Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker Free DLC is Out Now!
Hello everyone,
The time has come: Throes of the Watchmaker — the free DLC for Sea of Stars — is out now!
We spent nearly two incredible years crafting this free DLC as a heartfelt thank-you to our fans. Your support made it possible, and we hope this bonus final adventure for Sea of Stars will bring you joy.
To celebrate the launch, Sea of Stars is currently available at its lowest price since release, with a limited-time discount of 35% off!
If you want to help in bringing more eyeballs to this circus-themed romp, the best way is always to leave a comment on the trailer on YouTube, and share [our posts] on social media.
How To Access The DLC?
1. The DLC is not included as an automatic update. To get started, you’ll need to manually download it from Steam or your console’s storefront.
2. Throes of the Watchmaker is a post-game adventure, so you must open up a save file where you have rolled the end credits at least once to unlock access.
3. After meeting the requirement above, return to the world map in-game. You’ll receive a new prompt via a message-in-a-bottle: It’s a message from Hortence urging you to return to the Vespertine and check on Keenathan.
When prompted with: “Hortence sounds really worried. Should we visit the crew right now?” Choose Yes to continue.
4. You’ll be transported to the top deck of the Vespertine. Head below deck and speak with the pirate crew to officially begin the Throes of the Watchmaker side-adventure.
5. Malevolent spectacle awaits!
Italian Localization
Great news for our Italian friends!
Italian localization is now available for both the Sea of Stars main adventure and the free DLC.
Alright, Time to Play Now!
This release marks the full realization of everything we set out to build — first with Dawn of Equinox, and now with this DLC. What a journey it’s been over the last few years! We’re incredibly grateful for your support at every step of the way.
We hope that this farewell letter to our dream project will bring you joy, and that you will allow it to tell you one last time, from all of us: THANK YOU!
All the love, -SaboTeam

MALEVOLENT SPECTACLE AWAITS
Since it’s been a long time since our latest update on the DLC, here’s a recap of what you can expect from Throes of the Watchmaker.
Over 8 hours of completely new Areas, Music, Dungeons, Mini-Games, Enemies, Bosses, and Puzzles
Journey into a magical miniature clockwork world where a plethora of oddities and wonders await. The world of Horloge is filled with unique environments, NPCs, enemies and dungeons. This thing is packed, with Throes of the Watchmaker boasting the same budget for cinematics that the main game had, allowing us to richly realize key narrative moments and deliver this new tale with even more density and production value.
And of course, Sabotage’s composer Eric W. Brown returns alongside guest composer Yasunori Mitsuda to bring a completely fresh set of tracks!
New Playable Classes for Valere and Zale
The world of Horloge plays by different rules, and for their magic to manifest, the Solstice Warriors will need to adapt. Zale will tap into his agility to become a Juggler, while Valere will harness her balance to dazzle as an Acrobat. Playing to the circus-themed curse, they will unlock a completely new set of attacks, damage types, skills and combos.
New Playable Character: Arty
Artificer joins the party! The friendly engineer robot will finally unlock the laser-shooting capabilities of his construct, and join Valere and Zale in the fight to save Horloge.
Couch Co-Op With Up To 3 Players
The couch co-op mode that was added to Sea of Stars via the Dawn of Equinox update in November 2024 is also available for Throes of the Watchmaker. It allows up to three players to engage in traversal and combat with a “Co-Op timed hits” mechanic!

The Dawn of Equinox Update is Now Available!
Hello everyone,
The Dawn of Equinox update is available to download for free on all platforms, right now!
Here’s the new trailer, showcasing some of the main changes coming with the update:
We ultimately see Dawn of Equinox as the community’s gift to us - the overwhelming support you’ve all shown us ever since we first announced Sea of Stars helped give our team the chance to return to the project, and present a refined version of it including everything we ever hoped this adventure to be.
There's even more in store in the upcoming DLC Throes of the Watchmaker, but in the meantime, we couldn’t be happier with how Sea of Stars feels with this major update.
DAWN OF EQUINOX UPDATE OVERVIEW
In case you missed it, the key changes were presented comprehensively during a livestream a few weeks ago.
3 Player Couch Co-op
Sea of Stars’ adventure is now playable in its entirety by up to three players, with allies traversing the world together and mastering a new Co-op Timed Hits combat mechanic. Yes, what was initially presented as a more limited “Single Player +” mode has evolved into a full-fledged co-op experience!
Combat 2.0
The addition of Mystery Locks brings a new gameplay loop around revealing the ways to break the spells of new enemies entering the fray. Along with "Reveal" functions added to some of the special skills, Combo Points now remain after battle, offering new ways to open certain encounters, or test different damage types on enemies to reveal their locks.
A comprehensive balancing pass has also been done to reflect both these new changes and player feedback since launch.
A revamped prologue
Implementing combat for the young versions of our heroes, the updated flow does away with the flashback structure to begin in their childhood directly including action in the prologue.
Bonus Cinematic Scene
An entirely new cutscene has been added to accentuate a pivotal moment in the original adventure, referred to as "Paths on Water".
Speedrunner Mode Relic
This new Relic was designed with the help of the speedrunning community, activating a range of features helpful for those looking to set a new personal best or world record.
Difficulty Presets
Three difficulty settings are now available when starting a new game, which are presets using the game's Relics. New Relics have also been added, some for quality of life, and others for difficulty adjustments.
Improved Parrot Relic
The secret-tracking parrot has learned a few new tricks to better assist players tracking down overlooked challenges and collectibles.
Québécois Localization
The long-awaited, comprehensive French Canadian translation for our Québec folks is now available!
A number of other general updates, bug fixes and QoL improvements spanning Sea of Stars’ full campaign are also part of the Dawn of Equinox update.
THAT’S IT FOR NOW
We’re grateful for all the love and support the game has received over the past year, which made it possible for us to fully realize our vision. We hope this will give fans of the game plenty of reasons to revisit it while waiting for the upcoming DLC Throes of the Watchmaker, coming Spring 2025.

Sea of Stars: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho Is Now Available for Pre-Orders
Hello everyone!
As you may know, the team is fully focused on production of the DLC at the moment, as well as the Couch Co-Op mode for Sea of Stars. While we’re very happy with the pace of development on both fronts, it’s still too early to reveal specific details for those yet. However, we do have a fun announcement for you all today.
The Sea of Stars physical art book is printing as we speak!
Sea of Stars: The Art of Bryce Kho is a 272-page collection of concept art from the game, featuring over 90+ illustrations of concepts for playable characters, NPCs, enemies, bosses, and environments. The book also showcases the creative process through excerpts of conversations between concept artist Bryce Kho and creative director Thierry Boulanger.
It’s published in partnership with 3dtotal, and we couldn’t have dreamed of a partner better aligned with the vision we had for it. To say that we’re very happy with the final product would be an understatement. We hope you’ll love it too!
Pre-orders are now open over at 3dtotal.com, and include free shipping in the US and the UK! The official release is coming on May 28th.
SEA OF STARS: THE CONCEPT ART OF BRYCE KHO, PUBLISHED BY 3DTOTAL
3dtotal is a publisher dedicated to delivering high-quality publications that offer creative insight, expert advice, and essential motivation to artists and enthusiasts. The 3dtotal Publishing audience is very fond of character and concept digital art, making it an obvious partner for this beloved project of ours.
Sea of Stars: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho will have a high production value with hardback cover, foil finish on the front cover, and top quality paper.
It’s the ultimate resource to admire over 90 illustrations of concept art from all parts of the game. It’s also an intimate window into the many design discussions that took place between Thierry and Bryce during production.
Bryce Kho
“The iterations and conversations in this Art Book are a genuine look at Bryce and I’s process, and the daily conversations that brought the amazing cast of Sea of Stars to life. Looking back as I read through the final version of this book, it only reaffirmed one thing: this collaboration has been the stuff of dreams, and I couldn’t have picked a better artist.” - Thierry (Excerpt from the art book’s introduction)
In case you don’t know him already, Bryce Kho has been part of the Saboteam as lead concept artist since 2020. Known for his colorful and complex, retro-anime inspired illustrations, Bryce’s art style was a natural fit for the Sea of Stars universe. We look forward to continuing to work with him on our next project.
