What we try to achieve in Sketch Crawler?

Is it possible to mix drawing and gaming? Can comedic fantasy and user-generated content be mixed? Can there be a benefit to a computer game? Let's explore.

Sketch Crowler is a experimental game and we plan to experiment well with procedural generation, comedic cartoon fantasy and user-generated content. We think it can be fun.

Experimentation will keep coming. We're looking for a golden formula for a game that will come together into something friendly and holistic that will be a joy to play for years to come.

We don't know where it will take us. We believe that only by exploring the unmapped paths can we discover something new. Ideally, it's not demanding to hardware game, which will live, even without internet, just on the user's computer.

A little about the graphics of the game. The simplicity of the style of drawing in Sketch Crawler is our conscious choice. First, it is much more expressive and charismatic than realistic characters, secondly, it is much easier for players to add their own drawings in this world, they look more holistic, in a third, it is a meme graphics, and this supports the comedy of what is happening.

We chose a form of free play model with in-game purchases to give everyone a touch of the project and ensure its longevity. We are also looking for a good form of monetization. We know the difference between dark and light monetization and we are definitely on the light side. We think there should be a fair exchange between players and developers.

In our opinion, the phenomenon of beneficial games is an obvious fact. These games are games that develop the player and give him practical benefits in life. The game is not an escape from reality, but a way to discover your abilities and take them into the real world. This is the kind of game we see in Sketch Crawler.

In Sketch Crawler the player practices his drawing skill, the game constantly tempts him to draw. And the longer the player plays, the better he will draw. And it also develops his imagination.

Creativity will save the world, and Sketch Crawler will help with that!

Woohoo! Version v0.34 is out!

Despite the blackout in Ukraine, we managed to update the game. And we have new fixes and features for you!

Bug report - now you can send us a bug report, along with information about crashes and game saves. That way we can more effectively fix the game.

Balance fixes - the game has become easier. Now difficult opponents are encountered much later in the game.



Magic Table - now available at the beginning of the game. Allows you to Ascend cards of magic, creatures and equipment.



Ascension adds new features to your cards.



Mode to choose the need to draw. Now there are two choices at the beginning of the game:

  • Don't draw. You don't have to draw new cards to use them.

  • The magic of drawing. New cards have to be drawn. You get a bonus +50% experience in the game.


And other fixes:

  • Ally behavior fix - now you can attack enemies from the same faction as your ally.

  • Fix cards with magic reflection - now they reflect magic.

  • Small interface and text fixes.




Bugreports, draw mode and various fixes


  1. You now can report bugs directly from game! Just press "Report a bug" or F2 button. This will send us logs and relevant information needed to replicate your bug and fix it.
  2. Draw mode! Now when starting a new game you can choose if you want to redraw all your cards. Those who do will get more experience. Those who don't want to draw that much now will have the option to skip it.
  3. Balance fixes! Basically the game is easyer now.
  4. Lots of minor bug fixes.

Whew! We fixed purchases!

Let us tell a little about how purchases work in the game. There are only three places where you can buy something.



Purchase 1.
You can unlock an additional character when you start a new game.




Purchase 2
You can buy x2 boosts for experience, gold and essence. They will remain in effect until the character you are playing dies. Boosts are sold by the Goblin Merchant at the Bar "Drunken Rat"




Purchase 3
You can open the option of using the original images on the cards, without having to draw them. For those who don't want to draw at all. You can open in the "Image Archive" in the Drawing Editor at the bottom right.


The last important thing to talk about purchases. By buying something in the game, you help us with the development of Sketch Crawler, because we won't last long without money and the project would have to stop. Once it happened with Sketch Tales when we ran out of money and had to freeze it until better times.

Unfortunately, you can' t buy anything in the game right now.
We are working on this and we will definitely write when we fix it.

Widescreen support

Now the game can be comfortably played on super wide monitros! Tested it on 32:9 aspect ratio, and also on 4:3, everything looks good. Have fun!

Sketch Crawler comes out in Early Access on November 15!

Yay, we're releasing Early Access! After a long 4 years of development and experimentation the game became something solid and playable, which we are happy to share with you. Sketch Crawler has evolved significantly, compared to the demo it added a lot of new mechanics, cards, locations, creatures and so on.

What awaits you in the early access?

The game is fully playable to the very end. It uses procedural level generation, has 4 main locations, 300+ characters and 300+ magic cards. There are also options to draw any card or item in the game, and even re-sound the characters.

What's next

Although the game is already passable, it's still not complete. We will continue to develop the game by adding new card mechanics, locations, quests, and characters. We also plan to add a user-generated content sharing system.

Big update v0.2!

Welcome, travelers!

It's that exciting moment of big update!


  • We completely redesigned the tutorial to make it easier and clearer.
  • Changed rest mechanics. Now, if there are no enemies nearby, it will restore health, mana and reshuffle cards when you press "R". This greatly simplifies understanding and playing the game.
  • A lot of work has been done on the balance of cards, creatures, and colorbuffs.
  • Fixed a lot of bugs


AI Update

  • creatures can dodge player casts
  • react better to player casts
  • react to artifacts
  • rest when there are no enemies and health is less than 100%
  • cease to cast a second cast on themselves if they have already had that cast
  • AI go into a panic attack not at 100% chance

  • timed furniture cards that can be used to block the passageways

FIXES.

  • Removed timer for reshuffle cards, now this function is performed by Rest
  • Improved level generation - bad levels are cut off
  • Fixed loss of a player card if you ran away in an ally
