Next update: "Back in Black", featuring free units & 2v2 Attack/Defense

The seventh free update for Steel Division: Normandy 44, "Back in Black", will be available next week, and will feature 6 new units, 2v2 Breakthrough Attack/Defense scenarios, and more! Let’s have a sneak peek.

Free unit pack
It’s not 4 (like initially planned in the content roadmap), but 6 new units that you will be able to deploy on the battlefield:

Axis:

  • 10,5cm leFH-18/40 auf GW Lorraine Schlepper(f) (21. Panzer), self-propelled howitzer

  • Volontaires (2ème Division Blindée) - partisans & individuals volunteers that joined the “Leclerc’s Boys”
  • Ox & Bucks (6th Airborne) - Airlanding squads

Keep an eye on our blog tomorrow, more information about these new units is coming!

Free 2v2 Breakthrough Attack/Defense
Well… It’s pretty self-explanatory, right? Since the release of the 4 1v1 Breakthrough Attack/Defense scenarios, we received countless messages asking for 2v2 versions. In “Back in Black”, you will be able to play two of them in this mode:

  • Offensive on Cheux
  • Assault on Colombelles Steelwork

Both will be available in Axis Attack and Allied Attack. If you want to know more about Breakthrough, there is a pretty informative article about it in our blog.

Balancing and more
We also have been working, with selected members of the community, on balancing the game, focusing on adjusting Second Wave's divisions even if the main game divisions will also have some slight changes.

We are also adding a “save game” option to Attack/Defense scenarios, and, as always, fixing remaining bugs.

“Back in Black” will be available next week.

Next update: Ace of Spades, featuring Attack/Defense and new Aces

“Ace of Spades” is the sixth free update for Steel Division: Normandy 44. It will feature not one, but two of the free content announced in our roadmap: two cosmetic Aces and the first Attack/Defense scenarios. Let’s check what it’s all about.

Free Attack/Defense scenarios: In Breakthrough, the first available Attack/Defense set of scenarios, the Attacker only controls a small portion of the field during the deployment phase, and his mission is to take and hold the objective. On the other side, the Defender controls the largest part of the map at the beginning of the game, and must retain control of the objective and inflict enough losses to the Attacker’s forces.

While playing an Attack/Defense scenario, you will no longer receive your requisition points every minute, but get all the phase’s points at the beginning of this one. You will be able to play Breakthrough in solo and multiplayer. Breakthrough situations will be available in 1v1 on 4 variants of existing maps, playable both in attack and defense.

Check the blog article dedicated to Breakthrough right here!

Free Ace pack: This pack introduces two new exclusive ace models:

  • For the 3rd Armored, Lafayette 'Wardaddy' Pool: the greatest American tank ace up to this day with 12 confirmed tank kills and another 258 armored vehicles destroyed.
  • For the 91. Luftlande, Alexander Uhlig: the first paratrooper to join I. Bataillon/Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 1.

Keep a look on our blog, MadMat will have a lot to tell about these two aces.

Ace of Spades will also feature a bunch of fixes and a couple of new features, which will be detailed on release, on October 26th.

To get a closer look at what's coming!

Next update: "Closer", featuring a new game mode

“Closer”, the next free update for Steel Division: Normandy 44, will be available on September 21st, alongside the Second Wave DLC.

Here’s the content of this upcoming update, still developed with the help of selected members of our community:

  • New game mode: “Closer Combat”, as announced in the content roadmap. Do you want to know more about this one? Well, just scroll down!
  • Remastered first campaign mission: we have made some serious adjustments to make it a bit more accessible for newcomers. It kinda felt a bit too much stressful and complex for a first mission. The first timer to seize Audouville has been removed, there is now one single deployment zone, and the general pace of the mission has been revamped. Don’t worry, completing the secondary objectives are still a good challenge, and the other missions of the campaign remain unchanged.
  • New shortcut to toggle “Slow-mo” in Single Player: No need to click like hell to get more time to plan your actions, just press a key (“P” or “K”, depending on your profile, can be changed in the options), and you’re all set.
  • Custom 4v4 games will now automatically be hosted on official dedicated servers instead of peer-to-peer, to help reducing lags.
  • More balancing, more bug fixing...

Let’s have a look to the “Closer Combat” mode:

Based on the Conquest Mode, it aims to make the beginning of the battle more authentic by restricting the vehicle rush to the center of the map. We wanted to give more space to the preparation phase, in order to give you more time to define your strategy and more control on unit placement.

In Closer Combat mode:

  • All transported units can be purchased and deployed without its vehicle. Of course, you won’t bear the cost of the armed transports.
  • Deployment zones are way closer from each other than in other modes.
  • You start to earn points once you control 52% of the battlefield instead of 51%.

Just 6 days left until the release of this fifth update and Steel Division: Normandy 44 - Second Wave DLC. In the meantime, you could keep an eye on Youtube/Twitch, We've heard some streamers and youtubers will have the opportunity to get their hands on this new mode...

Meet our new officers for France, UK and USA.

And here’s a new thumbnail for the Fs-Scharfschütze.

As previously announced in our forums, we have more plans for Steel Division: Normandy 44, and we couldn’t recommend you enough to keep your eyes open. An announcement is coming.

Next update: The Division Bell

The next update for Steel Division: Normandy 44, poetically named The Division Bell, will be published next week. As previously announced, this new patch, still developed with the help of selected members of our community, focuses almost exclusively on balancing.

Our aim is to bring more diversity in division choice for competitive play while restoring a better balance between Axis and Allied in larger games.

To achieve the first goal we’re tweaking almost all the divisions. Some of the weakest, like the 716. Infanterie for example, will see some of their units reduced in price; while some others, like the 352 Infanterie, will receive some veteran units in small numbers. On the other side, the 3rd Armored and the Guard Armoured will get a big boost to help the Allied to stand their ground against the superior late game German tanks.

These are just few examples of what’s to come. As usual, you’ll have all the detail you want when The Division Bell update is released.

See you next week!
