Update 89 - MMO mode LIVE!
Hey Everyone,
We have a VERY exciting week ahead of us as we launch the 89th update and 0.90 milestone updates. These updates greatly expands and streamline the foundation of the game going from a server-based PC game to a cross-platform MMO experience (we are still fully supporting dedicated servers).
This Monday we have launched two global MMO server one for PvE and one for PvP. Having redone out network to be nearly 5x more efficient, we can now support hundreds of players in one location on MMO servers.
As part of adding MMO mode, we have migrated all players assets from all our previous 5 PvE servers to the new MMO server. To access your inventory from old PvE servers - simply login to MMO GLOBAL SERVER and visit "Items from all Servers" Bank Terminal - located at Cryo Ship, Orbital Station market or General Store in Clayton – Beta Prairie.
Please keep in mind that if you had multiple characters we have combined all your assets. All your vehicles and inventory items were transferred as is, but some items had to be been converted into credits (as some players had multiple characters with literally thousands of items). The credits you now have can be used to purchase everything you need in one of the many market locations in the game world - like on the Orbital Space Stations.
In addition Stars End now supports cross-platform plays, and as Stars End is about to be launched on Stores like Epic, Windows and GoG, and later this year on consoles from Playstation to Xbox, all the players will be able to play together on the same servers.
This update includes a lot of other great feature and additions. And we can`t wait to share the 0.90th update later this week, including more amazing stuff like Steam Deck, controller support, new languages, and fix for last remaining game breaking issues.
And this is just a beginning - With MMO server, cross-platform, and controller support in place this week we can shift all our focus on improving games visuals, animations, improving UI and rolling out major new content. New vehicles, new NPCs, territorial warfare, improving other planets and greatly improving graphics. With all the big foundation projects out of the way, we are returning to weekly updates moving forward.
Note on Offline Solo/Self Hosted: We had a lot of requests to separate the two game mode characters, so we listened and done just that. Now you can have two offline characters. Please keep in mind that as you load into the game your offline solo character might show up in the Self Hosted section instead of Offline Solo now.
Note on Offline Solo Bugs: For a few players still experiencing bugs with offline singleplayer - like your base being in space, loosing items e.t.c - please delete this file C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Reverie World Studios\Stars End\starsend.s4u. This will fix all these issues for good.
Now lets take a close look at what the 0.89th update brings. Please keep in mind that there were hundreds of fixes, and additions, so we`ll only list the biggest changes here:
MMO approach for official servers – new online mega server can support up to 300 players online at once in one area (up from 50 before)
All official PvE servers are combined into one MMO PvE server - All players from all servers will keep all of their possessions - no progress lost or data wipe
Total rework of the offline and online database code, making it several times more efficient – which allows us to link the servers together
Player playing Stars End on different platforms like Epic, GoD or Windows Store are now able to play together on the same game servers/mmo servers
Offline Solo and Self Hosted sections now have separate characters, deleting one will no longer effect the other one
Reworked database fixes large number of issues that previous builds of the game had
Reworked player leaving and entering planet atmosphere for much better and seamless visual experience
Major performance improvements both in space and on the ground
Got rid of all network lag, and certain tasks take a fraction of a seconds instead of several seconds to complete
Including fixes for items duping or disappearing, accessing containers, loosing vehicles and more
Fixed all issues with containers
Fixed various issues when creating a base without creating a crew first
