The Young Commander, Ed, joins Street Fighter V!

Welcome Shadaloo minions!

We are happy to announce the third Season 2 Street Fighter V character, Ed. As mentioned in our previous blogpost about the next CFN Beta, Ed and all previously released characters will be playable for all beta participants for the duration of the test.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXnXrHiR4Cs

At a young age, Ed was kidnapped and experimented on by S.I.N., a division of Shadaloo, in order to become a replacement body for M. Bison. Many of you might remember a young Ed appearing in Rose’s Street Fighter IV story and Balrog’s story in Super Street Fighter IV. Due to the experiments, Ed’s body ages faster than normal humans until they are old enough to be suited for battle. Since Balrog raised Ed, his fighting is centered on boxing but since he carries M. Bison’s genes, his fighting style is enhanced by Psycho Power.

Ed and Balrog in Super Street Fighter IV

Night after night he is troubled by Bison's ghost, and struggles desperately to prevent M. Bison from possessing his body. Be sure to check out his character story to find out more!

V-Skill: Psycho Snatcher

Ed releases Psycho Power from his palm, pulling himself or opponents depending on how long he charges it up.

V-Trigger: Psycho Cannon

With a full V-meter, Ed releases an enormous amount of Psycho Power. He can follow alongside it, allowing him to pepper in shots when it connects with the opponent.

Critical Art: Psycho Barrage

Ed lunges forward with a series of punches. If at any point he connects, he’ll continue weaving around the opponent, slipping in quick combinations of Psycho-punches ending with a powerful uppercut.

What makes Ed especially unique is how players perform his special moves. His special moves have simple inputs; they only require simultaneous button presses, repeatedly pressing a button, or holding down a button. Only Ed’s Critical Art is done by inputting a traditional motion.

Also coming alongside Edare his Story and Premium Battle costumes.

Don’t forget, the Season 2 Character Pass is available for $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99 and will grant pass holders with Akuma, Kolin and Ed in addition to three brand new fighters to be announced later this year. The pass comes with Premium Battle Costumes with colors 3-10 unlocked and default costume colors 3-10 for each character. Additionally, Season 2 Character Pass holders will receive an exclusive PS4 theme!

In the coming weeks, you’ll learn even more about Ed, including his release timing so stay tuned! For the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Work Costumes Coming to Street Fighter V!

It’s time to punch in for work!

In our previous blogpost, we mentioned school costumes are coming to Street Fighter V for Ryu, Chun-Li and Juri, alongside the remastered Thailand stage.

That’s not all as we have three more work-themed costumes coming on the same day for Alex, R. Mika and Chun-Li. The team created these by thinking what sort of jobs would the characters have, if they weren’t fighting?

Alex is all warmed up; paying tribute to the brave men and women of his hometown with a firefighter costume. We think we could make an entire calendar of just screenshots of Alex in this costume.

R. Mika, the Rainbow Bomber, is utilizing her vocal prowess and fighting spirit in a cheerleader costume. In case you’re wondering, the pom-poms can be taken off.

Chun-Li dons business attire, ready to tackle any meeting. Between Chun-Li’s work costume and Kolin’s nostalgia costume, who would you want to work with?

For those who want to rock the workplace, these costumes join the previously announced School Costumes and will be available on April 25th for $3.99 / ¥400 / €3.99 each.

Street Fighter V CFN Beta Test Results and Season 2 Balance Update

Hey everybody!

Thank you to everybody who took the new Capcom Fighters Network (CFN) and the new Season 2 Balance Updates for a spin during the PC Beta Test. We wanted to give everybody an update on the current status of these and the next Season 2 DLC character.

We are happy to announce the test has allowed us to make further adjustments to optimize the new CFN. We know you’re all very eager for the new CFN but we also want to ensure it meets all of our expectations before it officially launches. In order to help us get the new CFN to where it needs to be, we are looking into conducting an additional Beta Test soon. In case you missed what the new CFN entails, check out our previous blogpost here.

For the potential additional Beta Test, current and new players will be able to participate in the beta for FREE and all released characters will be unlocked for play for the duration of the test, including the next Season 2 DLC character. The identity of the new Street Fighter V character will be revealed soon.

Also, closely tied to the new CFN are the new Season 2 Balance Updates and the next Season 2 DLC Character. For the full list of balance changes, check out our previous blogpost here. These additional balance changes and the next Season 2 DLC character were originally planned to launch at the end of April. Since both of these were developed under the new CFN infrastructure, they have to release alongside the new CFN when it is ready.

More details and the exact timing of the next CFN Beta Test will be announced in the coming weeks. Thank you all once again for helping us make the new CFN the best it can be.

There is still to-be-announced content coming to Street Fighter V at the end of April. For the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Return to Thailand! – Thailand Stage Remastered and School Costumes Coming to SFV April 25th

Hey World Warriors!

As revealed at our WonderCon 2017 panel, the iconic Thailand Stage has been remastered and is making its debut in Street Fighter V. The Thailand Stage is where we all first met M. Bison, the evil dictator and head of Shadaloo, in Street Fighter II.

The stage’s intricate bell and statues have been carefully recreated in SFV with great detail, as well as the stage’s memorable theme.

Below are some concept art sketches from the team. We even explored a night time version of the stage, dramatically lit with candles but ultimately chose to stay true the original stage as much as possible.

The Thailand Stage will be available on April 25th for $3.99 / ¥400 / €3.99. It is also available for 70,000 Fight Money.

Also revealed at our WonderCon 2017 panel and on the Street Fighter Academy Quiz on April Fools, we are happy to unveil concept art and the final in-game look for the three premium school costumes for Ryu, Chun-Li and Juri.

Ryu’s costume is based on a stereotypical Japanese Bancho (student gang leader) with direct input from a team member who actually used to wear clothes like this when he was younger. The lining on his coat depicts a faceoff between a Dragon and a Tiger.

Keeping with the atmosphere of her origin, Chun-Li’s costume represents her as an Honor Roll student. She only has the highest standards for herself and always aims to be the top of her class.

As you can see, Juri really pulls off the black lipstick and nails. The team had a lot of fun creating a Gothic schoolgirl look for her. We especially love the spider on the back of her jacket!

For those who want to rule the schoolyard, each costume will also be available on April 25th for $3.99 / ¥400 / €3.99.

More new content for April is on the way, so stay tuned for more. For the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

REMINDER-The New CFN PC Beta Test Starts Today!

Hello again Online World Warriors!

This is a reminder that today marks the beginning of the new Capcom Fighters Network PC Beta Test. Players will be able to help test out the new CFN servers and get a preview of the upcoming Season 2 Balance Updates. For full details on both, check out our previous blogposts here and here. Once again, this new beta test will be limited to Steam users only, but will be completely FREE to play for both current and new players.

Please note, we had previously announced that settings would carryover between Training Mode sessions. This feature is still planned for when the new CFN launches, but will be disabled during the PC Beta. Since the PC beta will only feature online modes, Training Mode will not be testable at this time. We apologize for any confusion. After the jump you will find the full beta schedule.

Several times during the beta test, there will be scheduled server maintenance to ensure everything is running smoothly and so we can apply hotfixes as needed. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we put the new CFN through its paces. Below is a full schedule of when the servers are open for play. All times are listed as Pacific Time (PT) and are subject to change.

3/28 1PM-11:59PM: PC Beta starts and servers open for play

3/29 1PM-11:59PM: Servers open for play

3/30 1PM – 4/3 12:59PM: Servers open for play

A New CFN Is Coming Your Way!

Hello Online World Warriors!

We mentioned back in January that the team had been hard at work for several months to improve Capcom Fighters Network (CFN) and we are very happy to share with you more details on the improved CFN system.

We understand that Street Fighter V’s server performance has been a less than optimal experience for many of our players. The improved CFN experience is the result of rebuilding it from the ground up to address the most pressing issues that will ultimately result in a better online experience.

That said, we want to collect feedback and ensure everything is optimized for launch. We will be giving PC players a sneak peek of what’s to come while putting the new CFN through its paces with an official PC Beta Test.

The new CFN PC Beta Test will start on 3/28 at 1pm PDT and will end on 4/3 at 12pm PDT. It will be limited to Steam users only, but will be completely FREE to play for both current and new players.

Since this beta is to test our new online infrastructure, it will only feature Online Modes. The beta is entirely separate from the base PC client but players’ current CFN username, rank, standing and other details will carry over to the beta client. For new players, they will be able to download the PC client for free and set up a new CFN profile to play for the duration of the test. All data recorded during the beta is for testing purposes only and once the beta has concluded, all replays, Fight Money earned, progress and player data will be deleted. To encourage players to participate in the beta test, all released characters, including Kolin will be unlocked for play.

If that wasn’t enough to get you to try it out, we are also going to give PC Beta Testers a sneak peek at our Season 2 Balance Adjustments. The full list of adjustments can be found in our previous blogpost here. Once the test is concluded, we’ll make further adjustments to optimize the new CFN and it will make its full release on both PC and PS4 shortly after.

Here is a list of improvements you can expect with the new CFN:

Rage Quit Penalty System

Back in December, we implemented an update to the Rage Quit System which displayed a special Player Profile Icon for the worst offenders and the most honorable players. These icons are working correctly now and matchmaking logic now takes into account your online behavior and frequent disconnectors will be matched with similar opponents.

Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times

We understand many players were not happy with the load times when entering online matches. There will now be a shorter transition when going into a Ranked or Casual Match.

Battle Lounge Country Flags

Country flags should now properly load in Battle Lounges, allowing players to locate competition in their region.

Training Mode – User Settings Saved

Training Mode settings are now saved and will carry over to the next time the mode is accessed.

Matchmaking Improvements

It should now take less time to find an opponent in online matches. We’ve also added logic which avoids frequently being matched with the same opponent repeatedly.

Fighter Profile Stats

More detailed stats will be tracked and presented on your Fighter Profile.

Country / League Based Rankings

Players will now be able to filter leaderboards based on Country or League.

Friend Management System

In addition to adding a player to your Favorites, you can now add Friends and follow them on CFN. You can now also Blacklist players.

Interactive Timeline

On the CFN home menu, a live feed of your Friends’ activities is presented on an interactive Timeline. Using the Timeline, you can immediately add a recent match to your Replay List, view a Fighter Profile, manage your Friends, and adjust Timeline display settings.

In-Game Announcer Voice

The in-game announcer will give you stats on both you and your opponent using data pulled from the server.

The new CFN server updates mark a new beginning for playing SFV online and we encourage our players to participate in the PC Beta Test to see what improvements we have in store. For the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

The Phantasm of Snow and Ice, Kolin, Joins Street Fighter V!

Greetings Illuminati acolytes!

We are happy to announce the second Season 2 Street Fighter V character, Kolin, is coming February 28th.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGHGrp6KNag&t=15s&spfreload=5

After working in the shadows for Gill and the secret Illuminati organization, Kolin makes her Street Fighter V debut. First appearing in Street Fighter III, Kolin works behind the scenes in order to fulfill the Prophecy of Miraha and stop any who dare stand in Gill’s way. She is typically calm and collected, but can suddenly fly into a rage when anybody threatens Gill and his plans. Spoiler-alert, she resurrects Nash and uses him as a pawn too, showing she will do anything to achieve her goals.

Kolin and Gill in Street Fighter III

Kolin excels in the Russian martial art of Systema, utilizing the opponent’s momentum against them and executing various slash-like attacks and knife hand strikes. Gill has bestowed upon her the power of ice, allowing her to augment her fight style with frigid blasts and deadly icicles. She is often heard speaking condescendingly towards her opponents, knowing they don’t stand a chance before her, let alone Gill.

Where did her hatred of Shadaloo come from and how did she originally become involved with Gill? Be sure to check out her character story to find out!

V-Skill: Inside Slash

Kolin’s unique counter allows her to deflect and automatically punish incoming moves with ease.

V-Trigger: Diamond Dust

With a full V-meter, Kolin can slam the ground twice with her foot, each time shooting out a path of sharp icicles across the floor. In addition to damage and stun, this move freezes the opponent’s stun gauge. While in this special state, the stun gauge will not deplete and if Kolin is successful in stunning the opponent, they will be frozen in place.

Critical Art: Frost Tower

Kolin dashes forward with a slice of her hand. If the attack connects, she’ll continue summoning large icicles from the ground, throwing the opponent into the air and shattering the ice to drop them to the ground.

Also coming alongside Kolin on February 28th are her Story, Premium Battle and Nostalgia costumes.

Don’t forget, the Season 2 Character Pass is now available for $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99 and will grant pass holders with Akuma, Kolin, in addition to 4 brand new fighters to be announced later this year. The pass comes with Premium Battle Costumes with colors 3-10 unlocked and default costume colors 3-10 for each character. Additionally, Season 2 Character Pass holders will receive an exclusive PS4 theme!

We also want to let you know too, expect to hear more from us about each of the remaining four characters every other month beginning in February. That said, in months where we won’t have any new character info, we will have new information and content to talk about. As previously mentioned, we have been analyzing player performance since the Season 2 balance changes. At this time, we can confirm additional changes are in the works to bring characters in-line with how we envision them to perform. We can’t share all of the details quite yet, but we are anticipating an announcement early March.

Kolin will be playable at the Lupe Fiasco DROGAS Light Album Launch Party on 2/15. Please note, the first 150 people in line will get a free event t-shirt. Also, although the event is open to ages 18-20, entry for these people will be very limited. Check out this blogpost for more details. In the coming weeks, you’ll learn even more about Kolin so for the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Welcome to Season 2 of Street Fighter V!

Happy Holidays from the Street Fighter Team!

As previously announced, December 20th marks a huge content update for Street Fighter V. There’s a lot coming out, so hit the jump for a quick recap.

First up is all of our festive Holiday DLC, Ryu’s B-Boy and Chun-Li’s B-Girl costumes. Don’t forget, there is a holiday bundle that will include all of the holiday content for the discounted price of $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99.

Please check out our previous blogpost for full pricing details on the Holiday DLC, including its trailer and screenshots.

As announced at PlayStation Experience 2016, Akuma will be making his debut to Street Fighter V and is coming tomorrow alongside his Story, Premium Battle and Nostalgia costumes. If you want to make sure you’re set for next year, the Season 2 Character Pass is available for purchase here, and will grant you with Akuma, five brand new fighters throughout the year, Premium Battle Costumes for each and an exclusive PS4 theme.

For more details on Akuma’s moveset and costumes, click here.

As Combofiend mentioned in his blogpost, the team has been hard at work ensuring the 2017 season of Street Fighter V is its best yet! We’ve been paying attention all year long and these balance changes are the combined result of Capcom Pro Tour tournaments, online play, player feedback, and internal testing. The goal was to ensure a rich, diverse gameplay experience with each character that both players and spectators can enjoy.

In addition to the balance changes, you’ll find a few other features included in the patch:

Direct Input controller support

We are happy to announce that Street Fighter V on Steam now officially supports Direct Input controllers. You’ll find this in the Other Settings section of Options.

Background Music Select

In Battle Settings, you’ll now be able to select your preferred music in Training and Versus Modes as well as Casual and Ranked matches.

Fighter Profile Radar Charts

Additional updates and fixes have been implemented into Fighter Profiles.

Updated Rage Quit System

The current Rage Quit System has resulted in a significant decrease in rage quitting. That said, we always planned to take this one step further and are ready to further address the issue with this update. In addition to losing League Points and being locked out of online matchmaking for a set time, the following additions have been made to the system:

For character-specific changes, we’ve created a handy pdf for easy access. You can download it here.

Akuma, the Master of the Fist, is coming to Street Fighter V!

Hey Ansatsuken followers!

As announced on-stage during the PlayStation Experience keynote, Akuma, the Master of the Fist, is the first Season 2 DLC character for Street Fighter V!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Y7TRMISkGE

A staple of the Street Fighter series ever since his secret appearance in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Akuma is a savage, but well-honed Ansatsuken master consumed by the Satsui no Hado. Akuma represents the danger Ryu faces if he is unable to control the Satsui no Hado within him, and while Akuma appears to have some set of morals, he believes the highest form of battle is that in which participants put their lives on the line.

Akuma returns to Street Fighter V, displaying his mastery of Ansatsuken and while he has become burlier than previous games, he possesses quick footwork and devastating combos. He has a wide array of destructive tools and is able to completely out-class opponents with his oppressive pressure. His moves and stances often strike poses reminiscent of Buddhist statues and Ukiyo-e paintings.

How does Akuma feel about Ryu’s approach to overcoming the Satsui no Hado and what is his relationship to Necalli? Be sure to check out his character story to find out!

V-Skill: Rakan

Akuma strikes a defensive stance and similar to Ryu’s Mind’s Eye, can parry an incoming attack. He can follow-up the move with an upward kick or a long reaching palm strike.

V-Trigger: Dohatsu Shoten

Akuma powers up and envelops his body with ki to enter Dohatsu Shoten mode. In this mode, his Gohadokens are more powerful, now able to travel full-screen and he can unleash two in the air even while jumping backwards. Additionally, when he lands his Goshoryuken attack, he follows-up and violently drives his opponents into the ground.

Critical Art: Sekia Koretsuha

Akuma channels an incredible amount of ki into his palm and drives it into the ground, striking the opponent with an exploding pillar of fierce energy.

Critical Art: Shun Goku Satsu

Only accessible while in Dohatsu Shoten mode, Akuma’s most powerful attack returns. He glides towards the opponent and grabs them, resulting in a series of devastating strikes in the blink of an eye.

As announced at PlayStation Experience, Akuma is coming to Street Fighter V on December 20th alongside our Holiday Content, B-Boy Ryu and B-Girl Chun-Li. Akuma’s Story, Premium Battle and Nostalgia costumes will also be available when he releases on the 20.

If you want to be in the best shape for 2017, the 2017 Character Pass also releases on December 20th for $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99 and will grant pass holders with Akuma, in addition to 5 brand new fighters as they join the fray throughout 2017. The pass also comes with Premium Battle Costumes with colors 3-10 unlocked and default costume colors 3-10 for each character. Additionally, 2017 Character Pass holders will receive an exclusive PS4 theme!
