Locked And Loaded | Sniper Elite 5 Out Now

Calling all elite snipers!

Sniper Elite 5 is available now on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Steam and Windows Store. Sniper Elite 5 offers an unparalleled tactical sniping experience as you fight your way across the most immersive maps ever featured in the series, with many real-world locations captured in stunning detail.

The new Launch trailer to celebrate the release of Sniper Elite 5 is available to view here:

Sniper Elite 5 takes place in the events around D-Day in France, 1944, as our hero Karl Fairburne joins a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany. There he makes contact with French Resistance, and they begin to uncover a secret Nazi plot that threatens to turn the tide of the war back in the Nazi’s favour: Operation Kraken. It is now down to Karl to reveal exactly what the Axis forces are planning and end Operation Kraken, and the mastermind behind it, Abelard Möller, before it can be launched.

Rebellion CEO, Jason Kingsley said: “We are extremely proud to be releasing Sniper Elite 5 today and cannot wait for players to get their hands on the game. The franchise continues to go from strength to strength and the entire team at Rebellion has done a fantastic job to create the best game in the series to date. We are particularly proud of the new Invasion Mode which we think will be a real fan favourite. The tension and challenge that the invasion creates really intensifies and heightens the gameplay experience.”

SNIPER ELITE 5 GAME FEATURES:

Expansive Campaign – real-world locations have been captured using photogrammetry to recreate a living, immersive environment with multiple infiltration and extraction points. Side missions, hidden collectables and kill list targets provide a whole new perspective on each mission. Take on the Nazi plot solo or work with a partner, with improved co-op mechanics allowing you to share ammo and items, give orders and heal each other.

Invasion Mode and Co-op – invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge as you stalk your prey. Invasion Mode can be toggled on/off in the game menu. The entire campaign is also playable in 2 player online co-op with players able to share items and ammo and revive each other.

Weapon customisation – find Workbenches hidden in the missions (each mission has 3 to find) to customise and upgrade virtually every aspect of your weapon – change scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more. Rifles, secondaries and pistols all have a huge variety of options. On top of that you can select the ammo to suit your target, from armour-piercing right down to non-lethal.

Adversarial multiplayer – customise your character and loadout and earn XP, medals and ribbons as you take on intensely competitive 16 player battles that will really test your sharpshooting skills. If co-op’s more your style, you can team up with up to 3 other players against waves of enemies in Survival mode.

Full crossplay – crossplay enables you to seamlessly play co-op, Invasion Mode and adversarial multiplayer with other players on all other formats.

Enhanced Kill Cam – more realistic and grislier than ever, the trademark X-ray kill cam returns, showing you the true destructive power of each shot. Bones deflect bullets unpredictably, ripping a new path through enemy bodies. SMGs and pistols can also trigger kill cams, including multiple shots in dramatic slow motion. The frequency with which a player sees Kill Cam can be changed in the game menu, including the ability to switch it off entirely.

Advanced gunplay – factor in rifle stock and barrel options along with gravity, wind and heart rate while you line up your sights on the target. For the first time in the series iron sights have been included for SMGs and pistols.

New traversal mechanics – Karl can now use zip lines, slide down slopes and shimmy along ledges to reach the perfect vantage point, or to sneak past sharp-eyed enemies. Enhanced climbing abilities now allow you to explore hidden areas in the game map and unlock alternative routes.

Explore ‘The Art Of Stealth’ In Sniper Elite 5

Attention snipers!

Allied HQ has passed on further intel and included a new Sniper Elite 5 video that reveals details about the stealth options that will be available to elite level snipers when the game is released on May 26th. Offering insight from the development team as well as from the game’s military advisor and motion capture artist Paul Biddiss (https://twitter.com/PaulBiddiss), the new Spotlight trailer features interviews and gameplay footage showcasing the new traversal, sneaking and takedowns in Sniper Elite 5, including new non-lethal options.

The new Spotlight video is available to watch here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u435k6geWj8
Paul Biddiss, the military advisor and action co-ordinator for a number of high-profile movies and TV shows, provided his expertise to the Sniper Elite 5 development team as well as being the motion capture artist for Karl Fairburne, helping to ensure the highest possible level of authenticity to his movements and takedowns. Speaking about his involvement in the game Paul said: “All the takedowns are realistic to the training that was given to SOE operatives… everything is realistic. There is no embellishment.”

The new video also gives details of the other stealthy options open to Karl including new traversal mechanics which open up hidden areas of the maps as well as giving the player alternative routes to approach their objectives. The player will also have to consider the audible distance of both their weapon and ammo when taking a shot if they want to remain undetected.

In Sniper Elite 5 you will have a host of non-lethal options at your disposal including the ability to incapacitate the enemy with non-lethal takedowns and ammunition. These options provide you with even greater scope to approach each mission and game scenario in a way that best suits your playstyle and your objective.

One final bit of intel for the tabletop gamers out there – preorders for Sniper Elite: The Board Game are now open from the Rebellion Unplugged webstore. This tense stealth action board game sees one player take on the role of Allied Sniper Karl Fairburne, while up to 3 players team up to command the Axis forces and hunt their enemy down.

Dev Diaries | Sniper Elite 5 Accessibility Feature Showcase

With the launch of Sniper Elite 5 fast approaching, we want to showcase the accessibility features you can expect to find in the latest instalment of the award-winning series.

It’s important to us that as many people as possible can play our games and so we’ve worked hard to reduce barriers and make Sniper Elite 5 more approachable. We’re also aware of the importance of publicising our features so you know if you can play before you buy. Without much further ado here are the upcoming accessibility features in Sniper Elite 5:

Difficulty Customisation

Everyone is an Elite as you can customise the difficulty to whatever suits you.

You’ll have five pre-set difficulty levels to choose from ranging from Civilian (Very Easy) to Authentic. Our new Civilian difficulty is our equivalent of a story mode with highly reduced combat, player damage and enemy awareness, so we hope this will open the game up to players who found Sniper Elite 4 too challenging. In addition, you can customise the combat, sniping and tactical aspects of the game independently to better suit you.

But difficulty customisation doesn’t end there. In our Advanced Difficulty mode you can fine tune a huge range of specific elements to best suit your playstyle. From how much information is displayed on the radar to health regeneration and enemy AI behaviour, you’ll be able to tailor the game to your capabilities.

Difficulty can also be changed at any time from the pause menu, so there’s no need to restart a mission if you find the challenge too high or low.

Tutorials

Sniper Elite 5 introduces enhanced tutorial options. Not only do you have constant access to detailed tutorials (accessed from the pause menu) to help guide you through all the mechanics and enemies you may encounter, but we also have options for the frequency of tutorials and even an option to reset them. So, if you have a break and come back to the game or just need extra reminders, you can reset the tutorials and jump straight back in without having to play through an introductory level to get your bearings.

Subtitles & Text

Sniper Elite 5 is fully voice acted and with that come subtitles. Our subtitle customisation gives you the ability to change text size, colour (from a range of pre-sets) and background opacity. All subtitles include speaker names too, so you’ll always know who’s talking.
In multiplayer we have a quick chat wheel with common shout outs – each of these are also voice acted and have subtitles displayed on screen.

Sniper Elite 5 also has some scaling options for text in menus and some HUD elements. Scaling for UI text is limited to small, medium, large sizes.

Colour Blindness Adjustments

We know our colour blind players struggled with the Stealth system in Sniper Elite 4 as it relied heavily on colour. So, to help fix that we’ve added colour adjustments to SE5 for enemy awareness and location markers. You can now choose from four pre-defined colour palettes; original and 3 colour blind accessible variants.

Customisable Audio Levels

We’ve separated out some audio channels so you can set them to whatever works best for you. Including individual sliders for hit feedback, dialogue and enemy awareness cues, you’ll be able to balance the sounds most important to you as you play. For multiplayer you can enable or disable voice chat and adjust the chat volume independently.

We also have a setting to adjust the Dynamic Audio Range, so that you can reduce the severity of loud noises like explosions. Finally, SE5 uses Spatial Audio to help you locate enemies around you and immerse you in the fight.

Controls & Input

Anyone can be a Sniper, and with the huge range of Aim Assist options available you won’t have to worry about pinpoint accuracy if that’s not your thing. Aim Assist is also customisable by state, so you can have different aim assistance settings for firing from the hip, scoped and ironsights.

Sniper Elite 5 will also launch with full control remapping on mouse and keyboard. For gamepad users we have 6 pre-sets to choose from - three layouts each with left and right-handed variants. These left and right variants swap the stick functionality.
SE5 will also offer the standard sensitivity and axis inversion options.

Accessibility First!

The first time you launch the game you’ll be asked to do the usual set up, but you’ll also get a chance to change the accessibility settings and subtitle display right away before any cut scenes. This ensures that you can experience the game in a way that suits you from the get go.

A few visual settings we offer include support for reducing motion sickness, where you can disable Motion Blur and Binocular Distortion. And finally, everyone loves a kill cam, right? Well, not always. You’re free to turn off Kill Cameras or X-Rays whenever you like. So if gore isn’t something you’re keen on, you can play without fear of those incredibly graphic testicle shots!

Although we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved for Sniper Elite 5, we’re still at the start of our accessibility journey. We hope to release more accessibility features in updates and we want to hear from you – our players – about what barriers you face and what features would help you. Or is there something we have that doesn’t quite meet your needs? Get in touch with us on twitter @Rebellion, join the conversation on our Discord, or through our Help Centre.

Sniper Elite 5 Takes Kill Cam To The Next Level

Calling all snipers!

We have received essential intel, including a new gameplay trailer for Sniper Elite 5, which sheds light on the enhancements made to the all familiar and devastating slow motion Kill Cam. For the first time in the series, Kill Cam can now be triggered by particularly clinical shots using SMGs and pistols as well as for eliminations using rifles and takedowns.

Equip those binos and check out the new trailer here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS8Ef3dHyQw
Enhancements have been made to both the physics and the visuals behind Sniper Elite 5’s Kill Cam. Bullets can now ricochet off bones causing even further internal devastation which is shown to the player in more detail - thanks to enhancements in the visual representation of the characters, including more definition on the skeleton, muscles, organs and sinew!

To scope or not to scope?

The inclusion of iron sights for both SMGs and pistols, a first for the series, will allow you to be more accurate with those weapons, which will in turn trigger a Kill Cam for the most clinical of shots. The elite snipers among you will also have control over the Kill Cam in real time with ability to speed up or slow down the cinematic - as well as being able to adjust the camera angle!

As a favourite feature with the sharpest of shooters, the frequency with which one sees the Kill Cam can be adjusted in the game’s menu (including the ability to turn it off completely, if you'd prefer).

Weapon Modification

The weapons in Sniper Elite 5 have been painstakingly recreated from real world reference to ensure maximum authenticity. Snipers can now customise their weapons by discovering workbenches hidden within the missions. Each workbench will unlock further customisation options. This means that you can adjust your chosen loadout to suit your individual play style and the objective that you are undertaking.

PRE-ORDER SNIPER ELITE 5:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1029690/Sniper_Elite_5/

Dev Diaries | World-Building

With just 16 days to go until the release of Sniper Elite 5, Rebellion HQ shares top secret intel on the real-world inspirations behind one of the spectacular settings coming to the campaign.

Within the action packed CGI trailer we shared in January, some of our keen-eyed Sniper fans may have noticed a familiar structure standing amongst the chaos - the towering presence of Beaumont-Saint-Denis.

The inspiration for Beaumont-Saint-Denis is the real life Abbey of the Mont-Saint-Michel, a breath taking construct situated in the picturesque bay shared by Brittany and Normandy. Its origins can be traced back to the early 8th century where the bishop of a nearby town claimed that the Archangel Michael had demanded a church be built on top of the island on the bay.

Since that time it has gone through a number of changes, including the building of what we now know as the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel. Its towering steeples, narrow winding streets and assorted monastic buildings are all preserved behind high defensive walls. What could be more perfect as inspiration for a Sniper Elite 5 mission?

We sat down with Principal Environment Artist Saija Wintersun, Lead Environment Artist Simon Richards and Head of Design Jordan Woodward to discuss the design of the level and the challenges they faced.

What were the benefits of visiting the site in person?

Saija Wintersun - ‘In order to capture the essence of the location, you have to first experience it. At the end of the day photogrammetry can only replicate the visuals of an object, not the atmosphere. You have to ask yourself what makes this place special. Is it the scale, the claustrophobia, the wind and the cold, the stone, the way the puddles are formed, the ancient medieval wood they had, what kind of birds there are, what does the echo sound like, and so on. Finally there is the challenge of making something that is better than real life. It’s not meant to be an exact copy. It’s something more.’’

Jordan Woodward – ‘One of the aspects of Mont Saint Michel is that it is very maze-like, so to replicate that in the game, it is essential that the designers get a real feel for the place. That feeling of disorientation can only really be translated over into the level having actually felt it personally.’

How does the team go about transferring the space into a playable level?

Simon Richards – ‘All of our environments begin with a whitebox, a basic blockout of the gameplay space. From this point the whitebox is refined until it functions for both Art & Designs needs. We'll then begin populating the environment with art assets created during the whitebox phase, and Design will implement the gameplay. The process between Art & Design is collaborative and we'll often make changes to the gameplay spaces as we build out the environments.’

What was one of the biggest challenges when approaching the design of Beaumont-Saint-Denis?

Saija Wintersun – ‘Building a level is a puzzle, with the artist on one side pushing for impressive visuals and the designer looking for the most fun gameplay. Bringing these opposing viewpoints together is always challenge. We had a lot of compromises in the layout of the island. For example, there were originally lots of sharp angles and steep staircases that may have been realistic but didn’t work for gameplay. We also had to make sure the player has enough sightlines and impressive views without removing too much of the architecture so it still felt like a town.’

Simon Richards – ‘Visiting Mont-Saint-Michel I was struck by how small the town is, and how surprisingly easy it is to get lost! When adapting a real location there's always a balance between preserving the look & feel of the location, and creating a viable gameplay space. We have a lot of gameplay metrics required by the AI and that often means spaces need to be a little larger than they are in reality. It's a fun challenge to figure out the balance between the two, and how far you can push either way.’

Did you feel any pressure basing a level design on such an iconic historical monument?

Saija Wintersun – ‘No, of all the level concepts in the early phase of development, Beaumont-Saint-Denis was the one I wanted to work on the most, as I knew it would be mission people would remember visually.

Simon Richards – ‘The pressure comes from achieving a balance between form and functionality, as we strive to recreate the feel of a real world location, which also supports the requirements of the gameplay. I think we've managed to strike a good balance in this respect.'

Did the pandemic cause many issues during the initial phases of design and if so, how did you overcome them?

Simon Richards – ‘We were lucky in that we managed to complete quite a few reference trips to key locations in France and the Channel Islands prior to the pandemic. We had planned to visit more locations in France, however the restrictions on travel ultimately made those unworkable. Despite that we were still able to arrange location visits within the UK, as and when the restrictions allowed for it.’

What has been the biggest learning experiences, having utilised field trips to sites for reference purposes?

Jordan Woodward – ‘Having not gone on trips beforehand, it made us realise how much more efficiently and accurately a level can be constructed. Having real memories of a place can positively impact design rather than making use of images and videos previously sourced by someone else. Ultimately scale is also much easier to decipher having been there in person. The other great aspect to reference trips is having the level designer and the artists, who ultimately will be working together be able to co-ordinate their ideas collaboratively. Communication is much easier when you have the inspiration right in front of you. We hope that this translates in the final design and that fans of Sniper Elite will enjoy it as much as we had creating it.

Sniper Elite 5 will release simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Epic, Steam and Windows Store on May 26TH 2022.

Karl Fairburne’s exploits continue. Will he be victorious? That will be up to you.

Sniper Elite 5 | Features Trailer

Attention Snipers!

Exclusive intel has come our way and we are proud to reveal a new trailer for Sniper Elite 5 which showcases the game’s features and game modes, including the first glimpse of multiplayer and Invasion Mode. With all footage captured in game, you can feast your eyes on the Features Trailer here:

Sniper Elite 5’s expansive campaign is set in France in 1944 and centres around the events of D-Day. Elite sniper Karl Fairburne uncovers a Nazi plot called Operation Kraken that could turn the tide of the war back in their favour. Working in the shadows behind enemy lines, Karl has to use all the skills at his disposal to destroy Operation Kraken and the mastermind behind it Abelard Möller. The full Campaign is playable in two player online co-op allowing players to team up as they fight the Axis force and track down Möller.

Invasion Mode

You can also try to thwart Karl’s progress as the new Invasion Mode allows an opposing player to join your game as an Axis Sniper tasked with hunting Karl down and taking him out. The invading player can make use of AI Axis soldiers to help them find Karl’s location, creating a high stakes game of cat and mouse. Meanwhile Karl can utilise phones placed within the level to gather intel on the invader and their location. For those wanting an uninterrupted campaign, you’ll be pleased to hear Invasion Mode can be toggled on/off in the game menu.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer is not restricted to the campaign as a suite of tense multiplayer combat modes are also available. Complete with all format crossplay, Sniper Elite 5’s multiplayer features four core game modes each with a host of customisation options allowing players to create their own matches.

Sniper Elite has always been recognised for its advance gun physics and this has been elevated even further for Sniper Elite 5. With weaponry painstaking recreated from real world reference to ensure maximum authenticity, the guns in Sniper Elite 5 contain a meticulous level of detail and all have their own unique feel and characteristics to the player.

Elite snipers will be pleased to see that the Kill Cam has also been elevated. Clinical kills with pistols and SMG will now trigger the Kill Cam in addition to rifle and takedown kills. Bullets will ricochet off bone, causing increased devastation which is shown to the player in even more gory detail than ever before.

Weapon customisation has also been greatly enhanced with players now able to change a weapon’s stock, magazines, receiver, barrel, scopes and iron sights as well as its materials. This allows every player to create a suite of weapons that perfectly suit their individual playstyle as well as the mission that they are undertaking. Customisation options are unlocked in the game by discovering workbenches that are hidden within the maps. At these benches players can then customise their loadout meaning that they can adapt their playstyle and approach on the fly without having to restart a mission.

New traversal mechanics have unlocked even more playstyle options. The routes you take can define if you are stealthy and stay in the shadows or go loud and take the fight to the enemies head on. The ability to climb vines for example allows Karl to reach new areas of the map giving him sneaky routes, great vantage points and access to secret locations further adding to each mission’s replayability.

Pre-order the Sniper Elite 5 Deluxe edition now to receive the latest mission of the much heralded ‘Target Führer’ campaign entitled “Wolf Mountain”, the P.1938 Suppressed Pistol and of course, the Season Pass which comes fully loaded with:
