- FIXED Weapon Loadout of player ships changed to default after leaving
- FIXED Hostile ships despawning when engaged in combat after escort contract ship has reached its destination
- FIXED Combat practice freeze/crash after player or his wingman are destroyed

Steam Next Fest with an updated demo!

Hello everyone!

Space Reign is taking part in the February edition of Steam Next Fest, with an updated demo available from this momemt (Monday) until its conclusion on 13.2.2023 19:00 CET (Monday).

New Features:


Large ships



First implementation of large ships has been added. These cannot be currently controlled manually, but they are ready to receive your orders in TACVIEW once you buy them and load them up with some guns from the first batch of turret-type weapons!

5 new frigate-sized ships include:

  • Mashar-class industrial frigate
  • Terigon-class multi-purpose frigate
  • Velaris-class multi-purpose frigate
  • Caiman-class combat frigate
  • Prowler-class combat frigate

Subsystem targeting



With large ships finally making it to the game, it only made sense for us to implement option to target and disable individual modules (currently engine and weapons) one by one, besides targeting and damaging just the hull itself.

You can do this after targeting any large ship and using the mouse wheel to cycle through them. Pressing cancel target key (Y) returns your targeting back to the main targeting mode.

Salvaging



As an alternative to completing contracts and claiming those juicy bounties, it is now possible to salvage ships wrecks and sell it for profit at a docking station while you are deployed in a sector.

All you need is a large ship fitted with a logistic drone bay module, find some ships wrecks, and let the drones to their job. Once they are finished, just order the ship to dock at a station and use the new trading window to sell it.

This module is the first of many we would like to have as a part in the advanced ship customisation, which will come later on. For now, it can be found by default on the Industrial and Multi-Purpose class frigates, available in this version.

In-sector resupply



Besides selling salvage from ship wrecks, fuel and ammo supplies can be bought at docking stations with ships that have a cargo hold (sorry fighters). You can then use these to resupply your fleet while it is still deployed in a sector, or you can directly resupply your ships at the stations for the same price.

This is also an important foundation for other cargo-related mechanics we would like to implement, such as raiding and looting transport ships, or supplying your faction outposts with resources in a sector to help you claim it.

Regarding ship repairs, you still have to leave the sector in order to get your fleet repaired, since we are still exploring several options on how to approach this.

  • Indica sector re-introduced as a low threat sector
  • Tactical overview UI has been polished a little and its functions rid of some unexpected behaviours, especially when issuing orders to player ships.
  • Audio and VFX update for new weapons and ships.
  • AI combat flight model and behaviour tweaks
  • Advanced command menu and 2 new switchable behaviour stances for ships: Close-Range and Long-Range combat modes
  • Automatic engine self-repair function
  • Updated ship customization UI (still heavily work in-progress)
  • RAM usage optimisation
  • Some general performance optimisations


Roadmap


We are working on a public roadmap for Space Reign to better share our vision and development priorities along the way, especially for Early Access release and onward.

Once ready, it will be shared on our discord and in the main menu as well.

Demo Hotfix 1

Some reported and discovered bugs are now fixed:

Fixes:

  • Game crash related to target selection using TAB key should not happen anymore
  • Razer cockpit interior visual glitches not visible anymore
  • Accepted Search and Destroy contract will not disappear after a while from the contract management window
  • Fast travel mode for allied units behaving incorrectly when following other ships
  • Sector map in fleet management screen now shows the status of sector objectives correctly


Changes:

  • Fuel for all player ships increased significantly since there is no refuel option in-sector yet

Livestream and Public Demo!

Czech And Slovak Games Week is just around the corner and with it comes our first public demo accompanied by developer streams here on Steam!



The Event


Third year of the Steam festival marks the 33th anniversary of an important day in history for the Czech and Slovak people, the Velvet Revolution, otherwise known as Gentle Revolution here in Slovakia.

We are proud to be featured among all these talented and hard-working people from the game development industry and all their wonderful games, so make sure to check out the entire event section!

The Event is scheduled to start on Monday 14.11.2022 at 19:00CET.

The Stream


We will be streaming Space Reign for the entire duration of the event here on Steam both live and using pre-recorded footage.

During the live stream, you will have the option to use the stream chat to ask us anything you would like to know about the game and its development.

Update 0.2, Steam Festival and Demo

Hello again,

We are back with a major update featuring many new mechanics and additions for Space Reign and also with some very important news to share with you.

The Update



Let's talk about the update and it's features first. The list of all the improvements and implemented mechanics is quite long, so let's get through the most impactful.

Dynamic Sector Gameplay




  • Main game mode and it's first iteration is finally up and running. Your goal is to capture one sector by increasing your influence and destroying the sector garrison, which is the foundation of core gameplay loop for Space Reign.
  • Sectors will be continuously filled with different mechanics and content as we continue with the development. So far we've implemented basic sector traffic, capturable control points and bounty system with universal credit currency to earn and spend for progress of your fleet.

Fleet Command




  • You can now issue basic orders to your ships in tactical view, providing you with ship commands like move, follow and attack. You can also change combat stances to automate their behaviour similarly to RTS games with defensive, aggressive and passive presets.
  • Tactical view has also been updated with additional information like faction, ship model and class, bounty, current status

Fast Travel mode




  • We have always wanted to have longer distances between individual points of interest, but this has not been possible due to the thrust power values we have set up in our flight model, which was up to this point developed with only one thing in mind. Combat. And while we are happy with the combat flight model and its overall feeling, it is time to introduce a new way to travel the sector more conveniently, which is where Fast travel mode (FT from now on) comes in.
  • Fast travel can be blocked by a ship when inside it's FT interference range - works for both the player and the AI

Ship Customization




  • Initial ship customization is here! Buy ships and different weapons for them on their individual hardpoints - only guns at the moment, launchers are currently pre-defined for each ship but the customization for them is coming soon. UI for this part of the game is still mainly functional, so expect a lot of improvement down the road.

  • First two tutorials dedicated to basic ship controls and combat are now available, with the third being developed for the upcoming public demo in order to guide in new players, since we understand that there are many different mechanics and perspectives in the game.
  • There is also going to be a in-game database for quick access to helpful information later on.


The Steam Festival


We are proud to announce that Space Reign is taking part in the upcoming Czech & Slovak Games Week steam festival in November! Yay! Since our team is based in Slovakia, it is truly an honor to be among these few, but talented studios and individuals.

And yes, a public demo wil be available along with development streams and updated steam page during this festival, so stay tuned!

Hello commanders.
We are back from the Game Access Conference 2022 in Brno (Czech Republic) where we had the honour of presenting Space Reign to fellow game developers and people from the industry. It was both a great and a fruitful experience, with a lot of useful feedback and many productive conversations.



We also have some good news for you, the update improving audiovisual experience and some minor tweaks to the UI is out! Even better, we are now switching our focus to ship customisation, paving the way to the main game mode of Space Reign.
