Friends in Moominvalley Part 1: Meet the residents!
Moominvalley is rife with parks, police officers… and friends! Snufkin will encounter familiar and beloved faces from Tove Jansson’s stories when he’s running through the forest, scaling mountain faces, and clambering through caves. The valley is vibrant and alive, dotted with unique and colorful characters who call the place home. Come and learn more about who will show up during your adventures as Snufkin!
Ninny
“Oh I thought you were Stinky!” ~ Ninny
On the beach, there’s a mysterious set of footprints. If you follow them as Snufkin, you’ll realize that the footprints end mysteriously - and then start magically appearing… as if created by an invisible person.
It’s Ninny, and she is indeed an invisible girl! She’ll request you to find items belonging to her, stolen by a certain irate troublemaker.
Fillyjonk
“Go away! The world outside has gone mad! We want nothing to do with it. Leave us to our peaceful existence, and our tidy garden paradise!” ~ Fillyjonk
Fillyjonk keeps a pristine yard and home, and is highly displeased when Snufkin comes knocking on her door - bringing ahem, unexpected visitors who wouldn’t leave him alone in the woods.
She desires to keep order and her children disciplined. Snufkin will have to come up with creative ways to get her out of the house for an important conversation. Hint: He’ll enact some quality mischief.
Toffle
“Is the entire world as scary as this? How do people cope?” ~ Toffle
On your journey, you might encounter a nervous person trapped on a tree’s branches and surrounded by bees. Snufkin’s melodic flute comes in handy for rescue situations like this.
Although Toffle is quite glum at first and anxious about finding their friend, Snufkin’s steady encouragement is the push he needs to begin the search for companionship again. Friendship is to be sought out after all! It rarely falls in one's lap, and it’s heartening to see Toffle approach the world and friend-making with renewed bravery.

As you travel to new areas on the map, you’ll not only see beautiful vistas, but also solve different puzzles related to valley residents. Bountiful inspiration, blossoming connections, and playful interactions with each character are waiting for you in the valley.

The festive season has fully commenced. It is the season, the end of the year is rapidly approaching and obligations tend to feel like they stack up. During this busy Rawcember, we would like to take a moment and offer you a During Rawcember we would like to offer you retreat from it all~ 🎶
The wind howls through the landscape, you watch, observe. You see natural shapes and formations, fauna and features that seed your imagination. Walking or traversing creates space in your mind. And you start to think… think about the smallest but also the biggest of things…
Are you a Wanderer and Ponderer like us? We hope you’ve had a great time exploring the first area of Moominvalley! If you are looking for something similar in experience, have you tried the multiple award winning adventure and exploration game from our friends at Shedworks, Sable? Sable is a unique and unforgettable journey across vast deserts and mesmerizing landscapes, capped by the remains of ancient wonders.
Something is very amiss in Moominvalley. Strange parks with monotonous lawns, trimmed hedges, and paved roads have popped up everywhere — and Snufkin will not stand for it!
He hides in a bush. He jumps out to pluck out a sign. And another one. And then another one. The signs seem endless… and oh is that a statue? He can’t pluck that, but it’s no trouble. Snufkin knocks it over with a hearty push.
In contrast to the rest of the valley, these gated areas are devoid of joy and filled with paved pathways, perfect rows and meticulously trimmed hedges. Without Moominvalley residents and inhabitants, the parks are like silent mazes. And as Snufkin, your goal is to get to the bottom of why the parks appeared and along the way, dismantle any parks you come across.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Patrolling almost every corner of the parks are Police Officers, the guards in charge of making sure no one trespasses. Snufkin will need to avoid getting spotted by them or else he’ll be booted out of the parks. He can hide behind rows of bushes and other landmarks, or use his harmonica to prompt birds to flitter around and distract Police Officers — allowing him to escape their notice.
Snufkin is equipped with plenty of abilities to not only escape detection from Police Officers, but to also explore the valley. He possesses a hearty jump and the ability to push and pull items. He can also pick up and put down items like smaller stones, so if there isn’t a Sea Monster to ferry him across a stream, Snufkin can build his own path with a stack of nearby stones.
And as you gain more inspiration throughout the game, discover through rustling of bushes and activities like plucking signs — you’ll unlock more of Moominvalley. So if there’s a specific area locked by an inspiration-level you don’t have yet, come back to it later when you’ve explored more!
Moominvalley’s critters and inhabitants will aid you in not only getting rid of parks — they’ll also help you traverse the ledges, gaps, and lakes across different terrains. In our newsletter covering the valley’s critters and inhabitants, we introduced some of the ways they assist Snufkin in getting around the valley. Even the residents that might be slightly scary at first sight, like a certain infamous and frosty character, can lend a helping hand to Snufkin in unexpected ways.
We hope the experience of exploring Moominvalley is joyful and curious, appealing to the nature of free-spirited wanderers. A hearty jump, a beloved harmonica, and an open heart is all you need to start an adventure.

"SQUEAK": Meet Moominvalley's Small Inhabitants🐿️🐇🪱🐦
“When [Snufkin] reached out, someone gave a sudden shout and flashed past him and off among the firs, still crying and squeaking all the way. ‘Oh yes,’ Snufkin said. ‘Creeps and woodies everywhere. Funny how nervous they always seem to be. The smaller the jumpier.’” - The Spring Tune, Tales from Moominvalley
A rustle in the bush. A curious hole on the mountainside. A nest blocking a pathway.
Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is inhabited by many curious creatures - some shy, some sweet, and some, surprisingly sassy like a certain spider. Everyone, big and small, are affected by the nonsense imposed by the Park Keeper and the patrolling police — with unnatural and unpleasant parks forced upon the environment and ruining homes.
Moominvalley’s small inhabitants can provide inspiration to Snufkin, building up his musical affinity, and some of them can assist with Snufkin’s goals of plucking signs and pushing over statues in manicured gardens. Everywhere you travel to in Moominvalley, from the beaches to The Lonely Mountains, there are helpful critters ready to say “chirp”!
🎶🎶Make Friends with Melodies… 🎶🎶
Snufkin can befriend many small inhabitants with a song or two on his harmonica. Earning the help of creatures is important to traversing Moominvalley. Is a ledge too high to jump over and are there suspiciously creep-sized outlines engraved on the ledge? Then there may be nearby Creeps Snufkin can charm with his harmonica to help boost him up.
And sometimes if a ledge is extra tall… you’ll need extra Creeps. You’ll need to search for each of them, but they’ll be happy enough to help you with ledges. Creeps aren’t the only ones you can ask for help as Snufkin.
Wriggly worms can aid in hopping across gaps and Sea Creatures will agree to ferry you across lakes
🎶🎶…But You’ll Need Inspiration!🎶🎶
But in order to befriend critters in the game, Snufkin needs certain levels of inspiration. Interacting with Moominvalley’s wildlife is one way to increase Snufkin’s inspiration levels - so don’t be shy about getting to know the creatures. You are playing as the great wanderer after all. Nature and its inhabitants will be important friends in helping dismantle offensive parks and restoring Moominvalley to its former natural and harmonious state. For example, birds can help you distract police officers either by squawking or crashing into them, as directed by the harmonica’s tunes.
🕷️🕷️“Bullies. I was here first.” - Spider🕷️🕷️
Aside from getting rid of parks together, Snufkin will also meet other unique creatures - like the dramatic spider. Although seemingly very good at holding grudges once slighted, the spider will forgive you under specific circumstances. The way to a spider’s heart is through… ?
You’ll need to play our game, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, to find out!
