Cataclysm Patch 22/11/18

Hey all,

The new version that has gone live is v. 65330.

With this build we were hoping to fixing online lag. Our investigations have led us to reveal that the online lag is a series of multiple issue all piled up. We've made a few addresses to how we send and receive network information between players but the process is going to be an incremental one where every patch should make online play a bit smoother.

Cataclysm Patch - 15/11/18

Hey all,

The new version that has gone live is v. 65163.

The core of this patch is AI updates that make it play the end game far more intelligently.

Apologies to those with trackpad issues and those with online lag issues, they won't be addressed in this update. We have fixed the online lag but that was done too late to test and involve so that will form the base of an update next week. We're yet to find a solution for the trackpad issue but we are working on it.

Cataclysm - OUT NOW!

Hello all,

Happy end of the world!

The four horseman rose with the Harbinger to rain chaos and destruction and they have turned the land to ash and cinder - now, nobody knows who resides in Talisman's iconic locations.

It has been a generation since the earth cracked open and the sky fell. The seas rose up to swallow the land, and the land crumbled down to cover the seas. It was the end of the world, yet the world did not end.

The rulebook can be found here.

35 years of Talisman

Today also commemorates 35 years of Talisman. On this day in 1983 the UK's answer to DnD was released to the world. In those years since we've seen many evolutions of Talisman and to celebrate this we'll be discussing what it's like to work on Talisman physically and digitally with guest speaker, John Goodenough. You'll be able to find that here at 4pm GMT.

Fixes

As is standard, tracking specific bugs between the live build and different builds that we've been working on is normally tough so we are unable to produce a list of bug fixes. This is especially so as we have maintained different builds for the Woodland public build, the Catacylsm, our engine build and the build that we're using to work on what comes next. If you want to know if anything specific has been fixed then please ask.

Dev Note

Some users may see a continuation of issues that presented themselves when we released the new engine. These problems have been difficult to squash as they are proving to be very specific. Unfortunately, it's not a case of us having just broke Macs - for all the users that report failures to launch, struggles to run the game and various other issues, we have updated and fixed some of these problems for some of these users. In development, it's a far easier problem to fix nothing or fix everything with updates as that provides a clear next step. Fixing the same problem for some users, however, is far more of a headache as it seemingly makes no sense for some users to have the problem fixed and some users not to. Rest assured, we plan to continue to dedicate ourselves to ensuring that all users possible can make the leap to our own engine and we will continue to keep contact with those users having problems.

Another standard for a new update, please complete any games that you want to complete on the old build before updating as old saves on the new build may be rendered unplayable.

Along with this, if you lose your Runestones and XP, please go to the leaderboard and hit refresh.

Special thanks…

As always, we are grateful for all the hours that people choose to give to helping us improve the quality of Talisman: Digital Edition. For this expansion we gave more people access at an earlier stage and some folk really went above and beyond in helping us ensure the highest standards possible.

Thanks especially to sjgf, Neil, Nemomon, Neogambit and talismanisland for your continued hard work and support.

New Engine Patch - 11/10/18

Hey all,

We've had a reasonably quick turnaround for this patch so it doesn't contain a ton of logic fixes, this is primarily to ensure the stability and functionality of the game for those who have struggled to run Talisman on the new engine.

The core chunk of the fixes are the following;

  • Fix for crash on launch for PC
  • Fix for crash on launch for Mac
  • Partial fix for Mac tracking pad - some users found the fix to be successful, some haven't
  • Minor improvements to online multiplayer lag - this probably doesn't bring online multiplayer to a playable standard for those that were experiencing the issue but it's a movement in the right direction. This is a big focus for us and we're hoping to keep tweaking and make small patches to get online multiplayer back to being strong and stable.
  • Fix for full screen toggling focus loss (i.e. you can mess about with other monitors without Talisman being put into the background)

These patch notes are only brief so if anyone would like further details on the who, what, when, where and why of the points below then just gimme a shout.

Legacy Build

For those who Talisman is currently completely goosed on the new engine we have made a build from the previous engine available so you can continue to play.

Because of technical limitations we can't update the old engine with any new updates including content. Regardless, we intend to ensure that all users can make the journey across to the new build with us.

To access different builds go to your library, right click on Talisman, go to Properties, go to Betas and select public-beta from the drop down box.

Pathfinder - OUT NOW!

Hey all,

We have a new character for you to get your hands on!

The Pathfinder is one of the most knowledgeable heroes when it comes to the geography of Talisman. Whether it's traversing the Crags, Forest or Chasm, whether it's moving through the Crypt or the Mines, the Pathfinder can always be relied upon to find more in the land than most can.

The Pathfinder is available for general purchase and will also be included in the Talisman Season Pass.

Patch Notes - 02/07/18

Hey all,

I forgot to translate programmer patch notes into normal people patch notes. So, you'll have to make do with Tyr's version of patch notes. If we all agree that his make no sense then I will Fomalhaut-ify them.

The new build is v. 63021.

The Woodland - OUT NOW!

Hello all,

Happy Woodland day!

It’s the one that you have all been waiting for - the fourth corner board is here!

For the first time in countless ages, the mystic Woodland has returned to the mortal realm. Among the towering trees and along the twisting trails, wealth and power beyond comprehension can be found. But there are dangers as well. King Oberon and Queen Titania, ageless beings of fate and magic, will not brook invasion of their realm so lightly. Players will pick sides in the struggle between the monarchs of the fae, or choose their own path of destiny.

The rulebook can be found here.

Fixes

Between Harbinger patches, a free new app on iOS, Asmodee accounts, Deep Realms beta and release and now the Woodland there have been a host of bugs and fixes that have come up and disappeared from the various places that Talisman is in production. As a result, it’s been difficult to separate any list of fixes into live, beta and QA bugs. During the beta we kept a comprehensive list of all changes which were generally split into the above categories and that can be found here.

To highlight a few specific fixes - we have recently found some bugs with our networking code that have the potentially to be critical in improving our online stability. We hope that the community will feel the benefit from these fixes. If you are continuing to have any stability issues then please let us know.

Dev Note

The Woodland was originally intended for July but due to behind the scenes engine/platform things that have gone on we have brought the release forward. We believe that the Woodland is in a very healthy state at the moment and is in good condition to be released but due to the earlier than intended release we are prepping a post-release patch already. We hope that this will be for all of the minor bugs that are found from the weirdest of weird item/character/spell/spaces combos that are possible but if any more serious issues do occur then please report them as we are following the feedback closely and are ready to react.

Special thanks…
