Super Army of Tentacles 3: The Search for Army of Tentacles 2: Black GOAT of the Woods Edition
The Real Final Four Projects of 2021!
Yes, this would have worked so much better as a May 4th announcement. Missed that golden opportunity. Hey! Guess what? We're actually gonna stick to schedule this time!
So.
Dunno if this announcement is really warranted. Just want to let people know what is going on.
Super Army of Tentacles: (Not) A Cthulhu Dating Sim has three main mechanics: skills/attributes, Word Battles, and Armies.
Well, it did. See, I started work on the project when things were.... let's say, different in the USA, and that, in turn, fueled the direction of the thing. We had already wanted to do something new with AoT 1's army mechanic, but do it better than the first game. Do it with all the game dev we had learned over the years since we've started. So I felt that my internal anger was a good fuel for said mechanic. Who doesn't love a good 'throw out the bad guys' story?
While the main story of the game is still 'the humans somehow occupied Monster Land', after recent events, I just don't feel good about a mechanic where you pre-meditatively build up militias to take over areas. We talked about this, and the bottom line is that we feel that even though the Army mechanic would have been solid, it would have taken away from the main gameplay loop of the first two games. Even though there was a final Invasion mechanic in the first game, the way you recruited your army was never the focal point. The focals were the Word Battles.
At the end of the day, real people make games, and we don't want to be making a game that we feel isn't up to snuff or is pushed in two different directions. This is the last in the trilogy for us. We know more now and want to do it right, as both a stand alone title and a series cap.
This also allows us to put greater focus on the idea of reactivity to your choices in the world's hubs. Which is cool.
I'm writing this because, even though it wasn't the selling point of the game or even showcased in screenshots or the trailer, it was in the initial store description and there were shots of it in the trailer and on the screenshot gallery. We've already updated the gallery, but will also be updating the trailer shortly.
This really doesn't affect the already delayed release date of 2022. If anything, it clarifies a release date. If anything, at max what it means is this will release post-summer 2022, but I honestly don't think that's a concern.
We hope you enjoy the sequel. We thought it would be the last FASABOH!, but we have something in the back of our heads that itching. As always, depends on how well this one does.
This dev cycle was odd, as this sequel is not under the commission that the original was. It's entirely on our own. It was weird going back to a world that was, at the start, not entirely ours.
It's Gonna Be May Sale!
Meant to post this sooner, but I have been super sleepy thanks to the COVID shot. I am very glad that I got it, though. Furry Shakespeare has a DLC that is 20% off starting tomorrow, not today, and that was an error on our part.
Paper Shakespeare: Very Naked Hamlet Release! Next week, Very Naked Hamlet is releasing. Monday, March 8th, to be exact. A Valentine's Day release would have been swell, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Army of Tentacles 3 stickers! We've submitted a set of four AoT 3 stickers for review, and we'll let you all know when those hit. If they do well, we'll be doing the same for AoT 1. These, sadly, will not be available for the Black GOAT Editions, as those are technically separate products.

2021: schedule changes + 5 YEARS!
Time has flown. It seems like, just yesterday, we were making dating sims based off of the works of William Shakespeare and RPGs out of Lovecraft lore. Old team members left, new team members joined, and we've just generally had a blast making small, weird games for y'all. We're working hard at getting back to more medium-sized RPG/Viz Novel hybrids, and that's sort of what is on the docket to talk about in this news announcement.
Due to reasons that we won't be going into, the main office is going to be moving twice this year. Because of this, as well as other factors revolving around Super Army of Tentacles' assets, we will be moving it to early 2022. We wanted February 15th, as that is the release date of the first AoT, but alas, that also presumably would fall within the range of the 2022 Lunar New Year Sale (maybe not, as LNY 2022 is Feb. 1st).
So, rather than release after Halloween 2021, straight in the middle of the Three Sale Gauntlet (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter), which would be an extremely uncertain launch window, we're going to delay Super Army of Tentacles and push up everything else.
Starting with....
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1312380/Paper_Shakespeare_Very_Naked_Hamlet This game came to us from one of the newer team members, and in the spirit of trying new things, and because we're huge theater geeks if you couldn't tell, we're doing an adults only Shakespeare VN. We write words that are big and adult. But you have to know Hamlet in order to see them.
The direct sequel to Furry Shakespeare: To Date or Not To Date Cat Girls?. Direct in pretty much the same way Paper Shakespeare: To Date Or Not To Date? 2 was. It takes Super Army of Tentacles' spot.
You know, when you're moving cross-country and you have horrible internet that won't be fixed for a few days, and the office is a mess, and you have little contact with the rest of the team, things happen.
Things like not realizing the Steam sale started this morning and you just figured it out via a combination of checking your phone messages and looking on Twitter to see that Steam is trending.
I imagine Ted Lasso giving that speech. Maybe over darts.
Okay, so, brass tacks:
The 2020 Steam Lunar New Year Sale is on now until it's not! Then, when THAT sale is done, boy oh boy oh golly, do we have a surprise for you that's not actually a surprise at all! Our Happy Five Years of Not Going Out Of Business Sale is hitting! Most of our games are on sale this month, including some of our 2019 lot! But not the back half of 2020.
We made.... a lot of stuff in 2020. That was a rush. We have two more Furry Shakespeare games to announce for the back half of 2021, but those announcements will either be around August or September, if those two games don't slip to Early 2022.
We would like to wish everyone a happy Lunar New Year.
