August Content Patch - August 25th, 2016

HERE'S THE AUGUST CONTENT PATCH NOTES!





    NEW STUFF!

  • Character Taunts have been added to the game!  Taunt other players by unlocking taunts, holding the alt button and selecting a taunt from your quick bar.  Obtain taunts at cosmetic vendors in Dominion Outposts.  Everyone starts with 4 default taunts, the Salute, Facepalm, Wave and Hands up! 
  • Trading has been added to the game.  Users can now trade items with each other by walking up to another player and holding the E button.
  • 5 novice and 5 veteran Australian servers have been added
  • 3 new legendary weapons are now available from Weapon Boxes!  The
  • Crypt Keeper assault rifle, the Demoralizer rocket launcher and the Spirit Breaker sniper rifle!  
  • The new MXZ5 assault rifle is now spawning in the world in Mercenary, Specops and Elite versions
  • The new CR-IZU sub machine gun is now spawning in the world in Mercenary, Specops and Elite versions
  • New weapon skins can be obtained via the Foundation Skins bag now available at the weapons vendor for Starlight Coins!
  • New cosmetic Dominion Enforcer pants and body have been added and can be obtained by opening the Cosmetic Box 1

    OPTIMIZATIONS!


  • A stutter issue related to terrain has been identified and resolved
  • Many new graphical optimization updates


    GAMEPLAY FIXES!


  • Flashlight blinding effect has been reduced to be more balanced

  • A second fire escape has been added to one of the tall buildings located in Mistyvale
  • A bug where flashlights appeared on for some players, but off for others has been fixed to be properly synced
  • Due to aliens at roadblocks and blockaids all lengthy repair timers have been reduced
  • Fix to a bug that could sometimes cause a desync thus causing a player to no longer deal any damage
  • Rocket Launcher damage has been slightly reduced
  • Bug with mines/traps death message leading players to believe they got killed from thousands of meters away has been fixed
  • Text about your death including weapon type and distance has been added to the death screen


Hotfix - August 17th, 2016



HERE'S THE HOT FIX NOTES FOR TODAY!




  • 7.62 M43 is now effective out to 70/120 meter range to be in line with 5.56 ammo
  • Cooked food cooldowns have been reduced slightly to be more in line with other food items
  • Group UI now shows your place in the group numerically
  • The triangle over group members heads now displays your number so teammates know who you are
  • Major optimization fixes for stutter & frame drops in combat
  • Material fixes for edges of buildings that were not making any noise when stepped on
  • A bug was found with the corpse grinder pivot location causing it to sometimes be placed underneath terrain and this has been fixed
  • Collision Fixes for some enterable buildings that should smooth out shooting near edges
  • Fortifications box no longer spawns inside orange loot crates
  • Roadblocks and Uplink Stations now have alien spawns at them
  • Bleeding/suicide deaths now reward the player tp get the last hit within 15 seconds the PK rating IE Player X shoots you, and you jump off the roof to your death or bleed out within 15 seconds, Player X gets the kill PK rating for your death
  • Fixed a bug related to swapping backbacks
  • A stutter issue on low settings related to the sky box has been identified and resolved
  • Shotgun buckshot damage has been slightly reduced

Hey everyone!

Over the last week we've been working on coming up with a plan for issues that have been bothering our community, and today I want to talk to you about our overall plans for Shattered Skies other than new content and expansions that are coming to the game.

1. PK System

PROBLEM: As many of you pointed out, our initial balancing of the PK System is not providing the intended results - veteran players are afraid of losing significant amounts of PK to the new players, and are afraid of engaging in battles because of that. Solo players are afraid of groups of "non grouped" players, as they will lose more PK than they can get in the best case scenario. Also as of right now we have only one set of cosmetic items and some of the players already have reached that.

SOLUTION: We're working on redesigning PK System, to make it more "fair' so to say for both new and veteran players, and making sure it's dynamic enough, so players will not feel they're missing out on gameplay. We're planning on adding few more "tiers" of cosmetic items to highlight your PK Rating in game. While we do not have final solution to PK rebalancing yet, one of the ideas is that you only loose or gain more than 1 PK points only in case if you're in same bracket as other player. For example let say player with PK Rating of 300 will shoot and kill player with 2000. One will lose 1 point, other will get 1 point. Another example - player with 560 PK will fight player with 680 PK. One of the will lose let say 3 points and another will get 3 points. And at extreme lets take two players with 2100 and 2300PK. One will lose let say 10 points, another will gain 10 points. This way system will be more balanced, yet allowing players with higher PK rating to fight other high PK players and getting substantial rewards.

One of the part of the solution will be removing "team handicap" for PK calculations, but once again it will be done only as part of overall system overhaul.

We also the entertain idea of letting players to access special vendor that sells cool items based on PK Rating.



2. FPS issues and micro stutters.

SOLUTION: Those are newly introduced engine bugs and they're our highest priority to fix right now. They have nothing to do with optimizations, system settings, or system configurations. They're related to interactions between Directx layer of windows and video driver. Bottom line - we're on top of it and hope to have it solved ASAP.



3. Activities - For both solo players and groups.

PROBLEM: Number of players feel that the game doesn't have enough activities and think that the Reactor is the only activity worth doing.

SOLUTION: We're planning on introducing new activities that can be "activated" by solo players, reworking how comm stations and road blocks are working, also introducing more activities in the outer parts of the map for players who wants to avoid congested "center of the map". For example we'll introduce random "mini reactor" events through the map, as well as other timed activities happening on the map. We will clearly mark them on the minimap, so players will know where to go. Several events can be active at same time at different parts of the map, creating opportunity for players.

This will probably be the most complex thing to add to the game in the near term, but we do believe it will improve gameplay.



4. SOLO Spawning timer.

SOLUTION: timer will be lowered.



5. SOLO SPAWNING on top of player who killed you and using your frag bag to revenge.

PROBLEM: This is not exactly a problem, but still need to be addressed.

SOLUTION: We're tweaking our spawning algorithm to make sure that you'll be spawned at some distance from both your place of death and location of player who killed you.



6. Content and mid game for looting new guns.

PROBLEM: It looks like it's too easy to obtain rarest guns for elitist players, yet nearly impossible for average player, removing that goal.

SOLUTION: First of all we're adding ability to convert common weapon parts into rares and will change economy balance on converting rares into Legendary and how many legendries you need to get one legendary weapon box. We also planning on introducing more random rare and legendary weapon drops for players who is willing to explore less populated areas of the map. Overall there'll be some rebalancing of the gun spawns in game.



7. Introduction of new content

SOLUTION: While this is not exactly a problem, but once again, we decided it'll be more fun to introduce one new gun every week, instead of introducing 3-4 guns per month in one update. Same goes to cosmetic items, etc...

Hotfix - August 9th, 2016


HERE'S THE HOT FIX FOR TODAY!




  • Rare weapon parts can now be converted to Legendary Weapon Parts at Materials vendors in Dominion Outposts
  • Aliens can now spawn and harass players on the billboard rooftop building in Misty and Wolfpine
  • Loading process optimizations that should result in quicker load times and less memory usage
  • Minimap has been updated to reflect the town in the bottom right

Patch Notes - August 5th, 2016

HERE'S THE PATCH NOTES FOR TODAY!




  • Cobra-X now has a 14 round magazine, up from 10
  • Weapon Durability bar removed
  • Weapons no longer lose durability when fired and because of this repair has been removed
  • When a weapon reaches 0 slots remaining it will be destroyed upon death. Slots function as 'lives' for the weapon and number of times it will drop (legendary still drops at 1 life)
  • Upon death, users are all given a 'Quick Frag Bag' to help get them back on their feet and into the pvp action. This bag comes with a generic assault rifle, some bullets and a medical supply.
  • You can only have 1 Quick Frag bag and if you die with one in your inventory, you will not be given another. You are only allowed to have 1 in your Global Vault to prevent stacking. These are meant to be opened upon acquisition
  • A new small town ready to be explored has been added to the map just south of the military base
  • Novice Servers now allow anyone who has less than 5 hours played to play on them, regardless of level
  • Novice players can now play on veteran servers if they join on friend via the friend system
  • C.I.V medkits are now more common world spawns due to them being part of the quick frag bag
  • Fortification boxes are now more common world spawns

  • Bug causing Lady Silva to drop on death before charges have been exhausted has been fixed
  • Vsync has been fixed
  • Material types have been updated for many objects at Uplink and Roadblocks to now have properly have impact and footstep sounds
  • Material types have been updated for many objects at Jay's Resort to now have properly have impact and footstep sounds
  • The motel roof no longer is enterable and thus the rare spawn that was inside of it has been moved to a nearby cabinet
  • RPG7 Warheads are now color coded to denote rarity
  • ACX10 description updated to show what type of bullet this weapon uses
  • 0 health display rounding bug has been fixed
  • Death screen has been updated
  • Attachments row of locks at the bottom is fixed




July content drop and new features coming to the game

Hey everyone,

It's been exactly a week since we launched Shattered Skies on Steam. Over the last month, we've added over 50,000 new players to our community and we thank you all for your support and hope you have been enjoying the game.

Today's Content Drop includes:




  • The RPG7 rocket launcher is now spawning in the world as part of today's new content drop!
  • The ACX10 assault rifle in the following versions: Mercenary, Specops and Elite is now spawning in the world as part of today's new content!
  • Lord Deimos is a new Legendary Assault rifle that can be obtained through a Legendary Weapon Box as part of today's new content!
  • Lady Silva is a new Legendary Semi-automatic Shotgun that can be obtained through a Legendary Weapon Box as part of today's new content!
  • A new Weapon Skins box is available at the gear vendor found within Dominion Outposts in exchange for Starlight coins as part of today's new content!

  • Ammunition for the RPG7 is now spawning in the world as part of today's new content!
  • Negative reputation is no longer applied for any MG uplink stations, Dominion blockades or destroying of Chaos Objects. You can now freely progress with all 3 factions without any negative drawbacks
  • Added fatal shot kill marker for when a bullet kills a player that is red (regular hit markers are white)
  • Attachment UI now allows you to preview weapon skins you do not have!

Patch Notes - July 27, 2016

Hey everyone,

Here's the patch notes for today! Many fixes and updates! :)

-Level requirements for weapons have changed: Generic & Cog are now level 1, Mercenary level 5, Specops level 10, Elite level 15 and Legendary weapons available to players at level 20.
-There are now Novice servers for new players that are level 1-14. This is a great place to learn the game and not fight any players using Elite or Legendary weapons.
-There are now Veteran servers for players level 15+.
-Landmines have 2.5 meter minimum radius between placement
-Landmines have a significantly smaller explosion radius
-Large mines were found to be doing 2x the intended damage and this is now fixed
-There is now a proper error message when you are try to loot an item and you do not have enough available weight to carry it
-There is a new sound played when your character dies
-Grenade explosive radius has been drastically reduced
-Laser was not displaying properly on one of the side rail lasers, this has been fixed
-Explosive damage now properly works against aliens
-Spamming crouch no longer allows the player to move silently while jogging/sprinting
-Added weight check when opening a reward bag, if you cannot carry the items, it will not allow you to open it (make sure you have enough bagslots available)
-Added weight check when doing vendor trades to prevent items dropping on ground (make sure you have enough bagslots available)
-Spikemat barricade can no longer be stacked to the heavens
-Faction Reputation is now capped at 0 and can no longer go negative to prevent confusion
-Aliens should no longer be able to spawn directly on top of a solo player (It will calculate your location and move it at minimum 20 meters from you)
-Attachments now display stats
-Player level display upon mouse-over has been removed to prevent confusion in which new players thought a higher level player was more difficult to kill or did more damage which is not the case as levels only affect if you can use a rare gun or not. Player level has no affect on health, armor or damage.
-Reload Audio now syncs for Ultra LC9, -Buckshot ammo for shotguns deals slightly more damage
-Low food and water no longer causes loss of health. Maintaining your food and water at 75%+ will provide you with regeneration, but running out of them will no longer injure your character
-Explosives now properly check against object collision and no longer pass damage through walls
-All newly unboxed legendary weapons now have 5 lives max
-Language filter has been updated to remove some of the more "ridiculous" word filters that did not make sense
-Campfire craft is now level 1 instead of level 3
-All craftable food is now level 1
-Basic Gun Skins 1 box will be appearing tomorrow (7-28-16) at the gear vendor for the new content drop
-Two new Legendary weapons Lord Deimos and Lady Silva can be unboxed inside legendary weapon boxes tomorrow! (7-28-16)
-The ACX10 Mercenary, Specops and Elite versions will begin spawning tomorrow (7-28-16)
-The RPG7 Elite will begin spawning tomorrow (7-28-16)

Patch Notes - July 22, 2016

Hey everyone,

Here's the patch notes for today! :)

-We are currently working on adding some Novice Servers for new players! We have ordered additional physical hardware to support these special servers and unfortunately we cannot deploy it before the weekend. We expect to have it available to you early next week! This will be a great place for new users to play the game and learn!
-The friends list is now working properly and no longer causes players to crash! Add your friends and join their server using the friends list now!
-Placing landmines/traps on top of each other no longer works. They now have a .5 meter minimum radius between landmines.
-Landmines now play a brief audio sound when you step on it before it explodes
-Landmines now deal damage to group members to prevent exploit related to them
-Unloading a weapon / opening a giftbox / opening a lootbag / drinking / eat / filling objects no longer causes inventory to refresh to top of screen
-Food and Water depletion rates have been standardized. Food and Water now equally depletes over 45 minutes from full to empty regardless of idle, jogging or sprinting character state
-Legendary assault rifles, snipers, sub-machine guns, shotguns and light machine guns next patch will have 5 repairs max, down from 10. JUST A HEADS UP! This will not affect your old Legendaries, only newly found Legendaries as we prep to add new ones to the game.
-Legendary Pistols now have 3 repairs max, down from 10

Patch Notes - July 21, 2016

Hey everyone,

Here's the patch notes for today! :)

-Fixed crash when exiting the map
-Fixed crash that could happen when loading back into the game
-Potential fix for bug where gun appears to be shooting barricades/other gameplay meshes (please report this if it still happens)
-New crosshair has been implemented (smaller, better looking)
-If you experience a blackscreen when loading into the map, just wait, do not alt-f4 etc, it is rendering everything, be patient as this depends on how fast your computer is.
