0.9.4_9376 🌲 Building Materials Quest Changes & New Quest
Meowllo! I realized that you used to be able to purchase all the wall panels (Softwood, Drywall, etc.) from the get-go, including things like Nails and Concrete Slab.
Short of it:
Building Materials now split into three: the first now able to be taken and completed before the Grassy Plain's Obelisk completion
You now have to buy the wall panels, concrete slab, etc. from the blueprint shop. If you've already learned these recipes, this doesn't affect you
You'll only get access to the wall panels now as you unlock the ability to get the raw materials for them
New questline Futures Market added for those farther along. Requires Kiryl and finishing up to Building Materials III (Desert Canyon completion)
After some things were changed into quests, you were no longer able to easily get the 20 Concrete Slabs required for the Obelisk unless you got lucky breaking down debris.
Building Material has been changed to Building Material I, the first of three quests, and is immediately unlocked after "Intro to the Carpenter's Guild", making it now possible to purchase the Concrete Slab recipe before you unlock the mines.
Instead of the recipes being directly taught, they now cost money in the shop. My intention with money in the early game should be that you feel the need to consider whether to hold onto items or sell them, instead of just simply hoarding everything you come across because currency currently holds little value outside of buying seeds.
Instead of one quest giving you access to all the wall panels, Building Material II and III will now incrementally add the different wall panels and framing to your shop, making it align better with where you are in the MSQ and whether or not you can even obtain the raw materials.
Included now in the quest are tasks that are soft ways of teaching you how to get materials, such as Building Material I letting you know Glue is made from putting Birch or Toasted Birch Wood into a furnace.
Once those are completed, along with some other quests, there is a new quest for those farther along in the game: Futures Market. It's a continuation of some of the world lore covered in Digging Through the Archives. While working on this, since I wanted the quest to branch off based on what you pick, I noticed a bug that also affected some other quests, which explains why sometimes Two Eyes for Nothing would not completely properly for some players. Sorry;; I have fixed!!
It'll set things up nicely for future quests and story bits I'd like to integrate into our mines update, so look forward to that!
0.9.4_9364 🔖 Quest Requirement Preview
Quests that are not available can now be clicked on to view the requirements to unlock them. They will also display the accept conditions, such as time of day or how many flowers you need!
📬 Fixes
Log Lamp can now be placed properly
The quest Snacko City can now be completed
Removing legacy blueprint books from older quests and replacing with the new quest system
Interact not working in Lan's house
Nobu Jr.'s house disappearing in some save files
Rain now waters farm tiles again
Bats returned to their natural habitat in the mines
0.9.4_9332 📬 Join Quests with NPCs here!
Join Quests are here!
Have you ever wanted to just have your favourite villager follow you around? Just...hang out? Now you can! Join Quests are quests you can unlock with different NPCs that will have them follow you. If you complete the tasks, you can get a relationship boost and sometimes even an item!
If you just want them to hang out for a bit then go home, you can drop the quests from your journal to have them scurry on home.
You can now take quests with villagers that used to be "coming soon"!
Some of these quests require you to have ample friendship points or have finished other quests in order to unlock them
I have new join quests planned soon for more NPCs, so stay tuned~
🌟 New Quests
Fishing join quests added for Mikan, Nobu, Nobu Jr., A-Song, Ember, and Miss Curator
Other quests added include Resourceful Outing (Bituin), Nacreous Snow Melt (Ember), Night Rider (Rejka), Cooking for Two (Chae-Young), Spending Time with Chiaki, The Curious Cat (Nobu Jr.), Brush Time (Nobu Jr.), and Playdate I (Hanna)
New story quest: Lone Wolf I
📝 Changes
Some quests have added pre-requisite quests now or relationship requirements to better pace the quest board
Since quest reliance will auto-complete quests that came before it, I'm trying to remain cognisant of save files and not making any large, sweeping changes that involve MSQ
Future quests will hopefully be more spread apart instead of allowing you to rapid-fire complete a whole line despite not having access to some of the materials
Better re-categorized reoccurring villager quests as "tasks" to de-clutter the quest board. Villager will now pertain to unique or villager-story based quests only
Lighting tweaked to make it easier on the eyes in Original world theme; this should also make your character look closer to what it does in the UI
Time of day changes: Night now starts at 6 PM instead of 8 PM
🐛 Fixes
Fixed issue where the "task" filter on quest board wasn't properly showing "task" types
Removed ceilings from interiors. Be responsible with this knowledge. If you jump or pickaxe bounce your way out of bounds, I'm not saving you (use the go home button)
Yang Yang will now show up in save files where the poor boy was missing. He was simply lost
"Cook Anything" quest tasks now work and register properly
Fixed crash that was occurring with the axe and stumps
Recursive is unfortunately feeling very under the weather, so in the meantime, I've just done some quest data work as he gets his much needed rest.
One thing I noticed was that there were lots of double unlocks for items/crafting recipes. Some crafting recipes that are learned during a quest's accept reward vs completion reward wasn't properly getting filtered out of the shop.
So now, new players should feel less ??? when looking at the Blueprint Shop.
📬 Quest Changes
Drying Rack and Cabin Nightstand now unlocked through Cabin in the Woods
Torch and Floating Torch now unlocked through Light it Up
Bamboo Well now unlocked through Well, Well, What?
Well, Well, What? has proper quest task and can be completed now
Fixed issue where Fertilizer Sacks had a big collision, making them hard to place together or near objects
As part of this audit, I also updated my own sheets that I used internally when I first started writing these quests on what unlocks what.
Ideally, these should be converted and put on the wiki or as a Steam guide one day...but alas... For now, feel free to use this as a reference! It's also linked on our Trello board for the wiki.
Some other fixes and the planned new quest type + quests will have to wait until rec is feeling better. Thank you for understanding 💖
As always, if you're having trouble with anything or encountered an issue in your save file, feel free to ping us in the Discord. I'll be around~
0.9.4_9251 🌱 Harvest with hoe, renaming livestock
Meowllo!
You can now use your hoe to harvest crops that are ready. This is handy if you have an upgrade that expands the tile width or depth. Multi harvest, yippe!
You can now use your hoe outside of the farm as well as an attack.
We also fixed the issue where you could no longer rename your livestock. No more Nobu Jr. randomized default names (unless you like them...)
Reel Improvement and Scaling for Late Game have also been fixed; for save files where you've already upgraded your rod in that slot, please remove it and re-insert at your Jeweler's Table until we fix the save migration for older save files!
I also wrote a guide on unlocking items through quests if you're having issues finding where things are now. Will be trying to add furniture sets, dyes, and additives to it in the next coming days.
0.9.4_9243 🔖 RNG drop table pity, quest clean up, and new early game quests
Meowllo!
It's here...pity system for Snacko drops. Are you tired of farming for a rare item over and over again? Flipping the coin 1,000 times just to get unlucky?
We tested our drop rates, and statistically, they were working. But boy does it feel terrible to lose out on apples and gems after grinding all day.
So recursive implemented a pity system. Or bad luck protection, if you don't play gacha games.
If you're going for a rare item over and over again, it will slowly become more common until you get it, and then the drop rates reset.
As for the quests...
Is it confusing if you've went through the Carpenter's Guild quests quickly, then was asked for glass before you've even unlocked the area to get the Cobalt you needed?
...Yeah. I've done some quest clean up to help the quest board feel less cluttered right off the bat.
D.I.Why was also a product of it's time: back when we didn't have an easy way to create multiple quests, so it just taught you like...40 things. We've now moved them off into separate quests that are new. If you already have these items unlocked, it's okay! You can still do them.
✨ New Quests
- Light It Up teaches torches - Better Than a Bed teaches Sleeping Box - Back to Plain teaches Original Dye - Someone's Garbage... teaches the debris crafting recipes from D.I.Why
📬 Quest Changes
- Way of the Weapons I (teaches sword) now available after Them Apples to learn early on - Fool Me Once, Modern Taste, Tropical Getaway, Mushroom Mayhem, Vintage Variety now require you to unlock the biomes with the materials required before the quests appear - Sow What III now requires Iva's quest Negotiation Tactics to be completed since it requires Spinach - Just a Hobby III now requires Sow What II since it requires Wheat - D.I.Why now teaches the recipes on reward claim like Fishing for Compliments to be less confusing - Fixed Tameem's Troubles not completing properly when delivering Glue (in the back end, it was asking for glass...)
Moving forward, you'll see more changes like this slowly as we try to reduce the bulk of 100 quests being added to your board at once, while keeping in mind the frustration that can happen if things are locked behind too far into mid-late game.
Thank you very much for playing~
0.9.4_9221 💤 Sleeping box duration picker
Meowllo! I'm back and 71% alive! Yippe! We have a few more bugs to sweep up, but here is an update with some new quality of life updates~
When using the Sleeping Box, you can now choose how long you will sleep. With time of day based events or drop rate changes, we hope this makes your time on Snacko Island a little easier to navigate!
We've moved the "Delete" button for save files from the bottom button row to the top. Although the "delete" function will still bring up a confirm pop-up, this should prevent any accidental misclicks on your beloved save files.
The pin feature is back for crafting recipes with better gamepad routing and added quantity selector even when you're not at a workbench. Now you can select quantity and pin the requirements to your HUD wherever you are!
Getting close to your livestock now will pop up their name. You can finally differentiate between Cow-culator and Cow-culus.
📬 Fixes
Fixed inability to unlock Date or Lan's invite option through the mailbox for new files. "Mail room clerk" will now be available after completing "Intro to the Capital Post Guild"
Fixed "Real Myst-ery" not giving Myst Flower Seeds and the shop not selling them until completing the quest, creating an inescapable loop (the not-fun kind). We are still working on a save migration to fix those who have already accepted the quest and not gotten their seeds
Improved stamina wheel readability in dark mode
Fixing Yang Yang not coming to live along with his brother, A-Song
0.9.4_9204: We're back from PAX West! 🏠
Hey everyone - we're finally back from PAX West! We had a ton of fun meeting players and developers for the first time, gave away a ton of exclusive merch, and demoed the game to a bunch of new people 😁
I'll be catching up on bugs for the next couple days - today's update contains an assortment of small bugfixes and polish from our PAX West Demo. Since preparing for the event was fairly hectic, I don't have an exact list what was changed/fixed 😭
I'll be prioritizing villager/quest issues over the next couple days - notes from here on out should call out specifically what was addressed by that update.
Thanks for being patient while we were gone - more to come soon!
