Well, it's almost time! I'm dropping an update very soon!
To those who were patient and stuck around, thank you for your patience, I truly appreciate it, it was annoying to had to delay like this after months of stable updates when I first uploaded the game.
In a way, I think this was for the better, this will allow me to have more freedom with the game, since I'm not bounded by the "SCP" label anymore, not to mention the game will have its own identity.
-------
To those TWO amazing people who actually bought the game with its current price, one of them last year, and another one just a few days ago... thank you, AND as promised, I will name a level after YOU, I'll also throw in a couple extra surprises, I'll add your name to the game credits if you send your name to me via the email I'll put below... and I would like to get in touch with you, so you can give me some personal feedback on how to make the game better.
To get that done, I'll need proof that you did purchase the game during this hiatus with the discouraging price (since that's something I cannot see), so please send me an email at "jeprdev@gmail.com", add the word "Derelict" on the subject name (I got a filter in that email to store all the game-related emails to an special folder) and attach an screenshot of the receipt or any other proof that you did get the game during this hiatus.
--------
The game will remain as is (in price) for now, I'll change it back once I post the update, now, I want you to keep in mind that the changes won't be GIGANTIC, but they will be there, first of all, the "SCP" name will be gone, second, the game will have more maps (decided to keep survival mode, i'll just improve it), and lastly, there will be a demo campaign level in it! There will also be a few extra surprises in there! I wish I had a complete overhaul by now, but after the hiatus other things came up in my life, not to mention the pandemic kinda held me by my neck financially for a while.
So anyways the project is back now, and expect more frequent updates, just like before the incident! I'm taking this shit seriously! :-)
Thank you all again for sticking around and stay tuned!
COMING BACK SOON
After a long wait I'm proud to tell you that the game will make its return very soon, for those still waiting, thank you.
I've successfully removed all the SCP related content and I'm just making the final changes to the plot to make it non-scp.
Now... during this hiatus time, I did notice that more than one of you purchased the game while in its discouraging $200 price, why? I do not know, but I thank you, I've used that money to further improve the game by getting tools that will enhance the game experience such as the AI (which lets be honest, my AI code sucks).
I'll keep the game "private" for now by keeping the price as it currently is, I want the current community to "test" the new upcoming levels and mechanics, this for the purpose of making sure the game does improve and it's ready to be open for everyone again... it might stay that way for quite some time, since there's still a lot of work to do and I no longer have a team helping me out.
...and for those who supported me by purchasing the game with its current price... I'll add exclusive levels for you to enjoy, if you want your name on them please send me an email here (jeprdev@gmail.com) with proof you bought it for that price.
That's all for now, please stay tuned for more information and the updates!
For those still eager to play this game, thank you for your patience.
GAME HIATUS (READ TO KNOW WHY)
Hello everyone, the purpose of this announcement is to let you all know that the game is going into a brief hiatus, the reason for that is that, as some of you accurately pointed out long ago, I encountered some legal issues over the "SCP" name, so I decided to put the game into the hiatus until I can decide what to do with it. This has been going on for months (since June last year), which is also a reason why I haven't uploaded any updates for a year now.
It sucks because I made sure to comply with everything but I should have seen that coming, for now I'm going to do two things: Remove the "SCP" stuff from all the game's content, and raise the price to discourage further downloading until I sort things out.
There's a secondary reason for why I'm doing this, not too long ago I lost my job and, due to the pandemic, I haven't been lucky finding a new one, so I've been trying to make money from other sources, I have bills to pay and have to eat after all lol.
Please keep in mind I'm NOT cancelling the game, it's just in a hiatus, much of the work and ideas I had done so far revolved around the concept of SCP Foundation so I need time to think how to sort things out.
So thank you all for being patient so far, try to stay tuned, remember i'm not cancelling anything yet, just a little rebranding. I'll also update the game soon to remove some things and improve others.
[PICS] Update v1.5
Sup everyone! Nope, not done yet! But I wanted to show you a few pics of a tiny part of the level that will be included in the upcoming update! Keep in mind it's still unfinished and will change and be polished.
Hope you enjoy!
(Steam changed the way devs post updates and I can't figure out how to attach the pictures here so I'm just gonna post the links).
Now, I've been working on the story itself and decided I'm also changing that, since I'm now including actual SCPs from the official wiki, I'm also removing the "edgy above-keter-class" crap and I'm making the two main antagonists just keter-class.
So yeah, things might become a bit more interesting, I'll show a bit more soon, but not too much so I don't spoil the fun lol.
Hope you like what you see so far, have a great day/night!
UPCOMING UPDATE
Hey everyone, I apologize for the delay, as some of you may already know, my team quit so I'm working on my own, but something else, more personal kept me from working for some time.
Anyways, I've been reading very thoroughly your reviews, posts and messages and there are a few things I must address.
1.- Use actual SCPs, don't make up new ones
From what I've been reading, the SCPs listed in the actual Wiki are copyrighted, but I decided to ask a couple guys I know who actually work on the Wiki site about whether that's true or not, if they are not copyrighted then you can be sure I'm gonna use some of them (at least those who fit into the genre).
2.- Graphics look bad
This game is supposed to look retro-ish with more simple geometry and not too many details, however, I don't want something like that to kill this game so I'll make the levels more detailed.
3.- Doesn't feel like an SCP game
That's because I'm still working on the actual campaign and, in order to keep you busy while I work on it, I released the "Survival Mode", but I decided to scrap that game mode and focus all of my attention into the campaign now, one more reason why I haven't posted in a while.
Believe me guys, don't judge the actual game just by looking at the survival mode, this IS an SCP game after all, I don't blame you tho, so far the Survival Mode is all I've shown to you but trust me, you're gonna love the campaign.
This game is in Early Access for a reason, I already have a story and other elements for the game, but you are the ones who will actually play this and I expect you to enjoy this game.
Since this game is in a very early stage you can be sure as hell that I can still change anything I want or have to in accordance to what you like and expect from this.
Having said this, post here or in the forums constructive suggestions and ideas you may have for this game, part of its canvas is still blank and open for you to write on so please do so.
I'm gonna post a video later this week with new stuff I've been working on and might appear in the first campaign demo level.
Regards!
v1.2 IS UP!
That's right everyone, the update v1.2 is up now! The changes are small but hopefully a good improvement.
List of changes:
- New sounds for rifle
- Rifle is fully automatic! You can now press and hold the shooting button for the rifle to shoot nonstop
- New sounds for pistol
- Muzzle flash & bullet impact effects for both rifle and pistol added
- Fixed player clip and issue with disappearing objects
- Maps have real names now!
- Contact shadows, this will add more realism to the lighting as well as add more detail and depth to textures
- Removed the bulletin board, it was not needed tbh
List of changes to expect from v1.5
- New weapon
- New SCP into Survival Mode
- Small prequel campaign level with new SCP
- Bullet impact marks
- Improved interface for pause menu
- Changes to the settings from the main menu
- Music
- New health bar design
- Removing the framerate counter (or making it optional from the settings)
- General improvement to the UI
And that's all for now, it's not much but there are three reasons for that, the first is that I'm also working on the update v1.5, the second was choosing the names for the maps, and the third and most important is the fact that my gf is 3 months pregnant!(suffered miscarriage recently so nvm...).
Anyways, I don't have a date yet for the v1.5 update but I expect it to be soon. Have a great day/night everyone!
v1.2 Almost Ready! & Important Announcement
Sup everyone! I want to let you all know I'm almost done with the update v1.2, sorry for taking long, the last couple weeks have been rough.
The only thing remaining to pack and upload that update are the maps names for the survival mode, I've always sucked at naming things lol.
Well, I have an announcement too, in v1.5 I might release the last update for survival mode, after that I'll just be adding new SCPs into the enemy waves but that would be it.
A recent review brought to my attention something that truly made me open my eyes to the reality, the game as it is right now is NOT in any way SCP...
The survival mode is something I released because it was part of the game way back when I started this project and it was a good way for you to kill some time while I polish and release the actual levels for the campaign. However, a lot of those who have visited this page have been disappointed because that's not what they are expecting for this game, so once I release v1.5 I'm gonna get all my attention to the actual levels.
I did not like the fact that that review called my project a "scummy money grabbing project that took no effort to make" so I'll leave the Survival Mode aside and focus on what truly matters: The Story. I'm also cancelling the second side game mode I was gonna release: Shoot 'Em All.
Sorry if I've been disappointing you all with the direction the game has taken so far, I'll make sure to correct it really soon.
Have a great day/night everyone!
[PICS] v1.5
Yeeeah, this is just to get you pumped since you will get the v1.2 first haha, this is not a survival mode map just so you know but there are a few things here and there that will be part of it and the game in general.
Disclaimer: This is still in development, what you see is gonna improve, change or even be replaced with something better...
Official Changes List for Updates v1.2 & v1.5
Hello everyone, this is the official list for all the changes I'm planning for the two upcoming updates, I did mention this in previous updates but there are some changes that need to be addressed hence this new announcement,
FOR v1.2
- Muzzle flash effects on weapons and impact effects on projectiles The weapons look kinda bland without these, I'll add them for this update instead of v1.5
- Contact shadows This happens a lot with the Unity engine, there are objects that usually never cast shadow or if they do they look ugly, such as small objects, grass, etc. I found a way to fix that, it might not seem like much but it will truly make visual difference for the better, adding more realism to the lighting... I will show juicy before/after pics of the difference when the update is up.
- Fix player clips Although I fixed 90% of the exploitable locations that would allow you to escape the map a member of the community was kind enough to show me I missed a few spots here and there so I'm gonna fix that.
- Occlusion issues There are objects that disappear when you look at them from certain angles, I'll fix that too.
- Official names for the maps I think it's about time I add actual names for the maps, so people can recognize and address them more easily.
FOR v1.5
- New maps Many of the original maps remain, and they need to go and be replaced with something new, something better, no matter how much I want to beautify them they just don't work for survival mode, I will replace at least two maps, how many more will I be able to change will depend on my schedule.
- Demo Campaign Level As previously mentioned, I will release a little demo level, it's not related to the actual campaign, it's mostly to test some mechanics I'm working on and to give you a little taste of what you can expect from the actual campaign. Don't expect a crazy lot, as I said, it's just a little demo, but it will definitely be a... fun experience :-)
- The new SCP The new SCP I've been teasing for a while will finally make an appearance, yay!
- New weapon I think it's time to add a new weapon right? The energy cannon will officially be part of the weapon set!
- Better sound effects for enemies and weapons Trust me, I know it looks as simple as just finding better sound effects but that's precisely the problem... finding them, I think I found someone willing to help me with this, a freelancer, so hopefully new, better sounds will be available for this update.
- Music I think adding background music in-game would be great, to add to the atmosphere and the player doesn't get bored as quick, you will obviously be able to enable/disable them for those who prefer a natural sound gameplay.
- New pause menu interface The pause menu looks awful... that's a fact. I want to redesign it into something new, something more A E S T H E T I C.
And... I think that's it, I might add a new thing here and there or change something else but I will let you all know about it by the time the update arrives,
Hope you liked this little heads up, have a great day/night everyone!
v1.2 - Unexpected turn of events
Sup everyone! Yep, I'm still alive!
Before I begin I will proudly announce the game has reached 62 downloads! I know, not that many, but I'm trilled nonetheless!
I'm still working on the update v1.5. However, I decided I'm gonna release a new update before v1.5 which will be v1.2.
Why? Simple, v1.5 is supposed to be an update to bring new things, not just fix stuff, and there are things in-game that need to be fixed. So here's the list of changes this new update will bring:
And last but not least!!!
It's too soon to add any campaign level, they are just not ready, HOWEVER, I decided I'm gonna throw a little demo in, mostly for fun and to test a few things the main campaign will have.
I warn you tho, it won't be easy, and not because of the enemies, there will be puzzles, dead ends and also some degree of spooky content, I want to remind you that SCP: Derelict is not only a SciFi FPS, but also a Horror game where guns won't be always the solution, so I'm gonna put some horror elements to the test as well.
Don't expect much tho, as I said, it's just a little demo, I might release more demos like that one in some updates, just for the heck of it, so please make sure to give me feedback throughout this process.
That's all, thank you for taking the time to read, have a great day/night everyone!
