Solitaire Expeditions

Fix to Monte Carlo

Fixed a bug in Monte Carlo that was preventing consolidating the Tableau when the Stock was exhausted, making the game rather unwinnable.

Some minor fixes

  • Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented game window being restored to its previous size at startup
  • Demon Fan: Fixed incorrect re-deal logic
  • La Belle Lucie: Fixed bug where cards weren't reshuffled on a redeal
  • Pile Up: Added rule clarification

Added setting to control double click behavior

There is now a setting to choose the behavior of where to play cards when double-clicking on them. Choices are "Foundations only" and "All locations". Default is "Foundations only", which was the existing behavior of double-click.

Halloween event is live, plus Solitaire Expeditions is 20% off

It's time for some ghost hunting!

Today's update enables the Halloween event in Solitaire Expeditions! To participate, start a new Expedition (any existing Expeditions will not be affected). Win games in the haunted states to unlock fun Halloween art.

The game will also be 20% off for the duration of the Steam Scream Fest, so tell all of your family and friends!

I've also added some other features and fixes (see below).

A bonus treat, Variant #161: Casket

Following the Halloween theme, we have a new variant: Casket. This one is pretty unique, so you'll just have to try it.

Full change list

  • Added variant #161: Casket
  • Double-click can now be used to move cards automatically to locations other than Foundation piles. There is no intelligence behind this feature - it merely picks the first valid spot
  • Added game name and difficulty to resume previous game dialog in Free Play
  • Added Redeal and Restart buttons to the Free Play game toolbar
  • Rules view: Added small gap to the left of the vertical scrollbar
  • Flower Garden/Wildflower: Added rules labels for tableau and reserve piles to match what they are called in the rules
  • Forty Thieves: Changed difficulty rating from Hard to Very Hard
  • Four Seasons: Fixed bug where foundation checkmarks were displayed before foundation was actually complete
  • Intelligence: Fixed weird display flicker
  • Royal Penguin: Fixed incorrect rule text
  • Selective Castle: Fixed incorrect rule; Tableau can now wrap King to Ace
  • Tabby Cat/Manx: Enabled autoplay to discard piles; fixed bug with being able to drop more than one sequence onto the same discard pile
  • Two Cells: Changed difficulty rating from Hard to Very Hard

Scare up some fun with Solitaire Expeditions!

For a limited time, you can trick or treat on your Expedition!

During the Steam Scream Fest (October 25, 2022 through November 1, 2022), ghosts will be haunting various locations in Solitaire Expeditions. In particular, they seem to really like taking up residence in Expedition mode:

However, the general population is not enjoying their presence and would really like it if you could vanquish them by winning games of solitaire in the haunted states.

So that's the trick, where's the treat?

When you successfully clear states of their spiritual occupation, you will receive Halloween themed card backs, backgrounds, and decks that will be yours to keep forever (or at least until you delete your profile).

After all, who wouldn't want their own Ghostmobile?

Follow up build to fix crash

Let's try this again! This is a re-release of the build from earlier tonight that fixes a fatal crash when trying to play Expedition mode (whoops!), plus some more fun stuff.

Change list:

  • Fixed crash when selecting a game in Expedition mode
  • Gaps: Fixed bug with rank labels not being updated after undo
  • Lady Betty: Fixed typo in rules
  • Added new deck, card back, and background

Temporary rollback of previous build

Someone reported a crash with the latest update, so I have rolled the game back to the previous version until I can sort out the bug.

3 new variants, 15 new card backs, and some other stuff

Things in today's update:

  • Added variant #158: Open Yukon - Rules are identical to Yukon except all cards start facing up
  • Added variant #159: Royal Penguin - Rules are identical to Penguin except that any card may be placed in an empty space
  • Added variant #160: Steps - Another 2 deck Klondike variant
  • Added 15 new card backs to unlock
  • Added search by name to the free play game list
  • Fixed bug with tooltip game stats not updating when restarting a game that has not been played before
  • Fanny/Frog/Fly: Fixed typo in rules
  • Colours: Changed difficulty rating from Medium to Very Hard
  • Corona: Changed diffculty rating from Very Hard to Hard
  • Gaps: Changed difficulty rating from Medium to Very Hard

Two new variants and less clicking

Variants #155 and #156: Tabby Cat and Manx

Today's new variants are from the Spider family. Both have a special pile called the 'tail', which can be used to store cards. In Tabby Cat, the tail can store a sequence of cards. In Manx, the tail can only store a single card, which makes it slightly more difficult.

Streamlining the main menu

As features have been added to the game over time, the main menu had become a bit...clunky. This menu has been redesigned so that things are accessible with fewer clicks.

New free play loss options

Continuing the theme of fewer clicks, two new buttons have been added the free play loss popup: Redeal and Restart. Redeal will shuffle and redeal the cards. Restart will let you retry the same deal that was just played. Game results will still be tallied and added to your stats, but you won't have to click through the game summary dialog.

Customizing random card backs and game backgrounds

The game has always had options to use a randomized card back and/or game background for each game. As you unlock more art, you might find that there are card backs or game backgrounds that you don't like. The random card back/game background feature has been enhanced to let you specify which ones to include in the randomized selection.

Minor bug fixes

  • Fixed Morning Finesse background thumbnail not being displayed
  • Fixed bug with not being able to click on some UI elements while a notification is active
  • Quadrangle: Fixed cards not being autoplayed to Tableau
  • Fixed application crash when using a non-default color profile in Windows
