It's been a long, long weekend and we're winding down from our exciting time at Star Trek Las Vegas! Today, we're going to kick back and watch comedy sketches!
Without further ado, here are three more tips to help you get started designing amazing quests in Sansar.
Be as clear and concise as possible Use clear and concise language in objectives; you can add flavorful descriptions, but make sure they don’t obscure the steps which will help players who may be stuck or possibly confused.
Additionally, tie visual and auditory elements together with the quest system to help bring a player’s attention to an objective. (For example, animated arrows in the tutorial space.) Use lights or sounds to highlight important locations--a broken object needing to be fix might spark and sizzle--to help separate the things a player should care about from the background noise of the environment. And definitely try to use cues when something in the environment changes to make sure the change wasn’t overlooked… such as a door creaking as it opens behind the player.
When possible, double-up your messaging techniques! Perhaps a player doesn’t have the sound on… then how would they know something happened if the only indication was a sound? (Ditto voiceover--this is why subtitles exist!)
The vacation rule Remember the “vacation rule”: if a user is in the middle of your quest and then goes on vacation for a week, are the quest and objective descriptions clear enough that, when they come back, they’ll understand what they need to do next to continue the quest?
Don't leave your players in the dark Except in very special circumstances, don’t leave your player without some sort of idea of what they should be doing. If one quest ends by starting a new quest (or at least making sure that it’s clear that the quest-giver has something new), you’ve created a smooth flow for your player experience.
If a quest ends and the player isn’t told that there’s a next step, they might think they’re done or get distracted/bored/confused trying to figure out what to do next.
More tips coming soon! We'll be back with more tips and tricks for quest design. If you like this series, make sure to let us know in the comments or in Discord so we can keep the good stuff coming your way.

That’s why we’re releasing our Avatar 2.0 skeleton early - to give you all of August to optimize your content. Click here to get access!
But that’s not all.
Starting today, you’ll also be able to submit any avatar items you create against the new skeleton to the Sansar team for an official review. These include: full avatars, rigged clothing, hair, MD clothing, emotes, and accessories.
