Superfly v1.3.1 Update

Hi everyone, it’s the day you never thought would come again… We’re releasing another update! This update includes building destruction, and… our very first cosmetics! Two features we know you guys have been asking about for years.

Now for a little bit more about this surprise holiday update. Starting with building destruction! As it so happens, Dr. Suffers years of mindless chaos has caused just a little bit of issues with upkeeping the city. So, you’ll notice as you fly that there are now some new construction zones to interact with. These will look like plain concrete buildings with construction gear around the outside. At these zones, not only can you destroy the buildings to your hearts content, you can also go inside them! Granted, they’re under construction, so there’s not much inside. But, we can’t wait to see you fulfill your superhero dreams by finally slamming the robots through the buildings! One last note on building destruction, not all buildings are destructible, only the ones in construction zones. Sorry to disappoint guys, full city destruction would’ve exploded your headsets.

On to our next exciting new feature – cosmetics! Each power has 2 different new color sets you can choose from. This gives you a total of 24 new glove color combinations inspired by 24 different superheroes and supervillains! Not only that, but you can change the colors of your powers to match your new gloves. Or mix and match colors to make your own unique superhero (or villain).

And finally, we’ve also re-enabled snow by default for the entire city. Explore all the new features in a lovely winter wonderland all through the festive season! We hope you have a great time with this special new holiday update.

As always, don’t forget to check out our Discord if you find any bugs, or have other questions, comments, or suggestions about Superfly! And a big thanks to the players on Discord who helped us test out this update.

Happy Holidays!

Changelog:

  • Added destructible buildings in construction zones around the city
  • Added cosmetics for power colors and glove colors
  • Added a setting to control the number of fragments
  • Added a setting to swap the grip and touchpad buttons
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the player to slide rapidly forwards, ignoring friction
  • Fixed a bug that caused a stutter when playing audio clips

Superfly v1.2.3 Update

Hi everyone! We’re back with another update for y’all. This minor update adds clearer story mode progression, more sounds for some of our newer enemies, updates the tutorial voice lines, and fixes several bugs.

Now, when you start up the game for the first time, you will be presented with a difficulty selection screen. As always, you can change your difficulty any time from Settings > Gameplay as well, but we wanted to make it more user friendly for first time players. Along that same line, we added a gear collection progress bar for story mode so you can see your progress in real time. You’ll also be able to hear your progress in real time, as new voice lines from Dr. Suffer play every time you unlock a new power. And keep your ears open, some of Dr. Suffers lines have been updated to include real meows from our team’s actual IRL cats!

Besides adding more Dr. Suffer, we also took some time to make his creations sound a little more fearsome. Look out for new sounds and voice lines for the Juggerbot and Steelbreath The Annihilator! Don’t know who Juggerbot and Steelbreath The Annihilator are? Those are the new community selected names that came from our Enemy Naming Competition! We want to give a big thank you again to the users in our discord who participated in the competition. We love the new names you guys have picked, and hope you’re all excited to see them reflected in the achievements this update!

Now on to a slightly less fun part of the update: bug fixes! We fixed several bugs in this update to make your Superfly experience better. No longer shall you get the all red world of doom upon loading in, or destroy a thousand boats wondering why you can’t get the achievement, as well as many more fixes you can see in the changelog.

We also wanted to let you know we have noticed many users reporting a very specific bug: Being able to move your hands, but not being able to click anything. Thanks to our community members helping us out debugging, this should now be fixed. If you still experience this bug after updating to 1.2.3, please email us at contact@locomotiondevs.com or join our Discord so we can get debugging files from you. If you’re not able to assist us debugging, no worries! We’ve also added a temporary solution to this bug to our FAQ just in case you still experience issues after updating to 1.2.3.

And that’s Minor Update 1.2.3! We hope you enjoy playing Superfly, and as always, join our Discord for the most up to date game news, give suggestions, or get tech support if something isn’t working right!

Superfly v1.2.2 Update

Hi everyone! It’s the moment you’ve all been secretly waiting for… the new Wanted System update is live now! Prepare to have a new life breathed into the city of Superfly. With more difficulty progression than ever before, a brand-new health system, 11 (yes, ELEVEN!) new and unique enemies, and updated building graphics, there’s something for all of you! Don’t worry, some of your familiar favorite enemies are still there too… but a couple of them might look a little different. (don’t tell them that, they get a little self-conscious.)

Now on to the fun stuff! The major change in this update is the brand new Wanted System, which also allowed us to introduce 11 new enemies to our roster, each with unique different abilities. You might remember Dr. Suffer is looking to find you after you escaped from his lab. Well, now your destruction comes with consequences! As you fly around the city “saving” those police cars by yeeting them off into the ocean, Dr. Suffer will notice you’re causing mayhem and send his goons after you!

Similar to GTAV, you will now gain a Wanted Level the more you destroy property and robots. You can see this with our handy (ha) new Robot Head indicator located just under your left hand. Each Robot Head represents a further increase in difficulty, with the most difficult being 5 Robot Heads. Trust me, it’s a doozy to survive! You might even notice some interesting new effects if you make it to Wanted Level 5… (but you didn’t hear that from me)

Since this update majorly increases the difficulty of Superfly, we also want to take a brief moment to remind you of some existing difficulty settings located in Settings > Gameplay. You can lower your difficulty at any time (even make yourself invincible!), as well as lower the spawn rate of enemies, all without respawning. Or raise it! We encourage you to use these settings to tailor Superfly to your personal level of difficulty, as we know all players have a different idea of what is easy or hard to them.

Next, we added a completely new health system. We’ve tried a few different versions of this in the past, from a red encroaching circle that made players nauseous, to our most recent system where you just sort of.. die, without warning. Unfortunately, the feedback we’ve gotten has been that those iterations haven’t quite hit the mark yet.

For our new updated health system, we’ve finally added a health bar. It’ll appear on the back of your left wrist in game. As you take damage and lose health, it’ll go from green, to yellow, and eventually red before you die. You’ll also see some flashing red around your screen indicate that you’re taking damage, as well as a warning sound when you’re low on health, in case you don’t have a chance to look down. And don’t worry, if you die, you’ll just respawn back in the city center.

As part of this health system update, we’ve also adjusted how you take damage. Not only do enemy attacks hurt you, but you can also enable the ability take fall damage now! You can find this setting under Settings > Gameplay, turn it on if you want even more of a challenge! We also adjusted how EMPs affect you, now each EMP will only disable one of your hands instead of both.

Now, on to the enemies. We added 11 new enemies to this update, to make for a total of 13 in our roster! I wanted to take a second to mention that our old Spider Bots and the Red Mech are gone…(RIP) While Dr. Suffer felt they performed valiantly, they both need some massive upgrades to be on par with all our new enemies. If you’ve seen our Enemy Naming Competition on Discord, you’ve already seen their 2.0 replacements! Please give a big warm welcome to the crawler 2.0* (not official name) and one-eyed mech 2.0* (not official name)! I know they just can’t wait to beat you! Er. I mean, meet you. Yeah, that’s what I meant.

There are also 9 other new enemies that you’ve never seen before, completely new to this update! Everything from a slimy tentacle bot all the way to a giant mechanical dragon, we have it all! While I’m tempted to tell you everything about all 9 new enemies, this announcement would be far too long if I did. You’ll just have to play the new update to find out, or head over to our Enemy Naming Competition on Discord if you want to learn more about them before they obliterate you into pieces.

And lastly, we added new rainbow building colors to the entire city! We also updated the textures for the bottom section of all the buildings in the city to add brand new storefronts. Along with that, we adjusted the interior textures too. We hope you enjoy this added variety in your high rise fly by!

With all of that, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention our future plans… Unfortunately, this is likely to be our last major content release. I know, I know, we’ve said that a dozen times before. But.. I think it’s for real this time. Our next goal is to get out of App Lab and onto the full Quest Store. This means we have to work on making sure Superfly meets the performance requirements necessary to do so, which is a lot of bug fixing and performance optimization we’ll be continuing to work on. This doesn't mean we're leaving the PC version of Superfly behind - all these bugfixes performance improvements will come to both the Quest and Steam versions of Superfly. We appreciate your support over these last few years, and we hope that you’ll continue to enjoy Superfly!

As always, don’t forget to check out our Discord if you find any bugs, or have other questions, comments, or suggestions about Superfly!

Superfly in Humble Bundle (+ Our plans for the next update)

Hello everyone! This is a very special announcement. We are so excited to announce that Superfly is part of Humble Bundle's In Your Face VR bundle!

We are working with Humble Bundle to support SpecialEffect and AbleGamers! Both of these charities work to support people with disabilities in playing games. They also work with developers to help them develop more accessible games or help guide them to make their games compatible with specialized equipment. We are so very happy to be helping the cause, and we hope you’ll choose to help support these amazing charities!

The bundle includes many great games, (such as Superfly) as well as popular games like Zenith: The Last City, Wanderer, Rumble VR, and more! We highly recommend you check it out and help us support some awesome charities.

bundle runs from April 19th to May 8th

On another note, we're currently working on another major update to Superfly! We've heard your feedback and suggestions on Discord, and we're adding more content to help fulfill your superhero fantasy. Soon the city will have a new life brought to it - literally! We're adding several new enemies, (and updating some old ones) alongside our brand new Wanted Level system. Superfly will be more difficult than it's ever been before - and we can't wait for you to see the difference! We hope to release this new update in a few weeks.

Superfly v1.1.4 Update

We're back with another update for Superfly! This update is all about sounds. The audio of Superfly admittedly hasn't been our focus for a while now, but this update should help significantly with that. First of all, we've added or updated sounds for all the powers in the game. Lots of abilities that were previously silent or that had placeholder sounds now have full sound effects, which gives a great extra level of feedback as you're playing the game. We also improved on the ambient sounds in the game, with varying ambiences for different regions of the city, as well as better ambient sounds for all the cars and blimps.

We also have a few improvements to the game that aren't related to sounds. First, we reworked the grapple hook sidegrade for the web power to have much better physics - this updated mode is my new favorite movement mode in the entire game. Try it out, and keep moving forward. We also added proper impact VFX for the kunai in the blink power, fixed some physics/jittering issues with the claw mode, and fixed a number of bugs with the giant power.

We've got a much bigger update in the works. We're planning to add a wanted system, inspired by the GTA franchise. Destroying robots will increase your wanted level, and at higher wanted levels, more dangerous enemies will appear and try to hunt you down. As part of this, we're planning to add a ton of new enemy types, many of which will have unique attacks or abilities to ramp up the challenge at high wanted levels. We're also trying a rework of the game's damage system, moving from our current hacking-effects system to a more traditional health bar. This health rework is a huge change, so we want your feedback on it before we fully add it to the game. We're planning to run an open beta test on our Discord, starting something this month. Please join, try out the rework, and let us know what you think!

Changelog:

  • Added or updated sounds for every power in the game
  • Added ambient sounds for different regions of the city
  • Added ambient sounds for the cars and blimps
  • Added impact VFX for the blink kunai
  • Updated the claw mode to be stronger
  • Updated the grappling hook sidegrade to have much better physics
  • Updated the powers menu text to be clearer
  • Fixed a bug where the claw mode would jitter while giant
  • Fixed a bug where the giant mode used the wrong icon in the help menu
  • Fixed a bug where the UI pointer would be the wrong size while giant
  • Fixed a bug where the menu sounds wouldn't play while giant

Superfly v1.1.3 Update

Hi everyone! We've got another Superfly update for you. This minor update focuses on quality of life features and performance improvements. The biggest new feature is a help section of the pause menu that explains the controls for each power. This might not be a big deal for expert players, but we hope it'll make it easier for new players to jump into the game and have fun. We've also got several quality of life improvements: new visuals for the giant and black hole modes, and new sounds for the UI and tutorial room. This update should also greatly improve performance on low-end devices, especially the Quest 1. If you're having any performance issues at all after this update, please let us know in our Discord what was going on in the game when it happened. Thanks!

We're working on bigger future updates for Superfly. One major feature we're planning to add is a wanted system, inspired by the GTA franchise. Destroying robots will increase your wanted level, and at higher wanted levels, more dangerous enemies will appear and try to hunt you down. These enemies will drop additional gears, rewarding you for pushing your luck against harder challenges. On the flip side of this, if you ignore all the enemies, you'll stay at a low wanted level - perfect for peacefully flying around the city without getting harassed by robots. This wanted update will also add several new enemy types. It will likely release in a couple months.

To stay up to date with all the latest Superfly news, please join our Discord. It's also the best place to report bugs, to chat with other players, or to give any suggestions or feedback to us devs. Have fun playing!

Changelog:

  • Added a help section to the pause menu to explain power controls

  • Added sound effects to the UI
  • Added additional sound effects to the tutorial room
  • Updated the Black Hole to spawn from the player's palms
  • Updated the graphics to greatly improve performance, especially on Quest 1
  • Fixed a bug where the screen color didn't change when starting the tutorial on Quest

Superfly v1.1.1 Update

Hi, we've got some exciting news: a new giant update for Superfly is out now! This update is giant in two ways: not only does it add the most new content of any update yet, but it adds four new powers, including a Giant mode where you can grow to be as tall as a skyscraper! The other new powers include a Blink mode where you can quickly teleport and dash around the city, a Telekinesis mode that lets you freely fly and pick up cars and enemies, and a Portals mode that lets you place any number of pairs of portals that connect spots around the city. Each new power has the usual set of customizations and sidegrades - maybe you want to shrink down instead of grow giant, or you want to fire powerful energy blasts instead of telekinetically grabbing cars - the choice is yours!

The update doesn't end there. We totally redesigned the game's UI to be prettier and more intuitive. We added 5 new race missions focused on moving along the ground instead of in midair. We added a ton of variety to the enemies' audio lines, and added optional subtitles for all of them. We made billboards and boats fully destructible. We added real physics to blimps, so you can now actually yank blimps out of the sky and smash them into the ground! The list goes on (and on, and on), see the changelog below for full details.

We have some additional changes planned for the next couple weeks. We're still working on tweaking and improving the new modes: fixing bugs, adding sound effects, and so on. We're also taking a close look at performance, the new features can cause some issues, especially on Quest. We could really use all of your help in fixing performance: if you run into any lag while playing, please let us know in our Discord what was going on in the game when it happened. Thanks!

In the longer term, we're looking into ways to add more meaningful story content and progression to Superfly. I can't share many details yet because I don't know for sure what that content will look like, we're still prototyping ideas. We're also working on translating Superfly to non-English languages. If you have requests for specific languages, please let us know!

To stay up to date with all the latest Superfly news, please join our Discord. It's also the best place to report bugs, to chat with other players, or to give any suggestions or feedback to us devs. Have fun playing the update, and happy holidays!

Superfly v1.0.6 Update

Hi! We're back with another update for Superfly. This update was focused on closing the final gap between the PC version of Superfly and the Quest version: social features. The Steam version of Superfly has had achievements and leaderboard integration for a while now, and as of this update, the Quest version finally has them too. If you just play on the PC, this update has stuff for you too! We fixed a longstanding bug with the Lightning Super sidegrade - it should now be much easier to use now, especially while sitting down.

I'd also like to share our updated plans for the future of Superfly. The past couple months have been huge for us, we've seen an amazing surge of support for the game. As a result, we're actively working on adding major new content to the game. We're currently prototyping several new powers, as well as an expanded story mode with more meaningful progression. These are too early in development for us to know for sure what they'll look like, so I can't share the exact details right now, but we're hoping to start public beta tests for these features sometime in September. As always, join our Discord for the latest news and announcements, and to talk with the devs and other players!

Changelog:

  • Added achievements to the Quest port
  • Added race and gear leaderboards to the Quest port
  • Updated the game to have better FPS on the Quest 1
  • Fixed a bug that broke the Lightning Super sidegrade for some users
  • Removed the legacy username selector UI

Superfly v1.0.5 Update

Hey! We're back with another update for Superfly. This minor update adds a couple quality of life changes and several bug fixes that should make the game feel and work a lot better for players. This includes adding a setting to swap the Grip and Trigger buttons just for the lightning mode, as well as adding better performance and graphics on our Quest port. We were also able to resolve the smooth turning issue that several of you have been reporting – please let us know if you’re still experiencing this bug after the update.

While we’re still working on some of the things we mentioned in our last announcement – like porting to mobile VR headsets and globalization – we’ve also been brainstorming behind the scenes. With the recent success of the Quest release, our team has been considering giving Superfly just a little more content to help flesh it out more thoroughly. This may come in the form of more content for story mode, perhaps more powers, or something else entirely.

As usual, come check out our Discord to keep up to date with announcements, or drop us a comment in our feedback channel with what you would like to see next in Superfly.

Changelog:

  • Added a setting to swap the Grip and Trigger buttons for the lightning mode
  • Updated the game to have higher quality and better performance on Quest
  • Updated an in-game message to better explain the story mode progression
  • Fixed a bug that caused the controls for turning and jumping to sometimes not work
  • Fixed a bug that caused the hand to animate incorrectly when you swapped the controls
  • Fixed a bug that caused a an error message for PC builds

Superfly v1.0.4 Update

Hi there! We're back with another update for Superfly. This minor update adds a few quality of life features that should make the game more enjoyable for new players and expert players alike. New players will appreciate the objective notifications we've added to Story Mode that guide you through all the objectives and boss fights - this doesn't add any new content, but the extra structure should make the mode feel like a much more natural progression. For expert players, we've added two secret Steam achievements. (And no, I'm not going to just say what they are - they wouldn't be much of a secret then, would they?) On top of that, we have the usual assortment of minor improvements: new graphics for rooftop objects, some bug fixes for physics and leaderboards, and so on.

Now that Superfly's in full release, we aren't planning to add any major new content to the game. We're currently working on bringing Superfly to users worldwide, adding translations into other languages. We're also continuing to work on Superfly for mobile VR, with quality of life improvements to the Quest port, as well as possibly porting to other mobile VR headsets.

After this, we aren't done making games. It's too early to share any details for sure, but our team is looking into making another VR game over the next couple years. As usual, join our Discord to hear all the latest announcements!

Changelog:

  • Added messages to Story Mode that lead you to the next unlock or boss fight
  • Added race missions to the Quest port
  • Added some secret Steam achievements...
  • Added a setting to swap the Grip and Trigger buttons
  • Updated the rooftop objects to spawn in more sensible groups
  • Updated the rooftop graphics to fix some level of detail issues
  • Updated the worm and spider bosses to spawn away from the city center
  • Fixed a bug that caused some projectiles to shake in the player's hand
  • Fixed a bug that caused the leaderboard to miss some peoples' information
  • Fixed a bug that caused enemies and blimps to sometimes phase through objects
