As you all probably know by now, we’ve been working hard on the sequel, Strange Antiquities! So, if you’ve been planning on delving into our first adventure in Undermere, this might be your shot.
As we celebrate the third anniversary of Strange Horticulture, we want to take a moment to reflect on this incredible journey and share our heartfelt gratitude. When we first started developing a game about a little plant shop nestled in the mysterious town of Undermere, we couldn’t have imagined how deeply it would connect with all of you.
Your support, curiosity, and passion have made these three years unforgettable.
It’s been truly humbling to see Strange Horticulture grow, finding its way to new platforms and players around the world. From PC to the Nintendo Switch, to Xbox and PlayStation, to eventually even making its way to mobile, the game has reached a wider audience than we ever dreamed of. Along the way, it’s been recognized with kind words from critics and players alike, and the stories you’ve shared with us mean so much. Whether it was playing along with a parent, child, or partner, diving into the world of Undermere to help you through a tough time, or playing through multiple times to unlock every ending, your adventures have made this world come alive.
We’re also thrilled to be working on the next chapter of this journey: Strange Antiquities. Many of you already know about this standalone sequel, and we’re so excited to dive deeper into what you can expect.
For the ones that don’t know yet:
Set several years after the events of Strange Horticulture, Strange Antiquities takes you back to Undermere, but this time, you’ll run a shop stocked with occult antiques. As the apprentice of a Thaumaturge, your role will be to identify and explore mysterious artifacts, each holding secrets and stories of their own. The game keeps the immersive puzzle-solving spirit of Strange Horticulture while introducing new ideas, new characters, and an intriguing new mystery unfolding outside the cosy confines of your shop.
As we continue working on Strange Antiquities, we’re reminded every day that none of this would be possible without your support. Your passion for Strange Horticulture inspires us to create experiences that are just as immersive, mysterious, and meaningful. We can’t wait to share more details with you in the coming months, and we hope you’ll join us for this next chapter.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to three wonderful years of Strange Horticulture and the exciting adventures ahead with Strange Antiquities!
We definitely hit some Bad Viking milestones in 2024 and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved this year. We brought Strange Horticulture to a few new platforms – you can now identify plants and help the residents of Undermere on the go and on your couch – and worked hard on watering the seeds of our return to dark and eerie Undermere.
And it’s exhilarating to see your enthusiasm and excitement about the sequel. From the teasers back in June, to the art contest, to the gameplay reveal trailer we released last week, working on Strange Antiquities has been an electrifying experience. We cannot wait to show you more in 2025.
For now, we’ll settle down for a bit – enjoy the end of the year and celebrate with the family. We’re wishing you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. 2025 is going to be a good one.
Strange Antiquities: Catch a First Look at the Sequel’s Gameplay!
Dear Horticulturists,
After teasing you all a few weeks ago, we’re beyond excited to share the first in-depth look at the gameplay of Strange Horticulture’s upcoming sequel, Strange Antiquities.
A few weeks ago, we got together in an old candle-lit cottage and tried to recreate some of the atmosphere from the game – rustic shelves, old maps, and as many strange-looking antiques as we could find (as well as a soft toy of Hellebore!) to talk about what you can expect from the standalone sequel.
In this gameplay reveal trailer, you’ll get a first in-depth look at the mechanics in the standalone sequel. It’ll still feel like Undermere with its cosy rain-soaked atmosphere and darkly mysterious undercurrent – but with new challenges, new puzzles, and new approaches. What new feature are you most excited about?
We hope you’re as excited to return to the streets of Undermere as we are,
We've been tinkering on a little something that will be sprouting in the world of Strange Antiquities soon. We hope you’re excited!
EMBED The reveal will be this December, and no, it’s not a release date just yet.
A Steep Discount!
We also want to point out that Strange Horticulture is currently 70% off. If you’ve been tempted to find out what mysteries lie beneath the soil of Undermere, this is your moment. Intrigue, wonder, and perhaps a touch of magic await you.
Not only will this give access to the first story in the world of Undermere, but it will also help you get excited for Strange Antiquities.
Stay tuned for more, and make sure to wishlist Strange Antiquities to stay up to date!
Strange Horticulture x Potion Craft: The Herbalists Bundle is now live!
Dear Horticulturists,
We’ve collaborated with the folks over at niceplay games and we’re excited to announce that the Herbalists Bundle is now available!
Bundling up with Potion Craft just made sense to us. In both games, you run a shop helping locals with their supernatural needs.
Potion Craft is an alchemist simulation game where you engage hands-on with tools and ingredients to create potions to help the population of your small town. You manage every aspect of the shop from inventing unique recipes to drawing in customers!
The potions you brew pair perfectly with the occult mysteries you’ll encounter in Strange Horticulture, our occult puzzle game in which you play as the proprietor of a local plant store. Find and identify new plants, pet your cat, speak to a coven, or join a cult. Use your collection of powerful plants to influence the story and unravel Undermere’s dark mysteries.
As some of you might know, we’ve been hard at work on Strange Antiquities, the follow-up to Strange Horticulture! For this edition of the Undermere Herald, our monthly dev blog, we’ve come up with an exciting community activity to celebrate the upcoming release of the game!
While we’re incredibly excited to have you all explore the dusty shelves in the near future, the outside of Undermere’s antique shop remains shrouded in mystery. We want to know what you think it’d look like!
The Contest:
Using any medium — be it watercolor, wood carving, fabric, or something entirely unexpected — we invite you to design the storefront of Strange Antiquities. What do you imagine its facade would reveal about the secrets it keeps inside?
Send us your artistic creation at contest@badviking.com by November 15th. The winner will be announced at the end of November and, naturally, they’ll be rewarded with a secret, exclusive prize.
