Builder's Dream MAJOR Update 📐✨

Meowllo! It's been a while!! Because we couldn't make any hotfix patches while swapping out with our fancy new Builder's Kit.

There's a lot of new features of quality of life things to go through, so let's just go straight into it. More GIFs, less yapping from me. Yippe!!

Builder's Kit Overview

🔖 UI

  • Ability to search for items
  • Categories with pages...and the pages save! If you're on page 3 while exiting, you will come back to page 3
  • Ability to favorite items to easily access them through your favorites tab
  • Shows how many you own and how many you are able to craft
  • Like all of Snacko's UI, the new Builder's Kit catalog also has a dark mode.

✨ New Features

  • Multi-select same buildables to mass dye
  • Able to preview dyes and dyes are now shown as swatches in the dye menu
  • When you switch dye colors, it will refund your previous dye

  • Multi-select items while holding down a key + hovering over them to move, adjust, or put away
  • You can now select foliage that you've planted, like trees or flowers, to move them
  • When pressing down on your middle mouse button or clicking in your controller's right stick while hovering a buildable, it'll let you place that buildable (eyedropper tool)

  • You can now craft directly while placing things in build mode. It'll show you how many materials you have and how many you need
  • It'll read your items from your rucksack, storage containers, and your overflow storage as well

  • You can now place buildables anywhere, including out of bounds, in other maps, and inside NPC houses

  • Buildables no longer have collision restrictions. You can now put objects as close together as you like, or clip them together using the new "Nudge" feature
  • "Locking" an item puts you into nudge mode. While nudging, you can raise or lower objects, as well as shift them around
  • You can use this to clip objects into each other or float them

  • Buildables placed on top of each other will now get parented properly
  • Selecting a buildable will highlight and select any buildables on it

  • You can combine this with nudge to easily parent buildables to a foundation to make moving your creations around easier

  • When moving multiple objects, they will try to snap to surfaces
  • Locking while moving will snap them to the first selected buildable's height

  • Fences now preview the connection while moving or placing
  • Fences can now slant their connection for slopes or platforms

  • You can undo and redo actions: place, put away, move, and dye
  • The undo and redo queue is saved and only refreshed when you change the map, reload, or place a required buildable for a quest
  • You can turn on screenshot mode and use this as a way to record a timelapse of your builds!

New Content & Changes

🖼️ New Quests

  • Paintings have been removed as chest items in the overworld and replaced with materials
  • You can now obtain paintings through quests, starting with Catching a Glimpse, available after Charity Work and MSQ Follow the Sign
  • Completing these quests will also teach you the crafting recipe for them, allowing you to place them as decorations after donating one to the Cultural Center
  • The new quests also contain side story content
  • 6 quests added: Catching a Glimpse, Painting Jumpscare, Doppelganger, Frame of Time, Path of the Pious, and Artistic Surprise

📬 Quest Changes

  • Quests that ask you to invite all villagers or shopkeepers of a certain type have been re-parented to quests that are later in the game to prevent them from showing up too early
  • If you had them accepted but not completed, they'll be returned to the board or unavailable until you complete all the prerequisites
  • Tutorial days now properly teaches players how to claim quest rewards
  • Small Workbench has been moved to D.I.Why and taken out of tutorial days

🔭 Visual Changes

  • New grass texture
  • Added cloud shadows to the world
  • Changed "Block" type buildables to have a subtle texture

🐛 Fixes & Balance

  • Floating ominous orb in the title screen by Mikan's house now gone
  • Flowers now drop 1 Plant Material with a 15% chance of dropping 2 as the new Builder Kit makes it easy to mass-craft and plant flowers, giving you too much of a net positive of stamina and materials
  • Available paintings now have sell values
  • Crafting tab no longer lags; only contains crafting recipes for consumables and materials. Traditional buildables can be crafted or pinned from your Builder's Kit
  • Cows and chickens no longer yap so frequently and less loud
  • Removed all building restrictions except for barns and NPC houses
  • Fixed issues with building inside townhomes
  • The grid now properly aligns with the corners of the house, allowing you to place blocks, counters, or tables to snap to the edge properly
  • Guardians now have their own text style
  • Optimization of buildables, especially in save files with 20,000 blocks

...Wow, did I get everything? I think so!
The text overlay when you're in nudge mode used to be "locked". But then, I made a joke image while working on the new tutorial images and...

There's a lot of features packed into this update, and it should make building a lot smoother and feel a lot better. You can really go all out making different kinds of things, like a Pumpkin-headed Nobu Jr Plush, or something more normal.

Which new feature are you the happiest about? I think for me, it's the undo and redo. I make mistakes a lot, so it's a lifesaver. I still have a slight bit of panic when I accidentally put things away, but now I remember I can just ctrl+Z my problems away.

If you read this all the way to the end (or you just scrolled here hi), thank you very much! The two of us need to go take a nap now~ ...and buy groceries.

As always, thank you very much for your support 🥺 We put a lot of work and polish into this update!

If you have any questions, feel free to ping us in Discord.
See you soon 🐾

Trick or Treat! 🌱 Fall Building Challenge for Seeds

I'm back with a build event for you to have fun with! And the theme is... Fall!

Whether that's fall (the season) or Lunarfall (the holiday), have fun decorating with the new Pumpkin Lanterns and dyeable vintage set.

All participants with a valid submission in Discord will receive 27 Bell Pepper Seeds! Outstanding submissions will receive an additional Golden Builder's Kit.

I've uploaded a save file with some furniture items, some basic supplies, and a house with all the wallpapers and flooring styles unlocked for those who are earlier on in the game and would still like to participate →

📬 Rules

📌 Important Notes

  • The save file is heavily cheated. Any MSQ, quest, or issues with NPCs or progression in the provided save file will not be investigated as a bug
  • Make sure you don't have a save in your slot 9 before dragging it in. If you'd like to use the save file but have something in your 9th slot, back it up before replacing it

❗How to access your save files

  • Press Windows Key + R
  • Paste in: %APPDATA%\..\Local\snacko\
  • Back up or drag in the save file into Saved > SaveGames > SteamID number
  • You can check your SteamID by going to your Steam client's upper right hand side and viewing your account information

I'm looking forward to seeing all of them! Have fun~

🗣️ enraliYapping

I didn't want to really call it "Halloween" inside the game since that's sort of based in real-world belief systems that don't exist in Snacko. After all, Snacko has their own beliefs and deities already well established in the lore...so I figured it deserved its own version of "Halloween". Keeping the idea the same where it's helping souls move past purgatory, Lunarfall is just the more, um, Snacko version of it.

I had a lot of fun writing the banter between the characters for these new quests, including the quest descriptions. As time goes on and more Guild quests get added, the Guild leaders or reps also end up getting more of their own personality that makes them easier to write more interesting descriptions for.

So, I hope if quests and reading are your thing, you enjoy the work I've put into the narrative aspect of this update!

Ah, and, I was going to do Pumpkin Soup at first, but then I realized it looked exactly like Carrot Soup... So I made hobakjuk instead. It's a type of pumpkin soup thickened with rice flour and rice balls. Honestly, working on this update just made me really want to eat pumpkin pie. Maybe I can get my hands on some soon.

The Ornate Fence is set up in a way that in the future, we can make it dyeable. We're still working on our next major update with the build mode upgrades, so for everyone who really enjoys getting creative, please look forward to it! 🙇

Thank you very much for reading! Happy Lunarfall!

Demo Update & Updates Coming Up ✨

Meowllo!

The demo will finally have parity with our current 0.9.4 version. Up until now, demo players were still experiencing the old UI and lack of new game settings.

I went back to check just how out of date the demo is, and it doesn't even have the dark mode UI toggle in the beginning of the game!

...Yeah, it was a lot of work porting the 0.9.4 update to the demo version since locking the game was completely different.

Now, demo players can also get experience a bit of what the quest system is like and the overall game flow in the first few days. Sorry it took us so long 🙇

The limitations are similar, the main demo (game preview with tutorial days) ends on day six, or if you reach the "Them Apples" cutscene, whichever comes first.

In sandbox mode, it ends when you reach the next day.

As for existing players, we are working on our next major update: 0.9.5 will mainly deal with a lot of building QoL as well as build mode in general.

For something that is closer on the horizon, I've been working on a small Halloween-ish update. It'll come with quests, a new crop, a few recipes, and some furniture. So please look forward to that!

Honestly, our thought was "we should quickly update the demo!" and we thought it would take, you know, like a day? But we ended up running into some issues, and it ended up being more like three. In the process, we ironed out some bugs, like character customization not saving on intro skip in the main game, so that's good!

We did lose our minds a little bit, though.

0.9.4_9392 🐟 Guppy Spawn, Fixed Tundra Rivers, and Moon/Sunglow Flower Rates

  • Moonglow flowers now have 2X drop rate during the evening and night
  • Sunglow flowers now have 2X drop rate during the day and afternoon
  • Stardrop flowers now have 2X drop rate during the mornings
  • New fishing areas added to the Mushroom Forest's shallow pond around the large tree. These will spawn Guppies, so they are no longer locked behind the gacha machine and the mine's lower floors
  • Fixed fishing issues in the Frozen Tundra; you can now easily get Tilapia from the rivers by the campsite
  • Added an additional fishing spawn in the shallow pools up north in the tundra; there's a higher chance of Salmon spawns in the fall

0.9.4_8386 📖 Better Quest Card Navigation & Small Fixes

  • You can now go through the "Tasks" and "Rewards" section of the quest card with a gamepad and press right when you're on those sections to scroll through the list
  • Fixed Date (Bold House) and Kimchi's (Modern Eatery) house collision on the roof
  • Removed ability to edit the text in the mailbox and removed scaling, hopefully reducing the issue where on certain resolutions, the text can flicker
  • Fixed Nobu Jr. referencing himself when talking about Date in Way of the Weapons III
  • Text prompt and icon for item hover is now larger to help with portable systems and smaller screens
  • Misc. typo fixes
