"In the town of Hollow's End, nestled between whispering woods and misty mountains, legends spoke of Jack Torment. Centuries ago, Jack was a revered guardian of the village, appointed to protect the town's sacred rituals that celebrated the thinning veil between worlds during All Hallows' Eve.

However, one fateful Halloween night, amidst a powerful ritual intended to strengthen the barrier between realms, something went horribly wrong. A coven of ambitious witches sought to harness the ritual's energy to gain power over time itself. But their greed disrupted the delicate balance of the ceremony.

The protective energies meant to shield the town instead fused with Jack, morphing him into a monstrous figure with a pumpkin for a head, glowing with the very essence of the spirit world. His once noble intent was twisted, consumed by the energies of the corrupted ritual, turning him into an entity hell-bent on breaching the barrier he once protected.

Each Halloween, as the veil between the worlds thins, Jack Torment rises, seeking souls to empower his goal of permanently melding the two realms and reigning over the resulting chaos. The control settings have been changed, so there's a chance that your WASD movement may break. You need to go to settings - controls - reset. Or, go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\SPAT\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor and delete the 'inputs' file.

The weapon system has also been modified, and now you need to purchase weapons. Therefore, to avoid conflicts, it is recommended to delete your saved files and lose progress (a wipe, so to speak). I apologize for this inconvenience. However, I promise that this is the last such change where you will lose progress. I won't make any more adjustments to this system.

Weapon



  • The weapon and equipment acquisition system has been changed – since our SPAT squad members are essentially mercenaries, all items are now purchased using in-game currency (depicted as skull icons and called cryptid credits). Please note that not all items will be available from the start; some will be locked (indicated by a padlock icon), gradually unlocking as you progress.
  • After the changes have been made, the game saves have been modified. Therefore, you need to delete your saved games (they are located at C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\SPAT\Saved).
  • A new gear section, "additional," has been added, offering various useful gadgets. The first addition is an extra pouch for ammo, providing +1 magazine capacity. A very handy addition.
  • A new section has been introduced for selecting the player's appearance. There are a total of 12 skin options to choose from.
  • Drone special is back.
  • A new section has been added: purchasing appearance customization.



Monsters




  • Alpha monsters attack multiple times instead of retreating after the first strike. Therefore, their damage has been reduced by 10 percent to make it more challenging.
  • At night there are more werewolves than brainers

UI




  • I've revamped the main menu and fixed various issues with it:
  • The button controls in the menu are now assigned correctly.
  • The option to switch between WASD has been added.
  • Audio settings work correctly and are saved.
  • The "Ready" button has been removed from the gear selection screen. This change was made to avoid player confusion, as they might mistake it for a confirmation button, while in reality, it's used to proceed to mission selection.

BUG FIXES




  • Fixed a bug when buying a weapon and choosing it is not available for customization.
  • Fixed the backward running animation that was causing player jerking when moving backward.
  • Fixed a bug that the bot does not mark quest items in the witch quest.
  • Fixed bug with changing screen resolution settings.

The main thing in this update is the opening of a test for a new map - swamplands. There is only one quest so far and a lot of things on the map have not been completed, so keep this in mind.

CHANGELOG



Weapon




  • First SMG gun added - PP91 KEDR. High rate of fire and excellent ergonomics, but less damage.



  • New equipment has been added - a flash hider, a special muzzle attachment that increases damage by 10%. Available at level 7.
  • Also new equipment - stubby forward grip which reduces vertical spread by 20%. Available at level 5.
  • Changed the sequence of opening equipment and others. Since there are a lot of things, 2 new items are opened at each level.
  • Head damage increase from x1.3 to x1.4
  • Fixed that you can aim special weapons.
  • Added light from player shots.
  • Added shutter animation on some weapons.
  • Switching to the main weapon immediately after using the special one.

Monsters




  • New monster - zombie. So far, only on the new map of the swamp. Slow and dull, easily killed. If provoked, it also alerts other zombies around. For a change, some zombies randomly run fast.



  • The monster immediately runs to investigate the sound, instead of completing the current movement.
  • Monsters now can destroy doors (swamp map).
  • At night, after the sound of the bell, you have some time to hide, because after that a wave of monsters will appear.
  • Brainer on the new map hears farther and throws projectiles from 45 meters.

Map




  • New swamp lands map in test mode added. Here you can find some interesting locations:

    A small fishing village, complete with run-down shacks and boats, where the fishermen tell tales of strange creatures in the swamp. The fishing village was founded by settlers who made their living from the swamp, but strange creatures started appearing and many of the villagers disappeared.




    A rundown and isolated house located on the side of the road, seemingly abandoned and left to decay. Despite the unkempt appearance, there are signs of recent activity, including vehicles and various tools scattered around the property.



  • An instructor has been added to the shooting range from whom you can get useful advice.

Bots




  • Increased bot damage from 6.5 to 7.
  • Increased bot RPM.

Sound




  • M4A1 fire sounds changed.
  • Reduced the sound range of the steps of the bot.
  • Added sound for the player turning on the flashlight


UI




  • Something I didn’t think about at all, but some players complained that reading letters takes a lot of time and they cannot be skipped, so now there will be a separate widget for letters (only on the new map).



  • Ingame menu on escape button disabled on creating a character (fixed bug when you hit escape and then mouse cursor gone).

BUG FIXES




  • Chat not opened.
  • The weapon was removed from the collisions of the corpses of operatives and various other items.
  • The silver weapon from the werewolf quest didn't deal damage.
