Shrouded in Sanity: Freebirth
Shrouded in Sanity: Freebirth has arrived!
Hello there folks!
Shrouded in Sanity: Freebirth has arrived - that's right, now you can slay Eldritch monsters and other Lovecraftian horrors to your hearts content without even paying for the privilege! Delightful!
So for those of you that want a hearty introduction to the series, there couldn't be a better time to do it than now. Shrouded in Sanity: Freebirth contains the full base game - that's including the full story; from beginning to end. All enemies and bosses are also included.
The only things removed for this free version are the extra content updates added since its release - that's things like; playing as the 4 Knights, New game plus, the boss rush mode, and boss clash.
So, we hope this will give you all the chance to get yourself acquainted with this Lovecraftian world. And if you enjoy it, why not upgrade to the full version Shrouded in Sanity (full version), or support us with our latest release, and sequel game - Usurper.
Either way, thanks for sticking around and supporting us with our projects - we hugely appreciate it!

Usurper (Sequel to SiS) is out now into Early Access!
Hello folks!
Usurper is out now into Early Access, but first, please read this disclaimer about Early Access before continuing, or buying Usurper in its current state:
DISCLAIMER
Since this is an Early Access game, we remind you that whilst the entire story is complete, there are a lot of features missing or imcomplete. Therefore, if you wish to play the full feature-complete game first time, we suggest you wait until Usurper comes out of Early Access.
We will NOT be increasing the price of the game once it comes out of Early Access, so you don't need to worry about the cost when deciding when to buy the game. We'd much rather you bought the version of the game you will be happiest with. During Usurper's time in Early Access, we expect there to be a host of balancing issues, particularly due to different stat builds. So if you want a more complete experience, please wait until the full game is released - we genuinely don't mind!
A final thing we'd like to point out is that we DO have a solid and specific plan of what we will be implementing when during Early Access, as well as a history of finishing a game in Early Access.
For a brief synopsis of features to come, please do read the updated EA statement on our Usurper Steam store page. If you'd like even more info, the easiest way to contact us is via our Discord server (find the link at the bottom of this post).
ABOUT EARLY ACCESS
So if you're still interested in the Early Access version of Usurper or wish to add it to your wishlist, here's the link to the Steam Store Page
We really hope you enjoy the Early Access version of Usurper, and continue to support us as we add more and more content to it over the next 8-12 weeks. If you decide to buy Usurper during Early Access, we would be really grateful if you could send us any bug reports/suggestions/comments. The whole point of Usurper going through Early Access is to use customer feedback to make the game better, fix balancing issues, and grow the game according to what you would all like to see (where feasible of course).
UPDATES DURING EARLY ACCESS
+ Game updates are to be expected every other day. + Bugfixes will occur at any given point during the week, depending on when bugs are found and how easy they are to fix.
+ There will be a weekly update report in the form of a Steam announcement (with a set format to get changes and patch notes across quickly)
+ Our Discord server (link below) will be the easiest and most convenient place to contact us

FINALLY...
A big thank you to everyone that has patiently waited for this day, we could not do it without you. We hope to see your feedback either in the relevant Steam thread, or in Discord!

Fan Art Competition - The Results!
Hello everyone!
It's the moment you've been waiting for - the results of the fan art competition are in!
Just before we announce the winners, a HUGE thank you to everyone that entered the competition. We hope you all enjoyed taking part, and we both genuinely found it incredibly difficult choosing the winners - despite there being only 6 entries. There was a very high standard of entries, not only in terms of art ability, but also in terms of imagination and creativity. Put it this way - we sat down for 45 minutes to debate who the winners would be - it was not an easy task!
And so the winners are...
Without further ado, here are the winners, with links to their art, and our reasoning behind the decisions further below:
1st place: VulpusAlbus - SiS Cartoon 2nd place: BenWolfers - Shrouded in Beach 3rd place: Toanterror - Shrouded in Sanity
1st place - VulpusAlbus - Shrouded in Sanity Cartoon
We absolutely loved the creativity in this one! It was a very different kind of submission to the others, which made it stand out - perhaps in a way we were not expecting, which made it all the more appealing. The plasticene style won us over, and made us smile in delight! You can tell Vulpus put in a lot of effort and played to their strengths, resulting in a really unique and creative bit of work. Well done!
A really fun take on SiS - what's not to love?! Saragat, wide-eyed in swimwear, whilst in the background what we can only presume to be one-half of the "love couple" from the manor is being chased by a maid. Fantastic! It also has more neat references - the revolver, and the pocketwatch to name just two. All in all, a lot of fun - and it made us smile a heck of a lot! Well done!
What can we say? Beautiful. Yeah. That about sums this one up! Seriously gorgeous artwork. It conjures up the story well; blood on the blade, the death screen via the pocketwatch, and then there's the whole beckoning glyph. The attention to detail, and sheer time it must've taken to create this makes this a really solid 3rd place. A really lovely bit of art that is worthy of being cover art. Once again, beautiful! Well done!
To All Entrants
Once again, huge congratulations to the winners, but also a really hearty pat on the back to all those that entered. You all showed a lot of effort and made us both smile with joy at your fan art. We hope you all enjoyed taking part, and really hope none of you leave feeling disheartened. Please feel free to upload your fan art onto the artwork section of Shrouded in Sanity on Steam!
IMPORTANT
To all entrants, Steve or Jam will be sending your prizes via PM either on Steam or Discord, so please make sure you have enabled communication/direct messaging if you haven't already. We will also take your details of the gravestone or pet reward this way.
Prizes will be distributed either later today or whenever we get a private venue to exchange them.
Don't forget, everyone that took part gets a key to the SiS OST, whether you won or not!
Closing words
We really hope you enjoyed that competition - we certainly did - even if judging was difficult!
For those that still want to send in fan art, please do so! We absolutely squeel in delight at seeing it.
You can either upload fan art to the artwork tabs on either game on Steam, or even post it in our Discord server. As a rule of thumb, Steve and Jam are usually on there from 10am - 10pm GMT/UTC+1 every day - so drop in and say hi!
And that's a wrap - see ya next time!

It's Competition Time! (w/ prizes of course)
Hello everyone!
Alright, time for a bit of fun! As a token of our appreciation to our awesome fanbase (that's you guys and gals), we want to give you all a fun little competition (with prizes - we'll get to that in a bit) to get your teeth stuck into.
As developers, we love it when people enjoy the game so much that they make fan art. It absolutely thrills us when people spend their own spare time drawing what they love (and maybe even what they hated!) about our games. And so we figured "Well, instead of getting people to 'like and share a post' in order to enter a competition... let's get them to be creative and show us their fan art!". To make things even more creative, should you win first prize, your very own design (subject of which is mentioned later) will make it into the game itself!
About the competiton:
1) This will not just be judged on a "who can draw the best?" basis. We want to open this up to as many people as possible, regardless of artistic ability. We don't want people to feel left out, or feel they couldn't possibly enter... so whilst artistic talent will account for a small %age of the points, we'll also be picking the top three entries under terms such as "creativity, interpretation, uniqueness" etc.
3) You can post your artwork anywhere that's convenient for you (i.e. Our Discord, Twitter, on our Steam forums, Imgur, FlickR, your own website etc.). The only proviso for entering is that you send us a link to it in the comments on this announcement. If you'd rather send us a DM through Steam, you can do.
4) The fanart can be of either Shrouded in Sanity or Usurper. You could even do something Lovecraftian, although we'd prefer it if it related to either game since that's more fitting.
5) The submission date for this will be Sunday the 3rd of September at 10pm GMT/UTC+1 (Sorry about the +1, British Summer Time and all that) So that means you have just a little shy of 2 weeks. We know it's not a long deadline, but we can't leave it too much later.
The prizes:
It wouldn't be a competition without prizes...
1st place: - Your very own pet design to be implemented into Usurper - 3x Steam keys of Usurper for you and 2 friends
- 3x Steam keys for Shrouded in Sanity OST DLC
2nd place: - Special gravestone in-game for one person (that sounded more morbid than we realised initially)
- 2x Steam keys for Usurper - 2x Steam keys for Shrouded in Sanity OST DLC
3rd place: - 1x Steam key for Usurper - 1x Steam key for Shrouded in Sanity OST DLC
Everyone that entered (that's right, everyone!):
- 1x Steam key for Shrouded in Sanity OST DLC (We will only give one key per person, regardless of the number of submissions by that person)
Important Notes:
- All prizes will be given out as soon as such items are available (so after Early Access, and once the game and DLC has been fully released). Since the game and DLC has not yet been released, Steam handles keys as if they are pre-purchases.
- For the pet reward, we will not use a design lifted from anything that already exists, or anything that bears a significant enough resemblance. We also won't be using things that could be deemed offensive, sexually suggestive (within reason, I mean Lovecraft and all that can be slightly suggestive at times)
- If you have an idea for the pet, but don't know how to draw it, Steve is happy to take on the challenge. He will obviously have to copy and ammend any drawing himself anyway, so this is no extra bother.
- For the gravestone reward, we will not accept profanities or content of an offensive nature. We reserve the right to use a little discretion and may ask you to revise if necessary.
- We will allow multiple submissions per person, but you can only win one place (i.e. you can't come 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd, or 1st and 3rd). That would be unfair.
- We will not allow a group submission (we can't split the prizes between mutliple people, but you can of course share any prizes you win with others).
Finally...
So that about sums it up. Go forth and think about what you could draw, and like we said - don't worry too much about your artistic talents. All we ask for is a decent amount of effort and thought.
Don't forget about our official Pugware Discord Server, where you can conveniently find out anything you've ever wanted to know about SiS or Usurper - There are dedicated rooms for updates, spoilers, general chat and more. Both Steve and Jam are usually around between 10am - 10pm GMT/UTC+1 every day.
We can't wait to see your fan art, and the very best of luck!

Devlog #3 Progress report.
Good news, development on Usurper is going according to plan.
-All critical areas are now finished, and fully accessible ingame.
As mentioned previously all optional areas will be added during the EA process.
-All critical enemies are now fully animated, and imported into the game. Their AI is not complete but this is exactly as planed. Currently there will be 30 different enemies in Usurper at EA launch and a further 15 to be added during EA.
-Work began on the bosses, there will be 8 bosses in the base game on the plot critical path, one of them with 3 entirely different forms. A further 4 bosses will be added during the EA process.
So everything is progressing as planned, currently aiming at a very early September launch. It will be marked with the biggest sale for SiS as well.
If you want to be up to date on the progress get some spoilers, give feedback, or just hang out and such, join our Discord server here:
https://discord.gg/REKcMkf I am always accessible there when awake, and can share some juicy spoilers and sneak peaks.
Thanks for reading and hopefully see you soon in Usurper or the Discord.
Pugware Discord server.
Hello everyone,
We decided it was about time to have our own official Discord server. This will be a fast, direct, and relaxed way to contact us. Get some "behind the scene" updates on development, share your feedback, or just post some silly gifs.
A large number of you have sent us friend requests on Steam, and unfortunately this is a very inefficient way to contact us - especially due to factors such as the friend limit and an awkward UI. Hence why we felt the need to set up a Discord server.
So, feel free to join our new Pugware Discord Server, and get acquainted with us, and our other lovely players!
Steve will personally frequently share work in progress on backgrounds, enemies, etc. So if you ever wanted to talk to us, suggest something, or even just drop by, feel free!
We hope you'll enjoy the friendly atmosphere, and continue to help us maintain it. We love hearing and responding to your feedback, so this is a perfect way to do so!
See you there!
Devlog #2 (Have your name appear in Usurper)
Go to the Usurper devlog and comment the name you'd like to appear in Usurper, it's all free and the rules are very simple and sensible :)
It's like one of those Kickstarter perks but free.
Bugfixes.
Fixed;
---Pug item should return to everyone's inventory who managed to beat the 6 v1 mode, should not vanish again.
---Additional Achievement checks added upon loading. In case you didn't receive the achievement when beating the boss you should get it when loading a save where you did beat them.
