The last week was very exciting. There is new and also a bit of drama. About the changes of the week.

What's new?


Select up to two tags for each of your dungeons so other people can easily find dungeons that they like. You can edit tags for existing dungeons using the superdungeonmaker.mod.io page.

What's changed?


"Top Dungeons" now shows the most played dungeons from the last 6 months - Sorry "A Lot of Fun" but newer dungeons should also get a chance to shine! (Might add a toggle for all-time/last 6 months in the future)

The search function based on the tags comes next. But we wanted to offer it already, so that the first users can try it out. Feedback is welcome.

Drama


Julian had to have knee surgery this week. Julian injured himself during training and now had to have surgery. This does not stop him from working on the game but there are still some delays. Give Julian love and comment with a heart :) Get well soon dear Julian. ❤️

Bugs, bugs, bugs / 200 reviews - Goal

Hey Fink´s friends,

This week I can't tell you so many exciting things, but we have done a lot. The focus this week was on bugs, bugs, bugs :)

Bug-Fixes



  • Fixed multiple bugs that could occur when using the undo and redo buttons - some issues for undo/redo still remain for doors and containers with items inside.
  • Pressing "M" while typing in the bug report window would open the map instead. No _ore nnissing or weird letters in your bug reports needed.
  • Fixed one bug that resulted in a black screen after leaving the Hen & Fam building. However there seem to be different issues at the base of this. Please continue reporting this bug if it happens to you.


We have also used the days and looked at what the current "top feature requests are". Here are the top 10, whereby we have not sorted which of them has received the most requests.


  1. Bow and arrow
  2. Lamp
  3. Coins
  4. Themes changeable per floor
  5. One way doors
  6. Teleporting
  7. Sign should point in one direction
  8. Elevated Floors
  9. In the builder: Select and move areas / enable copy&paste.
  10. Enemies should drop items


Some of them we will implement. Some will probably not come in and others will find their way after the 1.0 release. We will see and inform you how it goes on.

PS: As I have already communicated, we want to have 200 reviews by the end of February. Currently, only 46 reviews are missing. That should certainly not be too difficult. Go, Go , Go... The chicken wants to party. 🥳🎉👯‍♀️🐔

New Enemy - Stingtoise

Hey Fink´s friends,

We had our spring cleaning last week and I want to tell you about it. But also about new content and what has changed. Well then, let's get started.

What's new?


Added a new enemy the Stingtoise - It has a strong spikey shell, but a soft bottom - You need to flip it, by blocking with your shield, before hitting it.

Changes



  • The dungeon entrance door now closes after Fink enters - No more accidentally walking out of the dungeon and losing all your progress.
  • Added Ctrl as alternative Input for shield.

Bug-Fixes



  • The dungeon entrance door was visible even when fink was in another room.
  • Pushable Blocks had the forest visuals in all dungeon themes, making them trivial to identify.
  • Flying Tiles would not work correctly on floors other than F1
  • Objects would not show on the map when playing a Dungeon in play-only mode
  • Stairs would not show on the map at all
  • Fixed a few typos in English texts.

  • Doorways could be randomly stuck into and next to each other creating unwalkable tiles and broken walls - Sorry Xzibit


Known Issues



  • Doorways may still break when using the Undo and Redo function (especially when using it multiple times)
  • Doorways that already exist when loading the dungeon may still break.

What else is happening


We get a lot of feedback from the community and also a lot of bugs reported. Thanks also to all who help us so much. We give ourselves a lot of effort. Of course we would like to implement every idea as far as possible, but we have to prioritize. Here is a small sample from our Tasktracker Asana.

As you can see it looks quite colorful. We give each bug or feedback a value. This value is from the user's point of view - how valuable is this point for the player. After that, we evaluate how much effort is required. A 1 = Yoyo is not that much effort. A 5 = Walkman, costs quite a bit of effort. In addition, how acute is the bug. A - Critical and would have to be fixed promptly. This helps us decide what to do next.

Next week, maybe I'll tell you about the things that are so important to you players right now.

PS: I have decided to announce a new community goal. By the end of February I want to celebrate 200 reviews on steam with you 🎉. That would be so incredible if we could achieve that. I count on every single one. ❤️❤️❤️

Spring cleaning 🧹🌹🐔

Hey Fink´s friends,

The FIRECHICK and rokaplay team is back. We hope you had a good time and the year 2023 will be more enjoyable than the last.

But let's not talk about the past but about the future.

Spring cleaning


During our vacation time, a lot of new users came along and with them a lot of feedback. Thank you all for supporting our project. We decided today that we will do spring cleaning this week. We want to use the week to clean up old tasks and look at all reported bugs and feedback.

Kickstarter survey and Steam keys.


We have already sent all Kickstarter Backers the Steam keys for Super Dungeon Maker before Christmas. Not all of them have taken a look at the survey or answered it yet. Please check your emails and fill out the Backerkit Survey. ❤️

Nintendo Switch Porting


The port of "Super Dungeon Maker" to the Nintendo Switch is currently being implemented by a friendly development team. Unfortunately we had to tweak some things which took more time than expected. In addition, the flu has again cost time. I hope we can tell you more about it soon.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2023 🎉

Hey Fink´s friends,

The time has come and Christmas is just around the corner. We wish you all a relaxing time. The FIRECHICK team is going on vacation and is expected to be back at 09 January 2023. The rokaplay team is complete again from 02 January 2023.

But before we say goodbye there is one more update.

Changes



  • Added Ctrl as alternative Input for shield.

Bug-Fixes



  • Falling doors would close before the player could enter the room.
  • Killing the plant boss in the pre-created dungeons would not open the doors.
  • Heart UI was broken in pre-created dungeons.
  • Flying Tiles would not work correctly on floors other than F1
  • Objects would not show on the map when playing a Dungeon in play-only mode
  • Stairs would not show on the map at all
  • Fixed a few typos in English texts.

PS: We currently have 120 reviews (90% score) on Steam. That motivates us a lot and we are totally hyped. It would be wonderful if we could really manage to reach the 150 reviews by the end of the year. Thank you so much for this great adventure. ❤️❤️❤️

The ice age has arrived in Super Dungeon Maker

Hey Fink´s friends,

Grab your beanies, scarfs and put on your boots, it's getting cold: We added an ice/snow theme for you to create new dungeons. But we have more: Watch out for the frozen floor! Fink has a hard time running on it and will slide around. ⛸️


With this new theme the Christmas season is open.

We really hope you like the new theme and create great new dungeons. Please give us feedback what you like or what you are missing.

Bug-Fixes



  • Scrolling in the builder palette would not work.
  • Sliding Ice Blocks could get stuck in each other.
  • Movable statue had the wrong color in different dungeon themes.

Frozen push block / Review challenge

Hello everyone,

It's getting really cold here. Slowly the snow comes and the lakes freeze. And then we came up with a good idea:

What's new?


Added a frozen push block - If you push it it will slide until it hits a wall.
This is something that a lot of the community has been asking for. We have made an effort to ship it before Christmas. Please make great puzzles with it and contact us if you find bugs.



Of course, we are constantly working to fix bugs. We were able to fix these during the week:

Bug-Fixes



  • Some buildables were not in the correct category in beach and castle settings.
  • The newly added lock-block was only available in the forest theme.
  • The pause menu would not close when pressing the Esc key.
  • You could accidentally build something by clicking on the area between category buttons.
  • Moving the palette selection with the D-Pad was inconsistent for horizontal inputs.


We hear you and read many ideas from you. I am sorry if we do not always respond to them. We have caught the flu and still a few vacations must be celebrated.


Last week I asked you to publish new reviews on Steam. Guys this is super important for us. We give a lot of effort to make the game better. It would be great if you could support us with a review.

My goal is to have 150 reviews by the end of the year. Let's do it together.

This is what has happened in the last 3 months.

Hey Fink´s friends,

We haven't posted any progress updates for a while, although we continued to update the game. The focus in development hasn't changed, but the marketing team has been busy with the Kickstarter. Therefore, a summary from September 14, 2022. A lot of it you've probably already found on your own, but I just didn't want to forget anything. (And yet it will happen).

There is a small spoiler section at the end of the news. You have been warned with it.

What's new?



  • Added a map icon to the UI to show if the map was selected and which key/button to press to open it
  • The compass will now play a sound cue when entering a room that contains a key.
  • Added a small pop up effect when collecting an item that shows you what you collected. You can finally see which item you got from a treasure chest.
  • We added tooltips for most objects that you can build into your dungeon.
  • Some objects offer more detailed explanations with the press of a button.
  • We added a lock block - Use a key to open the lock and destroy the block.
  • Save game notification. After 5 minutes without saving you will get a discreet info. Do you like the solution?

What's changed?



  • The compass will now play a sound cue when entering a room that contains a key.
  • We improved the menu controls for gamepad users - consistent navigation and better audio feedback for your actions.
  • Various minor updates to the User Interface.

Bug-Fixes



  • Map Texture was too small.
  • The compass did not correctly show icons on different floors.
  • Keys and Map Display would overlap.
  • Enemies would incorrectly affect events (doors/spawners) in other rooms.
  • Seasonal themes did not work correctly for dungeons uploaded during the event.
  • Spawners on the enemy channel would not work correctly.
  • The game may sometimes crash while closing the application - "YOU CAN'T FIRE ME! I QUIT!!!"

Known Issues



  • Downloading dungeons takes a long time - Currently looking into this
  • Some objects are still lacking their tooltips.


What's on our minds and what we're sitting on right now.


Of course we have been busy with Kickstarter lately, but Flonja and Adrian have been the main ones. Unfortunately, no "Updates News" came and we also heard you loudly that it is important to you. We will stay tuned, but we ask for your patience and understanding. We don't want to upset anyone with this, we ultimately want it to be a fantastic project. But we also need a lot of people to know that the game exists. And here the marketing team has to do a lot.

We are currently still sitting on a new theme. For this, Linda created beautiful pixelart graphics and Julian is hacking in Unity3D. At the same time we get a lot of feedback and change requests. We still have to sort it all out, but we appreciate your feedback.

I hope I could give you a good insight. We are looking forward to your feedback.

Thanky you - read carefully - Next steps

Thank you for making our project a reality! A few things need to happen before we can kick off production and fulfillment.

The first stage of an incredible Kickstarter journey is now coming to an end. For you, the wait begins and we still have a lot of work to do. Of course, we have already worked during the campaign on the rewards but some things are still pending.



What's next?


For us, it is time to make the backerkit store ready. First, we have to wait for Kickstarter to collect the money - this takes on average 2 to 3 weeks. Please make sure that your cards are covered so that your pledges go through and don't get canceled.

Please join our Discord and choose the Super Dungeon Maker role to not miss any new information!

Here's a quick rundown:


First, Kickstarter needs to collect and transfer the funds so we have the money to make the rewards (this can take up to two weeks).

Second, we have to find out how many of the different rewards we need before we can ship them. We’ll send out a BackerKit survey to collect this information. That means we are planning the backerkit store for January, you are welcome to check it out and share the link with your friends in case someone wants to become a supporter. Everyone is welcome!❤️

We’ll give you a heads-up before we send the survey so that you can watch for it. You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to answer your survey. The invitation email contains a link to your personal survey. It is important to submit your responses as quickly as you can since we need this information to process your rewards.

If you need to change your survey responses, purchase add-on items, or update your shipping information, you can click the link in your survey email again or request your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page. (This page will only start working after we send the surveys out.)

BackerKit helps us save lots of time by streamlining the survey process, automating data organization, and providing us with pledge management software to make it easy to process your pledge reward shipments.

Hey my friends,
Unbelievable but true, we have only 48 hours left on the Kickstarter clock and are on the last meters of our campaign! We are overwhelmed by your support and speechless in the positive sense.



Character skin


Today I would like to take the chance and give you a little insight into what the next Stretch goal (new character skin) can mean. We've done some preliminary work to show you what you can expect when we crack this goal.
Here you can find a selection from which our community can choose which character skin it could be. So even those who don't like to play as a chicken would have the opportunity to enjoy Super Dungeon Maker with a different look.



Why is a new character skin a stretch goal and not already in the game?


As you know, Super Dungeon Maker is hand-drawn frame by frame for all animations, so everything has to be adjusted manually for a new character or character skin. That means not only simple walking but every interaction with items etc.

When a new character skin is implemented, we have to calculate about 4 weeks in which no other features can be developed in parallel. In addition, we need to fix bugs and everything that is newly implemented and has to be tested. We all want new things not to be just thrown into the game but also to play nicely ;)
