• Unintentional access to some debugging functions has been removed (thanks to Dunkoro for the report).

ScreenPlay Build 28: A Major Leap Forward

The most anticipated update for our game, Build 28, is here and it's a big one! Yes, we've even got memes about how long it's taken us to get here floating around our Discord. Here are few of our favorite Build 28 memes from our community:

Writing this post feels huge because we've packed so much into Build 28 and we want to share every bit of it with you.

Let's dive in:

We've introduced a whole new in-game economy. Yes, directors, you read that right. Now you can manage card packs, craft cards, and make purchases from the in-game store using in-game currency. For now, real money transactions are off the table. We want you to focus on playing, having fun, and collecting awesome stuff.

Card packs are here! What's a digital collectible card game without the thrill of opening card packs? You can purchase card packs by gaining soft or hard currency on completely daily missions.

Crafting cards is now a thing. Cannot wait to get your favourite card? Just craft them directly using in-game hard currency.

Player now have Ranks, achieving by winning competitive PvP matches. In the next versions Ranks system will became deeper and yield more rewards!

We're introducing two in-game currencies: Tickets and Goldies. Players can get these in-game currencies as rewards for PvP matches and completing daily missions. Tickets allows you to buy card packs and Goldies is for buying cosmetics (such as unique deck covers, directors, movie sets, etc.), crafting cards and more. Remember, no real money involved yet. Just play, enjoy, and collect.

Customization options have exploded:

Choose from a variety of director avatars, including animated versions for that extra flair.

Movie sets let you express your directing style. Whether you're into horror, drama, or any other genre, we've got you covered.

Get unique, genre or movie-related card backs and deck covers to stand out.

But what about the cards themselves? We've added over a hundred new cards, bringing our total to a hefty collection. With 22 lead characters now available, there's plenty to explore.

New to ScreenPlay? All players will receive a starter set of cards, new Leads and several pre-constructed decks. By acquiring new cards you'll be able to expand the pre-constructed decks and build your own. The starter set leads help you get comfortable before moving on to more complex lead characters.

Another notable addition, we have also added a system to easily export your decklists and import decklists from online.

We've revamped the tutorial to make learning ScreenPlay easier and more fun. It's still a work in progress, with voiceovers and some polish to come, but it's a huge step up from our previous tutorial.

And there's more: cool new VFX for cards, updated card arts, new animations for high-value attacks, and unique entrance and max-out animations for lead characters.

For our Discord community and tournament participants, expect unique codes for rewards. And stay tuned for more community-driven tournaments. If you're not on our Discord yet, now's the time to join and claim your rewards.

Looking ahead, we're focused on speeding up the game, adding new content (card arts, VFX, SFX, and more), introducing a payment option for those who wish to support us, improving the matchmaking system, and adding PvE content.

Special thanks to our community members for reporting issues in the build, providing feedback and spreading the word to the world on your passion for ScreenPlay -- ThrillerNate, yarractheeln, MageArmour, Tougarashi, Dunkoro, Kram, Vomaa, DavidDistributed, Toaster404, Ienalaurence, JetmanSkye, Ammit, melfice, NatriOn, pixelet, Knusperpikachu, Kuchenlüge, pyrovoice, PeaceRibbon, Ettrian, Lavexis, Chappy, lyn, Canc, 209209, OldChap. (PS: If we forgot any name, let us know and will add them.)

Your support means the world to us. We're a small team, always open to feedback, ideas, and suggestions. Help us shape this game into something fun for everyone.

Lastly, with this update, we have to wipe your profiles. This is necessary given in previous version you had all cards already and it was designed for playtest experience. However, with the economy, players have to acquire cards, and your old decks would be invalid, so the best solution was to wipe the profiles. You start from a new player's POV. However, any rewards and cards you obtain from Build 28 will remain with you even on EA. This would be extremely rare for us to do any more profile wiping again. Thank you for your understanding.

Best,
The ScreenPlay Team

Version 27.7 Update

Fixes and improvements

  • Enhanced the game's full-screen mode to be borderless.
  • Fixed a bug where Jaw-Z broke the rules of narrative collecting, reported by member of our community server toaster404.
  • Fixed the problem of interaction between character abilities and stolen narrative, reported by member of our community server Xekon#8266.
  • Fixed few crashed related to the user interface.
  • Corrected the description of Pro-Profit Centurion and his legionnaires, thanks to our community server member yarractheeln.

Addressing a Notorious Crash

The persistent "Unable to get variable res from object XXXX" error has been a major point of discussion. Our gratitude goes out to toaster404 and Kram for their detailed reports.

This issue was traced back to the game engine. We have reported this to the engine developers and they've acknowledged it as a bug.

Currently, we've implemented a temporary fix. A complete resolution will follow with an upcoming engine update. A big thank you to our community for helping us identify these issues and for your continued patience.

Happy New Year! Update 27.6 Released

Season's Greetings, movie directors! Our latest update brings you a sleigh-load of improvements.

Bugfixes

Say goodbye to the freezing issue in the tutorial, and thanks for flagging it!

Plus, we've ironed out several gameplay bugs, particularly those tricky corner cases.

Cards rebalancing

  • Roast Comic Frog lead now gains 2 Narrative Points at the start of a scene.

  • Jaw-Z lead now gains 2 Narrative Points for a successful performance.

  • Pro-Profit Centurion character now enters on the 4th frame.

Matchmaking tuning

To enhance your gaming experience, our matchmaking system initially tries to find you a fellow player for a few minutes. During this wait, you'll see a pop-up offering two choices: either jump into a game with a bot or keep waiting for a real player. You also have the option to team up with a friend. If a player match isn't found after a certain period, the system might pair you with a bot for that round, but will try for a real player in the next. To make the most of your experience, we encourage you to invite friends to join the game. Playing with friends not only makes the game more enjoyable but also helps build our community. Plus, check out our Discord for PvP hours to play when our player base is most active.

Visuals

We've added some visual flair to the game. Enjoy the new flat turtle animation, plus fireworks for the victory screen!

Deckbuilding

We're gradually introducing more intricate rules:

This update adds deckbuilding guidelines:

  • Minimum 40 cards in a deck;
  • Include 2 or 3 lead cards;
  • Leads' genres dictate other card genres;
  • Amount of copies is determined by each card's rarity (number of dots in bottom left corner).

Up to three copies for Bartender Hydra, four for Ben Bones' Edits.

Heads up: Your deck might need some tweaking to comply with the new rules. We've updated our preconstructed decks accordingly. Happy building!

Hotfix 27.5

Thanks to everyone who played with their favorite streamers in the past days, and, of course, thanks to Amazonian and DeraJN themselves. You've highlighted several issues.

  • The order of interaction is no longer broken when units enter the set. For example, Maximus could share the set with another lead for some time.
  • Lead animation no longer plays on the backstage if they complete a story arc through receiving a free narrative.
  • Simultaneous entry of units into a set (for example, with Pro-profit Centurion) if there is Firearm Fanatic on the set will no longer cause problems.
  • Fixed potential bot softlock.
  • Minor text correction for BIRD-E.

27.4 is here!
