😃Patch #15 - Creative Mode!

Well it has been a hot minute 🔥 as they say! But we’ve finally had some time to set up an update for Spacefolk City that brings with it several features that players have been requesting!👷Read on 👀

Creative Mode! ⚒️



It’s finally here! 🏁 Spacefolk City has always had a Sandbox mode, allowing you to play without any specific objectives to complete, but our wonderful players have always requested a mode where they can just build freely, right from the get-go. Well, Chris has worked a little of his magic 🪄and set up for us a true Creative Mode 💡 where you can start a game with Scrap all ready to use. Each level has a warehouse holding a set amount of Scrap so you can just get right into some juicy construction, straight away. 🏃

We can’t wait to see what amazing cities you build with this! 😻

Interest Selection ✅



Another feature that players often request is the ability to choose which species of Folk are present in their cities at the start of each game. This is now made possible! Once you’ve encountered Folk for the first time, they will be available to choose when you start a new game in any level. You can finally make that freaky Mushroom Rock Banana Pizza mash-up you’ve always dreamed of. 🍄🎸🍌🍕

New Levels ✨



And finally, some new levels to play! 🕹️ These are available through the newly re-arranged Top Menu for players who have completed the initial Tutorial level.

Bug Fixes 🪲



Chris has also hunted down a few pesky bugs that were reported by players, so hopefully you should see some little improvements here and there.

🎄 Patch #13 - It’s Christmas Time!

Christmas Time!





🎅 It’s that time of year again! Christmas is fast approaching, and the cute Christmas Spacefolk are back! 🎁 We’ve prepared two nice snowy new levels for you to enjoy with them, including:


  • 🎄 A Christmas sandbox, as requested! 👂 Or… snowbox I guess? ⛄❓ Perfect for some holiday season fun and relaxation.
  • 🎄 Alex has also whipped up (it’s so easy you know) a special new Christmas track too! Yay music! 🎵


Chris has found some time for a little fine-tuning under the hood. Details below! 👀

🐛Bug fixes



  • Minor fixes to the Halloween levels
  • Issue with folk walking being disturbed when buildings were picked up
  • Facility sign icons that occasionally disappear should no longer do so
  • Sidewalk issues are now fixed; folk should now walk across them correctly
  • Minor improvements to the snow look!
  • The “Next” button on the radio now functions correctly for bonus levels

The spooky Halloween update is here - with a new interest and new levels!



Meet the new Halloween Folk and get your creative pumpkin juices flowing in three new fang-tastic levels. We hope you’ll enjoy the ghastly mood we’ve created for you… Along with it, there’s some smaller bug fixes - more information below!

🐛Bug fixes



  • Fixed an issue with folk sometimes not coming out of their homes
  • Fixed an issue where Stargazer folk rarely grab asteroids since they’re holding two items
  • Fixed an issue where folk occasionally stop walking around
  • Fixed an issue with ladders breaking after placed on a floating building
  • Folk no longer seek out scrap to build when they’re already holding scrap
  • Fixed issues with rotated boarded up doors
  • Folk no longer get tired after introducing themselves
  • Fixing some of the items that cause rotation when placed on other items
  • The green power indicator no longer stays in place after throwing away an unbuilt building
  • Stargazing folk no longer spin in place when you grab an asteroid they are trying to grab
  • Facility stocks no longer reset after saving and loading
  • Localization issues with camera for Chinese/Korean/Russian/Japanese fixed
  • Solar flares can no longer be blocked without defense beacons
  • Fixed issues with the information strip on buildings when dynamiting decorations on it
  • Fixed issues with flat items rays changing after duplicating them
  • Fixing some localization issues with the Pirate patch
  • Improvements have been made to the facility sign placement (still not perfect tho!)

AVAST!! X MARKS THE SPOT!! 🏴‍☠️



Blow me down and shiver me timbers, it finally be ‘ere! To celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day 2022, we’re happy to announce that our new update is shipshape and ready to set sail! Introducing a new folk species, the 🎉 PIRATE FISH! 🎉 Splice the mainbrace and pass out the grog! All hand hoy!


Sink me if these scallywags aren’t the cutest!

Build a Skill Facility to activate their special ability: they’ll dig for treasure and heave up a coffer of Scrap! To complement this, we’ve added some new levels that have fewer asteroids, so you’ll need to keep these seadogs busy digging up Scrap for your skullduggery! There’s also a new song Alex has whipped up for the occasion, aptly named “Pirate Fish”. It’s no sea-shanty, but it’s got a right smelly pirate funk about it!

✋ BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE ❗

We’ve also added a new camera for taking pictures of your cities! We love seeing your extraordinary city creations when you share them with us, so we wanted to make this easier. The camera has settings for aspect ratio and zoom, and because you can freely position it independent of your head, it’s now far easier to get great dramatic photos of your creations!



Photos are saved to the "Pictures" folder on your PC, ready to share!

🏠 Patch #10

It's patch time! This time it's not really a patch, but rather some little additions which we've been meaning to do for some time. Many of our wonderful players have requested more variety of building shapes, so Therese has gone ahead and designed a few new ones for you! We've also got some nice new platforms too. Read on! 👀

💡 New Features



  • New Building Shapes! Use your thumb stick or thumb pad to flick between different building shapes in the Shop. You'll now find some new interesting shapes there, ready for slotting in to your cities. 🏫🏢🏦🏭🏨

  • New Platforms! Therese has added a few more variations of platforms, to give you more creative options when building. As with the buildings, use your thumb stick or thumb pad in the Shop to scroll through them.

📈 Patch #9!

We are back with Patch #9! Once again this is a bug fix patch! No incredible new features 😞 but a load of bug fixes 😃 to things which our wonderful fantabulous players have reported on our Discord 📡 Thank you as always for your support!

💡 New Features



  • Not really a new "feature" per se, but Chris has made it a bit more intuitive when scrap is consumed from around the city. Now it will fly from around the city (or warehouses) to items you pull out of the store, just to make it more clear that pulling items from the store consumes scrap. 📉📈
  • Not really a new feature either, but trashed decor items now correctly return a portion of their scrap cost to the player! 💸
  • The largest facilities (that need 3 interests to work) are now locked until you actually have 3 interests - hopefully this will lead to less issues for new players! 🏢



👾 Bug Fixes



  • Fixed some issues with overly bright lights
  • Fixed an issue with homes losing their colouration if you remove or re-add decorations during construction.
  • Addressed some localisation errors.
  • Fixed a problem where a folk's home heart would never come back if you TNT'ed the home and then rebuilt it.
  • Fixed an issue with the “Has seen 5 items” heart disappearing
  • Fixed an issue with the “Been to Birthday party” heart not saving
  • Fixed a rare problem where folk would try and get scrap that had fallen into space.
  • Fixed an issue with the Warehouse job - folk now also collect scrap from Refineries properly.
  • Defence stations now correctly cease to function if the power station is destroyed.
  • Fixed an issue with Facility banners incorrectly displaying "Put Back" for certain decor items.
  • Changed behaviour of construction folk so they can again pull scrap from Warehouses even if they're not accessible.
  • Trashed decor items now correctly return a portion of their scrap cost to the player.
  • Fixed an issue with Defence Beacon folk continuing to work even after the Beacon was destroyed.

🎸 Patch #8!

We're happy to set Patch #8 loose on the world! Since the last patch we've been focussing primarily on bug fixing. All the bugs. OK, not all the bugs... but Chris & co. did a great job in getting through a decent chunk! ☁🧹

Sadly, no new features this time! 😞 We were previously planning on releasing a more substantial update with some fun new things, but that's going to need just a little more time in the oven I'm afraid🍞 Watch this space! 😃

👾 Bug Fixes



  • Fixed Facility signs on rotated buildings (some issues may still remain, but we're working on it!🚧)
  • Fixed an issue with folk getting stuck at Warehouse doors
  • Scrap can now be reliably pulled out of Warehouses
  • Added VFX to item enlarging, shrinking and duplicating
  • Facility hearts now correctly take into account power, decorations and destruction
  • Fixed a problem with Scrap exploding out of Warehouse
  • Corrected behaviour of Stamina boosts so that folk consistently stay awake longer
  • Fixed a problem with 2 folk trying to live together in the same home. 🤣
  • Separated Spiral Stairs and Half-Steps in store (OK not a bug, but thanks to our players for requesting this on our Discord!)
  • Fixed an issue with accessing the pause menu on SteamVR with a Quest via Airlink
  • Fixed a problem with the "Put Back" banner remaining even after a decoration is returned to a building
  • Fixed a problem with scrap sometimes appearing under the Spaceport
  • Art platforms can now be resized correctly
  • Fixed an issue with folk climbing on the inside of some ladders
  • Ensured that the cheeky Magpie UFO can't steal scrap directly from folk 🛸
  • Fixed an issue with items folk get inside Facilities momentarily appearing outside the Facility

🌞 Patch #7!

It's been a hot minute since our last post, but we're back with another fairly extensive bug-fix update! 🛠 Chris and co. have been hard at work to address a few of the smaller niggles that our lovely players have noticed, as well as some other ones which have been flying under the radar. 📡

There is one nice new addition though, which should help open up some new layout possibilities! Read on! 👇👀

💡 New Features




Half-Steps! You asked for them and here they are! Half-steps open up a range of simpler solutions to spatial problems, allowing you to make full use of half-sized height differences between floors. You can also attach stairs to stairs, but stairs must always be connected to some part of the city, so no building the stairway to heaven off into deep space, I'm afraid 🤣 But this has been something players have requested for some time, so it's great to finally have them in!


Sleep Indicators We've added indicators above Folks' heads that show when they're tired and wanting to go home to sleep. This information was previously visible in the folk UI panel (visible when you pick up a folk), but having it show all the time will hopefully make it easier to understand what's going on when folk are too sleepy to cooperate! 🛏💤

👾 Bug Fixes



  • Fixed a problem with the bus not bringing new folk in some situations
  • Fixed some localisation problems
  • Fixed a problem with the banana slide not working if you take it from a folk
  • Fixed overlapping speech bubbles
  • Fixed issues with the spatial location of asteroid stretching and popping sounds
  • Ladders have placement rays emitted perpendicular to their direction
  • Fixed an issue with folks prioritising interacting with items over their jobs. If a folk is heading to interact with something rather than doing their job, you can now drag them to a doorway of their job assignment to... "erm... "politely coerce" them into working instead 😆
  • Fixed an issue where TNT wouldn't appear in Interest Shop pages
  • Fixed some cases of lag occurring when moving items on buildings
  • Added a missing birthday ability sound! 🎉
  • Folk should not get additional items from buildings if they're already holding one
  • Ensured that you can not build on top of clouds
  • Fixed a problem with all folk simultaneously having thoughts on load of savegames
  • Other performance optimisations and miscellanous fixes to folk behaviour


All being well, our next update should be a bit more substantial in terms of new features! Stay tuned! 👀

Patch #6 🧹

Spring is upon us (at least here in the northern hemisphere!) and the time is right for some Spring cleaning ☁🧹 This update we focussed on bug fixing and tightening things up on the backend 🔧

We do have two new little features for you though, to expand on the multiple save-game functionality added last month. Details below 👀

💡 New Features



  • Folk Species on Title You can now see which Folk types you’ve found throughout all your play sessions on the title menu. Handy for the inner-collector in all of us!


  • Save Game Objectives Save game slots now also show you which objectives you've completed.


👾 Bug Fixes



  • Fixed Art Folks’ broken speech bubble line when their ability is activated.
  • Fixed VFX issues with Folks’ abilities.
  • Fixed an issue with some Folks’ Interest titles being grammatically incorrect during their intros.
  • Decorative items now correctly explode if TNT is attached to them.
  • Fixed endless parties from the Birthday Folk if you pick them up during their party. 😆
  • Fixed an issue on Oculus Rift where new games were overwriting the Slot 1 save game.
  • The correct SFX is now triggered when new Folk arrive in the city.
  • The correct SFX is now triggered when you expand, compress or duplicate items.
  • Reduced volume of Folk ability activation SFX
  • Fixed folk facing the wrong way when working at Refineries
  • Fixed an issue with the stretching sound continuing to play if you let go of an asteroid with one hand while stretching.

We're doing our best to keep up with the bugs and get the game where it needs to be! We have some other improvements and additions on the way too, so watch this space 👀
