less chance of being immediately killed by an over-buffed Brave General right after starting the game (Note: they do still appear sometimes).
  • Added invincibility frames when being revived after falling through the floor during the Yamata-na-Orochi battle
  • Fixed bug causing Susanoo to enter shops or torii gates upon hitting 0 HP
  • Fixed config bugs
  • Fixed bug in “Like a Ninja” achievement unlock conditions: Was previously only counted when using Dual Swords; now counted when only using one hand as well. As for the weapons themselves, attacks must be done with weapons other than Ninja Swords.
  • Fixed bug sometimes preventing progress in the Dojo Tutorial

[Known bugs we’re having trouble fixing]
- When playing the Steam version using a Nintendo Switch Pro controller, the displayed actions and the actual controls sometimes differ.
After activating “Switch Pro Configuration Support” from “Controller Settings” in the Steam client settings, deactivate “Use Nintendo Button Layout” and the problem will be fixed.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience the above bugs may have caused.

We are still working on the crash issue, but it's still too early to tell whether it can be fixed.
If you are still experiencing crashes even though you meet the minimum technical requirements, please contact us and let us know your PC specs.

We’ll keep on working to fix up everything we can in order to provide the best play experience possible.

Thank you so much for playing Samurai Bringer, and we hope you continue to enjoy the game.

Samurai Bringer 7th DAY + Scheduled Update Announcement

Hey all you Susanoos out there, thanks so much for playing Samurai Bringer!

We’ve been pursuing all of the positive comments and requests/suggestions for improvement very carefully.
It's going to take a little more time, but we're also working on adding a key configuration feature and fixing various bugs. Our team is working hard to make the game even more fun as quickly as possible!
The following is a list of issues that are currently being addressed, as well as fixes and improvements that will be implemented in the next update. More detailed information will be provided at the time of the actual update.

  • Implementation of key configuration feature
  • Addition of ability to fix map orientation
  • Fixed a bug that was impeding progress when freezing after defeating the Yuki-onna, or when battling a Great Demon
  • Fixed a bug that prevented progress when resurrected during the Yamata-no-Orochi battle
  • Various other bug fixes

Also, we are still investigating the crash issue and the save data loss issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
We're looking forward to all of your reviews, feedback, and bug reports!

Now then, there was a bit of a pause, but we are very pleased to announce the continuation of this Samurai Bringer news.

It's been a whole week since the game's release! We assume some of you Susanoos have already defeated the Yamata-no-orochi. Congratulations!
For those of you just starting out, enjoy! Also, sorry for the spoiler-y news!

There are so many ingame achievements that we're sure there are very few Susanoos out there who have unlocked them all.

If you look at this, you will see "Quick Rescue" at the bottom. (You can also find this in the Steam Achievements.)
The ultimate goal here is to pull off the rescue within three days - or 72 hours - of ingame time.
If you achieve this, you will not only defeat Yamata-no-Orochi, but also...?
Be sure to give it a try!

However, it's pretty hard to try to rush and take down some of the more difficult enemies really quickly when you're having a hard enough time just taking them down normally! We'll provide a few tips for those of you who feel this may be a bit too hardcore.
There is almost no time to leisurely collect equipment from Brave Generals, but it can help a lot if you can get some of the useful passive skills we've described in the news previously, so one strategy is to avoid rushing into boss yokai fights immediately after starting, but to instead rush to defeat the samurai on the battlefield.
Another (slight) difference would be to register a strategic set of skills using Secret Scrolls in order to save time in setting up your combat techniques. Although Secret Scrolls are expensive at 500 coins each, we'd recommend stocking up on them as it's easy to save up money if Susanoo is able to defeat the boss yokai.

Boss yokai generally attack with the "evil" attribute. Since the evil attribute cuts down SP, some of you Susanoos may have a hard time due to running out of stamina quickly, especially when you want to attack continuously.
If this happens, try equipping armaments with passive skills that are resistant to the evil attribute.
Even if you don't have evil resistance, it'll be much easier if you have resistance to ice, fire, or other attribute attacks.
Also, each boss yokai has a weakness to one attribute or another. By simply swapping attributes, the damage you can dole out can change drastically!

If your attack fails to reach their weakness, you need to either jump, or attack with a different, upward-hitting move.
In the former case, try incorporating four Jumps into your combat techniques in order to avoid falling back down during a jump attack.
For the latter, try various combinations and incorporate techniques such as Samidare into techniques with large upward-hitting attacks in order to increase both the number of hits and damage.

And lastly, just keep trying and trying again! You got this!

Today’s Tips For Those of You Whom These May Still Benefit:

  • The camera can be rotated left and right. You can also look downward from above by pressing the buttons simultaneously (you can also return to the previous view by pressing the buttons simultaneously). The rotation direction can also be changed in the options, too!
  • In Options, you can choose to enter advancing/retreating Light Vortex automatically or manually (by pressing LT)!
  • If you're like, "I can't see the treasure chests or enemies hidden by trees and buildings!", try rotating the camera or turning on transparency in the Options menu to be able see their outlines!
As you can see, the Options/various configurations can prove super handy, so make sure you check them out!

Samurai Bringer 6th DAY

Hey all you Susanoos out there! Have you been using your sub weapons?

For those of you who have yet to come upon these sub weapons, keep on playing through the game - they’ll pop up soon.

Sub weapons can be somewhat difficult to use properly, but the most convenient thing about them is that the more armaments you have equipped, the more passive skills you can equip.

However, the “sub weapon skills” category is filled with some pretty deep stuff, so we’ll do a bit of explaining down below!

Sub weapons not only help by increasing the number of passive skills you can equip; they can also be used in many ways with the "Sub Weapon" skill, too.
(Ex. 1) Gun equipped as sub weapon; combine “Sub Weapon” + “Gun” skills.
You can swap the weapon and sub weapon (gun) you're holding to fire your gun.
(Ex. 2) Sword equipped as sub weapon; combine “Sub Weapon” + “Slash Down” skills.
You can swap the weapon and sub weapon (sword) you're holding to attack.
You can execute not only “Slash Down” but all techniques this way.

*The "Manipulate" skill is also special, but the two can be combined to increase your number of moves.
(Ex. 3) Spear (also works with swords, ninja swords, and guns) equipped as sub weapon; combine “Sub Weapon” + “Manipulate” skills.
The spear is deployed on your back and fired off as-is. Since the spear becomes a projectile weapon, it works well with the "Guidance" skill.
The number of shots increases according to the number of "Manipulate" skills equipped. You can also perform other actions while firing.

(Ex. 4) Axe (also works with 2-edged swords) equipped as sub weapon; combine “Sub Weapon” + “Manipulate” skills.
Your axe will spin around your character, blowing away any enemy it hits.

(Ex. 5) War fan equipped as sub weapon; combine “Sub Weapon” + “Manipulate” + “Lightning Type” skills.
Lightning will be generated around your character.
The number of shots increases according to the number of "Manipulate" skills equipped. When attaching attributes, be careful with them as you yourself will also be affected if you don't have resistance to that specific element at that time.

Also, if different sub weapons are equipped to each shoulder, they will behave differently, so you'll be able to fire a gun and have an axe protect your surroundings simply by using the "Sub Weapon" + "Manipulate" skills.
There are many more other combinations apart from those mentioned in the above examples.

If you have a sub weapon combo you'd like to show off to everyone, then by all means, share a screenshot or two!

Today’s Tip: Armaments without skills equipped may seem useless, but when used to combine with other stuff, it's more likely to provide an enhancement value!
