We launched an update for Savant last week, I've summarized the highlights below:
(NOTE) The game has been nominated as for the Best GameMaker Release Of 2013, and the voting has started! If you enjoyed the game, you can vote for Savant - Ascent here: https://www.facebook.com/yoyogames/app_303561899745219
FEATURES: + Online highscore lists now supports higher scores than 2 billion.
+ Enemies are now color coded, showing how they differ in strength/points. Example: A red enemy yields more points than a green enemy, but is also much tougher.
+ You can press Q to obtain the closest CD-piece.
+ You can press middle mouse button to enable auto-attack.
+ Wyrms now get smaller in length to show you how damaged they are.
+ When you progress in Endless, the enemies and background colors will change according to which wave you're currently facing.
Xmas Update Goes Live!
Happy Holidays everyone!
We've just uploaded a very special version of Savant - Ascent, and it's currently live for PC(Mac/Linux following soon).
A short list of features:
<*>Xmas version. Press 'X' in the main menu, and join us in celebration!
<*>New unlockable CD and powerup! (Hint, play Endless)
<*>Achievments and global highscore tables for the competetive!
<*>Pause menu where you can also select unlocked CDs.
<*>Better controller support(controller now activated through options menu, and clicking the mouse in-game will switch control scheme to mouse)
<*>Updated graphics for HD menus(1080p support has been requested, we will work on this later, as this will require us to build levels bigger)
<*>Find numbers annoying? Turn score pop-ups off in the options menu.
<*>Ultimate Power! (will not spoil, look for hints in achievements list on Steam)
Upcoming Achievements + Content
We've been hard at work adding achievements to the game, as achievements can provide a more solid sense of accomplishment when making progress throughout the game. BUT, as I see it, achievements in themselves are not enough to fulfill a sense of accomplishment when playing our game.
We've tried to pull off a few things when keeping the implementation of achievements in mind:
1. They need to be actual achievements. Grinding for an achievement is not reward enough in itself, we like to see people mastering this game, and as such, will be adding only achievements that we feel the player has to really fight to earn.
2. We're eager to add more achievements as we see players getting better, and if we see that achievements actually brings value to the game experience. If you have any ideas for future achievements, please let us know.
3. We've avoided adding achievements for scores and best times, and instead added online leaderboards so you can challange friends/rivals. We've intentionally split the game into an online mode and a local mode, so that players who are happy with their own progress can avoid competing on a global scale.
4. We wanted to reward the player in-game while also being awarded an achievement on Steam, but the game has many versions, some without any Steam connection. We've hopefully added enough content for players to do a new round of exploration, and later we might explore further the possibility of joining both in-game rewards with achievements.
5. BUT, we thought it may be a great idea to hint at the new hidden content that is being added. From reading the descriptions of the achievements, you can now figure out that there are a total of 6 albums in the game, that there are secret new moves, and that you can obtain Ultimate Power etc. So the achievement page in itself becomes useful when trying to completing the game.
The new update will be available very soon, and we'll announce it right here when it does! Hope you'll enjoy the extra additions!
Quick post-launch report
We're getting some reports in that:
1. People are unable to control the game. This might be because the game has detected the controller, and is trying to look for input using the currently plugged in joypad. We will fix this bug asap, but for now, this can be fixed by either playing with you're controller, or unplugging it to play with keyboard/mouse.
2. The game does not support 1080p, which is because the in-game levels are acctually to small for this resolution. We will add support for this as soon as possible.
All the best, and hope you're enjoying the game :-D
HD mode!
We're adding support for a resolution up to 1680x1050 to the game. We've added some screenshots on the D-Pad Facebook page.
