Offline Local Multiplayer Update! + lots of UX tweaks and bug fixes

I'm super excited to share this MEGA update with y'all!

Sacramento Gamers Expo went really well and I got tons of great feedback and was inspired with lost of new ideas on how to improve the gameplay experience, and I'm releasing a big set of those changes today ːsteamhappyː

In addition to now being able to play locally with up to 4 players (no need to be connected to the internet anymore!), this update includes:

  • Support for more controllers such as Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, PowerA Switch Controller, and Pokken Tournament Controller, plus many, many more
  • A reorganized menu for choosing the game type
  • Fixed deadzone problems and accidental double tap dashes on controllers
  • Changed the mall level to remove janky stairs and make it easier to get around
  • When someone is about to win, all items on the ground can be picked up by anybody! This eliminates the "oh no, I don't have any items" problem
  • Indicators of what items are yours and who owns what items in local multiplayer are more clear and readable (and more obvious and easy to find)
  • +/-1 indicators when receiving/giving items
  • Now at least one item per player with remain in play to limit players from having no items
  • Improved local multiplayer stats section to be easier to read and understand
  • Player who is winning now very clearly indicated with new visuals, effects and sound
  • Fixed bug where jumping after bouncing off a spring would slow you down
  • Fixed bots moving erratically, now they smooth and silky :)
  • Fixed camera not zooming quick enough and players going off screen in local multiplayer

I have a lot more updates coming, including new levels and characters. So stay tuned for that! Hope y'all have fun!

Local Multiplayer is here! +lots of tweaks, updates and fixes

Hello, generous humans! I've got a big update for you, available now, which adds support for playing with up to 4 players on the same computer! You and 3 friends can all play together online, either in a private lobby or the public one. That's right, everyone can play online from just one computer! In addition, the game will now support Steam Remote Play Together, so you can share the fun with anyone you like, near or far!

Y'all asked for it, and I'm happy to be able to make this happen for y'all. This is a huge update and I think it will add a lot of value to your purchase of the game. You can play with others either using up to 4 controllers, or you can use the keyboard for player 1 and up to 3 controllers for the other players.

In addition to that, I've also made a lot of improvements to the server, improved performance of the game, fixed some bugs, made some small tweaks to the camera movement, and updated the music with some new lines and more even volume. You can see the detailed list of changes at the bottom.

As usual, I am happy to hear any feedback you have on how the game is progressing and anything you'd like to see. Message me on socials or reply to this or any post, or in the forums. If you are going to be in the Sacramento, CA area during Dec 18-19, I'll be at the Sac Gamers Expo demoing Shell Out Showdown in person. Stop by and say hi, I'd love to chat with you and play a few rounds!

Thanks so much for all the support and I sincerely hope you enjoy this update. ^_^

Here are the detailed updates for this release:

  • Local Multiplayer with up to 4 players
  • Fixed dropped packets to server and improved server efficiency and throughput
  • Tweaked and fixed incorrect rendering of some Effects from the Shop

  • Fixed overlays sometimes persisting between sections of the game
  • Smoothed out camera movement so it feels less jarring
  • Fixed soft lock if game loses network connection at the beginning of a match
  • Reduced sensitivity of dashing by double pressing a direction to reduce accidental dashes
  • Improved rendering performance to work better on lower powered machines (tested on an 8-year old laptop at 60 FPS)
  • Now always returns players to lobby after a match instead of going to the main menu
  • Small tweaks to most of the in-game songs, a new part in one of the songs, and better balanced music volume

Update Notes for Oct 13th
