Devlog #11: Upgraded gantry

Greetings, Fellow Mechanics!

It’s been a while since the Demo has been released and yet we still receive a lot of invaluable feedback from you! Thank you for that! Know that we take all your suggestions and reports into account and make use of them to turn Soyuz Constructors into a much better game!

We’re working on an update that will address some of the issues you encountered in the Demo. Once testing proves that it’s ready for a release, we’ll let you know. 🙂 Other than that, our focus has been on developing and expanding the game to a much more polished Prologue.

One of the things that has been included in the game is a gantry and we’d like to tell you about it today!

You might recall that gantry had been mentioned in one of earlier devlogs back when it was in the early stage of development.

In the end, it didn’t make an appearance in the Demo, but with more demanding engines coming in the Prologue, you’ll definitely need its help later on.

Very often, you’ll be assembling a major part of the engine in one place and only then you’ll be able to attach it to another part elsewhere. It’s not a problem when these parts are small, but we all know rockets are a huge construction and engines by themselves are also of considerable size.

Gantry allows you to carry heavy parts of the engine that are impossible to transport with human hands.

By pressing corresponding keys, you can move the gantry, lower the hook to pick up a part…

…Then raise it up again and move it where it’s needed…

…And at last, put it in the required place!

We hope this addition will improve immersion and make you feel like a true engineer!

Devlog #10: Improvements

Greetings, Fellow Constructors!

It’s been over a week since the Demo version of Soyuz Constructors has been released!

We’d like to thank each and every one of you who stopped by to try out our game. We know how difficult it was to choose from among so many hidden gems that have been unveiled during this year’s Steam Fest. That’s why we’re very happy that Soyuz Constructors found its way to your list. 😊

Your feedback has been very helpful and we’re constantly gathering your suggestions to improve the game. Improvements include bug fixes, additional translations and sounds, as well as improved model textures. That’s not all! There are also some other changes we’d like to show you in this devlog.

For starters, we made some changes to the UI of the Chapter menu. You can see the new UI below:

Some changes were also applied to the gameplay. We have fixed issues related to the basic mechanic of picking up and putting down objects. What is very important, we have introduced various ways of rotating the modules. You can now move the objects horizontally or vertically using the mouse. Hopefully, that will make the process of assembling progress more smoothly.

What’s more, pressing X will highlight the objects you need to successfully assembly engine modules.

We’ve been polishing some of the rooms you could see in the Demo. We have recently finished working on a lodge room, drafting room, a garage and a second assembling room. Another set of clothes has been left in your locker too. 🙂

Whatever suggestions you may have, feel free to leave them for us on Steam forums or on our Discord server! As Soyuz Constructors is in an early stage of development, your feedback helps us greatly to shape up the game into something great.

Thank you for your support so far and we hope you’ll accompany us on this journey. 🙂

Best Regards,
Soyuz Constructors Team

Devlog #9: Hangar

Greetings, Fellow Constructors!

After a few months we’re back with a new devlog! Our team has been hard at work further polishing the mechanics, as well as slowly shaping up the environment of the game.

In Soyuz Constructors, you’ll be spending hours in the vast hangar. gathering materials and building various rocket parts according to instructions. It was essential to craft your work environment with proper care, while paying attention to details. The process required gathering as many resources and references as we possibly could, and then creating designs based on them.

Today, we’d like to show you some results of our work. 🙂

Let’s start big – here is the aforementioned hangar. It’s big enough to fit in a few big rockets, so you can work comfortably without worrying about lack of space.

Of course, as great as it would be to know everything about rocket building right off the bat, many of us have yet to learn the ropes. You’ll receive all the help you need in the form of blueprints. These detailed drawings will tell you all you need to know regarding the engines you’ll have to build.

Blueprints can be placed on a drafting table, where you can take a closer look at them.

Once you’re more or less familiar with what you need to build, it’s time to grab all the necessary components! To pick up screws, you just need to find a tiny box like this one:

Every box represents a different type of screws, so you have to make sure to pick up the right one!

That’s it for today! There is still a lot of work to be done, and we’ll most likely have even more 3D models to show you in the next devlog. We are also preparing a tutorial – it will take a while, but once we wrap up the work here, we’ll be able to show you more of the gameplay. We can’t wait to let you explore the hangar by yourself! 🚀

Make sure to add the game to your Wishlist to receive a notification as soon as new information drops in! If you'd like to discuss the game with us, join our Discord server! We'd love to hear your feedback!

Devlog #8: More core mechanics improvements and a gantry

Dear Engineers!

Thank you for interest and checking out 8th devlog for Soyuz Constructors! Let’s jump straight to the interesting part. That is, recent development progress! 🚀

Currently, all of our efforts go into core mechanics of the game, to make sure we deliver the best gameplay experience possible! While your task in the game will be to build rocket engines with certain requirements, we would also like to give you some freedom during the process. Therefore, we’ve added some small but, as we believe, important changes.

Snapped parts will now fall off the core if you put weight on them without fastening them first. If only a few screws were holding the material in place, the impact of component tearing off the core will destroy these screws. Therefore, it’s best to not leave the work only half-done, as you can permanently lose some of your resources!

Does it mean there is a fixed order you have to follow while building your rocket engine? Not necessarily! If you join two parts together into one, you can snap it to the core part and take it away anytime, without damage to any of the screws.

Joining parts together creates a module, which from this point onwards works as a single part. It gives you more possibilities during your building process, as you don’t have to work on separate parts and join them one by one. Instead, you can combine many small parts into modules and make your job a little easier!

Another change is the addition of gantry!

You can use it to move around heavy parts in your workshop that would be impossible to move on your own. Did you finish assembling a module and would like to bring it closer to the other parts of your engine? Place gantry over it and move it!

Stay tuned for upcoming updates and if you would like to talk about the game, join our Discord Community! If you have any suggestions or ideas, don't hesitate to let us know!

Yours Sincerely,
Soyuz Constructors Team

Devlog #7: Rocket Engine Model

Dear Constructors!

Welcome to the 7th development update! This time, we would like to show you the model of the rocket engine RD 108/107!

Our 3d graphic designers modelled the rocket engine RD 108/107 based on the reference images they had priorly collected. They are still working on this model, so keep in mind that these renders don't represent the engine's final look.

Of course, the engine model will be realistic to some point; our 3d graphic designers have to simplify the model due to gameplay restrictions and optimization.

You're going to assemble this engine completely from scratch, so while assembling, you will be learning about the engine's components. Every constructor in the Soviet Space Program should know how the engine is built!

If you have any suggestions or ideas, don't hesitate to post them on our Discord server!

Devlog #6: Soyuz Constructors

Dear Constructors!

We've changed the name of our game to better reflect the game mechanics! Our soviet-era rocket builder is now called Soyuz Constructors! 🚀

Now let's move on to our recent progress! We are constantly working on game improvements. In this month we've been focusing on testing core mechanics in previously prepared internal pre-alpha build, mainly building a rocket and assembling.

In order to test building and assembling, we've added this giant rocket to the main construction hangar! We've also added more tools and devices!

What is more, we are still working on the new UI. Our UI designer prepared really nice concepts, and we're checking which of them will be the best!

Keep in mind that the game is still in development, and we’re sharing with you work in progress. There will be a lot of changes visible soon! Stay tuned for updates and feel free to share your suggestions on Steam Forum, or on our Discord server.

Kind Regards,
Soyuz Constructors Team
